"Has Jill Had Surgery Yet to Remove the 40lb Tumor?"
There was such a sense of urgency on Iyanla's part when Jill was in the house concerning this so-called 40 lb. tumor. She received a lot of sympathy from the viewing public and hearts went out to her for not having health insurance and some made Iyanla the villian for making Jill cart around all that heavy baggage. Then after Jill divulged her health crisis to Miss Iyanla, they went as far as making this tumor part of one of Jill's assignments by having her research state-assisted hospitals and doctors which could perform the surgery. So what happened with this big emergency? I'm reading various posts here which mention Jill starting a new job and is battling her weight but what about the tumor? Did Starting Over blow it out of proportion or does Jill just not care about it? When Iyanla pointed her finger at Jill and said "you're a liar", I think Iyanla hit the nail on the head.

From what she has said on web chats she is taking medication to shrink the tumor. She has done nothing to schedule surgery.Who knows if that means she was lying? You have to remember that Jill is lazy and will avoid anything difficult to deal with.I mean how fast would you remove a tumor after they discovered it?I would have gotten my surgery scheduled before I even left the gynecologist's office!

Is she lazy or is she scared to have the surgery? Fear, I believe, is what rules her--hence the lies and even the laziness for that matter because she is immobilized and paralyzed by fear.

You would think that FEAR (HELLO!) would be the driving force that would get her off her lazy behind and get something done about that tumor!

FEAR, in this case, can lead to death! How lame can a person be?? As a nurse, I just see no excuses for this.

Of course, if I were a psychologist, I might find a few, but this whole situation is just beyond anything I can comprehend. Is there a self-destruction element going on here???

Actually, I do believe that with Jill fear is the underlying cause for her seeming inability to deal with the tumor issue. After all, if Jill really did go ahead and have the tumor removed, then she wouldn't have any excuses why she couldn't achieve her star-struck lofty goals of "living large" (whatever that's supposed to mean). While she still carries the tumor around in her, she has a ready excuse as to why she hasn't been able to achieve her goals (I can't even remember now what they were).

I do believe there is a self-destructing, self-loathing element going on with Jill as well as DENIAL because of her fear. Jill hides behind her "woe is me" routine because it's easier than facing her demons. Jill IMO is a liar, but the only one she is lying and hurting is herself.

15. "RE: Has Jill Had Surgery Yet to Remove the 40lb Tumor?"
The initial urgency with Jill's tumor was the doc's concern that it was originating from her ovary (which can be very painful and life-threatening).

Further testing revealed that her ovaries weren't affected and it wasn't a "singular" 40# tumor, but multiple tumors that were endometrial in origin--hence, no urgency, not life-threatening.

Jill was told that it would be better to lose some weight before she had the surgery. All that adipose tissue would make healing difficult. The doc's also gave her drugs that would shrink the tumors somewhat, making it a little more comfortable for her while she lost weight.

Last report I heard was Jill had lost 60 pounds and had not yet had the surgery.

If I remember correctly from back then, part of the issue in delaying the surgery was also that after losing her job she had no medical insurance to pay for the cost of surgery. Though I agree, there is very likely some fear/avoidance going on as well.

5. "RE: Has Jill Had Surgery Yet to Remove the 40lb Tumor?"
As I've said before in another thread, the word "tumor" can be very alarming. What Jill has is fibroid tumors. Jill went to one doctor selected by the SO staff and he was the one that shot out the alarming words "forty pound tumor." He also said that Jill must have surgery right away and that it was vital and life-threatening.

So Jill and Iyanla decided that Jill should seek state aid in paying for her care (even though she is not a resident of the state of California). When she applied she was told to get a second opinion - this time by a doctor appointed by the state. So this doctor determined that the situation was not as serious as the first doctor stated (in that she wouldn't die if she didn't have surgery right away). He recommended that Jill lose a significant amount of weight before having surgery.

And here we are a year later wondering if Jill has had surgery for her non-cancerous fibroid tumors. And wondering if Jill has lost anymore weight. She has lost weight and is taking medication to shrink the fibroid tumors. She has not had surgery.

Didn't Jill have a stroke the first time she had an operation on the tumor years ago? BTW...... Living large was Allisons' goal, which I found ironic since living large can be used to describe someone living beyond their means ( that's how I first heard it 13 years ago) or it can be used for a large sized person. ( Yes, I know how Ilyanla intended its meaning as applied to Allison) I can see how this could've been confused for Jill's goal (maybe it WAS hers' also and I'm mistaken) Anyway the expression has irony, as it can be used positively or negatively. Not so easy to find a good ironic expression like that! Gotta love it!!!

The tumor, IMO, would be far easier to safely remove after using medication to shrink it. Weight loss, too, would make the surgery safer. IMO, with less likelihood of another stroke. And, Jill's second MD discovered that the tumor wasn't life threatening enough for immediate surgery.

7. "RE: Has Jill Had Surgery Yet to Remove the 40lb Tumor?"
Jill did have a stroke with the first surgery. I think her weight may of been a factor in that. However she did know that she had that one tumor left over from it. She was told by the doctor it couldn't be removed due to it's placement. I think it was on an artery?

I don't think the second doctor was wrong for telling her to lose weight before a surgery like that again. He's probably suggesting it to avoid all the possible complications that could cause. (ie stroke!)

I think SO played up the tumor as much as it does all the other little nothings. Like Bethany's big secret that made her forget everything.

I truly don't believe S.O. played up the "forty lb. tumor". I believe Iyanla had a legitimate concern and I feel she did everything in her power to get Jill motivated to do something about it without insurance. I also believe that if Jill received health insurance right now and lost the necessary weight for surgery, she would still not have the surgery.

You see, THAT is the thing that really bugs (bugged) me about SO-they start out with this BIG DEAL going on (we could sit here for days naming them), then before you know it, nothing else is said, and it's just gone to the way side, like it never happened! WHAT IS UP WITH THAT??

Are they just trying to drive us crazy, make us pay attention, or do they think we're so stupid that we'll just totally forget things like a 40# tumor, a drinking problem, an internet porn site, migraines that are life-threatening, etc.

I can see why so many people are getting fed up with this show! It's nerve-wracking to get so involved in someone's life, then have thoe attachments just blown out the window like yesterday's dust! Ah well, the drama of daytime t.v., eh??

You said it perfectly. That's SO in a nutshell.. Huge deal then....NOTHING! Very unresolved.

If they ever wonder what happened to make them lose alot of their viewers, that editing trick of the huge build up and then a flat fall would be why!

Well it makes sense why the show won't be returning. Eventually antics like the ones Starting Over's producers pulled routinely, have all back fired. The viewers can only take so much of the show's stupidity-- such antics insult people's intelligence and also compromises the integrity of the houseguests.

The "break-in" was the production team making a huge mess as an exercise in co-operation for the housemates who at that point were not bonding. It was also for Allison, to see how freaked out she'd get at the mess.

Other posters are free to concur or dispute this, but that's what I saw when I watched the re-runs again this summer.

I think the break in was the season two break in that people have mentioned. The one that was hyped up to look like Sommer had a hand in it and then the whole thing was conviently dropped and nothing was mentioned of it again. imo

20. "RE: Has Jill Had Surgery Yet to Remove the 40lb Tumor?"
Jill is living in fear, that's the reason she isn't having the tumor addressed. She has dragged her butt for over 10 years regarding this tumor. It isn't tops on her list. Her excuses were convenient stalling methods for not getting this done. She hid her head under the covers like a child would hoping it would just go away. She said she was afraid on the show to have the tumor rectified because she wanted children. Her irrational fear of doctors correcting the problem and possibly finding more and perhaps inhibiting her ability to have children weighed more than instantly losing 40 lbs, looking better, feeling better, and more importantly being healthy. Crazy thinking to be in fear of possibly not being able to have children and at presently definately not being able to have children as long as that tumor is there.

Wake up Jill, your biological clocking is ticking louder. Unless you address it you might just miss your window.

Now you got the job, soon your 90 day probation period will be up, you've claimed you've lost weight so go get the operation. PRONTO

I am not sure of how much is true on this "tumor" thing. Since I battle uterus problems for 3 years now, on and off with recurring cyst and such. Now since 3 months I have 2 of those uterine fibroids, way smaller than Jill has, but I am telling you in those last 3 months I have become irretable and depressed due to the fact of the pain and constant bleeding. I had a D&C 14 months ago and a fibroid was taken out then with the same symptoms. Now they are located in a different area and can`t be removed that easily with a D&C. My next appointment is in 5 days, and I am telling you I will insist on a Hysterectomy cause I can`t deal with this pain and sideeffects anymore. There are some fibroids who are located in an area where they don`t give you troubles but I can`t imagine running around with them for 10 years and not having problems, they push on your blatter or bowls and you will be running to the bathroom every 30 min or other side effects as well.
