Pictures, videos and well... pictures and videos. Discuss

Note: Changing Subject to use Week Number instead of Episode Number to avoid the confusion when CBS airs double episodes but only numbers one of the two episodes.

The castaways battle to prove which group has what it takes to win - Heroes, Healers or Hustlers. Also, one tribe will earn an advantage when the game is immediately "ignited" by the season's first challenge, and there is a super idol that comes with a new twist, on the 35th season premiere of Survivor, Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 8/7c. Only CBS

Update 9/27/2017 Fixed the Full Size Image Links

Season 35 Week 1 Episode 1 CBS Survivor Press Express Press Images

There are 4 Cameras for S35 Week 1 Episode 1 Press Images

I assume each photographer has his camera time set for his home local time zone which in April would be:

Cam1 | PST = UTC-8 | Robert Voets | Canon EOS 5D Mark IV
Cam2 | PST = UTC-8 | Robert Voets | SONY ILCE-7SM2
Cam3 | EST = UTC-5 | Timothy Kuratek | FUJIFILM X-T2
Cam4 | EST = UTC-5 | Timothy Kuratek | FUJIFILM X-Pro2

Fiji Standard Time (FJT) = UTC+12

So the conversion from PST or EST to FJT for each Camera is:

Cam1 | PST = UTC-8 +20 Hours = FJT | Robert Voets | Canon EOS 5D Mark IV
Cam2 | PST = UTC-8 +20 Hours = FJT | Robert Voets | SONY ILCE-7SM2
Cam3 | EST = UTC-5 +17 Hours = FJT | Timothy Kuratek | FUJIFILM X-T2
Cam4 | EST = UTC-5 +17 Hours = FJT | Timothy Kuratek | FUJIFILM X-Pro2

Note: It appears that Timothy Kuratek camera times are not in sync with Robert Voets so I subtracted 4.5 minutes from Timothy Kuratek camera times

Thanks so much for all the hard work, Sheldor! Greatly appreciated! Here is a pic from the intro of Ali and it sure looks like WINNING celebration to me....Red team is winner?

Also, I tried copying and pasting the press images and I was unable to, but if you look closely after the marooning, it appears that there is a competition going on. All three of the boats are in the water and paddling toward the beach. You can see some apparatus on the beach as well. Clearly, yellow must win it, and then blue, and red last.

Must be for reward. If you look at the flags, there appears to be scuba fishing gear at the winning yellow tribes camp flag, pots and pans at the blue flag, and nada at the red flag. All to support a reward challenge race to something right off the boat.

So from the beginning Jiffy probably presents them with stay and get as much stuff on the boat as you can, or get off quickly and win a very good reward. Clearly yellow chooses the latter while red chose the bird in hand.

Survivor: How a teen came up with the first challenge twist of season 35

Here’s what happens when your daughter pitches a ‘Survivor’ challenge idea

(Here is the text of the article with thumbnail images linked to the Full Size images.)

Children always want to outdo their parents. At least my children do. My daughter Violet already showed me up by publishing her first EW music review at the age of 3 (Her review of Raffi: “This CD closes my eyes, because it makes me sleepy.”) Now 14, she is trying to displace me as Entertainment Weekly’s resident Survivor expert. Even worse, she is now getting her ideas on the show.

About a year ago, after watching me successfully lobby Survivor producers to start hiding immunity idols at challenges, Violet had her own idea. Instead of giving tribes the same choice in a challenge — like selecting between a 5, 10, or 50 piece puzzle — Violet’s twist was that the first team to arrive at that section of the competition was allowed to choose between all three options, the second team must select from the remaining two choices, and the last tribe was stuck with what’s left.

So I sent host Jeff Probst and challenge producer John Kirhoffer an email with her idea. Like most pitches, it seemed to go nowhere — until the two started discussing the first immunity challenge of the upcoming Heroes v. Healers v. Hustlers season (which premieres Sept. 27 on CBS). “When our new challenge came up,” says Kirhoffer. “I think it may have been Jeff who said, ‘Do you think Dalton’s daughter’s idea works here?'”

Apparently, the answer was yes. The challenge is titled “Tracks of My Tears,” and here’s how it maps out: “On ‘Go!’ the tribes sprint to a tall platform and climb a cargo net to the top,” explains Kirhoffer.

“They then work together to pull a very heavy wooden cart from a field to the top of the tower. Once at the top, they all get in, release the cart and careen down a steep ramp, and crash through a huge pile of sawdust.”

Click for Full Size Image

Then we get to the new twist. “They run to a station containing three different table mazes, each one unique in its way to approach getting a ball through it, but playing to different mind and skill sets,” says Kirhoffer. “The first tribe to reach this station has their choice of which of the three they will use, the next tribe to arrive gets their choice of the remaining two, and the last tribe to arrive is stuck with what is left.”

Click for Full Size Image

After that, “They then transport the table to the top of another, even taller tower, where two players work together to get three balls through the maze to the end,” explains the producer.

While watching my daughter get her idea on the show is pretty cool, I couldn’t help but wonder: Does Violet’s new job as a “Survivor Challenge Consultant” prohibit her from being a future contestant? “I don’t think so,” notes Kirhoffer. “I believe it’s her dad’s reviews of the show and challenges that will sway that decision either way.” (Note: Uh-oh.)

But that’s not the only Entertainment Weekly connection to challenges you will see in Heroes v. Healers v Hustlers. Last fall, EW hosted a convention out in Los Angeles called PopFest in which Survivor fans could attend and compete in actual challenges from the show against contestants like Ozzy, Woo, Tai, Peih-Gee, Abi-Maria, Mari, Rob Cesternino, and more. Kirhoffer was there to oversee the festivities. “We were doing the challenges at PopFest,” he explains. “It was super fun. And this kid walks up, ‘Man, I’m a big fan of Survivor.’ And he goes on to explain a challenge. ‘Can I pitch you a challenge?’”

Kirhoffer gave him his card and told the fan to send him an email. “So he did the Photoshop and worked up a nice sketch and had a write-up,” says the producer. “And it was really good. It was a really great idea. So I said ‘Hey, here’s the deal. Send me another one. Send me more pitches, and if you have one more that’s as good as that, maybe there’s a job in it for you.’”

So that’s exactly what Will Arbuckle did. “Sure enough, he sent a couple more that were solid,” says Kirhoffer. “So I hired him as a consultant. He came into the office in January and we started brainstorming. And two of the original puzzle ideas that he had you will see in the first five episodes of Heroes and Healers and Hustlers. So I hired him on the Dream Team and he’s having the time of his life.”

The moral of both of these stories is clear: Pester Survivor challenge producer John Kirhoffer whenever and wherever possible.

Survivor: Jeff Probst promises one of the best finishes ever
‘One of my favorite final Tribals,’ teases the host of the upcoming season

It’s always important to finish strong, and according to Survivor host Jeff Probst, that’s exactly what fans can expect in the upcoming season of Heroes v. Healers v. Hustlers, which premieres Sept. 27 on CBS.

While on location in Fiji for season 36 (which will air in 2018) of the reality giant, we asked the Hostmaster General to give us five reasons to watch season 35, and he delivered some tantalizing teases, including a strong endgame.

“The last third of the season, you cannot predict what is going to happen,” says Probst. “You won’t want to miss it. And you’re going to love the thrill of the drama.” The host also promises that said drama will extend all the way to the final vote in what he is touting as “One of the best finishes. One of my favorite final Tribals — new format, a hearty discussion, and who knows? Minds may be changed in the jury.”

We assume that “new format” comment is referencing the new jury open dialogue that replaced the standard Q&A last season — and which Probst and EP Matt Van Wagenen have already confirmed to us is “here to stay,” but hearing the longtime host refer to it as one of the best finishes and that jury votes may actually change in the moment can’t help but get us excited.

But wait, what are the other reasons to watch Survivor: Heroes v. Healers v. Hustlers? Watch the video to find out what other intel is dispensed, and for more Survivor scoop, follow me on Twitter @DaltonRoss.

Transcript of the Video:

5 Reasons to watch our 35th season of Survivor

#1 The Theme. Heroes vs Healers vs Hustlers. It's very interesting to watch three different pyschological approaches to life play out in this social game.

#2 Dr. Mike

#3 The Challenges. Once again our challenge team has created new fresh challenges that are consistently dramatic and I think you are going to like a lot of the new additions.

#4 The last third of the season, you cannot predict what is going to happen. You won’t want to miss it. And you’re going to love the thrill of the drama.

#5 One of the best finishes. One of my favorite final Tribals — new format, a hearty discussion, and who knows? Minds may be changed in the jury.

Survivor: Jeff Probst reveals the Heroes v. Healers v. Hustlers players to watch

Eighteen new contestants — you can see their bios and individual photos right here — will be vying for the million dollars and title of Sole Survivor when Survivor: Heroes v. Healers v. Hustlers kicks off Sept. 27 on CBS. Well… actually, that’s not entirely true. The “vying” in question already took place last spring when season 35 was filmed. All that’s left is to air what happened and then read the votes live back in Los Angeles this December to make it official.

So when I went on location in Fiji for season 36 — which will air in 2018 — I asked host Jeff Probst whom he was liking (and whom he thought viewers would like) from the Triple H season, which had just finished filming. This offers a pretty unique perspective because usually when Probst tells me the players to watch, it is before the season has started filming, so he’s just going with his gut as to which people may pop on camera.

But since this interview took place after filming, the host has a much better idea of who will be worth keeping an eye on. So whether you’re curious to learn more about some of the folks that will be competing on Heroes v. Healers v. Hustlers or just want some inside intel for your next Survivor fantasy pool, check out the video above for Jeff Probst’s official list of players to watch. And for more Survivor scoop, follow me on Twitter @DaltonRoss.

Survivor: Jeff Probst reveals the change that scared him the most
‘It took me a couple of years to get the guts because it’s a massive format change,’ says the host

It was a huge change to the most important moment of the season and could have gone horribly wrong. But when Survivor debuted a new open Q&A final Tribal Council format instead of each juror making a question or comment and then retreating back to silence, both players and fans responded overwhelmingly positively to the format switch.

While in Fiji, we spoke to host Jeff Probst about the big change — which will also be seen in Survivor: Heroes v. Healers v. Hustlers (premiering Sept. 27 on CBS) — and he revealed that the impetus for the move came from the frustration he felt during final Tribal Councils. “As the guy that’s used to controlling a Tribal,” says Probst, “and knowing that I’m an interviewer so that I can ask questions — turning that over to people to ask one question, I would sit there at Tribal and go, ‘We’re killing our season right now. We’re killing it. It’s not their fault. This is not why they’re here.’”

What’s even more interesting is that Probst admits it took him quite a long time to actually pull the trigger on making the change — years, in fact. “It took me a couple of years to get the guts because it’s a massive format change. Didn’t pull the trigger until season 33. I’d had enough. And making that decision, for me anyway, was the most I’ve fretted over something in quite a while.”

Watch the video above as Probst talks about how the new format reminds him of an Olympic sport and the precise moment when he realized it was working. Also, make sure to peruse our “35 Reasons to Love Survivor” gallery, and for way too much Survivor scoop, follow me on Twitter @DaltonRoss.

Survivor: Jeff Probst on if there are too many idols and advantages
The host calls Cirie’s controversial exit ‘the most alive I’ve ever been at Tribal’

There is no doubt that hidden immunity idols and secret advantages have led to some of the most dramatic moments ever on Survivor. Make a list of the most exciting Tribal Councils and most will include some form of an idol (or multiple idols) being played. But have we hit maximum capacity on the number of idols and secret advantages being introduced?

That was a question worth asking during last season’s Game Changers . Instead of just one secret advantage, the show stuffed in three different ones. Then, at the final six, you had the unthinkable happen when five out of six people had immunity due to Brad’s immunity win, Sarah’s Legacy immunity, Troyzan’s hidden immunity idol, Tai’s first immunity idol (which he used on himself), and Tai’s second immunity idol (which he gave to Aubry).

That means Cirie was “voted out” even though she did not have a single vote cast against her, simply because she was the only one who did not have some form of immunity. We asked host Jeff Probst while on location in Fiji (for Heroes v. Healers v. Hustlers, which debuts Sept. 27 on CBS, and season 36, which airs 2018) if this had caused them to reexamine how many idols and advantages to put into the game moving forward.

“We have a board,” Probst explains, “and it’s just basically a layout of the entire season. We can account for certain things — when we are going to put an advantage in the game… What we can’t account for is when an idol can be played.”

In the video above, Probst explains how what happened to Cirie was actually a dream come true for producers. “My one big hope was, there will be a night where there is absolute chaos,” says the host, who also reveals that when it all went down, it was “probably the most alive I’ve ever been at Tribal” because Probst was, like viewers, doing the math on the spot to figure out what it all meant as everyone started using their immunities.

Not only does Probst say that watching someone go out in such fashion will not result in limiting idols or advantages in the future, but he looks at the unique Cirie ouster as the defining moment of last season. “I thought that was fantastic,” says the host. “That was the poster. If you’re building a poster for the movie Survivor: Game Changers, you want Reservoir Dogs. You want all guns pointed in the last episode. That was the Survivor gods looking down at us saying, ‘We’re going to reward you with another gift.’”

What do you think? Did you love or loathe that many immunities being used at once? And should there be limits on idols and advantages in the future? To see Probst’s complete thoughts on the controversial Cirie exit and why it does not change anything moving forward, watch the video above. First aired 9/25/17, during Kevin Can Wait on CBS.

Transcript

Narrator: There are Heroes,

Ashley (Lifeguard): I live, eat, breathe the ocean. I'm pretty much made for Survivor.

(Underwater scene of Ashley wearing goggles diving down to untie something)

Narrator: Healers,

Joe (Probation Officer): My job is rehabilitations but on Survivor you can't believe anybody.

(Beach scene with all 6 Healers)

Narrator: and Hustlers

Ali (Personal Assistant): In everything I do I give a 100%. I have to win.

(Challenge scene on the beach with Ali rotating a sign pole with pointing country names signs that she needs to align with arrows on another pole. In the background see Hustlers Devon, Patrick, Ryan, and Simone standing next to Jeff. Lauren is NOT seen.)

(One second later it appears that Jeff raises his hand and then Simone is raising her hand in Victory (or came in second), the guys appears to be cheering and Jeff begins to walk away)

Narrator: but who has what it takes to become the ultimate survivor?

Note: The two challenge scenes of Ashley underwater and Ali on the Beach are NOT the Episode 1 Immunity Challenge. These are both future challenges (could be the same challenge) most likely from Episode 2. Perhaps the Beach scene with Joe and all the other Healers is also Episode 2. If so then it looks like Hustler Lauren is likely the Episode 1 boot.

I agree, these are future challenge shots and THEREFORE, someone has to sit out. This does not definitively prove that red lost the first IC, the one not shown, Lauren?, could be sitting out.

Look closely at this picture:

Ali is seen doing the last puzzle with Patrick of First IC, that is SAWDUST in her hair.....compare to this picture:

https://ewedit.files.wordpress.com/2017/09/110130_03115b7.jpg?w=2700

Look closely, see the saw dust that the cart went through. This proves to me that red does NOT lose the first IC. So either Blue or Yellow goes to TC....

You can copy the pics to your desktop with "Save Image as..." but you don't need to do that to include in your post. Right click and select "Copy Image Location" (that's what Firefox browser says, yours might be different) and then paste the URL into your post.

FlowerPower: Ah! Red wins first IC and sits out Lauren! Thanks! That explains everything.

On the Press Images photos the Full Size image links are all broken now. It appears that InsideSurvivor changed the URLs so I need to update them all.

To include the thumbnail image that comes from CBS Press Express. Just hover over the image and right click and choose "Copy Image Location"

And then the URL should be
"http://www.cbspressexpress.com/images/photos/thumbnail/2017/09/13/110128_06083bb.JPG";

And it should look like this
