"Post-game interviews and press"

Now that the jury has started, thought it would be good to look at the post-game interviews more closely, and this is the thread where we can do that.

I really enjoyed Neal's post-game interviews. Here are a few nuggets:

- They lanced his infection and gave him antibiotics for several days, but it wasn't improving and he said he knew he was probably going to be pulled. (I've seen some people complaining on social media that it was unfair and that production should have given him antibiotics first before pulling him, but they did.)
- He regrets not giving the HII to Aubrey but actually gave her his jacket and some other stuff. (I will add this snippet later.)
- The bulge in his pocket was actually just some twigs and stuff, not the idol. Nick asked him to see what was in his pocket and he showed him it wasn't the idol.
- He saw Jason and Nick as the two biggest threats in the game. He also says that Tai has a dark side and is much more calculating than we see on TV, which is interesting.
- The chicken was named Mark, after Tai's significant other.
- He suspected that Jason had the idol and he also found the Beauty box (empty) for the idol. Nick told him that Caleb had the Beauty idol and took it home with him, which Neal didn't believe.
- He says he was pulled from the game on April 17 -- almost one year ago -- but he still thinks about it every day. Sad. Really hope they bring him back.

A few tidbits from the Parade interview that are of note:

1. Neal says that just about everyone had something for the doctor to examine that day. So I'm thinking that we need to re-look at who was / wasn't spotlighted in that segment to get some insight on our 3rd medavac, because most likely it would be foreshadowed (I would think). As I recall, Joe was NOT shown to be checked out by the doc, so that makes me wonder if that's good or bad for his chances to be the final medavac.

2. Here's an interesting snippet of what Neal gave Aubry before leaving, but it wasn't shown. So he's saying the others didn't know for sure if Aubry did or didn't have the idol.
"But also, they didn’t show that as we were saying goodbyes… they edited my quote to the team. I stared them all down and said, “You guys are lucky… because I was going to beat every single one of you.” And they knew it! But then Aubry and I walked around just a tiny bit, and I gave her my jacket. I put some things in the pocket of the jacket, that I pulled out of some other pockets in my pants. So didn’t know whether or not I gave Aubry the idol. There’s also the thought that sometimes the threat of an idol is even more powerful than the idol itself. Idols get played, but if you don’t know if somebody has it or not, that threat can go on for some time."

SquidProQuo THANKS so much for consolidating Neal's exit interiew facts!

Each week CBS publishes quite a few POST Episode Press Images which sometimes has some good info.
Unfortunately neither SurvivorFever nor InsideSurvivor publishes the full size POST Episode Press Images

This week's POST Episode Press Images reveal that Joe was scene by Medical between Aubry and Scot.

It also shows when Neal gave his jacket to Aubry which was right before Neal and Jeff wade out to the boat.
Neal said goodbye to Aubry twice. Once in the front of the line and then again at the end.
Also they were examining Neal from before 2:21pm through 2:40pm so roughly 20-25 minutes.

The *PRE* Episode PR Images are the first 4 images in the timeline and the last *PRE* Episode PR Image (closeup of Jeff) is during Neal's examination.

Wow, very interesting. I didn't realize they do pre and post photos. Thanks for posting.

So everyone could clearly see Neal and Aubry going off alone and him giving her the jacket. I could see this going either way for Aubry -- it could help her, as Neal has suggested in his post-game interview, with the suggested power of having an idol, or it could also put a target on her back. Then again, Brawn and Beauty may have bigger fish to fry this week.

It's interesting from an edit perspective that they did not show Joe getting checked but they did show Scott. Joe would have been my top contender for the 3rd medivac, and you'd think they might foreshadow that…..but now I'm wondering if it could be Scott or even Aubry instead. Need to rematch that part. (Then again, maybe it just means that Joe is a total non-factor in the game. He certainly wasn't on the radar at all this merge episode.)

"RE: S32E07 Post Show Press Images"

Yeah CBS always publishes "POST" Episode Press Images (that would be spoilers if posted before the Episode) very shortly after the Episode airs on the West Coast. I assume these are for Media outlets to use for their recap stories.

Judging by the time stamps the Medic spent about 3 minutes with each player so it doesn't look like there is time for him to have looked at anyone else.

Players examined:
Tai (16 days Gondol)
Aubry (11.5 days Chan Loh, 4.5 days Gondol)
Joe (11.5 days Chan Loh, 4.5 days Gondol)
Scot (11.5 days To Tang, 4.5 days Gondol)
Neal (16 days Chan Loh)

Cydney, Michele, Nick spent 4.5 days on Chan Loh with apparently no Infections

Debbie spent *16* days on Chan Loh with apparently no Infections. She must have a great immune system or maybe one of her many jobs prepared her well to avoid infections.

From the time stamps it appears Neal and Aubry spent about 2 minutes together exchanging his coat. I was curious as to where this occurred:

It looks like this exchange happened just behind where they were all seated.

Maybe Neal's coat was hanging near the shelter in the back and he walked back there to retrieve it and Aubry followed him and that's when he gave the coat to Aubry but didn't give the idol hence Aubry's later confessional where she calls Neal a Son of a B*tch for not giving her the idol.

So didn’t know whether or not I gave Aubry the idol. There’s also the thought that sometimes the threat of an idol is even more powerful than the idol itself. Idols get played, but if you don’t know if somebody has it or not, that threat can go on for some time."

Wow, he has quite an ego.....sounds like this is spoilerish. He's giving himself credit for Aubry getting further because they will all think she has the idol, even though she doesn't....? Hmmmm?

It could force Brawn to split the votes if they are going after Brains, just what a team needs to flip the script. They could also decide to go after Debbie or Joe instead of Aubry.

"Nick"
Posted by SquidProQuo on 04-07-16 at 05:37 PM
On why Tai voted for Jason -- this is hilarious if this is true, that basically there was concern that Joe was already locked in on Nick and he might get mixed up if they changed the target. So instead Tai didn't hear and got mixed up. (First Joe snores through strategy talks, he doesn't have his hearing aid, his alliance partners worry that he'll forget the target, ha.)

Nick also says that a) Michele told him he was a target and b) the guys were not as tight as they seemed. He says that Scott and Jason planned to vote him out at 8, and he planned to blindside them at 9, which could imply that they talked about this at Losers Lodge.

“So this is where Tai melted down, and hopefully he bounces back at the next vote. The thing was, Julia and Michele, they wanted to vote out Jason. So they go to the Brains and they go to Cydney and say ‘Let’s vote out Jason instead of Nick.” And sure enough, they’re open to it. Aubry’s okay with voting out Jason, and Debbie says, ‘No, we can’t vote out Jason because Joe is already locked in on Nick. Joe won’t remember who to vote for so we cant do that now.’ So Tai was in on that talk, thinking they were going to vote for Jason and he just didn’t hear that ‘No, we’re sticking with Nick.’ So he thought the group was voting for Jason, yet it was me in the end.”

So the saga of Tai's stray vote on Jason continues. See below for a string of twitter posts between David Bloomberg (RHAP podcaster who does the "Why __ got voted out" series) and Tai. Dave is a pretty astute guy so I like to follow what he has to say on the season.

Love Tai's line that Nick's reality is not his reality, ha! As we suspected, sounds like Tai had another plan that we were not shown. Now it will be interesting to see if we were not shown because it's a secret alliance -- or was it not shown because it isn't relevant and doesn't come to fruition. Hoping it's the former!

(Note I edited out some of the non-relevant posts and info to make this more succinct)

@DavidBloomberg
Was the Jason vote supposed to be a throwaway or were you expecting Brains to vote that way & you went along to get him out??

@SurvivorQuotesX
wondering the same thing, was it revenge for making him feel stupid about revealing the powers of the superidol?

@DavidBloomberg
I can't imagine that's the case. I feel like it's more likely someone (Debbie? Michele?) led him astray. (SQUID COMMENT - THIS WAS MY 1st REACTION TOO, THAT SOMEONE TOLD TAI TO VOTE THAT WAY)

"Debbie"
Posted by SquidProQuo on 04-14-16 at 10:36 PM
Debbie definitely lived up to her colorful character in her post-game interviews and spilled a few good tidbits:

Re her "blindside"
- She says Joe tipped her off that she was the target + Aubry wasn't giving her straight answers on who to vote for, so she knew
- She respects that Aubry and Cydney "took the safe way" vs. risking the split vote
- She says Aubry had a target painted on her back because people thought Neal gave her the idol, and therefore she was paranoid and thinking the guys would gun for her (vs. Cydney). Even though she disagrees with Aubry's move and thinks Julia would not have flipped, she "applauds" Aubry for doing what she needed to do to stay in the game.

Re the Super Idol:
- Neal told them about the Super Idol before he went out, so the Brains were aware
- She think it's a "stunt" and "crap," and she hopes they never do it again (me too!)

Re who she would have taken to the F2:
- Aubry and Tai
- She says Tai was constantly flipping and no one would have voted for him

Re the sabotage:
- She says she retaliated by stealing the guys' shorts and that's why Scott was wearing Nick's dirty shorts at TC (didn't notice that)

Re the big patch / infection on her back:
- She answered "no comment" when asked about it, which leads me to believe there's something more to it

Re her edit:
- She thinks CBS didn't need to give her the "kooky old woman" edit (I agree!)
- She's glad to show that older women can be physical, strategic, etc.

Re those left in the game:
- She says she wants to take the high road and has decent things to say about everyone, but she calls Jason "reprehensible," which leads me to believe we haven't seen the worst of him yet and/or he makes it far
- She has great things to say about Julia, especially given her age (similar to the wonderful things Jeff says in this week's EW interview)
- She admires Cydney's discipline and dedication to her physique
- She "adores" Aubry but says her paranoia was like Woody Allen
- She has little to say about Michele, other than she's a distant relative of F. Scott Fitzgerald

Here's a link to Debbie's Parade interivew, but some of the highlights above were from her Examiner and Xfinity interviews:

This week we interviewed Debbie Wanner. She left the game in episode 9 of Survivor Kaoh Rong. Debbie set new records for having had the most past occupations and the ability to spot microscopic pathogens in water with the naked eye. Her quirkiness masked a pragmatic understanding of the game that allowed her to remove much younger threats early on. Unfortunately, her sometimes brash approach to the game and stubborn refusal to work with her alliance resulted in another stunning blindside.

Listen to this interview to hear about the other ways the guys sabotaged the camp, how Debbie got revenge, why Mike Mark the Chicken is still alive, and lots more!

Fear the Walking Dead showrunner Dave Erickson breaks down the season 2 premiere. (starts at 56:00) 4. Eliminated Survivor Debbie Wanner on where it all went wrong.

Listening to Debbie she often pauses when she thinks what she wants to say would not be allowed by CBS. Most notably she doesn't want to elaborate on the infection on her shoulder.

Also, in the EW interview she says:
(68:56) "However, If Jason would've made it to the end I'd have given him a million dollars. If Jason makes it to the end."

So, Jason is not making it to the end!

"RE: Debbie"
Posted by SquidProQuo on 04-17-16 at 04:02 PM
We can only hope!

But it sure seems like Jason is the guy who has the most care with his edit and has ongoing personal content about his daughters, etc. It just always felt like he was an end-gamer, but maybe his potential goat status is "tarnished" by his reveal of his autistic daughter. Perhaps no one will want to risk sitting next to him after that. He should have taken a page out of Jeremy's book and waited to the end to mention it.

Who knows. Debbie said a lot of things that we know can't be true so maybe she was trying to cast doubt that Jason makes it to the end. I think Debbie would enjoy fooling the super fans who listen to every word of every exit interview.

...but I had a feeling Debbie slipped up in more than one interview when she said things like:

Thanks Sheldor! A few tidbits:

- He returned the idol to Jason after the show (bad karma / didn't want to keep it)
- He and his wife have received death threats
- Says he'd play again and would be the first athlete invited back
- Says he wishes he could have convinced Jason to stick with Jenny over Cydney and thinks the game would have gone much differently for them

This part is also very interesting:

SK: After watching the episode, what's your take on Tai today?

SP: I really like Tai. We've met up a couple times post-show. We've had dinner together. I've met his boyfriend. He's a great guy. My critique of it is strategic. When I got blindsided, after I recovered the next day, I was sitting there thinking: What did he gain strategically by getting rid of me? I couldn't think of anything. I was hoping to watch the episode and see where he goes, "This is best for my game. I'm gonna get Scot out of the way." I didn't see that. What I saw was Aubry short-term brainwashing him into an emotional decision that helped her and her group.

Well, Tai clearly doesn't make it to the end.

"RE: Scot Exit Interviews"

"He returned the idol to Jason after the show "

Scot says this in most of his interviews.

If Jason got voted out wouldn't Scot have given the idol to Jason at Ponderosa?

On the other hand if Jason was a Finalist there still is 1 day at Ponderosa before they fly back home for Scot to give Jason back his idol.

So maybe Scot wanted to show his wife and kids the idol before returning it to Jason.

Agree that "after the show" could mean just about anything - whether it's one day after Jason got booted or several months after the season ended and the guys got together for a couple of beers.

I'm more interested in what he said about Tai and whether that means Tai doesn't make it to the end.

"Julia"
Posted by SquidProQuo on 04-28-16 at 01:20 PM
From her EW interview:

On why she aligned even closer with Jason after the last vote, while Michele tried to get back in the good graces of the majority alliance:

“I went immediately to Jason jut because I wanted to be able to switch things up at this point. I knew Aubry would never work with me. Aubry and I out there were really, really tense, and it started the episode where she crossed my name out, and from then on we had a really hostile relationship. So I knew that I’d never be able to work with Aubry, and I knew since I would never be able to wok with Aubry that I would never be able to work with Joe. So I really had to look at my options and see what was out there. And at the time, Tai was a huge threat. I personally think it would have been a better move for everybody involved to get rid of Tai, get rid of his advantage, get rid of that idol. But Cydney and Michele thought otherwise.”

Survivor Kaôh Rōng: Julia Sokolowski on Playing a Game of Chicken

And it was palpable? We know how Aubry mistrusted you based on her confessionals; you could feel it while you were out there?

Absolutely. Absolutely. I definitely felt the same way toward her, too. But the thing is now, I look at Aubry’s game, as I’ve watched the show air, and I think it’s phenomenal. I think she’s so strategic and so amazing. Aubry was able to acknowledge my game. She’s been able to acknowledge my strategy, and she considered me a huge threat. That’s where my youth shines through: I’m not able to say that about her out there. I just have bitterness for her out there. But I have a lot of respect for Aubry.

Sounds like Julia was bitter and did not vote for Aubry because she didn't realize how good a game Aubry played until she watched the show on TV. Now she raves about Aubry (trying to makeup for not voting for Aubry?)

Wonder if Aubry wins with all the votes except Julia? Sounds like she's trying to cover her butt. Just convinces me more that Aubry's going to win.

Well turns out Julia did indeed vote for Michele and in her Exit Interviews seems to imply knowing what she knows of Aubry's game after watching the season she would now vote for Aubry.

And if Jury nullification twist didn't remove Neal with Julia's vote it could have been 4 (Nick,Joe,Neal,Julia) for Aubry and 4 (Jason,Scot,Cydney,Debbie) for Michele and we could have had our first Final Tie vote.

Debbie in her Ponderosa and Jury Speaks video seems only luke warm on Aubry but in her Exit interviews she seems really positive about Aubry. Seems like she also might regret her vote today.

Debbie and Cydney knew how much effort Aubry put in the game so not voting for her makes them both look petty. Cydney played side-by-side with Aubry so if she thinks Aubry didn't deserve the win then she's admitting that she didn't deserve it either. It's pretty ridiculous to be upset that Aubry voted her out at F4 when she tried to do the same.

In fact, it seemed that they were so upset that Aubry outwitted them, they decided that ouwitting wouldn't be their voting criteria. It became a challenge contest. Stupid people.

Totally agree michel.

Hearing Red Carpet interviews, Exit Interviews, and RHAP Why Michele won:
http://robhasawebsite.com/survivor-2016-why-michele-won-kaoh-rong-with-david-bloomberg-finale/

Seems like most of the Michele votes came from Jurors who did not realize what Aubry was doing and did not respect her game or that she lasted longer than they did.

Michele not voting out Scot and winning 4 Individual Challenges (2 Immunity) seemed to be enough to get Julia, Jason, and Scot to vote for Michele.

Cyndey seemed to want to hear Aubry say that it was always her plan to vote out Cydney at Final 4 not that she was forced to do that when Michele won Immunity. Yet I believe both Cyndey and Aubry had planned to vote out Michele at Final 4.
