"My idea for the new buildings once Ground Zero is all cleaned up."

Sure, it's not very creative, but I think it's the best. Build them again. EXACTLY THE SAME. Same height, same color, same location, orientation, EVERYTHING EXACTLY THE SAME. With of course, much stronger building materials and capable of withstanding nukes.

I say, stick a memorial somewhere in there, but the skyline must be the same. No new building, no new skyline. Make them again, exactly the same, that way, when you watch an old movie or TV show, and they show up, you don't cringe at the thought of them not really being there anymore.

That's my idea, and dammit I like it. Not only is it a big F you to the bastards that did this horrible thing, but it will also be a great symbol that America will not change for them or for anyone. I say rebuild them. EXACTLY. No new added features. Put the antenna on the north tower just like last time. Restore the skyline.

Being from Texas my whole life I never got the chance to see them before 9-11. Of course I saw them in movies and such, but never in person. In a way I think that rebuilding them exactly the same would send a message to Bin Lauden saying Screw You, but on the other hand, I think about WHY he chose them in the first place. They symbolized power and greatness. Whose to say that if we rebuild them, he won't try it again. Hmm. Just my thoughts.

Ok so I posted a really decent reply and it didn't show up. To summarize, I was saying that A) It would be a good move. It would send the message that we can't be beat. Kick us all you want, but we are always get back up and come hunt your ass down. and B) It might provoke the same response as before.

"Sorry, Crimsyn"

Sorry, but I neglected to check this forum for messages awaiting posting for a few weeks!

This is a "moderated forum" (not a locked one, as people sometimes think from the image) -- messages must be approved by one of the forum moderators before they get posted. Usually that's me. If you don't see your message show up within a few hours after posting, please send me an e-mail and I'll release it (as long as it isn't offensive, disrespectful, etc.).

So ... you start out saying that rebuilding would show our strength, then you worry that it might provoke the same response. Which should we do: rebuild or worry?

Oh goodness. I posted that a long time ago, back when I first joined and didn't know anything about the boards. The way I see it now, one year later, is basically this : Yes, rebuild. Build them the exact same as they were. They were there for a reason, not just for looks, but for an acutal purpose. People worked there everyday. It wasn't just something to make the skyline interesting. Build it back and put the same companies right where they were. Chances are, an attack won't happen again. If it does, then our National Security sucks ass and we've all got a problem. And if it does happen again, nuke the hell outta whoever does it.

the problem is that even if you go to the trouble to rebuild the towers, thus making a strong statement to Bin Laden, etc., you still have to find people to work in it. Just as putting them back up would be a terrific f-u to the terrorists, blowing them up again would be an equally big f-u for them to throw right back at us. I've worked in downtown NYC for the last 13 years and I can tell you that only fools would be in any rush to take a job at a new WTC tower. My brother-in-law is still in the Empire State Building, and hates it. There is a constant flow of people getting out of there, though it's kept quiet.

We, along with those in DC, live under the constant, depressing knowledge that when the next attack comes, it's going to happen either here or there. The question for me is whether or not I'll get home next time.

For the last two weeks, all the nightmares have come flooding back. Nightly nuclear explosions and crashing planes fill my dreams and I suppose I can look forward to a couple more weeks of this. Yes, it's my choice to continue to come here every day, and when I allow myself to sit and contemplate it, I question why I do it. But right now, with the given job market and the monthly bills, my choices are slim and none.

This next week is really going to suck, but at least I'm still alive.

LC I agree with you in every way. A year? Seems like a few months ago to me. The thought of something so awful happening anywhere again chills me to the bone. I am more aware of everyone around me and the sound of a plane or helicopter draws my eyes to the window or the sky without fail. I have nightmares too, the kind you wake up from with your heart pounding. The time frame on these symptoms going away is anyone's guess but I've been told everyone has their own timetable, there is no norm as far as this catastrophe is concerned. I think this is more something we live with and get through, not get over. I'm taking off the 11th, I know I won't want to be here. I hope you can do the same.

In my book anyone who can still work downtown or in a tall building here is doing pretty ok. Next week IS going to suck. I'm right here with you if that helps

Moonbaby, I can relate to the above soooo much. When I'm out at lunch and walking to or from the PATH station, I absolutely HATE it when a plane flies over.

That and the sound of more than one police/fire siren at the same time gets me jumpy too. One day, I was passed by four fire trucks and a police car, with helicopters in the air. I turned around and went home.
