""Family" show?"

Was anyone watching TAR2 repeats on UPN? During the commercials, they were promoting one of UPN's new reality shows. It actually looks kinda cool to me. You have 5 families competing against one another with the prize being the house they're staying in. (Kinda like a large scale BB) It actually sounds very cool but I wonder how people get voted off and other workings of the show? Anyone heard of it before now?

The show is "Under One Roof" and it starts in a couple of weeks. We first talked about this show A LONG TIME AGO when the casting application was announced -- I think shakes was the one to bring it up, I think i rmember jokes about Mom and Dad having to team up to vote out their daughter

I don't think "Under One Roof" was the original name. My understanding is that the families compete with win a beach house.

Here's an article from a couple of months ago:

Here's a better article, with about all the details we'll ever need to know:

The show is produced by Bruce Toms who was the lead director of "The Real World - Venice" in 1993. He was also lead director on "Road Rules" (seasons 3-8) from 1997 to 1999. In 2000, he produced and directed "Road Rules" (season 9) and was nominated for an Emmy. After wrapping "Road Rules," Toms served as co-producer of the Fox Television reality series "The Love Cruise."

It is described as a family-based reality series. Five families will live together under one roof on a secluded Fijian island and compete for a deed to the house. In each episode the families will compete in a Property Quest competition where the winners are awarded a ribbon and the family at the end with the most ribbons wins the deed to the luxurious beachfront home. They will also compete in a Family Face Off competition where the winners get to pick an advantage item, which could help them in future competitions. Or may not. Or they can pick a special prize which they can enjoy when they go home. Both competitions are inspired by traditional Fijian cultural activities. At the end of every OTHER episode the family with the least amount of ribbons has to leave the island. In the final episode the two final families will compete in a head-to-head competition for the deed.

...until SECRET FAMILY #3 -- the first family to have been voted out -- gets put back into the final competition.

Thanks, SB ^-^

I don't know, it actually sounds kinda cool to me....I think it'll be nice to see a few families that are more dysfunctional than my own lol; Too bad they (each family) don't have to vote out their own family members one by one though - that would have been more interesting IMO.

Okay I watched "Under One Roof" tonight. It made me laugh. I loved how the parents were fighting and the teens were embarressed and just wanted the other families to like them. I think there could be a few too many men wanting to be the head of the household.

We have parents bribing their kids to go on this show. I'll watch next week. I wonder if the family stays the night in the haunted church?

I saw the 2nd episode of this show last Friday and found it too be more interesting than Survivor because of the family dynamics. One of the challenges was to get the most spiders to stay on family members, with members designated to place the spiders and members designated to be the spider recipients. The family that won with 40-something spiders had a child who was deathly afraid of the spiders, but the family was required to stand in close proximity of each other, so the father held his daughter on his back while the other 2 children placed spiders on their mother. She had most of them down placed in her blouse and some on her hair. I thought it was a good program.

I think this show ranks right up there with Survivor. Good thing I'm getting old and I don't mind giving up my Thur and Friday nights up to tv.

We may never find out who wins since it sounds like this show has been cancelled.

LAST EDITED ON 04-06-02 AT 08:01 AM (EST)

show was put on hiatus, I'm upset, I really want to know who won the house! I emailed onlinepolicy@upn.com and urged them to air the remaining episodes. Hope it works!

You know, between The Mole II, No Boundaries and now Under One Roof, I'm about ready to boycott reality shows. I'm getting pretty tired of getting caught up in a show and them pulling it mid-season with promises of re-showing it. I was really enjoying UOR.

Well I've never heard of this show. It sounds different. I will probably watch the first show if I remember to. Then I'll decide if I keep watching it. I guess it depends what type of familes they have on this show.

Okay I saw an article about this show in an Entertainment Weekly magazine. Sounds like it starts this Friday night.
