"Last Comic Standing, Episode 2"

Another great show!

The Top 20 was pretty tough to weed out, but I did select a Top 10, and I got 7 out of 10, so that's not too bad. There were people who I refused to like because I didn't like them in their previous audition, but they did deliver in Las Vegas, i.e. that Mantell guy from Minneapolis, but I still wouldn't have put him in my Top 10.

Who didn't think Ralphie May and Tess wouldn't make it into the house? They were kind of obvious picks for the Top 10. And well deserved.

Dat Phan, more HILARIOUS material. I really would like to see him win. But he does seem to linger on the Asian jokes, while Witherspoon commented on Ant sticking to the gay material.

Korey Kahaney was GREAT in her New York auditon, I thought she was a bit less in Las Verga but I still picked her for my Top 10 and Sean Kent (Cancer Guy), I didn't know how I felt about him prior, but he's got some chops.

The Spikey-Haired girl did a good job on stage, and her look really is a pretty good gimmick. And Rich Vos. I still don't think this guy belongs on the show because I thought he was an established comic. Oh well, he did well.

Sorry to Ant, Jen Kirwin, and Carmen Lynch. I REALLY liked Carmen Lynch, she was my favorite from New York, and I still think she was hilarious. I think it's her delivery that cracks me up.

I watched it, and I enjoyed it very much. A lot of these guys were really funny.

Some of those I thought would make it, didn't; and some I thought wouldn't make it, did. I was suprised that Korey Kahaney made it. I thought Ant was good, especially his responses to Witherspoon, but he didnt' make it.

And Tess: I wasn't sure about her. I thought she was funny, but didn't know if she would actually make it. But she did.

Good thing Victoria Jackson wasn't competing... she bombed bad. But Witherspoon was good... and helped them out with leading questions that the contestants could run with.

Ralphie, the big guy who talked about the Thai baby elephant, was really hilarious. I was hoping he'd make it. Dat Phan was also good, as was the guy from Texas (his name escapes me, he's the cancer survivor).

One thing was the editing. They don't have very long routines, just a few jokes, usually one theme and that's it, but it was hard to tell exactly what was going on because of the editing.

But this really is a good show. I give it the Dawg Seal Of Approval.

I only caught part of this show last night, but Dat Phan (sp?) was definitely my favorite. He has great material. I'd like to see him win. He is getting a lot of camera time, I wonder if the editors want us to like him as well?

I didn't like the spike--haired chick, I thought there were others more deserving than her.

Nope, Miss multi-ponytailed "cha cha cha" just isn't funny. Especially not if she has to insert her tag line more than once in a 30 second set. It was old the first time she did it.

Ralphie and Dat though.....hilarious! Ralphie is still the only one who makes me really bust a gut. He's gotta win! I don't think anyone else comes close.

Except for a couple others I'd like to have seen in, I actually have to agree with most of the picks. I think Lang (the buff Wisconsin gal) didn't get in mainly because her routine was a rehash of the prior one.

Correct me if I'm wrong (wouldn't be the first time) but I got the impression Ant has played Vegas before. I was reading a bunch of comedy house reviews and I could swear I saw his name mentioned in the reviews. Unless it was another Ant, but I doubt it.

When I was watching last night, I couldn't help but notice Ant looking really familiar. But I can't place him. I think he's pulling a Rich Vos... already have a reputable stand-up career (if there's such a thing) and still going on this show.

It's a nice change to be able to laugh with the cast of a reality show instead of at them.

For those who missed it the episodes repeat on Comedy Central (Times are MST so check your own listings):

I like this show, I've never watched a single minute of American Idol, Fame, American Juniors, or Top Model, but I've always been a sucker for standup comedy specials. And I've also like Jay Mohr.

I just hope they don't focus on what happens in the house, I want to laugh -- I can watch Real World, Road Rules, Baording House, etc. if I'm looking for "household" drama.

I agree, SB. The previews for next week made it seem like it was going to be all about their interactions living at the house. Same old, Same old. We tuned in for the comedy, not the drama!

Go, Ralphie, it's ya birfday!

Love Dave Mordal. Dat Phan aiiight.

Geoff Brown representin the hometown, the Windy City. Boo-yah.

Rich Vos - uh, sleazy much? No offense to anyone here, unless it applies then feel free to be offended, but waaaay too NY for my tastes. By the way, a pretty big headliner in the NY clubs. Not really all that undiscovered now, is he?

I think Lang from Wisconsin choked and all of the other women sucked. Sucked big.

Ant was a pest, wasn't he?

And could all of the generic dark haired, late twenties dudes trying so hard to be funny and NOT succeeding, just shut up and go away.

If you think Eddie Pepitone is funny, we could never be hang.

This should be good.
