"American Idol: The Fourth Eight" |
Not a really good week...definately the worst of the four weeks...some of the performers had terrible personalities, and most couldn't carry a tune....can't wait for the wild-card, though, I agree with Simon, it'll definately be the best round.1. Joshua - Awesome....really enjoyed him a lot, he picked a good song, not the one I was expecting, but he did great with it. He is definately in the top ten, no doubt about it, my second favorite singer in the contest (only second to to Ruben), and he is still my pick to win the whole shebang. 2. Corey - I was expecting him to do well because he can sing, he does belong in the top ten, and should be there. Can't wait to hear him sing some Michael Jackson songs. 3. Chip - I really liked him....I wasn't a huge fan of the song, but I thought he did a very good job and would like to see him go on, but I don't think America will agree....he'll probably be a part of the wild card show, though. 4. Ashley - Her voice was a note too high....she sang beautifully, but was just a little too high. She probably has a better chance to make the top ten than Chip, but I think he sounded better. 5. Patrick - Didn't get what I was expecting from him....song choice wasn't great, he was a little scratchy tonight. He has an outside chance of getting into the finals if there are enough rock fans out there watching....but he still isn't quite there with me.....and his sister certainly didn't help his cause. 6. Nasheka - I just didn't enjoy it....not much emotion, she had a few squeaky moments in the song, not a great song to sing either. 7. Sylvia - She was ok...her voice was a little too scratchy for me, just not quite there....she's not in the final 10. 8. Juanita - I knew this would be a "So What?" performance....she never earned her way into the final 32, and although I liked George last week, I didn't expectt a lot from her...but I didn't expect it to be that bad....I think the song choice was horrible, and the singing was bad as well...she was very bitter, with a little bit too much personality....I am a big fan of the judges, so I took their side instead of hers...man, I sure wish Frenchie would have been in the lineup tonight. My Top Three: Joshua, Chip, Corey My Top Two: Joshua, Corey America's Top Three: Josuhua, Chip, Corey America's Top Two: Joshua, Corey Survior 5 Anti-Bootee Champion

I actually thought this week was better than some prior weeks. However, I totally agree with your top three.Joshua --- wonderfully strong powerful voice...He picked a good song and sang it with passion. Corey --- he CAN do better but he did a lot better than I expected him to do. Chip --- he was good and I definitely thought he was the best until Josh took the stage.

JOSHUA, JOSHUA, JOSHUA !!!!!He, Clay and Kimberley Clark are my favorites. 1. Joshua. Loved him. He's nice, great voice, and has personality. What more can you ask? He's the one. 2. Corey. I hate him, I think he's an ass, the preliminaries proved that, but this was far his best auditiion yet. I agree with the judges, based on tonight's show, he deserves to be in the top ten. 3. Patrick. I like him. He has been better before, but he was not that bad tonight. I agree with him this round is not good for somone like him. But I like him. 4.Chip. Great voice, really boring singer, just like Ruben. 5. All the rest. They all sucked big time. My picks: Joshua, Corey and Patrick. MY predictions: Joshua and Corey, with Chip third place. Did I mention Joshua rocks

7. "RE: Wildcard spoiler?" |
LAST EDITED ON 02-26-03 AT 09:24 AM (EST)Well, what I actually heard was (paraphrasing) 'the Ruebens and the Kimberlys' and I took that to mean people who sing at their calibur, and not necessarily that Kimberly Caldwell was a lock for their pick. That's just how I took it. Also, to be honest, while I think the judges have their ideas of who they would pick, I don't think they've already predetermined who that person is. They put a lot of emphasis on each performance, and I would be very suprised if they had their mind all made up before next week. I think they know who they'll be watching, but I don't think anyone is a given. Just my thoughts... And just to stay on topic.... this group was overall pretty bad. I have to agree with the majority, though... Joshua and Corey were my two favorites. I did not like Corey throughout the audition process, but he sang very well, and he deserves to be in the top ten. Edited to add my comments on last night...

Ugggghhh...this group was AWFUL. I can only rank the top two and the last person.1. JOSHUA - easy choice, great voice, don't think he's really attractive enough to be the American Idol, but it certainly would be "patriotic" 2. COREY - I don't like him, but I have to admit he was better than most of this group. Didn't deserve the ovation, but yeah, he'll be in the top ten. 3. ASHLEY - hell, I'll go ahead and rank them. She ONLY gets this spot based on looks and personality. 4. CHIP - I guess he was alright, at least he didn't talk back to the judges. 5. NASHEKA - why would you talk back to Simon after he complimented you? I liked her, and thought she had a decent chance in this group, but then she shot herself in the foot by being ungrateful and nasty. 6. SYLVIA - just not very impressive, oversang it and didn't do that very well 7. PATRICK - yuck, I was really hoping he'd do well. He had no spark, no energy, looked like a scared rabbit, and sang horribly. Simon's sheep-in-wolf's-clothing comment was DEAD ON. 8. juanita - she doesn't deserve to have her name capitalized. She stole Frenchie's spot, then she sang HORRIBLY, then she popped an attitude as though she were even chosen to be there in the first place. My least favorite contestant of the final 32. Why Frenchie why??? She would have been a shoo-in. So, who to hope for in the wildcard? Well, OBVIOUSLY Clay, my favorite of the whole competition and my pick to win. CLAY, who would've killed in ANY OTHER WEEK (and should've still made it over Kim that week) For the other spot....let's see....Hadas, Kimberly K.(i think), Equoia.....oh hell, just give it to Kimberly C., you know it's gonna happen, and I can't say I'll be that upset. (And she'll probably end up doing pretty well.)

1. Joshua - Yes, yes, yes.2. Corey - Didn't want to like him, couldn't help liking him. His swaying during his entire song was distracting, though. 3. Chip - Lovely voice, but didn't really bring anything special to the performance to make it stand out. 4. Nasheka - Horrible song choice, but a decent voice. 5. Patrick - I wish he would have picked something by Meatloaf, because he writes stuff that works well on piano for rockers. But the judges were right, he shouted that song. 6. Ashley - Wish she would have picked a different song. 7. Sylvia - Got marked down this far mostly on attitude. Her voice is all right, but her enunciation was horrible and ruined it for me. And no, she's not representative of black church singing - a lot of singers I've heard, I've been able to understand what they're trying to say. 8. Juanita - Someone who got in when another contestant got disqualified is not allowed to cop an attitude, especially when the judges were right and she sang poorly. Hands down, Joshua and Corey. Biggest no-brainer so far. And I was struck by Simon's comment about "the Kimberleys" too. I think that two Kims are going to get invited to the wildcard, and that Simon is expecting at least one of them to get a spot. Who voted for me at the Survivor Ep 2 TC???

8. "RE: American Idol: The Fourth Eight" |
Hmmm, let me consult my notes.Sylvia started out promising for me in the first couple of notes. She had a unique voice that was far from "perfect". Very pleasant, but oh my... she needs to enunciate. "Din't we almos' 'ave i' awwwl? De nise we 'ad untilll de mornin'" EEK! Chip sang very beautifully I thought. He was worried about being corny and he shouldn't have been. Delightful voice and good pretty high notes at the end without sacrificing his masculinity. A little colorless next to some of the others, though. Juanita scared the sh!t outta me. I was like, "WHAT? The children! Oh my gawd! What's happening to them!!!???" There was no compassion in her voice. She sounded like she was at a political rally rather than a singing competition. She had a nasally, "street" voice. She also had a very crappy attitude and I think that's just pathetic. Glad she was trashed, couldn't have happened to a meaner, uglier person. Patrick was a bit of a disapointment. From auditions, i remember being over all pretty unimpressed by him, but was still looking forward to his unique take. I love his personality, but his singing isn't in par. Paula called him refreshing, which was true, but she stole some of the meaning behind it and the sentiment when she used that same compliment on someone else later that night. Nasheka was one of my favorites of the night. I really really liked her.Her outfit was a little bit slutty, but not too terrible terrible. I liked her smoky, sexy lounge singer act. Brilliant finish and overall good performance. Not a whole lot of personality in there, though. Joshua was just so "wow". I was unimpressed with him in earlier rounds, but he is so far my favorite performer in this contest. I really enjoyed his song and I love his personality, too. Very un-boring. Ashley I just wanted to hug. it sounded like she got up there for her high note then just couldn't come back down where she needed to be. Like maybe she got mnervous or somethnig. (Happened to all the girls we would try out for the advanced choir my senior year, and it's so sad to see happen.) She has that "it" factor though, and she will probably have great success in her life. Corey was the biggest surprise of the night. I still am not sure how I feel about his performance. Technically, he was very proficient, sure. But, his voice had such a feminine quality (and not just because of the high notes he can hit) that I was really turned off to his overall performance. He redeemed himslef though, and I'm sure he will go on, but I like my men and little more like MEN! He will go on the the final 10, 'm sure. Going on: Corey and Joshua. Chip and Nasheka are both contenders for the thrid place slot. Femme "I shall no longer play the field; the field stinks, both economically and socially."

LAST EDITED ON 02-26-03 AT 11:19 AM (EST)I agree with just about everything Femme said except I thought all the ladies were pretty awful and I liked Chip's performance a smidge better than Joshua's. Joshua sure does have the back story, tho. Image and marketing work already done. No wonder Simon loves him so much!!! Corey did a pretty good job also and I'm curious to see how he does later in the competition. His high pitched voice, almost permanent falsetto, limits his range, so song choice will be the key to his success. Just like Justin, he'll never do wrong in Paula's eyes. Rank: 1. Chip 2. Corey 3. Joshua Joshua and Corey advance.

Simon, you were wrong. This group did not blow away Group #3.1.)Josh - The best of the worst. His runs in the song were a bit too much for the song. 2.)Patrick - Don't think he was as bad as they said, I was surprised his comments were so negative. I thought he has a great voice. 3.)Chip - Good voice, boring performer. He even seemed boring during the Coke commercial!!! 4.)Ashley - I voted hard for Ashley because I don't want Corey to make it, I think being hot and gathering sympathy vote, she has a chance to advance. 5.)Nykesha - I thought she shouted the song, but wasn't as bad as the other two girls. 6.)Sylvia - An 'eh performance. It was mean the way the camera focused on her mouth (close up) during the song to accentuate her flaws. 7.)Juanita - I admit, I voted for Juanita one time--she was awful, but I wanted to do it for the children!!!! 8.)Corey - Audience. Manipulation. Re-listen to the song with your eyes closed. It's terrible, I don't like that mouse squealy voice (from a guy). At least if he makes the Top 10, I'll have someone to root against.

Aside from a couple of them, the marine and one other, this show was a complete waste of time. It was painful and annoying. And whats up with the attitude from some of them. I understand if they are ripping into you, you should retort, but when they are giving you constructive critisism, you should acknowledge it and move on, not go ape crap and show your age and ass. I think that one girl, who ripped into them (forget her name, but simon said, take everything back, you were fantastic) seriously jeopardized her chances for a wildcard with that rant. They were not saying you were terrible girl, they were trying to give you advice. Shut-up and actually listen to them. It is astonishing how foolish humans can be in groups, especially when they follow their leaders without question - States: The Bene Gesserit View. All States Are an Abstraction.

>Assuming that Joshua and Corey make >it through tonight, and that >there will be eight performers >on the wild card show, >as there have been in >every other round,Last season, there were only five kids asked back for the wildcard and RJ nailed his song and won the reprieve from the judges. He went on to finish in fifth place. I remember that Simon said, during that show, that they (the judges) wanted someone that would NOT be eliminated quickly by the public. Now, this time, there are going to be two wildcards, one chosen by the judges and the other by the public. I think the judges will invite six kids back, 8 seems like just too many. >My Predictions On How The Judges >Will Choose >Kimberly Caldwell (Wins Wild-Card Spot In >Top 10) >Clay Aiken >Equoia Coleman >Kimberly Kelsey (Wins Wild-Card Spot In >Top 10) >Chip Days >Patrick Fortson >Trenyce >George Trice I disagree on Trice and Fortson, they do not have the support of the judges and they did not preform all that well, especially Trice, who was BY FAR the worst of the 32.
Also, I disagree that the judges would choose Kim Kelsey to go to the top ten, I am pretty sure Clay got more support from them than she did. Kim Caldwell is a lock though. And, aside from Trice and Fortson, I do expect the other six to be invited to perform again.

15. "Constructive criticism rant" |
Mr. Bebo is a voice teacher, and one of his biggest frustrations is the number of students who cannot accept constructive criticism. They just expect to be lauded with praise, even if they haven't been practicing or haven't performed well. Um, if you were perfect, a) why would you need a teacher and b) why aren't you out there succeeding professionally already? Don't you want the money you're paying to go towards improving?I saw way too much of that attitude last night for my liking. Some of the judges comments were offered in that vein, such as Randy's comment to Sylvia about her enunciation or Paula's comments about oversinging. But instead of listening and thanking them for the constructive criticism, they had to argue about why the singer was right and the judges were wrong, no matter what they said. It just got on my nerves to hear the contestants telling the judges that they didn't know what they were talking about. If these folks are so incompetent, then why are you competing to be associated with them? And if you know so much better than them, then why do you need them to get a professional contract - shouldn't you already have one without them? I can appreciate respectful disagreement with a statement, but to dismiss everything out of hand and start an argument on everything is just ridiculous. Who voted for me at the Survivor Ep 2 TC???

I agree, but one thing you have to understand about me is tht I hate that attitude in ANYONE. I have nothing but problems with people like that, especially young teens. Someone must have pumped them full of that BS that you can do ANYTHING, but really, there are some things you really CANNOT do. They need to learn to accept critism, too, if they ever hope to improve. Just 'cause Mommy and Daddy think you're the best and that you can do no wrong, doesn't mean that you are. It's very discouraging to watch these young kids (some not much younger than me) act so offended that they are being worshipped or that they actually have to WORK for life, not have it handed to them on a silver platter.
