"Intro - Talk Dirty"

Can't stand this song. Skipped it.

New band. New singers. New female host.

"Nene & Tony - Cha cha"

Didn't recognize the song. I thought she did really well for night 1. Tony was dressed like a teen, though.

Compared to some of the other Cha Chas, I thought this was underscored.

In retrospect, I agree. The first dance is hard because there's nothing to compare it to. I thought 21 was reasonable until I saw the other scores.

"James & Peeta - Foxtrot"
Posted by udg on 03-18-14 at 00:12 AM
Even skipping the filler, I could tell there was a lot of flirting going on.

Song is Story of My Life (Gone, Gone, Gone).

Nothing special. Not bad.

7+7+7=21

Host is quizzing them about their relationship.

"Danica & Val - Foxtrot"
Posted by udg on 03-18-14 at 00:18 AM
Remember how I said I didn't recognize her name? Well, the math books thing did ring a bell! I've heard her do interviews about those. LOL (Yes, I'm a dweeb.)

Song is Walkaway?

I thought it was better than the previous Foxtrot.

Agree. this was pretty good.

"Sean & Karina - Contemporary"
Posted by udg on 03-18-14 at 00:22 AM
(Really? Contemporary?)

I recognize the song, but I can't come up with a title. Sorry.

Impression, contemporary is too weird for someone with poor technique. It can look awkward at its best, but when you're not very good at it, it just looks unintentionally awkward. The leaps were really bad. The camera seemed to focus on Karina, which was all they could do to minimize the trainwreckness of it.

7+6+7=20

Overscored, IMO.

Overscored, IMO too.

"Billy Dee Williams & Emma - Cha cha"
Posted by udg on 03-18-14 at 00:27 AM
Squeeing over Lando. I watched his filler. He's 77, and it shows.

Robots & Storm Troopers and Jazzy Star Wars medley to go with Emma's Slave Leia costume. And Ewoks in the audience!

That one will get redanced in the finale, but I don't see Lando lasting long.

5+5+5=15

That was painful. I felt bad for him.

I didn't realize he was 77.

I love Lando, but booting him first would be OK with me.

"Meryl & Maks - Cha cha"
Posted by udg on 03-18-14 at 00:33 AM
Watched some of their filler, too. "How are your spins?" ROFLMBO (Hint: they're not bad.)

Maks steals her from her "real" partner. LOL

Don't recognize this song, either. We Can Do This All Night?

Hmmm. It's almost like she has some dance experience.

Len: You're nice on ice, but you're good on wood.

8+8+8=24

Underscored, but considering her experience & fanbase, I'm not angry.

"Candice & Mark - Contemporary"
Posted by udg on 03-18-14 at 00:38 AM
(Contemporary again? *sigh*)

Song: Burn (Ellie Gould) - The band's take on that was a little weird.

Well, she handled contemp better than the hockey guy. I suspect Mark's more familiar with the choreography than Karina, which helped, but I think Candice is also more musical than the hockey guy. The judges still liked it better than I did.

9+8+8=25

WAY overscored!!!

I thought this was pretty much of a snooze.

"Cody & Whitney - Cha cha"
Posted by udg on 03-18-14 at 00:42 AM
Song: Timber

OK, I hated both of them during the filler, but that wasn't half bad. Skipping the judges comments & chatter, so I don't have to listen to either of them again tonight.

7+7+8=22

"Drew & Cheryl - Foxtrot"
Posted by udg on 03-18-14 at 00:48 AM
Watching their filler, too. <3

Monopoly board on the dance floor & Drew in a tophat.

He's doing pretty well. Better than I expected from the filler.

7+7+7=21

"Amy & Derek - Cha cha"
Posted by udg on 03-18-14 at 00:53 AM
Aww. This is the biggest challenge that DEREK has ever faced on the show. *eyeroll*

Song: Counting Stars

She killed it. And she's jetlagged, competing on 4 hours sleep.

8+8+8=24

Underscored, IMO.

I think we're batting 1000 in agreement about scoring. This was better than three 8s.

"Diana & Henry - Foxtrot"

LAST EDITED ON 03-18-14 AT 00:58 AM (EST)

Fish-out-of-water pun, check.

Song: Somewhere Beyond the Sea

She's very fit, but not very musical. It will be interesting to see if she can improve before she gets kicked off.

6+6+6=18

"It's not about how you start. It's how you finish... Meryl has asked me to help her with her turns."

"Diana has a dry wit, and the judges are all wet."

"Charlie & Charna - Contemporary"
Posted by udg on 03-18-14 at 01:09 AM
(I think they're trying to break me with all this contemporary $#*%!)

(Also, I HATE this song. It's like a toddler throwing a fit when mom tries to get rid a toy he never played with.)

Song: Let Her Go

Hmm, the ice dancer can handle lifts like a pro. Imagine that. Least bad contemp of the night.

9+9+9=27

"Surprise!"
