Alot of talk around how "Ant" is EASILY the lamest comic to audition (behind buck star ? ......well its a TIE) but its definately clear HOW he made it, and no I dont mean doing "THAT" :

The Reporter also notes that at least two clear conflicts of interest appear exist in the casting process, as Barry Katz, a Last Comic Standing executive producer, is also the manager of two of the performers who made the Final 10 -- the one-name comic Ant and Gary Gulman. Katz also serves as manager for series host Jay Mohr.

And about the "talent scouts" :
"The casting decisions were made by NBC and NBC Studios in consultation with talent scouts and we appreciate their valuable input"
I.E. They are just there to attract people and have NOTHING to do with who is selected.

Some shows are so crooked that you can't help notice. This happens to be one of them.

I totally agree with you on this one. How blatent do they have to make things??? I thought that two of the five comics chosen were NOT funny at all!!! I also think Drew Carey and Brett Butler probably know more about what's funny in one set than all of their "talent scouts" put together. How dare they use Drew and Brett like that!! I agree that we should forget to watch LCS2 for the remainder of its run.

I thought that the producers not telling the REAL judges that 4 more people had a say in this was a crock!!!I too am sooo over this show. Some of the people I liked didn't get picked either. I really dont get how that Kathy Mannigan got through. I know I've seen her on tv for awhile. It is totally fixed. And this show has just totally tanked. I seriosly doubt they will do this again next year.

I was also very disappointed with the outcome of the voting process. But lets remember, this is TV, not real life. No matter how they try to make us believe that it is. The were completely exposed last night. This is all good because it lets some of the gullible people see that everything is not as it appears or advertised.

I also don't like the fact that all these well seasoned comics are able to participate. I want to see some fresh faces go at it.

My family and I just watched the recent Last comic standing. We really enjoyed the funny ones. But what happened. We agree with Drew, Brett and the other celebrity comics that the comics were pre picked. It is now obvious to see why TV is so lame anymore. The NBC executives and their so called "Talent scouts" (lackies) don't know what is funny.
We plan to boycott the show. Hope you join us.

I'm done with this show.

Didn't catch the first season, so didn't realize that the 10 funniest out of the 20 in Vegas weren't all going to move on.

I would rather see the funniest people next week instead of the 10 that the producers thought would be the best "mix of personalities" or whatever other crap they picked these 10 based on.

3 or 4 (a couple were so bad, I've already forgotten their acts) of the 10 in the house simply never made me laugh once over all their acts shown. Why would NBC think I'd watch them on Comedy Central or whatever crap show they put them on?

tonight's picks were much less annoying than last night's, IMO. they couldn't do much wrong as this group didn't have anyone as awful as Holcomb or C*** (well, ok, that one guy that really sucked, but that was it. RJ, or JP, or ABC or whatever his name was. and even he wasn't as bad as the two that DID make it last night). I'm very happy Alonzo and Jay made it, the other slots were toss ups for me. Kinda sad Wiggins gets called back only not to make it again though I'm glad the guy he replaced is gone though, he was so friggin obnoxious

I agree that they could have picked any of these guys and been OK....as long as it included Dan Naturman. He was hands down, without question the best set of the night.

I was shocked that he didn't make it in the house. He was the best in my opinion too. He was funnier than the Sicilian chick. Last night had far better comics than the night before. I didn't like the blonde chick or DC whatshisname. Jay London was great. Alonzo was great. John Heffron was funny. I can't stand Todd Glass, but I know why he's in the house. Replace Sicily chick with Dan and I would be happy really.

I'm still going to watch for the entertainment value. These shows aren't about talent... of course they were "pre-picked" (or the producers had an idea who they wanted in the house). That's what reality tv is all about. The right mix for great entertainment.

Realizing full well that the fix was in, the choices had already been weighted, and it was all about the potential personality clash in the house -- I still barely made it through the last choice. If they hadn't taken Jay, I was going to try out my Olympic form for the Scream, Spin, And TV Throw. I thought the funniest line of the night was his working in the Beyond department. (I was looking for a Twilight Zone-style follow-up, but had to settle for the launch point.)

Weird, weird configuration of ten. And just why is the fortune teller machine back, anyway? Does it know Tom Hanks or something?

Wiggins got absolutely screwed! He was by far one of the best comics in the entire competition. Especially when you consider that he had just gotten off a plane 45 minutes before he went on stage. I'm also wondering if that little statement Jay Mohr made before the performances wasn't taped after the "blow up" with Drew Carrey and Brett Buttler. He (Jay) says very clearly (while standing next to the celebrity judges) that the clebrity judges along with the producers (or something like that) make the final decision.

I love Jim Norton. I guess it depends on your sense of humor. His comedy is in your face and meant to be offensive. I was hoping he would get in the house and stir things up.

The Old Dude Hippy Comic was alright as far as his comedy style but I my throat hurt every time he started talking. He should be commended for loving his job and lasting as long as he has in the business.

I.E. They are just there to attract people and have NOTHING to do with who is selected.

I just got done watching and I felt bad for Drew and Brett. I'd hate to be used as a face to attract ratings like that. :/ LCS should've been straight up with them all when they asked them onto the show instead of letting it slide by that their votes weren't the deciding votes.

Then there was that one part where Drew was talking with one of the producers(?) and he asked 'Do the folks at home know we're not the only ones voting?' and the producer said yes.

I don't know about anyone else but I didn't know anyone else was voting. Who is it? If we're supposed to know, why haven't these mystery people been introduced to us, the audience members at home?

I know Mr Carey probably won't ever see this but I'd like to say that the producer lied, Drew - not all of us at home knew you guys weren't the only voters. We do NOW but still...

As an aside I don't necessarily disagree with all the choices but I think that's pretty messed up. I'll keep watching but I can say that the whole celebrity panel of judges thing really doesn't matter to me anymore. I'll just be watching to see the comic acts and take it for granted that the producers, in their infinite wisdom, have already decided what the last show's outcome will be.

I don't know about anyone else but I didn't know anyone else was voting. Who is it? If we're supposed to know, why haven't these mystery people been introduced to us, the audience members at home?

Actually at the end of the program there is a series of disclaimers and one of them is that the order of the comics is arranged for "creative" reasons and that the "contestants" were pre-determined by producers and talent scouts. It flashes by quick, but it's there.

I have no doubt that the reason these disclaimers are there is because of the fuss that Drew and Brett made AND that the producer told Drew "yes, the audience knows you're not the only ones judging".

Still...all in all if they had just told us from the beginning, this is the process we went through...these are the 10 people getting in...these are the 10 people not getting in the house...Deal With It, I would have been less pissy about the whole thing.

But what the hell, it's a frikkin TV show. Entertain me and I'll watch.

BTW ABOUT THE FIX.........Why the h*ll isnt Pablo Fransisco in the semi-finals......of all the comics that were there he is by far the funniest and is a PROFESSIONAL comedian to boot....... Thats like saying Drew Carey isnt as good as Ant or Buck Star

"RE: the fix IS in"
Posted by la_bruin on 06-17-04 at 05:52 AM
Testify brother! I still can't reeling over the fact that Pablo Francisco isn't in the running. He's been in the business for YEEEEEEEAAAAAARS and his comedic library is massive. He's a staple on Comedy Central for god's sake. Check out Pablo's web site at: http://www.pablofrancisco.com/

And not having Jim Norton compete was a friggin' greek tragedy. Do you all understand that his sets were so good, the editing room gave him almost 50% MORE TIME on air than any other comic? (Review the set times and see for yourself) They basically used his talent then cut him loose. Go check out his web site at: http://www.eatabullet.com/
(Or better yet, read his evil on http://www.cringehumor.net/jim_norton/)

But Dan Naturman. Now THAT was a full-on Network screw if I ever saw one. To quote Jim Norton, what bunch of NBC network douche bags. The DAMNED show intro says "WHO IS THE FUNNIEST?" written on the screen and if they're saying that Dan Naturman isn't a candidate for that title, then I'd say that NBC is guilty of false advertising.
Go see him at http://www.dannaturman.com

I don't think I've been so bitter about a stupid TV show in my life. I'm not going to boycott the show: I'm no Nielsen family and I don't believe that boycotting does anything.

But I assure you that I will NOT be buying any of the products advertised during the show namely Capital One, Levitra, Kohl's, People PC Online, Ponds, Propel Water, Citibank, SBC, Ocean Spray, Zelnorm, Nissan, Allegra, Best Buy
... and any of the other advertisers.

Additionally, I declare NBC dishonest and I accuse them of jacking around with the public's trust. Nobody's going to buy that NBC wasn't selling the show as a race for the funniest comic. "Who is the funniest?" is on the SCREEN in text... they straight up lied.

And let's face it: Nothing is more honest than comedy: It's either funny to the populous or it's not. There's no BS, there's nothere's no idiotic exemption contests. The fact that comedians like Todd Glass, Jay London, Gary Gulman, and ANT are in the running for this big cheese of comedy gig over some of the much more deserving comics out there is appalling.

But most importantly - I'm going to root for the comics I know are funny on the show (unlike Dat Phan in season 1 <ahem>) and see comics and their live performances like Jim, Pablo, and Dan when the come into town. And I'll bring friends.

Well, well, well...here we go again...Another reality (not) unscripted (not) bunch of BS from our friends (not) at NBC...
I am just wondering if this whole fix was planeed from the start, really, they had Engle the producer all lined up ready to comment on the controversy...I just dunno anymore, it is all a bunch of crap...
First of all... IMHO Naturman was the funniest of all the comics, in fact when he was performing they did a quick shot of Brett and if you could read her lips she was saying "he is the funniest" now of course that was planned as well so that makes me think that the whole thing was planned to create a controversy, which they LOVE...I don't know if I should feel bad for Drew and Brett or hate them for being part of it...BTW, was this show live or taped???
isn't this show supposed to be about who the funniest comic is? not who would be most interesting in the house...I don't know about the rest of you but I watch the show for comedy, to unwind after a rough day...not to watch controversy, but I guess the NBC yuckamucks see it differently...(AS DO ALOT OF THE IGNORANT PEOPLE WHO WATCH IT)
I feel so badly for the comics that deserved to move on but weren't selected because they weren't "spicy" enough for the idiots at NBC...I feel that 5 of the 10 selected deserved to move on and the other 5 should go back to selling cars or waiting tables or whatever they do...
This is just another sad statement on our society, when even something as pure as comedy gets transformed into lies and deceit by Corporate retards who wouldn't know good comedy if it hit them in the face...
BTW...I have been down this road before in a way that hits much closer to home...I have a son (no names or shows) who was in a reality show and was jerked around to no end...If I had my way I would have sued these neandrethal scumbags. My wife and I are definitely going to boycot the show and it would be great if we could pass this along to millions to do the same...I know it wont happen because most people really don't care but it is a nice thought...NBC...WE DON'T BUY YOUR BS, WE KNOW WHAT YOU ARE ALL ABOUT...TAKE YOUR MONEY AND STICK IT WHERE THE SUN DOESN'T SHINE....

PEACE....OUT

“...As pure as comedy...” I just threw up my lunchtime cocktail on my grimy green rob. Your statement right there is way too sugary for my jaded personality. Your “Corporate retards” are a business and I‘m not here to dispute the fact that they are just like my grimy rob. But look at the state of comedy these days it’s in mostly habited by lazy people (that right there is my sweeping stereotype, but Alonzo Bodden was right about stereotypes holding true), who don’t have the desire to work. How pure can comedy be when a hot girl decides that it’s better to be called “sweetheart” then “#####”?

Still, your points about the “IGNORANT PEOPLE WHO WATCH IT” holds true, I will pled ignorance to the fact that I for some reason suspend disbelief when I watch a reality show. I start to believe once again that most of the people competing aren’t whoring themselves out to the network. But we all know that’s not true. It all comes down to using each other, even if the network is the one who truly wins. They get a vast major of the money, very cheap entertainment, and if they are lucky a hit TV show. The comics on this show get a free trip, 15 minutes of fame, free water, and a royal screwing from the network in question. And all they need to do was fall into this not so symbiotic relationship by allowing full control over their image. So how can we blame this network for blatant fixing of a so-called contest? It could be called business as usually or protecting their investment, take your pick. All I know is that most of these comics don’t need a corporate handout to succeed.

ah...c'mon....everyone who wants to get on a reality show wants their 15 minutes of fame and they GET IT!! How else would most of those folks get viewed by millions on prime time???No one really gets hurt...they want to be on TV, they GET on T.V. Will the BEST COMIC IN THE USA win the show??? Of course not!! It's about entertainment and I am entertained.

la_bruin, you refer people to an excellent site regarding the farce that is LCS 2. I particularly recommend Patrick's 3 columns on the LCS2 Controversy. They're clickable from http://www.cringehumor.net/columns/ . There are some other interesting columns on that page.

Also, if you want to read an uncensorsed (translation: includes raw language and descriptions)thread including comments from some comics that were in the tryouts, you might want to read the CH Forum. The link is on the right side near the bottom.

It looks like the fix is even worse than I thought. I have to give Drew and Brett a lot of credit. However, I'm frosted by NBC, Jay Mohr and the producers.

Based on what happened last year, Patrick seems to think Gary Gulman will win.

I guess I may be the only one who wasn't as upset about the selections after seeing the show last night. It seemed to me they picked the people who did NEW material! Since Drew and Brett hadn't seen the comics previous performances, of course they had no idea who was doing new material and this weighed heavily into the producers' decision, I think. I mean, after they got into the house, did any of us really want to see some of these people doing the same material for the 5th or 6th straight time? Not me. That's why I think they made good choices. Pick people who can come up with new stuff!

Also, I wouldn't say it was a total fix. DC Benny had done pretty well up until Vegas and looked like a lock to make the house. Then last night he totally BOMBED and it cost him! So I'd say last night's perfromances meant SOMETHING! It's just that previous perfromances were considered as well.

The biggest thing that stuck out for me was the disparity in the semi-final fields between Tuesday and Wednesday night. Last night's field was MUCH stronger than Tuesday's.

Pretty much everyone left me flat on Tuesday. I would've rather seen Dan Ahdoot and Monty over Ant and Corey, but none of them were spectacular.

As for Wednesday, the only one who really got jobbed was Dan Naturman. DC Benny disappointed. I've seen him on Comedy Central a couple times, and he's always made me laugh. Not last night, though. He knew he bombed, too. Sue Costello was awful, and I still don't think Marina has an act. She's just good at impressions. There's room for material there, and I kept expecting her to finish off her bits, but she never did. That, to me, is proof that she's still really green.

John Heffron was very good, as were Jay and (surprisingly, IMO) Tammy. Alonzo wasn't as good last night as he was earlier in the competition, but I was glad to see him make it.

However, it should've been Dan Naturman over Todd Glass. It's obvious that they picked Todd because they think he'll make for better TV with all of his hyperactivity. That's disappointing, because he's been really sloppy everytime he's been on stage so far.

Dan's bits about the gift certificate and the jukebox were exceptional. He should've been picked for the house. However, he did himself a disservice by acting like such a complete baby about the results.

Yes, nobody likes a sore loser. What made him think that he was the one that deserved it more than any of the others that got eliminated? Comedy is very personal. What one crowd finds funny, another crowd doesn't.

Ill tell you what made Dan think he deserved it more.

The fact that Drew Carey and Brett Butler went back stage and told him that they, along with Anthony Clark (thats 3 out of the 4 celebrity judges) had him ranked #1 on their list. Remember this is before they knew "other people" were judging them.

However, it should've been Dan Naturman over Todd Glass.

That would be the one and only trade I would have made from last night too. Despite the outrage (and really people, if this gets you outraged you really need to find a more worthwhile cause) of others I agreed with 4 of the 5 picks each night so from my perspective they did a good job. Then again, it could just be the editing.

The thing I did notice about Dan Naturman is that he is similar in looks and style to John Heffron and perhaps the prodcuers didn't want two people who were too alike in the house. I kept getting them confused until last night. Just a theory.

I also agree with Fester. I noticed the disparity between Tuesday and last night as well. I was impressed last night, but disappointed on Tuesday. I thought Dan Naturman was better than any of the final ten, but I was a little disappointed in his attitude when he didn't make the cut. Hopefully, Dan's career will take off now after his outstanding performance on this show. He doesn't need the house - it was obvious to a lot of people how talented he is. He was my favorite, but now I'll probably root for Kathleen Madigan.

I thought it was really too bad that the first 10 comics were significantly below the quality of the second night. After watching the reruns of both nights (back to back) on Sunday, a case could have been made to just put the entire second hour in the house and dump the first hour. Dan was great (until after the show) and I really enjoyed Jim Wiggins too!

I'd say Ant and Gary definately got hooked up with the night that they were put on.I'd say that at least one of the will make the final five.

While Dan's attitude did nothing for his marketability it is understandable when seen the way how he didn't get into the house. If I failed to crack the top 10 despite being told by three professional comics who also served as judges that I was number one on their list I'd be pissed too.

Where are all the good female comedians cuz this years crop ain't cutting it.I bet that Bonnie and Tammie will probably go head to head in one of the comic showdowns. My pick for fist out of the house is Tammie.
