PLEASE NOTE: The Reality TV World Message Boards are filled with desperate
attention-seekers pretending to be one big happy PG/PG13-rated family. Don't
be fooled. Trying to get everyone to agree with you is like herding cats,
but intolerance for other viewpoints is NOT welcome and respect for other
posters IS required at all times. Jump in and play, and you'll soon find out
how easy it is to fit in, but save your drama for your mama. All members are
encouraged to read the
complete guidelines.
As entertainment critic Roger
Ebert once said, "If you disagree with something I write, tell me so, argue
with me, correct me--but don't tell me to shut up. That's not the American way."

You said it. But I have missed this. I grew up on playoff games, World Series wins and losses, but this playoff drought has been painful. No matter what happens tonight, we Orioles fans can hold our heads high again. Buck is looking like a genius for having 12 pitchers on his postseason roster.

LAST EDITED ON 10-14-12 AT 01:22 PM (EST)That game was just surreal. I tuned in about the 7th inning and was glued to the game from there on as I just knew that Valturde wasn't going to give us the typical shut-down final inning. He sure didn't disappoint! It felt good to see that useless money pit fall down flat on his face and then get pinch-hit for once again. If I was the manager, I would have benched him as soon as he failed to make a serious effort to move the runners around with men on second and third with nobody out. Most expensive bench player in history, and hopefully this will be the start to stemming the tide against those ridiculous 10 year, $200+ million contracts. But, boy, the Yanks are in real trouble. The Tigers, sans Valturde, just turned in 11 2/3 shutout innings and their two best pitchers are still to come (Verlander and Scherzer). Meanwhile, the Yanks have to make do without Jeter the rest of the way and have almost everyone in their lineup slumping in a big way. They still have to use up two mediocre pitchers before CC can go out there again. The bullpen is overworked after three extra inning games in their last four. Hate to see such an injury happen to a classy guy like Jeter, but I look forward to the Yanks being eliminated by the Tigers once again.

At this point, I'm pretty sure the Yankees are looking for a way to finish the last game with a score of Zero To Negative One.

They sure aren't hitters: the last two games saw a total of five in the column. How does an entire team have a simultaneous power and average outage like that? Ask the Mets...Front page of the Post was a baseball inscribed with a message to the team from the city, informing the Bronxies that New York doesn't date losers. It just elects them to the mayorship. And A-Rod won't be running for a while, unless it's to Miami. GM Brian Cashman claims they're not going to change their Weaveresque strategy of waiting for the three-run homer because they are, quote, not the Bronx Bunters, unquote. Really? How about the Bronx Move A Runner Over From First? The Bronx Take A Pitch Once A Century? At this point, I'm sure the fanbase would have settled for the Bronx Lean Into The Pitch, The Pain Will Wear Off Eventually. And now we get treated to a fall, winter, and possibly spring of A-Rod trade rumors. Gee, there's the gift that keeps on giving. How much of his contract would the Yankees be willing to pick up? Would the Mets do an even swap for Jason Bay? Can the Lightning Rod extort a few extra million for waiving his no-trade clause? And as noted on sports talk radio today, when this guy goes into the Hall Of Fame in a decade or so, is anyone gonna show up? Seattle: alienated. Texas: wants nothing to do with him. New York: lost. He'll be introduced by the one man he ever made happy: his agent. And he'll have to pay for the honor. Let's turn back to the sports talk stations for a moment. Trade Cano. Release. Trade, release, and flay. Dump the entire team. Sign most of Detroit and call them the new Yankees. Treat both leagues as the farm system. Who's a free agent? Who can we get for cash? Doesn't matter: it's not a real season because it never happened: a real season is when the Yankees win and since that didn't take place, rewind and erase. And sign the Cy Young winner. From both leagues. At eighty million a year each. Then complain about not being able to afford a game ticket any more. There are rational Yankee fans, but they never seem to make the air.

The company I was visiting had three groups of very good seats, but being a playoff game, all were already allocated to people more important than me, so I was left to fend for myself. (This is the same company who gave me tickets to the BMW Championship golf tournament last month, so I wasn't feeling deprived.) Having never attended a playoff baseball game, I still didn't want to miss the opportunity for the NLCS.My hotel was a few blocks from Busch Stadium, so I put on my Cardinals hat and left about a half-hour before game time to join the masses walking toward the stadium. Before long I ran into the first few ticket brokers but wasn't having any luck finding one who would split a pair of tickets to sell me one. During the fourth or fifth conversation along those lines, a woman overheard me and said she had an extra ticket. (It was the Byoffer effect. ) A ticket scalper was pushily trying to buy the ticket from her for $60, and seeing my opportunity, I said I'd give her $60 for it. This made the scalper even pushier and ruder, but the women (there were three in the group) all wanted to sell the ticket to me since I was going to use it personally. So I bought the ticket, face value $75, seat in the right field corner, and watched the game with the three women. Despite me being a stranger, we had a good time watching the game, and I walked a few blocks with them after the game before splitting up to head back to my hotel. It was a fun night.

Unfortunately my seat was in the right field corner, so I had no view of the arch. But this was the third game I'd attended at Busch, so I'd previously seen the arch view, and you're correct, it's very impressive.St. Louis baseball fans are great, and the playoff atmosphere was electric. The giveaway was a white Cardinals towel, so that meant 45,000 people were simultaneously waving those towels throughout the game. Even though it was chilly and it started to drizzle in the 8th inning, not many people left even with the score 8-1 Cardinals. Very impressive fanbase, indeed.
