The show will go on...it's a top show and a huge money maker.

The show's fortunes will depend on its casting...the talent will make or break the show. Look at how Dancing With The Stars is doing this year--by putting people on like Kate G and Chad O they got people tuning in just to see whether they are train wrecks or not. And Chad O brings in viewers from one of the biggest reality tv show markets in the US--Cincinnati.

I think Kansas City is another big reality tv show market, so AI needs to pay attention and cast someone talented from Cincinnati and Kansas City to pull in some guaranteed viewership. And then there's the tried and true loading the cast with people from the south. This year's cast doesn't have much of that except for Texas representation.

It also helps if they cast a dozen people who can really sing well, and not as much fodder as they have some years.

We can dream!

It'll be interesting to see how the upcoming X Factor, also to be shown on Fox starting September 2011 contrasts and rates against AI. I have a notion they'll show on separate nights (not the same night at different times), but it'll remain to be seen whether one show cannibalizes the other show's audience or not. For some music comp junkies, it's the best of both worlds, but for some other folks, two nights is enough.

I was thinking one would be on in the fall and one in the spring?

I hadn't thought about that, but that would work. Neither show would lose out to the other.
