If I am Tony Bonsante, I want to stick around to get as much exposure as possible. He wants a big payday before he retires and it may be after the Contender is over.

Matt Vanda and Tony Bonsante have a big Minneapolis/St. Paul area boxing rivalry which may eventually come to blows in one of the biggest fights in a long time in Minnesota.

The Bullet has already talked with Sugar Ray (way before The Contender) about a possible fight here. Now that Bonsante has annihilated another fighter in the ring for everyone to see, interest in a possible match up with Vanda will be escalated and they may be able to pack a place like the Target Center, or Excel Energy center.

In my opinion, this is why he did it, to guarantee that he would stick around long enough for additional exposure, and to build notoriety.

I don't know about doing that as a set-up for a fight with Vanda. I think he wants that $1 mil, which would be a much bigger payday than a fight with "The Predator".

But it's funny you mentioned Vanda cuz' I was thinking today about why he wasn't in the tournament. He's on par, more or less, with Peter Mafredo.

I'm sure the fight would be big in Minnesota. It should be on ShoBox, however, that way both men would get a realistically big paycheck.
It's also funny how you mention Sugar Ray, being that S.R. used to promote Vanda.

I think it would be a relatively easy fight to make.

I don't think that "The Bullet" ever thought he had a real chance to win this thing. He just wants to get as far as he can.

You never know. I'm sure he dreamt about winning that mil. With a couple of exceptions, the fighters in the tournament are around the same level, more or less.
It wasn't like there was a Roy Jones or De la Hoya in the bunch.
I would think Bosante wanted to win that million, like all the other fighters, and had enough confidence in his ability to give himself a reasonable chance.

I don't Matt Vanda was on his mind during this tourney. Winning that million dollars was. And with that, given the other fighters he was surrounded by, I think he was focused on THEM at the time. Matt Vanda was probably the furthest thing from his mind.
