Suzie sings REM's "Losing My Religion" one of my all time favorites. She sounds monotone to me.

JD helped her with the arrangement. The band liked it.

I really liked Suzie's performance. I usually have nothing to say about her, she's blah to me. But I thought she was good tonight.

Maybe I just don't like someone messing with one of my all time favorites.

I'm with Dave "Call Me Paula" Navarro--I was worried when she said she wanted to rearrange that song, which is a beautiful song. She did a good job with it--she didn't make an extreme change, like giving it a reggae beat or something. I liked her hair, too! I think this and her sing for salvation performance of "Never Tear Us Apart" are her best.

MIG sings "All Right Now" by Free. He does well with just about any song in my opinion.

"RE: 8-9-05 Show discussion"
Posted by seahorse on 08-09-05 at 10:00 PM
INXS loves him, but they want him to fight for his song to sing and not to just settle for a song.

"RE: 8-9-05 Show discussion"
Posted by Loree on 08-09-05 at 10:07 PM
I agree with them that I would like to see MiG do a different type of song for a change. We already know he can do this kind.

JD does a Seal song that I am not familiar with. The band thought he was pretty good.

Jessica was not passionate according to the band. She might be in trouble this week.

"RE: 8-9-05 Show discussion"

I seem to disagree with INXS and Dave a lot on their opinions of performances. I thought Jessica was good. She wasn't trying to sing like Kurt, she was singing like Jessica. I liked that. *shrug*

She nice, the Syren.
I do agree that she looked awesome though!

It looked like Dave Navarro was trying to put his fingers in his ears at one point, thought better of it and just grimaced during Jessica's performance.

Holy hamstrings, Batman!

She might not have much personality (not sure I would know anyway) but she has a fantastic body. A *real* body. I was amazed at how muscular her legs were. Not scrawny model chicken legs. Nice.

Sort of a cross between the beading of a flapper and the cut/style of a gladiator! It looked like there were black hot pants underneath.

Jordis does Layla by Derek & the Dominoes - upbeat version of the song.

This is the first time I didn't like a Jordis performance.

And I noticed the evil eye from Jessica when INXS assured Jordis it would be a long time till they heard her sing an INXS song.

"RE: 8-9-05 Show discussion"

Do you blame her? Jordis does a so so perfomance tonight, and the band tells her its OK.

I'd have been upset as well.

Derek and the Dominos? Really? I know this as an Eric Clapton song.

I LOVE Jordis, but this was her worst performance yet, IMO. However, even her worst performance is still better than most.

I agree.

Hey, did anyone else think she was constricted by her outfit? She's used to singing in loose t-shirts and sweats, which allows her to really fill her lungs. She seemed not able to do that in her corset, and near the end she sort of gave up on hitting a high note.

>>constricted by her outfit?<<

Shouldn't be -- if you're breathing is good, you should be able to do it in anything.

(Besides, that's not a 'real' corset -- too stretchy. Try singing opera while REALLY laced into muslin & steel -- no hooks, no elastic.)

Generally, her technique is pretty good, so I think she was just a little skittish using that part of her voice -- she's got it, she just doesn't often call on it. Just sounded like nerves to me.

I think she's an awesome singer...but I still want to see her 'perform' more. Vocally, she's worlds beyond the other women...but she still kinda bores me. Sorry, I know that's not a popular opinion.

Brandon does the Stone's song It's All Over Now. The band says he is not versatile enough and needs to mix it up more.

And we'll probably "get to" hear him sing on Wednesday!

Actually, I thought Brandon's performance was ok, the song choice sort of worked for him, and his stage presence was good. His singing...I kept thinking of Joe Cocker...but if Joe had a cold or something that limited his range to 5 or 6 notes.

Ditto for me. Since day one, there is something about Marty that just doesn't do it for me. I have to admit he seems to get better every week, but there's something about him that I can't put my finger on and I just don't like.

"RE: 8-9-05 Show discussion"

I'm going to rant here.

I LOVE, LOVE The Killers. I HATE Marty. Once again, he is singing with his British accent, trying to impersonate the original band. He messed up a line, and I just hated everything about his performance. Ugh.

She nice, the Syren.

"RE: 8-9-05 Show discussion"

Maybe that is what bugs me about Marty. He tries to impersonate. I haven't been able to figure out why I don't like him. I know INXS likes him. But I find him Blah...

"RE: 8-9-05 Show discussion"
Posted by cheesybread on 08-10-05 at 08:10 AM
It's funny that you mention the accent thing. I have noticed that a couple of times, too. But I wasn't sure what to think. Is he just trying to *stylize* the words and they come out sounding like a bad british accent? It seems random and really sticks out in the song.

"RE: 8-9-05 Show discussion"
Posted by tamarama on 08-10-05 at 04:37 PM
>>come out sounding like a bad british accent?<<

FWIW, he's not the only one who does that.

I'd be hard-pressed to name specific songs, but I KNOW i've heard JD, Tara, & Suzie (at least) do that.

I'm so surprised! What about Neal?

I liked Marty's performance tonight, too. He sang well, and I didn't realize he was that good on guitar. (I'm glad he's been wearing eyeliner--it helps him not look so washed out. I think part of people's problem with him, is that he's so pale and has that thin, blond, stringy hair.) I've heard of The Killers, but I'm not familiar with their music, so I have no comparisons to make in that area.

Jordis Unga The Bungler!

This woman is a pathetic excuse for a performer. She misses entire lines of songs, she drops the rythm 3 or 4 times in a song, she mumbles at the beginning of almost every song. WTF!
The band keeps cutting her slack: Is she on her knees??? I don't understand.

As for Brandon: He nailed The Stones

It is a shame that most of the babies in the audience didn't recognize it. That song was first performed by Mick and the boys before the members of INXS were even born. They should not post songs, then complain that it does not match their style of music!

Brandon may not be suited for INXS but he sure knows how to rock and roll! Kudos Brandon!!

P.S. Jordis is ugly too! I don't get it!!

Jordis Unga The Bungler!
Although one would have to wade carefully into the deep end to disagree with a rhymer... I will take that chance.

Jordis has a hell of a lot more talent that Brandon. IMVHO. Tonight's performance was weak, but overall, she is excellent.

Brandon on the other hand, nailed that Stones song, as one would nail jello to a tree. It was a massacre; as have been all of his performances.

Ugh.... Our opinions are so on opposite ends of the spectrum.

Jordis won't win, though she certainly deserves to.

Forever believing that it's all about the spandex - and about the sigpic goddess Syren... thanks!

"RE: 8-9-05 Show discussion"
Posted by Iam_Xtreme on 08-10-05 at 02:41 PM
Jordis and Brandon have that in common, she nails songs with feelings and he nails rock and roll.

If Brandon lacked talent then the experts at the vocal clinic would not have said that he has the most talent vocally in the entire group of performers.

Bottom line is that it all comes down to each person's individual tastes in music.

Have you ever attended a live Stones performance? If you have then I fail to understand how you could say that Brandon did not nail his performance.

I could see myself listening to Jordis sing one song (last week her performance almost made me cry - it was awesome)and Brandon perform for an entire night. I could also see myself spending money to see Marty and Mig perform. Maybe JD, but his ego completely turns me off so I probably would not spend the money.

I do not even like TY as I think he screams and does not sing, however, I would be remise if I did not acknowledge that his performance last night was the best one of all. It was nice to see him actually sing a song and not scream. I can now see that he does indeed have talent. Though I would not pay to see him sing he deserves praise for a job well done last night.

Obviously, INXS thought that every participant in this show had talent or they would not be there in the first place.

It is my hope that something good comes out of their experiences on this show for each and everyone of them.

Who will win? I do not see any of the female performers winning in the end. I think that the last 3 standing will be Marty, Mig and JD. I do not see JD fitting in with the band in the long-run because his ego is too big and the band is not looking for someone who will be competing for attention.

Having said that I have no clue whether it will be Marty or Mig but both of them would fit well with INXS.

Opinions are not about who is right or who is wrong because there is no right and wrong in them. In this case we are simply gonna have to agree to disagree.

P.S. I should not have said anything about the way Jordis looks as her looks have nothing to do with her talent...so...my bad.

Well, let's see. First saw them in 1972. Again in '75. Twice in '78. Once more in, I think, '84. Again in either '88 or '89. At least once in the 90s. And I have tickets for their concert here this fall.

I've seen Mick Jagger. And, believe me, Brandon is no Mick Jagger.

As I recall it, what the vocal coach said, and it was just one guy, was that Brandon has the biggest voice POTENTIAL, if he worked hard to bring it out.

Jordis just the other day turned 23???

That means she's young enough to be the daughter of the original band members? There's something very weird and very wrong with that.

How can this possibly be the band for her? She's not really a serious contender - this show is just showcasing her talent. There's got to be a better fit for her in the music world than this - just because of age alone.

I would have to disagree about Jordis' looks.

I think she is incredibly beautiful. She does not use sex to sell a song, only her voice which I find very emotional and pure.

Her looks are unique and are not like every other run of the mill blonde hair boob flappin chick. I love Jordis' hair and her eyes.

To me Jordis sings with so much more soul than any of the others. I don't think she is right for INXS but she has a great career ahead of her.

Look at me I got a Sweet Summer Syren Siggie!

>>blonde hair boob flappin chick<<

BWAH!!! LMAO!!

Deanna -- boob flappin! (I was yelling at her last night to go buy a decent bra.)

but all the blonds have been just rotating their hairstyles. oy.

Last night Suzie had on the 'Jessica', Jessica wore the 'Deanna', and Deanna...didn't wear a supportive bra. (if you're over 30, and you're gonna be jumping around stage, buy an underwire)

I confess, I typically don't care for white-chick dreds...but at least Jordis isn't sharing the same Eva Gabor wigs with the rest of the girls.
