"The Apprentice: Martha Stewart- 16 candidates, all double and triple threats!" |
Martha Stewart can be justly proud of all the potential apprentices on her first foray into Mark Burnett/Donald Trump territory. NBC and RTW have announced the 16 candidates- http://www.realitytvworld.com/index/articles/story.php?s=3671 and they are a very high caliber group from an educational, business and creative standpoint. I had originally envisioned this show as a variation on "Wickedly Perfect" but based on the varied, impressive backgrounds of the group, I think the tasks will be a lot more demanding than the ones on WP. NBC has said that there will be "tasks ranging from entertaining and design, to merchandising and technology". Although the group is multi-talented, I think how the teams are divided will be crucial, since individual skills and strengths will add greatly to each team. The youngest contestant, David, only 22, looks a little like Danny and already has Andy marked on his chest. They're a really good-looking group. After seeing this group, I have high hopes for the show.

The Donald and Martha versions will be running together -- things could get crowded in here really fast.

Actually, before I posted initially, I was thinking of pming Bebo to ask exactly that question, but I figured she's so busy with BB right now that this could wait. It certainly makes sense to have an individual forum since there so many candidates on each show, different tasks etc. After all, as the article said, this show's going to have a conference room and a loft, so vive la difference!

I agree. There need to be separate blogs for The Donald's: Apprentice. The whole thing will become pretty hard to follow. Besides, I thought the first Martha show couldn't touch The Donald's show with a ten foot pole. What is he thinking? To use the same format?

I am looking forward to this show. I enjoyed "Wickedly Perfect" (well I didn't like the outcome...) so this should be fun. I also hope the ratings for this show do better than Trump's show. I think it would drive him crazy.

Loree, I agree with you completely about "Wickedly Perfect". I still don't understand how Kimberly, who kept doing the same project over and over, ever won. In terms of Trump's feelings about Martha's ratings, I think he's in a win/win situation (although he may be jealous) since he's executive producer and an equal partner with Burnett on Martha's show. Here's the RTW article written when the show was first announced: http://www.realitytvworld.com/index/articles/story.php?s=3225So if Martha, who's receiving about $100,000 an episode, does really well, then Trump will just be raking in some more bucks. I bet he'll say that Martha's show is doing so well because it's new, there's the novelty factor, etc. etc. Since the article talks about an Apprentice franchise, maybe there'll be The Apprentice: Bill Gates or one I'd really love- The Apprentice:Steven Spielberg.

Funny how some of them mention their pets ~ any edge they can get.One of the contestants has my first name ~ it will be strange hearing Martha say my name especially if she ends up being a drain. Hopefully, there will be more professionalism and less back stabbing and cat fights. http://news.yahoo.com/comics/My blind (yet immature) choice would be for the young man to win. I'd like the choice to be for someone who would really benefit.

10. "RE: What is Markkk Burnett's problem with black people?" |
With what appears to be at least two Hispanic-American women, an Asian-American, and two gay men in the cast, it certianly seems pretty diverse to me. I guess that I'm not one of those folks who deems the presence or lack thereof of African-Americans as the only way to measure diversity. The cast even features someone who lives in Mexico, when was the last time you saw that on an American reality show?

25. "An explanation & a question" |
For those people who are new to message board life....This is a "general discussion" board. For some shows, we have separate "fanatics" and "bashers" boards, to keep people who like to slam the show (bashers) separate from those who love the show (fanatics). But we've never had enough posting on The Apprentice forums to warrant that (though that may change this year, with the second version of the show). Thus, on this forum, you find people who love the show ... and also people who love to make fun of the show. We expect (hope?) that they'll co-exist without fighting over their different perspectives. Sometimes that's not possible. But there just has never been enough traffic to warrant two boards for the Apprentice series. In this case, we have a classic clash between two people with different perspectives. ladro is a well-known "basher." ladydzgner is clearly a fan, perhaps with a connection to the show. Instead of asking about the connection nicely, ladro posted a "bash"-type response: "Are you married to one of the contestants?" There is nothing specifically wrong with that, since this board (supposedly) accomodates both fans and bashers. But immediately things began spinning out of control. So ... before things get any worse in here, I have a question. I see people in here have been proposing the creation of a separate forum for "The Apprentice: Martha Stewart." Would it be better to do that ... or would it be better to try to separate Apprentice bashers from Apprentice fanatics and leave the Trump and Martha versions lumped together? This is a serious question, so please let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

26. "RE: An explanation & a question" |
AyaK, I think that there should definitely be a separate forum for "The Apprentice: Martha Stewart." After all, if the show was just "Martha Stewart:The Next Intern" or whatever, there would be no question that the show merited its own forum. What might work, in addition, is one Bashers thread for the two shows. That way, a lot of the bashing of the contestants, tasks etc. could even be compared and contrasted. I think it will be fun to compare the two shows and this way there would be a specific place to do it. The combined thread might even be broader than just Bashers- maybe "Apprentice Times Two" almost like a mishmash thread where people who want to bash either show, discuss either show, etc. could come. 27. "RE: An explanation & a question" |
LAST EDITED ON 08-30-05 AT 12:18 PM (EST)I vote for a separate "Martha" forum as well. It could get really confusing to open threads titled "I can't stand Jennifer!", for example, when there is the potential for the same name to be on both shows. I don't think there's a huge need for a separate "bashers" forum (I've seen fanatics and bashers peacefully co-exist here before, for the most part). If you set it up so that when you click on "The Apprentice" from our menu (over there on the left) we can access GenDisc for Donald, GenDisc for Martha & "spoilers", I think that would work well. I think the 2 shows could share the "spoilers" forum because there isn't always a whole bunch of traffic over there. Slice & Dice Sigpic Chop Shop 2005 ETA: Thank you, AyaK, for asking us for our input!

14. "TV Guide: Can we predict how the candidates will do from their quotes?" |
LAST EDITED ON 08-24-05 AT 01:29 PM (EST)This week's TV Guide in Insider: First Look introduces "Martha's Minions" and says that all the candidates were "dying to be on the show". Each candidate gives a quote and while I don't want to say "suck up", I wonder if the suckier (is there such a word or is it "more sucky"? ) the quote, the further the candidate will go on the show. Here ares the quotes with my Suck quotient included: Sarah: "I don't know what I want to do with my life, so this is a great way to figure it out." This is the quote of a true potential apprentice but I don't think Martha will be thrilled. Shawn: "I want to be the white Oprah, and next to Oprah, Martha is the queen of all media." The suck level goes through the roof! Jeffery: "Someone once told me to never pass up the opportunity to be in a room with the smartest person. I figured this is that chance." Another quote goes through the roof! Marcela: "She's the person in my professional life who I want to work for. The chance to be close to her is huge." There are so many quotes going through the roof, they'll need an air traffic controller to monitor it all. Bethenny: "I like being challenged, and there's none bigger than working for the ultimate perfectionist." What can I say? Chuck: "I'm a lifelong fan and follower of Martha." I like this one because it isn't so over the top. Carrie: "I blow glass and really want to help build up the American craft movement." A noble goal but the suck factor's zero, for a pleasant change. Howie: "It's an amazing opportunity for myself and my business-and I really want to be on TV." At last, a self-admitted DAW but a suck factor of zero! Jim: "Since I make a five-figure salary, I'm hoping Martha will turn me into a billionaire like her." Another honest quote! (and he's so cute, I want dibs!) Amanda: "I wanted to understand how she cross-markets her products, and I just felt God was leading me in this direction." Is this "The Apprentice" or "Miss America"( Trump does love beauty pageants) Jennifer: "I haven't seen a lot of people who look like me on The Apprentice. So I thought, "Hey, I'm going to represent Asian culture." Hello, Ivana and Tammy. David: "I was excited to be part of her comeback." Ouch, does Martha want to call it that? Dawna: "An apprenticeship is learning from the best." Just about right! Leslie: "I want to be part of a company that's changing the way we live." Another good one. Ryan: " I'm good enough to get a top-level executive job without having to work my way up." This is usually said by a Rockefeller or Walton but he's another one that's so cute that I want dibs on him, too. Dawn: "Her business focuses on the how-to. I'm saying, "I don't know how to do any of this!" She needs people like me." Martha'll be the judge of that! All in all, Trump's got to be pretty jealous. The overall suck-up factor is very, very high. Air traffic controllers, start your radar!
