Hello!

Welcome to the thread that takes Survivor with a grain of Astrology.

It’s been a while, yes?

So, before our first look at the tribes that SEG/CBS wrought for Blood vs Water, here are brief explanations of the descriptive terms that you’ll see associated with each player on the Tribal Chart – Role, Sun Sign and Element:

Astrology groups personalities, first, by the common innate traits and behaviors of the natives of each of the twelve Astronomy-inspired Sun Signs. Keyword – Ego.

Then it places each of the twelve in a group of three Sun Signs defined by their display of the characteristics of one of the four Philosophy-inspired Elements. Keyword – Temperament.

Note: By clicking on the links below – or by scrolling the thread – you’ll arrive at composite Element and Sun Sign Profiles drawn from multiple web-based Astrology resources.

Links to Profiles

The Earth Signs – These three practical and industrious Signs are Capricorn, Taurus and Virgo.
The Water Signs – These three emotional and intuitive Signs are Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces.
The Fire Signs – These three charismatic and spontaneous Signs are Aries, Leo and Sagittarius.
The Air Signs – These three intellectual and balanced Signs are Libra, Gemini and Aquarius

Note: The personalities of the three Sun Signs within an Element are said to be compatible with each other. And the Elements of Earth and Water – and of Fire and Air – are considered to be complementary of one another and in opposition to the other duo. And, as you will see shortly, this is important …

Finally, Astrology further identifies and describes each of the three Sun Signs within an Element by the Sign’s Psychology-inspired Mode/Quality. Keyword: Behavior.

The initiative Cardinal Signs approach new environments with a zest for beginning new activities and pursuing new accomplishments. Earth’s Cardinal Sign is Capricorn. Water’s Cardinal Sign is Cancer. Fire’s Cardinal Sign is Aries. And Air’s Cardinal Sign is Libra.

The versatile Mutable Signs are able to see life from many perspectives. As a result, they are flexible, adaptable and restless: there is a touch of urgency and haste in their natures. Earth’s Mutable Sign is Virgo. Water’s Mutable Sign is Pisces. Fire’s Mutable Sign is Sagittarius. And Air’s Mutable Sign is Gemini.

The steadfast Fixed Signs dig in. And they are respected for their self-containment and sense of purpose. However, change is difficult for them, and as a result, they have a reputation for being stubborn. Earth’s Fixed Sign is Taurus. Water’s Fixed Sign is Scorpio. Fire’s Fixed Sign is Leo. And Air’s Fixed Sign is Aquarius.

You will see the Modes indicated for each Sun Sign within the Profiles. I do not, however, use them on charts.

Instead, you will see charted the Survivor-inspired Roles. Keyword: Place.

The Profiles of the Superior Signs – Capricorn (Cardinal Earth), Cancer (Cardinal Water), Scorpio (Fixed Water) and Leo (Fixed Fire) – indicate that their natives are most comfortable – and function most effectively – in a position of leadership.

The Profiles of the Subordinate Signs – Taurus (Fixed Earth), Virgo (Mutable Earth), Pisces (Mutable Water) and Gemini (Mutable Air) – indicate that these personalities are most comfortable – and function most effectively – in sheltered (supportive or specialized) positions.

And the Profiles of the Soloist Signs – Aries (Cardinal Fire), Sagittarius (Mutable Fire), Libra (Cardinal Air) and Aquarius (Fixed Air) – tell us that these folks are most comfortable – and function most effectively – in autonomous (detached or semi-detached) positions.

Now! With all of that said for the Season, we can, as promised, move on to Galang and Tadhana. And I think that we’d better do that quickly if we want to see them as they were – or as what they could have been – at all. Because it would seem that the producers have decided – via Redemption Island and an additional Changing-Places Twist – to destroy the integrity of the Tribes and of the Season's theme before its first sundown.

At Tadhana, The Superiors

Katie - Cancer is thought to be the Zodiac’s maternal Sun Sign.

Ciera and Rachel - And Leo is considered to be its paternal Sun Sign.

So the instinctive leadership of the Tribe is naturally much more benign and familial than it is bellicose and fierce. The three Cancer who have won the Game are Danni, JT and Sophie. Sandra and Amber are its Leo winners.

At Tadhana, The Subordinates

Brad and John - Taurus are amazingly industrious and ambitious. And they are usually very even-tempered. But, unfortunately for Taurus who play the Game, Survivor doesn’t very often – ultimately – reward virtue.

Laura Boneham - Virgo are famously detail-oriented and innately accomplished managers. But Virgo will have their way. Think Ian (Palau) - Judd (Guatemala), Becky (Cook Islands) – Parvati (Cook Islands) and Rocky (Fiji) – Yau-man (Fiji). Virgo almost always bring to my mind the refrain: ‘ When they are good, they are very, very good. And when they are bad, they are really, really bad’.

However, the presence of Earth Sign Subordinates usually bode well for a Tribe's social stability and physical comfort.

At Tadhana, The Soloists

Hayden, Marissa and Vytas - Aries are renowned for their independent, pugnacious – no -holds-barred – and inspirational qualities. They are often blunt to the point of insult. They are also usually very intelligent and relish challenge. They would seem to be made for the Game. But their personalities, like those of Virgo, can be very contradictory.

For instance: the seemingly cool and focused Richard (Borneo) and Earl (Fiji) are Aries. But so are Randy, Crystal and Erik of Gabon. And Peigh-Gee and Courtney of China . So I always look forward to seeing which Aries shows up. And this Season, I am particularly looking forward to the comparisons of Vytas and Aras – a Libra – during the Game and in the Forums.

Caleb - Like the other Libra in the Season (Aras), he is paired with a volatile Fire Sign. His partner, Colton, is a Sagittarius. And in terms of relationships, that Sign is certainly more unpredictable than is Aries.

But I’ll have more to say about Libra (and Sagittarius) on the far side of the chart. For now I’ll suggest that – when you’re visiting the thread’s complete Profiles – you remember to take a look at the list of Alumni. Linking the behaviors and personalities of individuals we’ve seen play the Game to those we’ve yet to come to know beyond a name and an interview can be very instructive. One of the reasons that Astrology has not only persisted, but flourished, for thousands of years is that history does, demonstrably, repeat itself.

And now to the other side of – Probst’s and Burnett’s – contest.

At Galang, The Superiors

Tina - Capricorn.

I suppose that I should just come right out and say that I do not get on swimmingly with Capricorn. But I don’t mean to imply that it’s their fault. It is just that I’m a miserably disorganized Sagittarius with the Sign’s typical intense – but short – attention spans. In other words, I really don’t consider it critical – if it obviously-to-normal-people isn’t critical – if I don’t finish something that I started. What the heck? Tomorrow’s another day and another project.

But Capricorn care. Oh, do those driven, determined, demanding, rules-are-rules and deadlines-are-deadlines, Chief Operating Officers-Of-All-They-Survey care! And do they make everyone else within your world care! Nor do they tolerate poor workmanship. Or disloyalty. Or any of a hundred other human frailties.

I know that Rob Mariano appears to be a really nice guy. But I don’t believe it for an instant …

Consider this from the Capricorn Profile:

‘ … Capricorn exude a sense of being in charge. And they usually are … And as the ranking authority figure in a given situation they expect their underlings to be as self- disciplined as they themselves are and to perform every task undertaken to the highest standard. They are often humorless ... (and/or) their penchant for melancholy creates a unique filter for Capricorn humor that is known to veer toward the darkly absurd.’

Reference: Natalie of Micronesia and Corinne of Gabon.

And to that may I say, Amen!

But, for reasons that will become obvious in the next post, Tina Wesson is one of my heroes. And so is Denise Stapley – who very graciously confirmed her birthdate for me when I could only manage conflicting dates.

Note: Tina's and Tom Westman’s fellow Capricorn (Rob, Denise and Cochran) have won three of the last six Seasons.

Kat Edorsson - I’ve already talked a bit about the Cancer personality. But I’ll add that, although the Cancer cast for Survivor are usually ‘older’ versions of the personality, one doesn’t have to be elderly to have a nurturing approach to relationships. Kat is one example. JT Thomas is another. And I think that my favorite, Cirie, is timeless.

Gervase and Candice - Scorpio is – within the context of the Game – the Sign that most fascinates me.

Thirty-six different Scorpio have played the Game. Twenty-four have been women. And seven of those women have been first-booted from their Season or their Tribe. For a total of eight times: Francesca left first – twice. And, as you’re about to see, Scorpio – along with Sagittarius and Taurus and despite being lauded for the abundance of geniuses within their ranks – are horrible as Survivor contestants. They rank dead last in the percentage of their natives who reach F10, F4 and F1. And next-to-last (behind Taurus) at reaching F3. Ethan has been their only unqualified success.

So what happens?

Well, I think that within a very competitive setting saturated with paranoia, Scorpio just scare the dickens out of their tribemates. Says their Profile:

‘Scorpio are the most profound and powerful characters in the Zodiac. There is a harnessed aggression, an immense forcefulness, magnetic attraction and often strangely hypnotic quality in their tranquil, but watchful, composure that can be intimidating. An outer mask of cool control belies a vast and often turbulent psychic interior. In a word, the Scorpio is intense …’

A Scorpio sampler: Tom Buchanan, Scout, Jolanda, Marty, Brenda and Jeff Probst.

Laura Morett - In her previous Season, Blood vs Water’s third Leo reminded me very much of Leslie Nease (China). And a bit of Amanda Kimmel of the same Season.

From the Leo Profile:

‘ … There is a public confidence with the Leo Sun that affords them free reign to fully express their creative and social selves. Whether they end up in civil service or on a Broadway stage, chances are they’ll have an audience …

It is a Leo’s birthright to lead, and they'll naturally assume that role without being asked. However, if that authority is questioned, they may abandon a project entirely. Outgoing, spontaneously warm-hearted and plain-spoken (but poor judges of character), Leo are more disillusioned than the average if let down by those they trust.

And, since Leo simply can't function if they're not in a position to lead, they'll brood until that status has been reinstated. However, even after they discover that they've been duped or abandoned, most Leos are too big about it – or too proud – to retaliate.’

On the whole they are powers for good, for they are strongly idealistic, humane, and beneficent. They have a powerful intelligence and are of a broad philosophical, sometimes religious, turn of mind. Those who are devout may be very obstinate in upholding traditional beliefs ...'

At Galang, The Subordinates

Monica and Tyson - Gemini is, I think, another fascinating Sign within the Game. And, having been questioned about their ‘Subordinate’ role-designation, I hope it helps if I say that I didn’t come to that conclusion because Gemini are – in the Game – extraordinarily hard-working. It is, I’m afraid, just the opposite: Gemini natives playing Survivor have an amazing talent for attaching themselves to an individual or an alliance and sheltering there for the duration.

Holwever, Gemini also have an amazing talent for brightening everyone's darkest of days. And their delightful irreverence at a campfire or enthusiasm in a challenge is often worth every bit of the upheaval they cause ... and much more more.

From their Profile:

‘Gemini, the Sign of the Twins, is dual-natured, elusive, complex and contradictory. To them, life is a game that must always be full of fresh moves and continuous entertainment and free of labor and routine. Charmers and clowns, they often wear a silly grin that seems to say that they get the cosmic joke that all is, after all, well … They’re great wits and their interest in people often thrusts them into the role of social ice breaker … But be warned that like chameleons, they absorb and reflect every change in their environment and can become pessimistic, sullen, peevish and self-centered prattlers, boasters, liars and cheats if circumstances force them to struggle in any way.

So, Katie Gallagher’s tantrum, Tyson’s tattling, Lisi’s absurdities, Lex’s meltdown, Joel’s fury, Chet's petulance, Ashley’s collapse, etc., didn’t surprise me. But Jud Birza’s win sure did!

At Galang, The Soloists

Colton – Regrettably is, like me – a Sagittarius.

I wish I had something as soothingly convenient as genius, magnetism and mystery to explain my Sun Sign’s miserable Survivor performance. And I suppose that I could blame it all on our penchant for blunt talk, windmill-tilting, defense of underdogs or terminal clumsiness. But, I honestly think that it has much more to do with that darned attention span: I think that Sagittarius playing the Game simply grow weary of it far sooner than do other Signs. Thirty-nine uninterrupted days is an awfully long time for one of us to maintain an interest in the most pleasant of pursuits. Much less contrived misery.

I’d offer names to illustrate the range of Sagittarius interaction in the Survivor environment, but I simply can't come up with enough examples of contrasting behavior.

However, I will say that Stephenie deserves far better press than she gets. And I’ll explain that later.

Aras – Libra, like Leo for their wealth and Scorpio for their genius, are notable for the number of Judges born under the Sign. And like their fellow Air natives (Aquarius and Gemini), their behavior can be inordinately influenced by fluid environments. I do think, though, that deliberative Libra are able to function within them more effectively than are the other two.

It is, however, fun to watch a Libra struggle to contain their exasperation with uncertainty and confusion. For example: Marcus with The Onion Alliance, Russell Hantz with The World-At-Large, Edgardo with Multiple Shape-Shifting Alliances, Jaison with The Gods-At-Large and, of course, Aras with The Gemini Gals and The Mad Puffer.

And, as I said earlier, I think that it’s going to be very interesting to watch Aras and Caleb cope with Vytas and Colton during a Game of Survivor. I only wish that we were going to have Cirie for the play-by-play.

From the Libra Profile:

‘… The Libra personality attracts the revelations, confidences, gossip and trust of others like a magnet – they thrive in calm, aesthetically pleasing environments. Libra are (however) easily upset by the chaos of life and then the October-born can be … quarrelsome … irritable and … intractable …

Libra will vacillate to and fro between extremes: mental, emotional or physical … The polar opposite of subjective Aries, the Libra is quite capable of objective judgment …

… (but) once they have reached a conclusion Libra will not tolerate a divergent opinion: among their faults is an impatience of criticism and a greed for approval.

Rupert: Aquarius – you will find this shocking, I know – are stubborn.

Also, from their Profile:

‘ They are also extremely tolerant, often quite eccentric and present themselves in two core types: extroverted, lively, exuberant and exhibitionist – or – shy, sensitive, gentle and patient. And because they instinctively appreciate diversity, Aquarius are often called the ‘rebel’ of the Zodiac. However, their rebellion is usually subtle and most often manifests itself in unconventional dress or grooming, erratic behaviors and wry (devastating) sarcasm. Neither type of Aquarius makes friends easily. They are fiercely independent and self-sufficient. They dislike interference by others. Wronged, they don’t forgive.

Gosh! If we could just figure out which type of Aquarius Rupert is!

Some contrasts:

Jenna – Kim, Yul – Todd, Rupert – Stephen, Flicka – NaOnka, Jamie – Brian – Brandon (Guatemala)

Everybody’s An Aquarius – A True Story:

When the cast for Nicaragua was announced and I first looked for Jud Birza’s birthdate online, I ran across a dormant MySpace page and his declaration on it that his Sun Sign was Aquarius (January 21 – February 19). His birthday, however, is June 12th – in the middle of Gemini territory. But I have no idea if Jud knew, when he created the page, that Gemini (with Libra), is the Sun Sign least frequently cast by Survivor and Aquarius is one of the most frequently chosen.

And with that, voilà! We have arrived at the chart that is going to tell us all about the Sun Signs’ performances - from Casting to F1 - for the past twenty-six Survivor Seasons.

Notes:

1. I’ve omitted connecting/graph lines from this Season’s charts. I hope that, as a result, they will be easier to read.

2.A - The first column illustrates the total number of times the Sign was cast over twenty-six Seasons – ranked numerically, high to low – and contains the names of the Signs’ natives playing Blood vs Water. Range: Capricorn – 48 to Gemini – 29.

2. B – The second column illustrates the raw number and the percentage of the Signs’ natives who reached F10 – ranked by percentage, high to low – over the past twenty-six Seasons. Range: Libra/Leo – 65% to Scorpio – 46%.

2. C – The third column illustrates the raw number and the percentage of the Signs’ natives who reached F4 – ranked by percentage, high to low – over the past twenty-six Seasons. Range: Capricorn – 31% to Scorpio – 12%.

2. D – The fourth column illustrates the raw number and the percentage of the Signs’ natives who reached F3 – ranked by percentage, high to low – over the past twenty-six Seasons. Range: Libra – 24% to Taurus – 8%.

2. E – The last column illustrates the raw number and the percentage of the Signs’ natives who reached F1 and became a Season’s Sole Survivor – ranked by percentage, high to low – over the past twenty-six Seasons. Range: Capricorn 11% to Gemini/Libra/Sagittarius/Taurus/Scorpio – 3%.

This chart offers a lot to talk about. But if I had to pick three things that I believe are the most informative, they would be (1)what happens to hard-working Taurus from F10 to F3 and (2)Libra’s inability to ‘close’ from F3 to F1. The third, however, is something that you can’t see on the chart:

From S21 through S26 the total number of each Sign’s natives cast were Capricorn – 10, Virgo – 11, Aquarius – 7, Leo – 1, Taurus – 9, Aries – 7, Cancer – 11, Scorpio – 14, Sagittarius – 8, Pisces – 12, Gemini – 8, Libra – 14.

So, why are Survivor’s producers suddenly enamored of Libra (from S1 through S20 they had only cast the Sign 20 times) and whatever did Troyzan (the lone Leo cast during the same time frame) - do?

And – now that you’ve thought about it – if by some miraculous turn of fate this Season’s two Tribes were permitted to remain intact (less only Boots and Quits) until then, which one would you expect to send the most players to a merge at F10?

Too, would you enjoy watching every Season of Survivor play out with two Tribes that remained intact (less only Boots and Quits) from F20/18/16 to F1 with an opportunity to identify (and identify with) odds-defined Favorite/Underdog/Toss-Up Tribes before each Season began ?

And, finally, would you like to know why Tina Wesson had an opportunity – in Blood v Water – to repeat a feat that only she and two other players have ever accomplished?

Well, first a reminder:

Note: The personalities of the three Sun Signs within an Element are said to be compatible with each other. And the Elements of Earth and Water – and of Fire and Air – are considered to be complementary of one another and in opposition to the other duo. And, as you will see shortly, this is important …

Hello, again!

Here we are at – shortly – to meet two rather different-looking Season 27 Tribes.

I’ve dubbed them F and A and E and W. But, I suppose they could be referred to as The Red and The Blue - for the Fire (of Fire and Air) and the Water (of Earth and Water). And I rather like those designations because, if you think about the innate traits and behaviors of the two Tribes, they do bear a strong resemblance to a couple of well-known American political parties who, despite their tendencies toward internecine warfare during Off-Seasons, always show up – theoretically-united, wide-eyed and bushy-tailed – to beat the tar out of the other side when the Game is once again renewed.

In fact, one of the nicest things about these Tribes is that – so long as the Game is populated by human beings – they, just the two of them, will be there. No matter what we call them or what convolutions or contrivances happen to be dancing in anyone’s graying, anointed head.

But, that is only one of the nice things about them. So, before we look at the Tribes, just below is a chart that I hope will help me explain a few of the others:

The chart above illustrates the history of the natural opposition of the complementary Elements of Earth and Water to the complementary Elements of Fire and Air within Survivor:

Six Seasons have been cast with a – 50%/50% – balance between the two. They’re charted in the upper right of the graphic. The F&A Signs have produced the Sole Survivor in four of those Seasons and the E&W Signs have produced the winner in two. And as you can see - to their credit, I think - the Game’s producers provided a level playing field for the returning Survivors in both ‘All-Star’ Seasons. Both won, by the way, by Leo women.

The lower portion of the graphic is dedicated to the history of the twenty-one Seasons that have been cast with Majority/Minority splits. Earth and Water Majority Seasons are on the left and Fire and Air Majority Seasons are on the right.

An Earth or Water native has been the Sole Survivor in eleven of the thirteen Seasons when those two complementary Elements were the Majority. Yul (Air-Aquarius) and Jud (Air-Gemini) – in Cook Islands and Nicaragua – are the exceptions. And a Fire or Air native has won six of the seven completed Seasons when those two complementary Elements were the Majority. Tina (Earth-Capricorn) – in The Outback – is the exception.

So, in the twenty completed Majority/Minority Seasons with splits ranging from 56%-44% to 72%-28%, the Majority Tribe has produced the winner in seventeen: 85% of the time. Nice odds if you can get them, huh? And obviously - for a handful of examples from over 100 – Tina Wesson can’t. Nor can Kat . Or Gervase. All three of these Earth and Water natives have now been cast for the second time in a Season with a Fire and Air Majority. But wouldn’t it be fun to see Tina beat those formidable odds again?

On the other side of the aisle, Fire and Air natives Stephenie LaGrossa (in Palau and Guatemala) and Russell Hantz (in Samoa and Redemption Island) were each cast twice in Seasons with Earth and Water Majorities. Had it not been for their participation in the balanced Heroes vs Villains the two would have had no luck at all.

In contrast, neither Rob Mariano or ‘Coach’ Wade or Rupert Boneham – in their combined eleven appearances in the Game – has ever been on the short end of its Majority/Minority casting schemes . In fact, in Redemption Island, Rob’s Earth and Water Majority enjoyed a 67%-33% advantage over a Fire and Air contingent sans Fire. The Minority in that Season was all Air. Literally.

And in South Pacific, Earth-Virgo natives ‘Coach’ and Ozzy were members of an unprecedented 72%-28% Majority.

Note: I habitually post first and edit later. So, it's taken me awhile to notice that my last remark about Stephenie's and Russell's 'luck' would benefit from a bit more context.

What I meant to say was that - whatever their level of success in the two of their three appearances in Seasons dominated by an Earth and Water Majority - in those Seasons the casting schemes dictated that they did not have a realistic - equal - opportunity to win the Game. And knowing that, I find it very hard to find fault in their 'failure' to win in Palau and Guatemala or in Samoa and Redemption Island. Heroes vs Villains - a Season that did offer all of its players a balanced social environment and therefore, in my opinion, a fair shot at becoming its Sole Survivor - is, however, a different matter. Added on 9/18/13 at 11:45 AM

Too:

As you can see, no original Majority has ever arrived at F10 in the Minority. And only five of twenty have arrived at that level in a tie with the Minority.

And through every – 160 – F10 to F3 Boots and Quits during the twenty Majority/Minority Seasons, original Majorities have lost their advantage to the Minority only six times. And have only been tied on a total of twelve occasions (including the five mentioned earlier).

So, here is our – new – Tribal Chart. And the odds are that someone on the left side of it will become the Sole Survivor of Blood vs Water. And that the F&A Tribe will arrive at F10 in the Majority. And that they will hold that advantage from F10 to F3 – Tribal Council by Tribal Council. It might be interesting to follow along.

And here is a chart of the Sun Signs’ performances focused on – only – the seven applicable completed F&A Majority Seasons.

And here is another gentle reminder:

Note: The beautiful Zodiac Signs I’ve used this Season are photographs by Sheila Terry. And , according to Fine Arts America’s attribution of them, they were taken of twelve inlaid marble panels decorating Bianchini’s Meridian Line in the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli in Rome. The artist who created the panels was Francesco Tedeschi who, in turn, based his work on the drawings of Jacobo de Gehn (published in 1603).

Breaking Surf is by the American Impressionist, Martha Walter (b. 1875 – d. 1976). It is from a collection of screensavers from Second Nature (no longer available online) that I purchased years ago and still enjoy very much.

"The Earth Signs"

KEYWORDS

Practical and Useful
Structured and Productive
Grounded and Sensual
Tactile and Dependable

The ‘Practical’ Earth Signs are grounded and dependable. All of the earthy metaphors are appropriate here: ‘Salt of the earth’, ‘Feet firmly planted on the ground’, ‘Solid as a rock’, etc. Often referred to as the ‘builders’ of the Zodiac, creativity is a tangible proposition to these natives and they feel best once they have accumulated a goodly number of worldly possessions. Blending in with their natural habitat – grounded – Earth Signs engage life through the five senses and as a result operate at a slower, more thorough, pace than do the natives of other Elements. Often intimately attuned to the dance of nature – most treasure their time spent outdoors – they are masters at assessing, assembling and organizing … things.

The Element of Earth also confers a sense of duty, responsibility and reliability to those in its sphere. Their gift to others is bringing form to ideas: often making them an excellent balancing partner for an idle dreamer with potential. They tend their own garden and inspire others to make the most of theirs. These are the people you can count on to ‘be there’ when you need them. Tending toward caution and conservatism in desire and approach, their logical minds and measured responses display an innate recuperative capacity: much preferring a sure thing, these folks do not take big risks. That said, however, certainly in that they appreciate a good meal, congenial company and fine wine better than anyone else, they are also sensualists.

On the flip side:

Earth Signs can become so caught up in their objectives that they overlook the feelings and opinions of others. And their single-minded focus on the tasks at hand make them vulnerable to the "all work and no play" eddy of life. It is a big picture, after all, but these natives may be more concerned with the finish line than with the journey they are taking. So, while Earth’s orientation toward the real and their need for tangible results in return for their labors can make them very productive, too much of those good things can be stifling to inspiration, faith and a sense of greater purpose. And the ever-present risk inherent in their acquisitive nature is that they may become greedy and far too materialistic.

THE CAPRICORN PROFILE

Positive Traits
Practical and Prudent
Ambitious and Disciplined
Self-Reliant and Persevering
Resourceful and Creative

Negative Traits
Pessimistic and Melancholy
Materialistic and Stern
Conventional and Rigid
Demanding and Cold

Capricorn is one of the most stable and serious of the Zodiac types and these rocklike characters have many sterling qualities. They are normally confident, strong-willed and calm. Born with a sense of purpose and an intense drive for achievement and excellence that never lets up, they are the major finishers of most projects begun by the 'pioneering' Signs. Capricorn exude a sense of being in charge. And they usually are. But, even in their pursuit of status and power, they rarely compromise their integrity to get there. These are the masters of the physical realm and are widely admired for what they’re able to accomplish.

However, while Capricorn have a great respect for authority, they may not be willing to listen to the opinions and suggestions of others. And as the ranking authority figure in a given situation they expect their underlings to be as self- disciplined as they themselves are and to perform every task undertaken to the highest standard. They are often humorless. And a fortress of defenses can keep the curious and insincere at bay in their lives. So that while to the world at large Capricorn often covey an image that is both intriguing and intimidating, those that pass the test of loyalty are allowed to see a more vulnerable side: at heart, these natives are interested in enduring ties and because they have a tendency to pessimism and melancholy that many of them are unable to keep to themselves – especially if they fail personally – Capricorn often look to family and longtime friends for emotional support.

And mood swings are not the only reason Capricorn deserve the adjective based on their name - capricious. They can be surprisingly and suddenly witty and subtle for the quiet, reserved individuals that they seem to be. But they also have a tendency to ruin things by unexpected and utterly irresponsible bouts of flippancy: their penchant for melancholy creates a unique filter for Capricorn humor that is known to veer toward the darkly absurd. Reference: Natalie of Micronesia and Corinne of Gabon

Additionally, Capricorn are very status-minded. Even if their immediate finances don't permit an extravagant lifestyle, the January-born can unconsciously adopt the mores, attitudes and mannerisms of the elite. The trappings of success are important to these natives not only for personal pleasure but also for the impression that they can make on others.

Romantically: Capricorn usually thrive as one half of a power couple. Their ideal partners are individuals who they can respect but who also allow them to take charge most of the time. Once happily settled, they’ll go about the business of building both an empire and a cozy home life.

THE VIRGO PROFILE

Positive Traits
Caring and Loyal
Meticulous and Discriminating
Practical and Organized
Clever and Analytical

Negative Traits
Fussy and a Worrier
Overcritical and Harsh
Perfectionist and Conservative
Negative and Unsocial

Those with Sun in Virgo are constantly on the move, always trying to fine-tune their lives and relationships. They are filled with nervous energy and a desire to make improvements, so they're serene only when they are fulfilling their meticulously planned steps toward a carefully chosen goal.

Virgo is the only Sun Sign represented by a female and it is sometimes thought of as a delicate young girl and sometimes as an intelligent, but rather pedantic and spinsterish, older woman. The latter impression is sometimes confirmed by the Virgo’s precision, refinement, fastidiousness, conventionality and aristocratic attitude of reserve. They are usually observant, shrewd, critically inclined, judicious, patient and practical.

Both sexes have considerable charm and dignity and in their unassuming, cheerful and agreeable fashion, they can be sensible, discreet, well-spoken, wise and witty. But while in many respects Virgo are the epitome of social grace and propriety, their sterling etiquette is more apt to be scripted than spontaneous: the result of careful thought and hours of mental practice.

Intellectually, Virgo is enquiring, methodical and logical, studious and teachable. They combine mental ingenuity with the ability to produce a clear analysis of the most complicated problems. Thoroughness, hard work and conscientiousness are their hallmarks. They have an excellent eye for detail but they may be so meticulous that they neglect larger issues. And, because of their ability to see every angle of a multi-faceted problem, they are as unhappy with abstract theories as they are with intractable philosophies: placing no confidence in either.

Moreover, for as much as his intellect aids analysis, it also abets the Virgo’s compulsion to criticize. Nothing escapes these perfectionists’ eyes. And in their scrutiny of incongruities, these natives leave no stone … nor anyone … unexamined: as critical, and unforgiving, of themselves as they are of others. So that they may bring the art of self-concealment to a high pitch (hiding their apprehensions about themselves and their often considerable sympathy with other people under the mantle of an undemonstrative clinician) with the result that they shrink from committing themselves to friendship, make few relationships, and are careful to keep those they do make superficial.

Virgos often feel compelled to serve others and can find respect in fields where attention to detail and a responsible attitude are rewarded. They are natural healers and are gifted at bringing an unhealthy situation back into balance. But they have to watch out for those who would take advantage of their natures and put them in subservient roles. Finding the courage to place the highest value on what they offer can take a lifetime for some Virgos.

So, given their qualities, Virgo are much more effective in subordinate rather than leadership positions. Responsibility irks them and they often lack the breadth of strategic vision that leadership requires. They are essentially tacticians and excel at the attainment of limited objectives: needing the stimuli of immediacy and prestige attendant to specialization.

Romantically Speaking: The self-contained nature of the Virgo (Virgin) Sun sometimes makes them all the more alluring: someone who will always be whole and complete unto themselves. And this can make them seem unattainable.

Once in a relationship, the Sun in Virgo finds comfort in the routines of daily life. A Virgo who has established a wholesome daily routine is far easier to live with than one that hasn't. And known as loners – there is a physical sensitivity associated with Virgo that could be called high maintenance – they will need plenty of “me” time to maintain their sense of self.

But, when they’ve found a worthy mate, they revel in the patterns and habits of togetherness and can begin to relax into the beauty of the familiar.

THE TAURUS PROFILE

Positive Traits
Patient and Loyal
Warmhearted and Loving
Persistent and Determined
Rooted and Sensuous

Negative Traits
Jealous and Possessive
Resentful and Inflexible
Self-indulgent and Greedy
Slow and Brooding

This Sign’s characteristics are solidity, practicality, extreme determination and strength of will - no one will ever drive Taurus, but they will willingly and loyally follow a leader they trust. They are stable, balanced, conservative and law-abiding citizens and lovers of peace (possessing all the best qualities of the bourgeoisie). They will do everything in their power to maintain the security of the status quo.

So, on rare occasions a Taurus may be an obstinately and exasperatingly self-righteous, unoriginal, rigid, ultraconservative, argumentative and querulous boor: stuck in a self-centered rut. And, whether their characters are positive or negative, they need someone to stroke their egos with a frequent, "Well Done!" Luckily, Taurus has a knack for attracting praise. It is amazing how people will bend over backwards to please them.

They are faithful and generous friends with a great capacity for affection. But Taurus rarely establish intimacies outside their social rank (to which they are ordinarily excessively loyal). And in the main, they are gentle, even-tempered, good-natured, modest and slow to anger. If they are provoked, however, they can explode into violent, uncontrolled outbursts. Lurking within every serene Taurus is the potential for a seething rage that re-establishes a sense of order by force. Equally unexpected are their occasional sallies into humor and exhibitions of fun.

Those with the Sun in Taurus can be the most down-to-Earth of the Signs, so naturally they revel in earthly pleasures. Taurus has a strong aesthetic taste. And allied to his appreciation of all things beautiful is a love for the good things of life: pleasure, comfort, luxury and good food and wine. Their sensuality is legendary, whether they’re cooking up a sumptuous feast or turning on their tantalizingly slow charm.

More firmly rooted in the physical world than the other Signs, Sun in Taurus can be as immovable as a mountain: it’s hard to get a Taurus to rush into anything and that can be frustrating to everyone else. But once they make a decision, it’s usually a sound one. And that same stubborn deliberateness keeps Taurus fixed on a goal long after others have given up. Moreover, these natives don’t like to be pushed around by what they consider flights of fancy. Changes in their surroundings or routines disturb their equilibrium. And if the change is too abrupt or fundamental to his comfort, the shock may be too much for the Bull. He may actually become physically ill.

Taurus are known as the “builders” of the Zodiac and in their work they are industrious and ambitious: unafraid of getting their hands dirty and at their best in routine positions of trust and responsibility where there is little need of urgency, little risk of change and a pension at the end. Yet they are creative and are also often founders of enterprises where the fruits are of their own labors.

Romantically Speaking: Taurus are motivated by a desire for material and emotional security and when they’ve found a suitable partner they’ll stay put where they are and carefully cultivate a stable, deeply rooted life. Respect them and allow them to take their sweet time doing things, and all will be well. On the down side, their reluctance to discard the familiar can sometimes cause Taurus to linger in a relationship that they’ve outgrown.

"The Water Signs"
Posted by Georjanna on 09-17-13 at 06:38 AM

KEYWORDS

Intuitive and Emotional
Imaginative and Nurturing
Secretive and Dreamy
Introverted

The ‘Emotional’ Water Signs are intuitive, sensitive and empathetic. How things feel is what matters to these nurturers and they base their actions on sense, rather than on logic or intellect. Attuned to waves of emotion, these natives have a built-in sonar for reading a mood that affords them a special sensitivity in relationships. Because the receptive talents of these individuals are so remarkably high, they seem to know when to show warmth and when to hold back. Compassionate and understanding, Water Sign natives are extraordinarily adept at assimilating the feelings of others, processing them and offering plans or solutions that will usually be considerate of all. So, at their best, they are a healing force that brings people together.

But, because Water natives are often assessing a situation by its undercurrents, they can seem aloof or even shy at first. And going forward in a relationship or situation often means being sure of their emotional ground: a kind of decision-making process that is baffling to more spontaneous or practical types. That's why those with this Sign are so quickly shaped by their relationships to others and often have to work harder than do the natives of other Elements to maintain their personal boundaries. They need time alone to remember where they end and others begin and to let what's been stirred up by the push and pull of life find its way to a quiet calm again. These are people who need people but who also need the restorative balm of solitude.

Water natives often translate their sense of the world artistically. Some find release from their own personal dramas when they're able to express them as universal. As writers, musicians and actors they help others make sense of the human experience. But this also happens in everyday life: Water Signs soften the blunt edges of the mundane by cushioning it with emotional meaning. They covet aesthetic beauty -- and for everyone to be happy as a result of it. However, much like still water can become stagnant, inactive Water Signs are not at their best. They feel most fulfilled when they are helping others, and they usually do so in enchanting ways.

Seeing things more clearly than others, and feeling them more acutely than do the natives of other Signs, they are frequently referred to as ‘psychic’. But these insights are easily clouded by the intensity of their feelings or altered by their vivid imaginations.

Also on the flip side of this fluid Element is the tendency of these individuals to brood. Susceptible to mood swings, at their worst they can become self-indulgent, controlling – able to manipulate and drain the emotions of those closest to them – and hostage to a fantasy world.

THE CANCER PROFILE
Positive Traits

Nurturing and Sensuous
Intuitive and Imaginative
Shrewd and Tenacious
Sensitive and Empathetic

Negative Traits
Changeable and Moody
Self-Absorbed and Clinging
Subjective and Clannish
Neurotic and Needy

Cancer’s emotions are as changeable as the Moon itself and their nature makes them something of an enigma, even to those closest to them. In fact, the Cancer temperament is a veritable kaleidoscope of waxing and waning feelings and during the course of a conversation, you may notice – passing fleetingly across the faces of July-born – scores of distinctively different emotions: no one ever repeated or expressed in exactly the same way. Quite simply, Cancer exude drama and these extraordinarily emotional individuals can sink into a mood and fully inhabit it, so that it seems to permeate the atmosphere around them. No other Sign has so pervasive an emotional aura as to either lift your spirits to ecstatic heights or to fill you with clouds of gloom, depending upon his mood.

Moreover, the Cancer imagination is so vivid that it’s like they’re watching home movies inside their heads. For them, every life experience can be replayed again and again and the same internal landscape revisited. This is the raw material for both creative genius and the tendency to get stuck in emotional eddies. These natives love to dream of far-away places and times past and will talk about historical events as if they were actually there. Most Cancer have a special reverence for the past, and if you ask them to tell you whom of all people they admire most, they'll most often rattle off the names of several prominent historical figures.

The idiom “home is where the heart is” has no greater ring of truth than when describing how the Cancer feels about his abode. Home is where he dreams, lives, plays and loves. And it is the only place he feels secure. But, because they're psychic sponges, they need plenty of space to unravel the little dramas of the day, or they’ll get cranky.

And Cancer has a tender heart. But you might not see it at first behind the cool exterior. However, once you’re allowed inside the circle of trust, you’ll start to know why they’re called the “Mother” of the Zodiac. Cancer is never truly happy unless they have someone or something to care for and their innate understanding of human emotion allows them to see through the pretenses of other Signs and lend encouragement, support or sympathy when needed. Both men and women of this Sign have an instinctive nurturing side that endears them to those they love and it is amazing to discover how many July-born have acquired the appendage – ‘good ol'– to their names. The Crab’s claws hold tight, though, and often they have trouble letting go of relationships and situations.

But there is a private, reclusive side to every Cancer. Because of their extreme emotional sensitivity, they fear ridicule and would rather retreat than defend themselves. And there is always lurking in the background of their personalities a foreboding of disaster. As if upon some hidden cue, the Crab can suddenly retreat into the watery burrows of his inner consciousness and not be seen for days. Try and question him about his absence and he'll probably not know what you're talking about.

However, if Cancer can reconcile the personal conflict of their urge to be outgoing with the reserve that causes them to withdraw into themselves, then at best they can inspire a generation, especially the youthful part of it, by their idealism. They also have a penchant for trade or business and are often successful as a captain of industry. This is because they are excellent organizers with a good sense of value and economy that they may combine with a flair for invention and originality.

Take Note: The stealth approach of Cancer often takes people by surprise, and many have been underestimated. They’ll protect their sensitivity by going after what they want indirectly, which can be seen as passive. But try to take advantage of their gentle nature, and you’ll soon be put in your place. Once crossed, the Cancer holds a grudge to infinity, so it’s hard to win back their trust.

Romantically Speaking: Above all, the Cancer needs a sense of belonging and an intimate home life. Once committed, they’ll prove to be the ultimate family man or woman, and likely never stray too far from the nest.

THE PISCES PROFILE

Positive Traits
Romantic and Sensitive
Compassionate and Idealistic
Imaginative and Unworldly
Intuitive and Creative

Negative Traits
Escapist and Self-Indulgent
Secretive and Vague
Weak-willed and Gullible
Impressionable and Overwhelmed

Pisceans are deservedly popular with all kinds of people in part because their easygoing, affectionate, malleable and submissive natures offer no threat or challenge to stronger and more exuberant characters. But they will not be able to maintain for very long friendships or associations with those who are too materialistic.

As the last of the twelve Zodiac Signs, Pisces is said to contain aspects of them all. This makes the Pisces Sun so changeable as to appear not to have one singular identity. It's as if they merely touch down in this human reality and remain only long enough to try on a few personas. Consequently, those with the Sun in Pisces can seem to be "somewhere else" half the time. And because their natures are often too otherworldly for practical purposes – they tend to exist emotionally rather than rationally and instinctively rather than intellectually – the nine-to-five life is not easy for them.

So it is important for these individuals to find a sense of purpose in order to avoid just drifting: their sensitivity makes them more vulnerable to escapism through addictions or personal dramas than are other Signs. The challenge to Pisces natives, then, is to somehow integrate their affinity with the more subtle planes into constructive working relationships. Fortunately, Pisceans are usually versatile and intuitive; quickly master new skills; observe and listen well; and are receptive to new ideas and atmospheres. And all these factors can combine to produce remarkable creativity in literature, music and art. This is the sign of the mystic poet, and a creative pursuit gives Pisces the motivation to be disciplined. And bringing structure to the vast imagination and shades of emotion flowing within the Pisces nature is a great achievement.

Similarly, in medicine and social work, Pisceans find an outlet for their empathy and mercy while their professional statures curb the likelihood of their being taken advantage of. And, if they're typical March-born, they are not elitists: saint, sinner, murderer, thief, liar, rich or poor - deserving or undeserving - the Piscean instinctively recognizes the worth of the individual and can overlook the apparent causes of their circumstances.

But the fact that the Pisces Sun leads with a compassionate heart can be both a blessing and a curse. Many are remarkably wise and self-sacrificing when it comes to helping the vulnerable or those down on their luck. But this noble trait can take them down a path of being used and abused before they learn to set strong boundaries and they are better working either by themselves or in subordinate positions. Most would be afraid to manage more than a small department, worrying always that they would fail in a crisis.

Romantically speaking: Pisces fare well with a guiding-hand type who understands the fluidity of their nature. And life with a Pisces means having a bridge to unseen worlds of the heart and imagination. Awesome!

THE SCORPIO PROFILE

Positive Traits
Determined and Forceful
Intense and Intuitive
Formidable and Passionate
Exciting and Magnetic

Negative Traits
Jealous and Vengeful
Compulsive and Obsessive
Secretive and Cunning
Manipulative and Obstinate

Scorpio are the most profound and powerful characters in the Zodiac. There is a harnessed aggression, an immense forcefulness, magnetic attraction and often strangely hypnotic quality in their tranquil, but watchful, composure that can be intimidating. An outer mask of cool control belies a vast and often turbulent psychic interior. In a word, the Scorpio is intense, and works best in a crucible of pressure and uphill challenges. Without a sense of purpose, the darker emotions can take hold and lead them down the paths of obsession, jealousy and worse.

In conventional social gatherings they are pleasant to be with, thoughtful in conversation, dignified, and reserved, yet affable and courteous. And in their everyday behavior they give the appearance of being withdrawn from the center of activity. Yet those who know them will recognize the ever-probing, ever-evaluating observation that is an integral component of their character. They intuitively take in everything around them and reveal very little in return. And don’t expect instant friendship here, as it takes time to win the trust of the wary Scorpio.

Scorpio are deeply sensitive and easily moved by their emotions. And that sensitivity, together with a propensity for extreme likes and dislikes, make them easily hurt: quick to detect or imagine insult or injury to themselves and easily aroused to ferocious anger. And because they relate to their fellows only as leaders, they can be blunt to those they dislike to the point of cruelty.

The Sun in Scorpio have a powerful drive to succeed and often have extracurricular activities that take it up a notch. They’re great competitors because of their built-in radar for the weaknesses of the opponent. They’ll remain calm until the exact moment when a targeted attack will do the most damage. That’s why in relationships of any kind they are a formidable enemy if betrayed.

Fortunate that their strong reasoning powers are tempered with imagination and intuition and that these gifts are usually accompanied by critical perception and analytical capacity, Scorpio often find fulfillment in the ice-cold self-control and detachment of the surgeon or soldier and the concentration of the research scientist. And any profession in which investigation and analysis are relevant may attract these charismatic "twice-born" characters. They may also become masters of the written and spoken word. This Sun Sign includes among its natives more geniuses than does any other.

At the other extreme is the procrastinator: the man or woman who is capable of so much that they do nothing and become indolent and self-indulgent: requiring extravagant praise and flattery from those whom they make their cronies.

Romantically Speaking: Those in a relationship with a Scorpio need to be strong-willed in order to keep from being controlled by their undertow. And never try to hide anything from them because they’ll quickly “read” it on your face. Moreover, Scorpio have earned a reputation for being highly sexual and need an amorous outlet for all that emotional intensity. However, to those few allowed into their private worlds they are fiercely loyal and their enveloping sensuality usually makes all the drama worth it.

"The Fire Signs"
Posted by Georjanna on 09-17-13 at 06:41 AM

KEYWORDS
Spontaneous and Energetic
Gregarious and Passionate
Self-centered and Dramatic
Instinctual and Visionary

The ‘Physical’ Fire Signs have a simmering at-the-ready stance and are prone to sudden illuminating flashes of insight and bursts of enthusiasm. There is about them a warm radiance, a trust in life's journey and a willingness to take risks. Infused with an emotional energy that can spread like wildfire to everyone around them, they sense a golden thread of destiny and potential running through their own lives and are often able to lead others to their own. But, it is important for them to have cheerleaders to fan the flames of their interests.

A Fire Sign is also an indicator of creativity. This Element manifests itself in unique ways, and those in its glow are usually wonderfully courageous, lively spirits: self-sufficient, spontaneous and possessing a tremendous zest for life. Strong, self-assured and fun, they're great catalysts for play and have a knack for unearthing the spontaneous side of those around them.

Fire Signs act on instinct or "sixth sense," and that can make them look reckless to more cautious types. However, they're actually following a powerful intuition that keeps them at the leading edge of fresh experiences. But, although going on faith often gets them far, they have a tendency to skip crucial steps and to be unaware of the emotional impact of their actions on others. And because they are so very passionate about life and like to live large, Fire Signs often feel frustrated by mundane chores and duties. Too, Fire natives can be overly strident in getting their way. Call it bossy, even. These folks can come across rather forcefully. Selfishness and an overdeveloped ego can also be seen as part of a fiery individual's shadowy side.

THE ARIES PROFILE

Positive Traits
Adventurous and Confident
Pioneering and Courageous
Enthusiastic and Straight-Forward
Dynamic and Quick-witted

Negative Traits
Selfish and Dominating
Impulsive and Insensitive
Foolhardy and Quick-Tempered
Willful and Ruthless

Adventurous, ambitious, impulsive, enthusiastic and full of energy, Aries is a trailblazer: open to new ideas and a lover of freedom. These individuals welcome opposition and will not be diverted from their purposes except by their own impatience or boredom. Gifted with a direct, fiery nature that puts them one step ahead of the crowd, the childlike enthusiasm of these entrepreneurs and revolutionaries is infectious, and their ability to rouse others' interest in a project or cause is unparalleled. They’ll often take charge of a situation and their sense of certainty usually makes others fall in line. But the Mars-ruled are initiators -- not perpetuators.

Often larger-than-life, they can light up a room with their charisma: they’re among the ones with the stamina to party ‘til dawn. But if a gathering, project or relationship begins to be dull they’ll quickly move on. The Sun in Aries craves excitement and their restless spirits are in constant pursuit of the next ‘big thing’.

Because their approach to life is somewhat simplistic, what Aries can accomplish without a lot of distracting nuances and complexities to slow him down is staggering. Don't, however, put them in a position where they'll have to deal with complicated emotions or with a problem requiring delicate handling or subtlety. They're simply not equipped for it.

And, much concerned with personal advancement and physical satisfaction (self-reliant but also self-centered), Aries do not work well under authority unless they, too, have subordinates. In fact, they may be too self-sufficient and proud to acknowledge they have a boss and often take matters into their own hands (disregarding authority absolutely). Ask an Aries how many times he's been fired, and he'll probably tell you more than once. And that is probably because, most of all, Aries – propelled by an inner drive that is a force to be reckoned with – wants to achieve great things and at times their rush to accomplish them can cause them to take unnecessary risks or to forge ahead without planning out crucial details. Some say the Sun in Aries learns the hard way: by leaping before looking. But, being an active Sign, the Aries does learn best through experience.

In personal relationships Aries are frank, direct and candid: gregarious and generous friends. However, their immense energy can also make them aggressive and restless, argumentative, headstrong, quick-tempered and easily offended: of all the Zodiac’s natives, an Aries will most readily haul off and punch a nose.

And while an Aries is not the least bit calculating (in most instances, he'll simply tell it like it is before he's had a chance to think about the consequences), he does crave admiration and praise. So that while he won’t usually lie (in contradiction of his straightforward nature), he'll often exaggerate the truth in his own favor or simply in order to stamp it with his individuality.

Intellectually, Aries are quick-witted, usually objective, and inspirationally optimistic: irreplaceable champions of lost causes and last-ditch stands. But they can also become extremists: foolhardy and dogmatic zealots whose enormous talents and vibrant personalities become a hindrance (if not a threat) to the welfare of the society in which they move.

Romantically Speaking: Aries is the Sign of the Warrior and sometimes they go too far and wound those they love with hurtful words spoken in the heat of an argument. They quickly forgive and forget, but they often have to deal with the fallout of their brusque demeanor. Moreover, these natives have minds that filter out the non-essentials and it is their clear sight that helps them make such rapid progress in life: so, once fixed on a goal, they’ll move forward with a single-minded determination that threatens to leave those close to them in the dust. But if you’re a match for such an amped-up spirit, you’ll never forget being pulled along by the power of this dynamic personality.

THE SAGITTARIUS PROFILE

Positive Traits
Optimistic and Freedom-loving
Curious and Sporting
Good-humored and Straightforward
Expansive and Philosophical

Negative Traits
Blindly-optimistic and Careless
Irresponsible and Superficial
Flippant and Promiscuous
Tactless and Restless

Sagittarius have a positive outlook on life and are full of enterprise, energy, versatility and adventure: eager to extend experience beyond the physically familiar. They delight in travel and exploration: Sagittarius are genuinely intrigued by foreign cultures and even when their finances preclude traipsing the globe Sagittarius travel in their minds. And their bright, cheerful demeanors can be disarming. It’s an uncomplicated style that invites you to drop your defenses, too, and just “be.” This makes for a fun friend who knows all the best ethnic restaurants and will be more than happy to stay out ‘til the wee hours.

Ambitious and optimistic (even when their hopes are dashed), their strongly idealistic natures are able to withstand disappointments without being affected. They are usually honorable, honest, trustworthy, truthful, generous and sincere (with a passion for justice). They are characteristically on the side of the underdog and are prepared to be rebellious.

Non-conformists, Sagittarius hate being bound to rigid social confines or pigeonholed into strict routines that don't give them plenty of breathing room. Even more than physical restrictions, they'll loathe mental confinement. Sagittarius have both profound and broad minds: equipped with foresight, good judgment and keen intuition. As a result, they are often fascinating conversationalists and correspondents. Think Mark Twain. Think Sagittarius.

Known, too, for their spontaneous philosophical ramblings, these natives don’t seem to get bogged down in emotional complexities. So those who love them may wish for more depth: more feeling. And there are times when they are shockingly blunt. It’s unnerving to be the target of a direct hit.. But that same tactless personality can be a beacon of light in confusing times. Leave it to a Sagittarius to step into a messy tangle and sum up the situation with blinding clarity. They’ll be willing to speak the truth when all others hide in confusion. This makes them invaluable friends who can guide you back to a clear path when you need honesty rather than enabling.

And in a curious twist of fate, Sagittarius, who are often accused of clumsiness, are also credited with extraordinary grace and coordination when engaged in purposeful physical activity: most particularly sports and dance. In everyday activities, however, the Sagittarian can be surprisingly less dignified. Though the December-born athlete may break the record for high jump, he'll stumble over his shoelaces walking onto the field.

Sagittarius are much more adept at adapting than inventing and are at their best when working with colleagues whose talents compliment, rather than compete with, their own. But Sagittarius can sometimes be exacting, domineering and inconsiderate in the work place: scorning the inadequacies of others while expecting fulsome recognition of their own skills and effort. Moreover, they can be (and frequently are) impulsively angry. And, when angry, both male and female Sagittarians can be vicious: employing with precision those words or actions that will most severely wound their adversary. On the other hand, they are magnanimous in forgiving offenses and quick to make amends for their own intemperance.

Romantically Speaking: The same notable physicality that attracts Sagittarius to vigorous athletics and bold travel-adventures often extends to their intimate relationships and their flexible, lusty, anything-goes attitude can cause them to take a walk on the wild side. So, the ideal partner for them is above all a friend and a partner in life’s great adventure who understands the needs of a true free spirit. However, more apt then the average to make an uncongenial alliance, their innate restlessness (which, if excessive, often jeopardizes more than their own stability) will often compel them to use even the most satisfying ménage as a base from which to … depart.

THE LEO PROFILE

Positive Traits
Generous and Affectionate
Exuberant and Colorful
Broadminded and Theatrical
Proud and Vivacious

Negative Traits
Pompous and Patronizing
Overbearing and Provocative
Dogmatic and Intolerant
Selfish and Egotistical

At first, it’s hard not to like those with the Sun in Leo with their open hearted, friendly ways. They often enter a room as a radiant presence that causes everyone to take notice, and are skilled at “working” a crowd for best effect. As a friend, they have a gift for mining your buried dream, polishing it to a shine again, and making anything seem possible. And there is a public confidence with the Leo Sun that affords them free reign to fully express their creative and social selves. Whether they end up in civil service or on a Broadway stage, chances are they’ll have an audience. When standing proudly before adoring fans (or co-workers), they project a warmth that has a palpable power to win hearts and minds.

However, even after they discover that they've been duped or abandoned, most Leos are too big about it – or too proud – to retaliate. Because they are usually incapable of actions that are in any way mean, base or underhanded, they have difficulty in recognizing those traits in others. In activities where these lower qualities are essential for success, the majority of Leo tend not to succeed.

And because they see a project in its grandest perspective, Leo natives have a disdain for details: their chief attribute in any group situation is the unique capacity for the overall manipulation of resources to produce a desired result. So it is not surprising that more wealth is found under Leo than under any other Sun Sign.

On the whole they are powers for good, for they are strongly idealistic, humane, and beneficent. They have a powerful intelligence and are of a broad philosophical, sometimes religious, turn of mind. Those who are devout may be very obstinate in upholding traditional beliefs and will cling tenaciously, but with complete sincerity, to practices and doctrines that liberal thinkers regard as absurdly out-of-date.

However, a Leo’s faults can be as large in scale as are his virtues and an excessively negative Leo can be a very unpleasant human being. These Leos will not hesitate to use cunning, lies and trickery to discredit their adversaries. Narcissism, greed for flattery, bombast, pomposity and snobbish superiority can also be characteristic of Leo.

Romantically Speaking; The Sun in Leo has a hard time with the mundane, and will be drawn to colorful careers and dramatic relationships. While some people shrink at the idea of dating around, the Leo considers romance a grand game. And it’s not unusual for these natives to play more than one game at a time.

Too, after getting to know a Leo, you’ll discover that they’re very loyal: to themselves. You can come up against severe resistance if you try to bend the will of a Leo for the sake of a relationship. Their reputation for being ‘diva-difficult’ is well-earned. But, because so many of them grab the gusto and achieve their lofty goals, in the end their stubborn self-regard usually elicits widespread respect.

"The Air Signs"
Posted by Georjanna on 09-17-13 at 06:44 AM

KEYWORDS
Intellectual and Innovative
Conceptual and Analytical
Curious and Social
Cerebral and Detached

The gift of Air is flexibility and its natives’ ability to experience life through many prisms. Air Signs use their minds to make sense of their lives and for them there is more space between the life lived and the observing mind than is so with other Signs. So, to others, these individuals can appear detached, aloof, remote and cool: they’ll often attempt to talk their way through feelings – or to analyze a situation – rather than deal with the full emotional weight of the moment. Critical thinkers who handle abstract reasoning well, the ‘Intellectual’ Air Signs love to probe and synthesize. Have a dilemma? Hand it over to an Air Sign and watch them go to work.

And the distance between these masters of cultural navigation and their own emotions can be refreshing. These are extremely social creatures – their curiosity keeps them ever- mingling – and their currency is their ability to link diverse social groups or individuals with their often extraordinary collections of ideas, obscure facts, gossip and knowledge. Drawn to words, many Air natives become professional storytellers, interpreters and journalists who provide the rest of us with astute commentary on the cultural trends, social attitudes and political consciousness of our times. Others of them – especially Aquarius – have a more conceptual way of thinking. Almost without exception, however, all of these alert, curious and perceptive individuals are very communicative and the world as seen by an Air Sign will be an interesting one – as their analysis and subsequent explanation (hopefully in terms we can understand) will indicate. Talking with an inspired Air Sign can be like skipping through a kind of virtual reality full of detail, specificity and local color.

Moreover, the Element usually manifests itself in a most humane way: objective, cooperative, unprejudiced (and often highly idealistic), most actually do ‘want to help make a better world’. And, leading with their heads, these observers of the human scene are the ‘idea’ people who, from their loftier viewpoint, are often able to offer it a fresh perspective of its problems and an innate clarity of vision that is rare among the natives of other Signs.

However, these inventive and clever individuals will insist upon considering all sides of an equation before they decide on a course of action. And, because Air Signs are especially vulnerable to the excesses of our mind-body split, balance is of paramount importance to them. So that while Air natives are usually calm and collected, they can – and frequently do – turn bitterly cold if their equilibrium is upset.

A word to the wise: there's little upside to baiting an Air Sign!

THE LIBRA PROFILE

Positive Traits
Diplomatic and Urbane
Romantic and Charming
Easy-going and Sociable
Idealistic and Fair-minded

Negative Traits
Indecisive and Changeable
Gullible and Easily-influenced
Flirtatious and Self-indulgent
Passive and Co-dependent

Ruled by the planet Venus, Libra are the very personification of refinement and affection, endearing you with their genteel manner and melting your heart with their ingratiating smiles. Those with the Sun in Libra have an easy grace and charm that is truly enviable. Many have soothing voices that are easy on the ears. And they love to talk. They’re at their very best when their gift for communication is put to a high-minded purpose, and, noted for their ability to harmonize conflicted situations – the Libra personality attracts the revelations, confidences, gossip and trust of others like a magnet – they thrive in calm, aesthetically pleasing environments. But don't let all that sugar and spice fool you. Libra are easily upset by the chaos of life and then the October-born can be as quarrelsome, as irritable and as intractable as any Sign in the Zodiac.

These are very social human beings. It’s difficult – even unnatural – for Libra to “go it alone”. More than any other Sign, they function best in “people” environments. At a party, you’ll find that Libra is the one playing host or hostess – no matter whose house it is – and looking fabulously at ease: they have a very artful way of serving cocktails and scintillating ideas with equal aplomb. Libra loathe cruelty, viciousness and vulgarity. And they detest overt conflict. So they do their best to cooperate and compromise with everyone around them. Their ideal for their own circle (and for society as a whole) is unity. And their cast of mind is artistic rather than intellectual: many Libra are drawn to creative fields, since their eye for beauty is often quite refined.

Libra is symbolized by the Scales of Balance, and just as a set of scales will teeter back and forth before achieving a new balance, Libra will vacillate to and fro between extremes: mental, emotional or physical. When the Libra does make a decision, however, you can probably bank on its integrity. The polar opposite of subjective Aries, the Libra is quite capable of objective judgment: irrespective of his own tastes, mores, philosophies or preferences. And even though Libra take a lot of heat for being indecisive, they make up for it with an idealism that has the power to change their world. Perhaps this is why there are more judges born under Libra than under any other Sun Sign and why the Scales have come to represent our system of justice.

However, once they have reached a conclusion Libra will not tolerate a divergent opinion: among their faults is an impatience of criticism and a greed for approval. Moreover, the negative Libra character may show frivolity, flirtatiousness and shallowness. It can be changeable and indecisive, impatient of routine, colorlessly conventional and timid, easygoing to the point of inertia and inappropriately docile: yet Libra can shock everyone around them with sudden, and inexplicable, storms of rage.

The Libra flair for tact and diplomacy is unparalleled in the Zodiac. And in business and diplomatic relations, the Libra is able (far more often than not) to accomplish what he desires without destroying relationships that could be valuable to him in the future. Great venture partners, they relish bouncing ideas off other people and eagerly contribute their talents to committed teams. But the ease with which they pursue any argument can sometimes make you wonder where the Libra really stands. Nothing irritates these natives' harmonizing intellect more than one-dimensional thinking. So, if they think your line of reasoning is too pat or simplistic, they'll purposely take the opposing view.

And while 'Lazy Libra' is a common phrase - the same languid style that puts everyone in a relaxed mood can lead to self-indulgence and a passive attitude toward life – those who would casually ascribe laziness to the October-born have never seen them in their more productive mode. Once they have committed themselves to a goal, Libra can become powerhouses: using their well-ordered intellects to accomplish in leaps and bounds tasks that might encumber other Signs. The trouble is that in planning any endeavor they can get so lost in the endless labyrinth of strategies, factors and options which have to be weighed and evaluated by their logical minds that Libra’s procrastination can give you the best portrayal of laziness you've ever seen.

Romantically Speaking: The Sun in Libra has a natural gift for being the ideal in the eyes of their beloved. And that is because they’re so instinctively aware of what it is the other wants and needs them to be. So, while some Libras end up losing their sense of self in the process, a more romantic, devoted partner is hard to find.

THE GEMINI PROFILE

Positive Traits
Adaptable and Versatile
Eloquent and Witty
Intellectual and Engaging
Charming, Youthful and Lively

Negative Traits
Nervous and Restless
Superficial and Inconsistent
Cunning and Duplicitous
Rumor-Mongering

Gemini, the Sign of the Twins, is dual-natured, elusive, complex and contradictory. To them, life is a game that must always be full of fresh moves and continuous entertainment and free of labor and routine. Charmers and clowns, they often wear a silly grin that seems to say that they get the cosmic joke that all is, after all, well: it’s really okay to sample everything from the smorgasbord of life. And, since they’re always finding something absurd to giggle over, you might hear the laughter of Gemini Suns before you see them. They’re great wits and their interest in people often thrusts them into the role of social ice breaker.

Their good qualities are attractive and come easily to them. They are affectionate, courteous, kind, generous, and thoughtful - provided none of the activities resulting from expressing these traits interferes too greatly with their own lives and comforts. And in social situations, even at their worst they are never dull - there is usually playfulness below the surface and they can be exhilarating conversationalists. However, often referred to as the dilettante of the Zodiac because they’ll try anything once and usually do, the Gemini needs to be able to reinvent himself many times and to follow the threads of inspiration wherever they lead. And that innate quality can make these natives seem restless and inconsistent. So, although Gemini may be hard to pin down and a bit challenging to deal with, if you can accept the shape-shifting nature of their personalities, they make excellent friends.

But be warned that like chameleons, they absorb and reflect every change in their environment and can become pessimistic, sullen, peevish and self-centered prattlers, boasters, liars and cheats if circumstances force them to struggle in any way.

Gemini have a keen and intuitive intelligence. They love cerebral challenges and though they dislike the labor of learning, their mental agility, energy and insatiable curiosity afford them a voracious appetite for knowledge. Many Gemini become veritable walking encyclopedias. And if a Gemini finds a subject worthy of his incredible kaleidoscopic mind, these individuals have the capacity to become masters of an art or science.

So, although their intellect is strongly analytical and sometimes gives them so great an ability to see both sides of a question that they vacillate and find it hard to make decisions, their cleverness and ingenuity may also very well be used to control and unify the duality of their natures into a most efficient unit. If faced with difficulties, they have little determination to worry at a problem until they find a solution - they will pick the brains of others.

Any work that combines quick-wittedness with a change of surroundings suits Gemini. They are often skilled manipulators of language and are usually very successful diplomats, academics, authors, poets, journalists and lawyers (albeit they are more brilliant than profound and more interested in theory than in practice). And any and every sales venue is, of course, sweet home to them.

Romantically Speaking: The Gemini knows that the world is vast and full of endless fascinations to explore and so they need an intellectual rapport with their mate. The ideal companions for them are individuals who think at their same speed of light. They need a certain kind of space to grow, and those who do manage to stay close to Gemini don’t try to hold on too tightly. Because, if the door of a relationship is open for them to come and go at will, they’ll usually, over time, prove their own brand of faithfulness.

THE AQUARIUS PROFILE

Positive Traits
Friendly and Humanitarian
Progressive and Pioneering
Original and Inventive
Eccentric, Independent and Intellectual

Negative Traits
Intractable and Dogmatic
Perverse and Unpredictable
Unemotional and Detached
Isolated

The Sun in Aquarius has been called the “rebel” of the Zodiac because of their total commitment to their unique vision. They’re uncompromisingly anchored in their own lives and grant that same autonomy to others. And, because Aquarius instinctively appreciate diversity and have a sustaining confidence in their own convictions, they are extremely tolerant of the behaviors and opinions of others. So, with an innate sense that everyone should “do their own thing”, Aquarius often seem to be detached – and friendly – at the same time.

Noted for their altruistic and progressive natures, Aquarius possess strong-willed, forceful and attractive personalities that present themselves as one or the other of two core types: the first shy, sensitive, gentle and patient; the second exuberant, lively and exhibitionist. Both types are humane, frank, serious-minded, genial, refined and often ethereal and idealistic. The last quality, however, is tempered with a sensible practicality.

So, while the Aquarian nature is known as eccentric, that is only because it follows that personal golden thread of inspiration to the limits. Another name for this could be genius, since it pushes out into the road less traveled and then goes yet further. And while this sometimes leads to great achievement, there’s always a chance that it can also lead to isolation. However, quick, active and persevering (usually interacting with others with reason, moderation and good humor), the native’s distain for the status quo – unlike the social activism of Sagittarius or the overt revolt of Aries – is most usually held in check by a quiet optimism: that things, given time and patient crusade, will improve. Rather, his more subtle rebellion most usually manifests itself in unconventional dress or grooming, erratic behaviors and wry (devastating) sarcasm.

Too, despite the magnetic, forthcoming and open personality of the extrovert Aquarius and the humanistic traits of both types, neither makes friends readily. They do not give themselves easily - perhaps their judgment of human nature is too good for that - and are sometimes accounted condescending and cold. Even in the intimate companionship that they instinctively seek, they are fiercely independent. They dislike interference by others, however helpfully intended, and will accept it only on their own terms. But once they decide that another is worthy of their friendship, Aquarius are tenacious and extraordinarily loyal compatriots. However, if they are deceived their anger is terrible. And if disillusioned (usually because their own idealism causes them to demand more of others than is reasonable) Aquarius do not forgive.

Aquarius work most effectively within a group environment provided that they are recognized as having a leading role in the project. They’re tuned into a different frequency, and have a vast mindscape that seems to make them self-sufficient. In other words, they’re happy to spend time alone. Yet as a sign of paradoxes, the Aquarius is also drawn to groups and “communities.” Able to quickly identify the undercurrents of gatherings, they are adept at helping people act together to accomplish a goal. They’re usually at the forefront of a cause: often before it becomes safe or fashionable.

Aquarius have a feeling of unity with nature and a desire for knowledge and truth that makes them admirable scientists: most especially astronomers and natural historians. These are the ones with a faraway look, most likely thinking brilliant and futuristic thoughts. Their minds seem to roam the outer edges of what is possible, and many of them make the impossible a reality as pioneers in science and technology. And their quirky, wholly original take on life gives them an edge should they venture into the Arts. The Aquarius talent for mimicry and parody serves them well as character actors or comedians. Their avant-garde tendencies are often expressed in writing (most usually poetry), public service broadcasting and musical innovation. And their altruism may find its voice in welfare fields or education.

Romantically Speaking: The Aquarius remains a sovereign being who needs an intellectual rapport to sustain a romance. An ideal mate inhabits a parallel universe and from it is able to accept the physical and mental distances that the Aquarius personality imposes. And it is often very surprising to see how much love can grow in the space between two people.

"RE: Signs of Survival - Blood vs Water"

LAST EDITED ON 10-06-13 AT 01:50 AM (EST)

Hello!

This is the first of what I intend to be regular updates of my own impressions of the behaviors and interactions of Blood vs Water’s personalities. And I hope that you’ll drop off your notes or novellas on the subject each week or so too. No licenses, credentials, subpoenas or immunities are required and profiling is actually encouraged by the management.

Of course, you can begin and end wherever - and with whatever - you choose. You have the run of the house. But I’m going to start with a revised chart of the make-believe tribes of Tadhana and Galang whose are-not, never-were and won’t-ever-be status tells the tale of just how quickly – within minutes, really – Survivor: Blood vs Water foreswore its tortured acquaintance with the bromide and became, instead, Survivor: For Love or Money?

In other words, we now have Survivor just as it has come to be. Except, of course, that, for this Season, the working assumptions seem to have been that each of the individuals within its pairs would be acutely aware of the fact that the two of them had to go home – together – when the Game ended and that the Redemption/Redeemer scheme would make tribal membership so fractured – and fractious – that there would be little opportunity for esprit de corps to rear its ugly head.

Honestly?

I think that all of those elements – and, most importantly, the surprise – were probably necessary if the Season was to be a success. And I think that it will be. I only wish that it was possible to repeat the surprise.

But, here’s the chart and, with it, the chart of the Signs’ performances in F&A-dominant Seasons. I’ll be back on the other side.

So, the Virgo, Laura, is gone to Galang and that was not, I think, a good thing for anyone at Tadhana. Especially its young women.

Virgo are detail-driven, goal-oriented – natural – organizers and task-masters. And, the natural leadership at Tadhana – Katie, Ciera and Rachel – is not only young, female and now outnumbered, it is also, as I noted earlier, Leo and Cancer: the two familial Superior Signs whose styles are usually more influential than authoritative. And an ‘observant, shrewd, critically inclined, judicious, patient and practical’ tribemate/ally is always a valuable asset. For instance: Ian (to Tom), Yau-Man (to Earl), Becky (to Yul), Coach (to JT), Parvati (to Sandra), etc.

From the Sign’s Profile: "Those with Sun in Virgo are constantly on the move, always trying to fine-tune their lives and relationships. They are filled with nervous energy and a desire to make improvements, so they're serene only when they are fulfilling their meticulously planned steps toward a carefully chosen goal."

And all of that is why I really hate to see a tribe expel a Virgo. Even if you get away with it – even if it results in no lasting harm to the tribe – it’s still …. stupid! Unless the Virgo is Judd. Or Rocky. Or Jean-Robert. Or Jasmine.

Note: If I were playing the Game, I would introduce the first available Aquarius (for his strategic brilliance) to the nearest Virgo (for her painstaking execution of brilliance). And then I would introduce those two to the Season's most gung-ho Aries (for his infectious passion for gameplay). And then I would introcuce the three of them to the most pleasant, industrious Taurus in the cast (for her amazing knack for the identification/invention and provision of creature comforts).

And then I would beg the four to take me along for the ride.

Hey! I’m a totally committed vote, a terrific cheerleader and I eat very little.

Complicit in Laura’s and Marissa’s boots, it would seem (if rumor does have it) that Katie (Cancer) and Ciera (Leo) are going to, at least, witness – if not acquiesce to – Rachel’s (Leo) departure from Tadhana. But I hope that one – I would think, more probably, the skeptical, intuitive Cancer – or both of the two (with Rachel) offer some resistance to the men’s simplistic (but highly effective) women-last-to-the-lifeboats plot.

And whether or not it is successful at this vote, I hope that what the women – or one or two of the men – try to sell is the notion that it makes no sense for Tadhana natives to infuriate any more pairs than they already have - Laura/Rupert and Marissa/Gervase - by voting off Tyson’s, or Tina’s, or Laura M’s – or for that matter, Monica’s, Kat’s, Colton’s or Aras’ – partner in the Game. Candice is already a pissed-off resident of Redemption Island and John is more than just handy: he is also a very real threat to become the Season’s Sole Survivor.

ETA: My last comment - 'he is also a very real threat to become the Season’s Sole Survivor' - was meant to convey my assumptions regarding his tribemates' in-game assessment of John's 'threat' to win the Game - not the reality of it. John is a Taurus. And that Sun Sign's F4 to F1 track record is abysmal. Moreover, he was a Taurus - an Earth native - appearing in a F&A-dominant Season of Survivor. So, as a practical matter, his chances of becoming its Sole Survivor were next to - nil.

Partners in the crime?

Well, I think that the two Aries, Vytas and Hayden, are much more likely to embrace (or initiate) a strategy that upsets an applecart than is the Libra, Caleb. Libra very much appreciate the calm of a status quo and usually won’t challenge it unless there is a very good chance that there will be little commotion attached to the effort and a very great chance of its success. Libra are not risk takers.

They are, however, high-stakes poker players if the odds are right. And they make it their business to know the odds.

Here are brief excerpts from the two Profiles. I think that they are particularly interesting given the relationship between Vytas (the Aries) and his brother (a Libra). And I hope that you’ve considered that I keep linking Profiles because they are so much more informative if you read – all – of them.

Aries

Positive Traits
Adventurous and Confident
Pioneering and Courageous
Enthusiastic and Straight-Forward
Dynamic and Quick-witted

Negative Traits
Selfish and Dominating
Impulsive and Insensitive
Foolhardy and Quick-Tempered
Willful and Ruthless

"Adventurous, ambitious, impulsive, enthusiastic and full of energy, Aries welcome opposition and will not be diverted except by their own impatience or boredom. Gifted with a direct, fiery nature, their ability to rouse others' interest in a project or cause is unparalleled. But Aries are initiators -- not perpetuators. And don't put them in a position where they'll have to deal with complicated emotions or with a problem requiring delicate handling or subtlety. They're simply not equipped for it.

In personal relationships Aries are frank, direct and candid: gregarious and generous friends. However, their immense energy can also make them aggressive and restless, argumentative, headstrong, quick-tempered and easily offended: of all the Zodiac’s natives, an Aries will most readily haul off and punch a nose."

Libra

Positive Traits
Diplomatic and Urbane
Romantic and Charming
Easy-going and Sociable
Idealistic and Fair-minded

Negative Traits
Indecisive and Changeable
Gullible and Easily-influenced
Flirtatious and Self-indulgent
Passive and Co-dependent

"Libra are at their very best when their gift for communication is put to a high-minded purpose, and, noted for their ability to harmonize conflicted situations.

Libra loathe cruelty, viciousness and vulgarity. And they detest overt conflict. So they do their best to cooperate and compromise with everyone around them. Yet Libra can shock with sudden, and inexplicable, storms of rage.

The Libra flair for tact and diplomacy is unparalleled in the Zodiac. But the ease with which they pursue any argument can sometimes make you wonder where the Libra really stands.

And while 'Lazy Libra' is a common phrase, once they have committed themselves to a goal, Libra can become powerhouses: using their well-ordered intellects to accomplish in leaps and bounds tasks that might encumber other Signs."

So that brings us to the two Tadhana who I think are the least likely of its men to deviate from the alliance’s strategy: The Bulls (Taurus), Brad and John. And to know why, you have to begin by knowing, as John seems to and Brad does not, that Taurus are - despite an abundance of good will, hard work and enviable ambition – not leaders. In fact, it is the sad fact that Taurus are just, in so many ways, much too fundamentally decent and ordinary for this Game.

They love their homes and adore their families. The devotion to their wives that Brad and John have demonstrated is very probably the real thing. And because they treasure their own comfort and well-being – and that of others – they often step into leadership voids to provide much-needed stability, direction and labor. Taurus believe in earning their reward. But in Survivor, sweat equity is not necessarily valued.

However, because they do so much that needs to be done – and do it so well – it is certainly understandable why Taurus often think of themselves as leaders. And indeed, as their Profile indicates, “Taurus are known as the ‘builders’ of the Zodiac: unafraid of getting their hands dirty."

They are also stubborn and “changes in their surroundings or routines disturb their equilibrium. And if the change is too abrupt or fundamental to his comfort, a Taurus may actually become physically ill.

They are faithful and generous friends. Their sensuality is legendary, whether they’re cooking up a sumptuous feast or turning on their tantalizingly slow charm. But Taurus rarely establish intimacies outside their social rank (to which they are ordinarily excessively loyal). In the main, they are gentle, even-tempered, good-natured, modest and slow to anger. If they are provoked, however, they can explode into violent, uncontrolled outbursts.”

In short: Taurus, like Libra, are not risk takers. And, in fact, the judicious exercise of their strength (in numbers) is so logical to them that they would, I think, find it difficult to understand why any of the other Tadhana males would even think of disrupting the alliance. It did, after all, take Taurus nineteen Seasons to win the Game. And then, it was a woman who finally accomplished the feat.

Wow! It is getting uncomfortably close to show time and I haven’t even begun to talk about Galang. But I do want to briefly address two things (and I’ll begin with veterans next week.

1. I hope that we’ll get to see more of the dynamics at Galang this week. And because I think that both would benefit enormously from cooperation between them, I’m particularly interested in the course that Tina’s (Capricorn) in-game relationship with Laura Boneham (Virgo) takes.

2. In my opening post to this thread last week, I talked about the difficulties and disconnects that make Survivor so very hard for Gemini to play. Like Taurus – persistently at the bottom of all of the measurements of the Signs’ performances within the Game – it took Gemini even longer - twenty-one Seasons – to win the Game. I quoted from the Gemini Profile, in part:

But Jud Birza’s win sure did!’

And then, of course, I watched the show and there were Monica and Tyson behaving thoughtfully, helpfully … calmly.

Perhaps it is the reassurance of the presence in the Game of people close to them that has improved their ability to overcome the discomfort that Survivor's crisis environment causes them. But, whatever the reason, the two were, I thought, appearing decidedly unlike Gemini.

I was not though, certain that anyone else shared my opinion until Corvis posted the following to the Press thread:

EW: You and I have our opinions and predictions of how people are going to do when they get out there. Who surprised you the most — either positively or negatively — once they hit the beach in these first three days?

JEFF PROBST: Hmmm, a few people. I was surprised with how composed Monica was straight out of the gate. I was surprised with Tyson and how he carried himself — still funny but clearly wanting to help his tribe succeed …

Ah …

Note: Below is the revised F&A/E&W Tribal Chart, and, as promised, no one has been ‘shuffled’ anywhere.

You can find the chart of the Signs performances in all of the twenty-six completed Seasons, here, on the thread's opening page.

And the chart of the Elements' performances in all of the twenty-six completed Seasons, here, on the next.

And below are the links to the Profiles for all twelve Sun Signs.

Hello!

Ruling in Chaos

I am not a betting woman. But, if I were, I would feel very safe in placing a wager that at least once per Season either the host of Survivor or one of its players points out the fact that it doesn’t take long for persons exposed to the Game’s crisis environment to revert to type: to begin to exhibit the traits and behaviors most fundamental to each of their individual personalities. Just as Aras and Tyson - speaking of Colton - did this Season.

And that demonstrable - time and circumstance tested – fact is also the most fundamental of this thread’s assumptions: we are creatures of habit and instinct.

But that body of assumption – in theory and in practice – operates a bit differently here than do the assumptions regarding patterned behavior made in other threads. Because here, the very first assumption is that no matter the Season’s twists and turns; the player’s gender, age or previous relationships with other players; production’s most careful plans – in short, no matter what circumstances are brought to bear – a Gemini is going to be a Gemini, a Taurus is going to be a Taurus, A Libra is going to be a Libra … etc. … etc. … etc. Under duress.

And because duress exaggerates and mercilessly exposes innate characteristics - good and bad – we’re all still – 27 Seasons and counting – watching Survivor.

Too, when behaviors are typed and their human actors grouped accordingly, it is possible to ‘track’ the historic performances of those groups within the Game. And thus the second assumption that you’ve found here: when the division of a cast into two ‘tribes’ – the six complementary Fire and Air Signs vs the six complementary Earth and Water Signs – produces a balance between the two, it is more likely that the Fire and Air Signs will produce the Season’s Sole Survivor.

But, it’s a pretty slim data base – six Seasons – and the score is 4 – 2, so I treat that assumption with a grain of salt.

However, when the division produces majority and minority populations, it is a fact that over those – now 20 – completed Seasons the majority has produced the winner 85% of the time. In 17 of 20 Games. And it is also a fact, I think, that ‘ the majority wins’ is so because Survivor is a social Game and a Season’s prevalent behavior sets become its dominant vibes. Its atmosphere. Its environment. The currency of its psychological marketplace. How it does business. And it is all about whether you’re in. Or out.

So:

This Season, the Fire and Air Signs are in the majority. And, for the moment at least, at Galang the Air Signs – Aras, Tyson and Monica – whose most basic characteristic is their requirement of cultural harmony and the care and feeding of their own inner calm – are running the show. Note for later reference: Rupert is also an Air Sign.

From the Profile:

“ The gift of Air is flexibility and its natives’ ability to experience life through many prisms. Air Signs use their minds to make sense of their lives and for them there is more space between the life lived and the observing mind than is so with other Signs.

But, because Air Signs are especially vulnerable to the excesses of our mind-body split, balance is of paramount importance to them. So that while Air natives are usually calm and collected, they can – and frequently do – turn bitterly cold if their equilibrium is upset.

A word to the wise: there's little upside to baiting an Air Sign!”.

That said:

I am, as usual, running far behind my intentions. So, I’ll postpone most of what I had planned to write until after the show tonight and just briefly address the teases that have most intrigued me this week..

1. Tyson.

It seems that we’re going to have one really pissed-off Gemini at dinner this evening. And I’ll just remind everyone of Joel and the hapless Chet to illustrate the level of my anticipation of an extremely physical challenge played on the heels of Rachel’s (presumed) departure from Redemption Island.

2. Laura and Ciera. Tina and Katie.

Mother and daughter, Laura and Ciera, are both Leo. And Leo is a highly emotional – subjective and sensitive- personality.

From the Leo Profile:

“It is a Leo’s birthright to lead, and they'll naturally assume that role without being asked. However, if that authority is questioned, they may abandon a project entirely. Outgoing, spontaneously warm-hearted and plain-spoken (but poor judges of character), Leo are more disillusioned than the average if let down by those they trust. “

Tina and Katie are Capricorn and Cancer.

From the Capricorn and Cancer Profiles:

THE CAPRICORN PROFILE
Positive Traits

Practical and Prudent
Ambitious and Disciplined
Self-Reliant and Persevering
Resourceful and Creative

Negative Traits
Pessimistic and Melancholy
Materialistic and Stern
Conventional and Rigid
Demanding and Cold

THE CANCER PROFILE
Positive Traits

Nurturing and Sensuous
Intuitive and Imaginative
Shrewd and Tenacious
Sensitive and Empathetic

Negative Traits
Changeable and Moody
Self-Absorbed and Clinging
Subjective and Clannish
Neurotic and Needy

And I really don’t think that I’m going to enjoy watching these ladies compete against each other.

3. The contest at Redemption Island

4. Candice and Gervase are Scorpio. And Scorpio's signature behavior is their skill at prosecuting revenge.

Below is the updated – Galang and Tadhana – Tribal Chart.

|

Here is the updated – F&A/E&W – Tribal Chart. Note: Keep in mind that the none of the players on the right side of this Chart, as a practical matter, have a chance at winning this Game.

And here is the chart of the Signs' performances in F&A-dominant Seasons:

You can find the chart of the Signs performances in all of the twenty-six completed Seasons, here, on the thread's opening page.

And the chart of the Elements' performances in all of the twenty-six completed Seasons, here, on the next.

Finally, here are the links to the full text of each of the Signs' Profiles:

The Earth Signs – These three practical and industrious Signs are Capricorn, Taurus and Virgo.
The Water Signs – These three emotional and intuitive Signs are Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces.
The Fire Signs – These three charismatic and spontaneous Signs are Aries, Leo and Sagittarius.
The Air Signs – These three intellectual and balanced Signs are Libra, Gemini and Aquarius

Well, I said I wanted to begin this second update with Galang. And the all-Galang previews and teases of this coming week’s episode have certainly cooperated.

So, because he isn’t here to defend himself – so far as we know – and because those previews and teases more than just hint that Colton is about to abandon our Wednesday evening soirees – again – I’ll start by saying that, although I won’t be at all sorry to see him go, I do understand and empathize with much of his behavior:

Colton is a Sagittarius. So is Osten. So is Dre of Fiji. So is Stephenie II of Guatemala. So are Shannon and Jane of Nicaragua. So is the also-infamous Shane (of Aras’ Exile Island). So am I.

And, earlier, I mentioned our miserable attention spans: ‘I think that Sagittarius playing the Game simply grow weary of it far sooner than do other Signs. Thirty-nine uninterrupted days is an awfully long time for one of us to maintain an interest in the most pleasant of pursuits. Much less contrived misery.’

Truth:

There is just no getting past the fact that Sagittarius are quickly and easily bored. We are not patient in the best of circumstances.

From the Sagittarius Profile:

“Their innate restlessness (which, if excessive, often jeopardizes more than their own stability) will often compel them to use even the most satisfying ménage as a base from which to … depart.”

Monica was wasting her breath.

And, God knows, we are not tactful and much prefer debate to consensus. However, when crossed, we are usually more contentious than combative (like Aries) and gruff rather than gloomy (like Leo) . In other words, usually a Sagittarius enjoys pricking pretentions as opposed to punching noses or pouting.

From the Sagittarius Profile:

Positive Traits
Optimistic and Freedom-loving
Curious and Sporting
Good-humored and Straightforward
Expansive and Philosophical

Negative Traits
Blindly-optimistic and Careless
Irresponsible and Superficial
Flippant and Promiscuous
Tactless and Restless

And, as the profile tells us, Sagittarius, for better or worse, usually live life at its surface: what you see is what you get and what they see is what they tend to believe. They rarely spend a great deal of time examining their own – or anyone’s – navel. And although we love conversation – most of us enjoy listening as much as we do speaking – its polite version is not our forte. We don’t do saccharine small-talk well.

Moreover – meditation, massage (physical or psychological), orchestrated silence, therapy, group hugs, extended calm and widespread harmony, stylized good will, formulated sweetness and light – Kumbaya in all of its myriad incarnations – unnerves and irritates us. We instinctively distrust it. And I can’t even imagine the level of my distrust and irritation if I found myself living with a group of people renowned for their willingness to whore any emotion – and to engage in any social subterfuge – in order to win a Game who spent their off-time lining up to knead necks.

Jeez!!

Did I mention that hypocrisy infuriates us? Not to mention the fact that the symbolism is downright scary!

From the Sagittarius Profile:

“These natives don’t seem to get bogged down in emotional complexities. So those who love them may wish for more depth: more feeling. And there are times when they are shockingly blunt … But … leave it to a Sagittarius to step into a messy tangle and sum up the situation with blinding clarity. This makes them invaluable when you need honesty rather than enabling.

However, Sagittarius can be exacting, domineering and inconsiderate: scorning the inadequacies of others while expecting expansive recognition of their own skills and effort. Too, they can be (and frequently are) impulsively angry. And, when angry, both male and female Sagittarians can be vicious: employing with precision those words or actions that will most severely wound their adversary. On the other hand, they are magnanimous in forgiving offenses and quick to make amends for their own intemperance.”

In addition to being socially awkward, Sagittarius, although usually adept at sports and dance, have a deserved reputation for being physically clumsy in everyday pursuits. And it is fair to say that in more ways than a few, Sagittarius have a talent for making jackasses of themselves and the fortunate among us truly treasure the people in our lives who love us despite ourselves and compulsively seek out their comfort when we’ve been a fool.

So, when Colton says that he needs to get to Caleb, I understand and empathize with that , too …

Now, having said all of this, I feel that its only fair to point out that Sagittarius also have a host of desirable traits. When I come back.

Note: Actually, Colton was born on the Scorpio/Sagittarius cusp and if he was born in the eight-hour window from 12:00 AM to 8:00 AM on his birthday, Sagittarius would be off the hook: Scorpio would have to claim him. But, although I have no idea – when – during the day he was born, his behavior is so suggestive of Sagittarius that I’ve just bitten that proverbial bullet and issued him a bow and arrow. I am not, however, responsible for the poisoned tips.

Back after the show to explain what I do not understand about Colton’s behavior. And, perhaps if I’m lucky, with the time to do a proper update of the state of the Signs in Blood v Water.

Hello!

I am enjoying this Season.

But I will admit that I am still trying to unravel the mystery of its producers' intent. Because, of the original ten 'partnerships' introduced in the premiere episode, four have now been reduced to one member only - permanently - and two others are awaiting the same fate at Redemption Island.

Leaving only four 'related' teams currently active in the Game.

And the individual members of those friends-and-family duos are still separated - from each other - in two standard-fare Survivor tribes of veterans and virgins. Why?

I've wondered if the-powers-that-be developed cold feet at the thought of what mayhem might ensue if they threw teams of well-acquainted adults - familiarity (also) breeds contempt, they say - into the Game's extremely stressful environment sans a breaking-in period?

Or, perhaps they intended to keep the two groups at a safe distance from each other - until the merge - from the beginning?

In any event, I thought that it might be a good time to post these Compatibility Profiles of the couples - and a Chart of every remaining Survivor's degree of compatibility with each of his/her competitors - along with them.

While they still have some relevance.

Note: I've put a legend with the Chart and links to everyone's full Profile with the Compatibility Portraits.

And, hopefully, I'll be back shortly with some comments on the past two shows. Lots of things happening (that are causing things to happen), Sun Sign-wise.

Simpatico: Because they share the same Sun Sign, their emotional natures are so similar that it's uncanny.
These relationships are usually intense.

Both are proud, vibrant and warm - but rather self-centered - individuals. And both want to be the center of attention.

So, joining Leo forces is like creating a binary star but the question in this relationship often becomes ‘who will dominate who’? They are both driven by a strong ego: proud and obstinate. However, for the relationship to work, neither of the two can dominate it - they must cooperate. And that isn't something that comes naturally to them.

Too, although it may not be obvious to others, both are also very self-conscious individuals and very concerned with their own personal creativity, recognition, and performance. Both of these Leo are best suited to work that is very personal and creative - being one inconspicuous part of a large corporation is not for them.

Their relationship is likely to be either extraordinarily fulfilling or disastrous - with no middle ground. They will tend to either adore or despise each other. Both are very loyal, but each of them must respect and believe in the other and if either of them comes to believe that the other lacks integrity or honesty - is competing with them - or does not appreciate or understand their creativity, then the love and admiration that they have for each other turns sour quickly.

Compromise will be the key to success.

And this relationship usually exaggerates one very key component of the personality – their concern with how they look and the impression that they make on other people. One of their most important driving forces is the need to be recognized for their efforts.

But, if they can let go of some of their dominating and self-centered behaviors, they will be able to offer each other a great deal of friendship, loyalty and support.

However, these Leo were born between 23 July and 4 August and are therefore very - very - obstinate. In fact, this is one of the most inflexible combinations in the Zodiac. Learning to adjust to each other’s needs is the major challenge of this relationship.

Fire - Leo

Attracts: Their Sun Signs are opposite. They find each other fascinating and frustrating. At the same time!

There is a strong magnetic attraction between the two and even if they have little in common intellectually, their physical relationship is likely to be very intense: binding them together. And if they do have common interests and resonate on an intellectual level as well, they will be unable to stay away from each other! However, both are very possessive, and Scorpio is especially prone to jealousy.

Too, there are significant differences in their emotional makeup. Taurus is steadier, simpler, less complex, and less needy than is Scorpio and Scorpio demands more in terms of emotional involvement and depth of intimacy than does Taurus.

They are extremely stubborn, strong-willed people and must learn to compromise more graciously in order to harmonize with one another. Neither is especially articulate or communicative about the things that matter most to them and much misunderstanding can result. Scorpio is a fixed water Sign and that cold inflexibility will conflict with Taurus’ earthy stick-to-your-guns approach. So, while they will agree on some things, they will endlessly debate others. If their partnership is to work long term, both will need to learn to accept the other’s viewpoint, even when they disagree with it.

And while Scorpio’s need to express their love in sexual intimacy will flatter Taurus at first, they need more affection and sensitivity and warmth if they are to feel secure about the relationship lasting and if it’s not there, they may not be able to stay - it’s too intense.

Oddly, this relationship can bring up psychological challenges in the area of money, power and control. So, although they’re capable of nurturing and loving each other, these issues will be a major testing ground for them. However, business between these two could go well. But, before getting too financially involved with each other, the Taurus will need to clearly understand the Scorpio’s financial concerns and the Scorpio will need to know how they can satisfy their partner’s need for security. And once this part of the relationship is sorted out, the emotional and physical aspects should look after themselves.

But, if the Taurus is a hard-core materialist, it might be better if the two chose to limit their relationship to social activities and friendship: this Scorpio may be just too emotionally charged for him.

Water-Scorpio and Earth-Taurus

Paradox: If an alliance exists, it's magnetic and binding. But it's hard to find the reason for it
and a great deal of fine-tuning is necessary to its survival.

Both of these two are willful and passionate people with unique personalities: intense and direct. And they like that about each other. But they are also likely to disagree ferociously and often.

During those disagreements, Aries is most often up-front and blatant about her feelings. The Scorpio is secretive and subtle. However, this doesn’t mean that Scorpio won’t say what’s on his mind. He will. But he won’t always say it immediately. And while Aries can release anger and emotion and then forget about it, Scorpio nurses grudges and resentments and may hold on to the slights that Aries unthinkingly inflicts. Too, Scorpio needs to feel emotionally-bonded with friends and allies and Aries may not have the same need for closeness.

Power is the name of the game when a Scorpio and Aries combine forces. But how they use this power will determine what level of success their efforts will produce. In some cases a battle of wills is likely, as Aries have just as much fire and purposefulness as does Scorpio. So, compromise will be important if they are to work together.

But this is a fiery and dynamic combination. This Aries will not take to any of the Scorpio’s emotional control games. Moreover, the two will irritate each other and take pleasure in proving each other wrong. This is perhaps to do with self-esteem issues. Making another person feel weaker so that you feel stronger is not a good basis for a relationship.

Aries prefers to dominate even the most casual of relationships and adores center stage. And Scorpio will let them think that they are – leading. For a while. But Aries soon discover — and this is always a shock — that the Scorpio plans to take that position in the relationship. And they plan to do it by stealth. So, if the two want the more positive aspects of the partnership to emerge and thrive, they must be careful to avoid getting into that battle of wills.

Obviously, this is not an alliance to be entered into without a great deal of thought. It can, however, work.

Water-Scorpio and Fire-Aries

Harmony: They appreciate one another's emotional style. It's easy for them to collaborate with one another.

Both the Gemini and the Leo in this combination have a very childlike, playful, fun-loving side that is brought out when they are together. They both love drama and color and find one another to be delightful and interesting. Gemini is more intellectual than Leo, however, and needs a variety of people, activities, and interests in order to be happy. On the other hand, Leo wants to be the most important person in Gemini's life and may not appreciate all of his other interests and friendships.

Too, Leo makes commitments and keeps them better than Gemini does because Leo is less restless. Once having found something good, Leo sticks with it, and doesn't completely understand Gemini's desire for novelty. Also, Leo is very proud and has a sensitive ego, while Gemini can be a merciless teaser and doesn't always take Leo seriously. For the most part, however, these two could be great friends or very compatible lovers.

Because Gemini are essentially articulate, intellectual individuals, they will fan the flames of Leo’s fiery pride. These elements work well together. Many Air and Fire combinations have a lot going for them. The Gemini–Leo match is no exception.

But, Gemini love a variety of subjects and will flit from one to another. Leo is more inflexible and determined and may not adapt well to those mental gymnastics. Too, Leo likes to dominate a situation, and can come on a little strong. The two could find themselves one-upping each other in the attention-seeking stakes. If they can both respect each other’s need to be on life’s centre stage, they’ll complement each other well.

The warm and enthusiastic fire of Leo is definitely inspiring and makes you feel that your talents are appreciated. Leo is a creative sign, and Gemini will respect and learn from them. Again, both members of the duo express this best in a social context, as they both love the company of others.

However, Leos tend to be hard taskmasters, and fixed in their ideas. Gemini are far more pliable and adaptable and are much less likely than Leo to stick to a viewpoint just for the sake of it (though Gemini don’t mind doing this in the name of a decent debate now and then).

Gemini has a great capacity to take in and remember a pile of facts and figures, and will often surprise everyone with the talent. Unfortunately, Leo will also think that many Gemini are jacks of all trades and masters of none. Part of her challenge will be to anchor Gemini’s flighty character and help him focus on learning a lot about one topic, rather than a little about many.

But, In matters of love and affection, this partnership has a high chance of succeeding. However, don’t expect the relationship to develop easily or without its fair share of challenges.

Air-Gemini and Fire-Leo

Puzzling: They don't really understand each other's emotional styles.
The maintenance of the relationship requires considerable compromise.

Taurus prefers a slow, easy-going pace. This is clear in the way they approach their day-to-day life, and in the way they communicate. They prefer to delve into things deeply and methodically, solving problems step by step. Taurus is stable, grounded, and steady - qualities that Gemini lacks and feels both drawn to and impatient with sometimes. Taurus is intrigued by and respects Gemini's wit, mental agility and intelligence, but is sometimes annoyed with Gemini's inability to make a commitment or to follow through on intentions.

Gemini is totally different and leap like leprechauns from one thought to another with a truckload of curiosity and naiveté. They can become restless and impatient — even irritable, on occasion and these character traits may not fit well with a Taurus. This doesn’t mean Taurus isn’t infatuated by their wit and humour — it’s just that they need a slower and steadier pace.

Gemini likes to talk and can jump rapidly from one topic to the next in rapid succession and Taurus may quickly develop "mental indigestion" from Gemini's fast-paced conversation. When faced with an important decision, for example, Taurus would benefit by taking a quiet walk in the woods or along the beach, while Gemini needs to talk with someone. They must learn to respect each other's different styles, or they will certainly get in each other's way.

However, the two do have lots to talk about and are happy spending hour after hour in each other’s company as long as they’re in a stimulating environment. They are both pleasure-seekers with eclectic intellectual, physical and cultural appetites.

On an intimate level, Gemini can be too fast-moving for Taurus. They need lots of touch and sensual stimulation. Taurus may not respond as vivaciously as Gemini would like, either. The Air native needs to talk more; Taurus needs to touch more. So the Gemini needs to try not to be so impatient that she overlooks some of the finer details of courtship.

By far, these two are the best of Gemini-Taurus matches. They have lots of similar qualities: including their playfulness. And there could be many unexpected experiences in store. There is a touch of Aquarius in this Gemini and if the Taurus enjoys excitement but finds it difficult to break free of his routine on his own, he may be in for lots of pleasant surprises.

But, despite the fact that on many levels this combination is a good one, Gemini’s restlessness may be too much for Taurus on a long-term basis.

Air-Gemini and Earth-Taurus

Attracts: Their Sun Signs are opposite. They find each other fascinating and frustrating. At the same time!

Warm and demonstrative, Cancer needs a lot of domestic and family activities. Nurturing, personal involvement with others is a necessary part of life for them and family and close friends are extremely important to them. But Capricorn is not so good at expressing feelings. They often become emotionally detached from personal affairs and may fail to fully appreciate Cancer’s more personal, emotional responses to situations. And Capricorn may seem dry and perhaps overly ambitious to the Cancer,

Cancer has a far simpler and more intuitive approach to life than does Capricorn. Their view of life can be summed up in the saying, ‘The best things in life aren’t things.’ This is diametrically opposed to the Capricorn’s orientation: they aim for material and financial steadiness, security and achievement.
Both appreciate traditional values, but Capricorn see material things as critical ingredients for a happy and well-adjusted family existence. Also, they love money and what it can buy, and tend to identify their emotional wellbeing with what they have. This isn’t so with Cancer. They feel nurtured and supported by what Capricorn brings to the table in the way of financial resources, but don’t for a minute think that money will ever play a major role in their concept of success. Cancer is quite happy to make use of money, but only as a means to an end.

On some levels, a relationship between the two is one of convenience. Look carefully at the emotional transactions involved in the relationship. A subtle bargaining may be going on in the form of, ‘I’ll do this, if you do that.’

However, both of them seek security, consistency, and fidelity in relationships and their differences can serve to complement one another. In fact, this Cancer and Capricorn could make a good team. There’s a kind and sensitive vibration flowing between them that provides the emotional nourishment necessary for a successful partnership.

Earth-Capricorn and Water-Cancer

Clashing: The individuals in the relationship are challenged to understand each other's emotional styles
and clashes are frequent.

Aries often feels smothered by demands of family and even friends. Cancer, on the other hand, is very devoted to family needs and the inner, emotional needs of others. And Aries may, without realizing it, selfishly accept Cancer's nurturing and giving while contributing relatively little to the relationship on an emotional level. Aries’ need for autonomy and independence often conflicts with Cancer's needs for closeness, intimacy, and mutual dependency. Aries seems selfish, impersonal, and indifferent to Cancer at times, and Cancer may feel too needy and emotionally sensitive to Aries. Aries can learn compassion from Cancer, and Cancer can learn to be more independent, but it's likely to be a rough road at times with much adjustment needed on both sides.

When a Cancer native first meets an Aries partner they have an immediate connection at a heart level with them. They are also very attracted to their fiery and confident manner — anything seems to be possible with them. Conversely, Aries feels at peace when they are with the Cancer. This is an interesting blend of elements and can be a positive combination.

If they enter into a serious relationship, however, the Cancer will have to learn to keep up with the Aries: to shift into top gear and get used to the extremely fast pace of this Fire native. And the Aries must continually remind himself to move slowly and sensitively. Cancer is a far more emotional sign than Aries, as its Water Element implies.

Both Aries and Cancer are Cardinal, movable signs, indicating flexibility and plenty of variety in lifestyle. But Cancer are far more retiring and domesticated than Aries and the Fire Sign will tend to dominate the Cancer’s cooler energies. Aries is more forceful and has a talent for hasty decisions.

Now the steam generated by Water and Fire personalities may be fine when it comes to matters of physical intimacy — the Aries mission, in terms of romance, will be to be very responsive, because Cancers are extremely receptive and sensual — but it also produces an absence of clarity on an emotional level. This is where the difficulty between these two lies. And Cancer need their home environments to be not so demanding: stable.

However, one positive in this combination might be the Aries’ ability to inspire others. It could well be a boon to the shy and reserved Cancer and motivate her to take the initiative and explore other possibilities.

In short:

While the Cancer’s friendly disposition is perfect for nurturing most Arians, the Water Sign will find a better match with some others: this Aries may be too fiery for her.

But, although Cancer and Aries is not the ideal match in terms of elements, these individuals do have strong karmic connections. And if this Aries doesn’t mind a lot of quiet time in front of a cozy fire, this Cancer is perfect for him.

Water-Cancer and Fire-Aries

Attracts: Their Sun signs are opposite. They find each other fascinating and frustrating. At the same time!

The Fire Sign of Aries is completely opposite to Libra and some astrologers believe that this combination is a good match. That’s probably because opposites usually attract. This is only partly true and you need to look more closely at this combination: the emotional styles are sometimes poles apart.

A basic difference in these personalities is that Libra – anxious about making errors in judgment – likes to look at both sides of an issue and consider any situation from every angle. He likes to discuss ideas with others, get their opinion, and sometimes has difficulty coming to a definitive decision. The process is rather like a roller-coaster ride. Aries hates to be wrong, too. But he has a strong ego and more often than not jumps right in – to take a strong, more one-sided view of a situation – and is frequently uninterested in hearing others' points of view. And, over time, Libra may come to feel that Aries is a selfish egotist and Aries may come to the conclusion that Libra is a weak-willed wimp.

Obviously, they will need to have greater appreciation and respect for each other than this! So, in order for their partnership to work, they will have to reconcile this basic difference in personality.

Too, where Aries sees things from one perspective, is quick off the mark when it comes to expressing his views and always seems very sure about what he thinks, the Libra will argue many positions in a discussion. And that drives Aries crazy! Is the Libra with him or against him?

And Libra are quite sympathetic to all sorts of positions on the big issues and would like Aries to be the same. If they are to work well together, Libra needs to know that the Aries is able to be sympathetic to his broader perspectives. But it’s difficult for the latter to make concessions. Too, Libra is also very sociable and needs to explore conversation and people generally. Aries prefers to skim the surface and then move on to new conquests and experiences.

Note: Usually, Libra make many more compromises and accommodations for the partnership than does Aries. However, Fire and Air do have some compatible components and if the two will take the time to explore those compatibilities a friendship/partnership can be very beneficial to both. For instance: Aries are fighters and will protect the interests of those they love as spontaneously and passionately as they do their own.

And in this instance, the ruling planets of the two are extremely well-matched.

Air-Libra and Fire-Aries

Harmony: They appreciate one another's emotional style. It's easy to collaborate with one another.

Both are outgoing, friendly people who enjoy socializing and each other's company immensely. And very importantly, both love diversity, change and investigating the world and the people with whom they come in contact: people are very important to Libra.

Very often the Sagittarius provides extra "zing" to the relationship with lots of grandiose ideas, dreams, visions, and restless wanderlust. However, Libra provides a more balanced, sensible perspective while usually being sympathetic to his partner as well. However – because Libra is often prone to go along with people even when there are lots of doubts and Sagittarius may enthusiastically talk Libra into ventures that the Air native should have the sense to question rather than meekly accept – sometimes their joint activities may fail to be fruitful.

Overall, though, this, while it lasts, is likely to be a most enjoyable relationship.

There’s something really refreshing about the combination of Libra and Sagittarius. There’s an immediate sense of comfort, an ease of communication and a general feeling of wellbeing when the two connect. And Libra will prove to be a worthy friend to the wild and outspoken Sagittarius. They have the ability to slowly but surely polish the less-refined personality.

Too, their shared intense interest in, and enjoyment of, travel is an important factor in their friendship. And vacations and long walks together will help them slip into the groove of interesting discussion and emotional sharing which is vital to the wellbeing of a Libra.

The romantic side of their relationship is a most interesting one. If Libra can get over the initial shock/horror of Sagittarius’ very ‘candid’ sexual attitude – and provided that the Sagittarius doesn’t insist upon pushing the Libra past what he considers the boundaries of good taste – intimacy can be most pleasant for both.

Note: Caleb is probably a bit fickle for Colton’s taste (even though the latter sees much of his own independence in him) and the Sagittarius will need to do some pretty clever wheeling and dealing to keep his partner walking that ‘romantic’ line. On the other hand, Colton may be a bit too pompous for the Libra’s sensibilities.

Still, as they say, there is no harm in trying …

Fire-Sagittarius and Air-Libra

Paradox: If an attraction exists, it's magnetic and binding. But it's hard to find the reason for it
and a great deal of fine-tuning is necessary to its success.

Although they approach problems and ideas from different perspectives, they have a good mental rapport. Because, while Virgo focuses on specific details and prefers to specialize in a certain area, Aquarius takes a wider, more global view and looks for interrelationships in a large system, without as much focus on any particular area of specialization. Virgo is more concerned with effective and precise application of plans and helps Aquarius to practically apply ideas. They make a good team in social or intellectual pursuits. Their relationship may be a bit cool or formal, however, and hopefully there are other astrological factors (as described elsewhere in this report) to provide warmth, affection, and romantic attraction.

If they’re looking for a challenge, an Aquarius need look no further than to a relationship with a Virgo. If ever a Sun Sign were going to baffle him, it would be Virgo. But there is an unusual compatibility between the two that might not be immediately obvious when they first meet.

For instance:

The Virgo probably saw a lot of herself in his humanitarian and socially-oriented attitude. There are some differences here, though. Aquarius is not as focused on the nitty-gritty as is Virgo. They are ‘big picture’ people who are more concerned about contributing to the community and the world as a whole in whatever way they can. But these shared ideals are a good basis for friendship even when romance doesn’t follow.

This idealism could well connect the two of them and their distinctly different skill sets could be a plus. When they join forces and work together they are likely to achieve something special.

But the Virgo must learn not to attempt to impose her fussiness on the aloof Aquarius – she will lose him. And she may also find that the Aquarius and his broadly-sketched ‘master plans’ don’t fit as neatly as she first thought into her intellectual ‘square’.

But part of the lesson to be learned from Aquarius is to open up and freely explore what life has to offer.

This can apply to romance and intimacy as well. After all, Aquarius is the Sun Sign often associated with free love. And this Virgo and Aquarius are particularly compatible – romantically.

However, Aquarius born between 21 January and 30 January – including Rupert – are probably the version of Aquarius most difficult for this Virgo to deal with in other areas and would probably be better suited to her as a friend or colleague than as long-term romantic partner.

Too late!

"Facinating!"

I found Tyson & Rachel and Aras & Vytas's profiles to be the most intriguing. Aras & Vytas have so much of their baggage shown this season, what a story between those two. I think Tyson has always fascinated me every time he's been on. Is because he's a Gemini too?

So much hard work you've done Georj. I love to read this stuff after the season plays out too.

I should be watched....closely.

Hi, there!

I'm so glad that you found those particular profiles interesting. Because I think that they're among the most fascinating 'combinations' in the Game, too.

From your question, I gather that, like Tyson, you're a Gemini?

If you are, you should know that I'm always slightly in awe of that bright, witty and gregarious personality. As the profiles indicate, it is - in natural and normal environments - complex, contradictory and wonderfully entertaining. And very deserving of every round of applause it inspires.

And I think that, yes, you (and all of us) are often drawn to the people or characters on our screens most like us. I’ve always thought of it as an instinctive reaction. We are fond of mirrors.

But, too, in the case of Gemini, I think it's because they are so engagingly human and so much fun to watch - even when they are not having the best of days. Because the Zodiac’s chameleons are so adept at reflecting the behaviors and emotions of those around them, it’s very easy for every Sign’s natives to empathize with a Gemini.

And, of course, Survivor is not often Gemini's best of days.

That’s so, I think, because Gemini are natural, instinctive and compulsive entertainers, teachers, salespersons, preachers, politicians – brilliant, funny, well-informed, articulate and attractive persuaders and purveyors. They innately look for every opportunity to make the people in their lives ... happy … and their need to be the center of attention is, unlike that need in some other personalities, not a product of ego. It is simply that they cannot do what comes naturally to them if the competition for the audience’s attention is too fierce. And they are not any more comfortable with physical labor, dirt and hunger than they are with being being side-lined to the general population.

So, faced with a chaotic physical and social scene that makes them extremely uncomfortable, Gemini playing the Game make alliances that offer them a buffer from its more unpleasant tasks and facts - and a spotlight for their unique skills – as quickly as possible.

But, as I think most Survivor veterans who’ve been allied with a Gemini – and most certainly, Aras – would attest, it’s really hard to manipulate their immediate environment adroitly enough to prevent the Air native from becoming, at the very least, nervous. And, discombobulated, a Gemini is going to do something. Usually not a good something. Even for the Gemini.

Enter (the Mutable Subordinate) Tyson. Accompanied by (the Fixed Superior) Rachel. And JP, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly spoke about his surprise at the Gemini’s calm and collected demeanor during the first few days of the Game. A demeanor that survived Colton’s invitation to make strategic mischief with the Sagittarius and bought him, instead, a safe haven with the Anti-Five.

Exit (the ‘warm, enthusiastic and inspiring’, Leo) Rachel. And I expected Tyson to really act out. But, if he did, we didn’t see it. We did, though, see him do something as we were re-introduced to the charmingly delinquent Gemini from Tocantins and Heroes v Villains as the newly-orphaned Air native - no longer content within an alliance that included three of five members with friends or family still in the Game - established an extracurricular partnership with a similarly situated Scorpio.

And, as a quick look at the Compatibilities Chart in the post just above – beginning bottom left, reading left to right and skipping blithely by his very compatible relationship to Aras and Caleb – tells us, this union-of-convenience definitely falls into the ‘Usually not a good something’ category. I mean, according to the Chart, only an island dalliance with the also-orphaned Virgo, Laura Boneham, could have been a worse choice.

But, if I were to put together a lengthy composite of several available profiles of the Gemini/Scorpio relationship, in essence it would say that despite the fact that a social/intimate partnership of this particular Gemini and Scorpio would be the most challenging of the all-unfortunate Gemini/Scorpio combinations – due, in large part, to the Gemini’s infatuation with choices and decisions designed to shock – the meld of Gemini finesse and Scorpio determination can be an effective formula for successful professional relationships.

So, here we are now with a preview that indicates/insinuates that we are about to see a Tyson who – following Galang’s first IC loss, boot deliberation/drama and TC – was then no longer content with the five-person alliance as-it-was. More specifically, he was no longer happy with Aras where he was. Note: If there was any doubt about just who was in-charge at Galang at that stage of the Game, Tyson’s ‘King Aras’ comment should go a long way toward deciding the question.

The underlying premise of the preview, though, is that Tyson’s and Gervase’s – the JP voiceover includes them both – plot to orchestrate Aras’ boot was jeopardized – or foiled - by the subsequent tribal realignment.

A rather lame premise, I think. Because it’s difficult to imagine that the three original Tadhana would have been anything other than delighted to help if the plot had actually survived the journey to their camp and they had actually lost an Immunity Challenge. In fact, I find it hard to believe that the (Fixed Sign) Scorpio, Gervase (who, edit notwithstanding, probably thought of himself as the senior and managing partner of this duet), would buy into a strategy that would destroy his major alliance before the merge.

But then I also didn’t think that a (Fixed Sign) Taurus – John or Brad - would do that either. And one of them certainly surprised me … Note: I loved John’s satiric ‘Five-Man’ comment upon Brad’s arrival at Redemption Island.

What doesn’t surprise me is Tyson’s innate unease when the extreme environment encroaches on his sense of well-being and his resulting determination to do something. But, in Brad’s case, Hayden warned us that a Pandora’s Box was being opened. In Tyson’s, I can’t think of a similar warning – yet. And although we can be extremely confident that Gervase – the (Minority native) Scorpio – is not going to be this Season’s Sole Survivor, the (Majority native) Gemini is certainly a viable (if unlikely) contender for the title and perhaps this is the time-in-three when the usually-not-good somethings that Tyson does turn out to be, editorially, grand strategies that carry the day. It is, very much, all a matter of timing. And this Season, Tyson has an edge that he didn’t have in Tocantins or Heroes v Villains.

But, it is an edge shared by every Fire and Air native in the Game. Including his fellow (and soon to be very sympathetic) Gemini, Monica. And including the Libra, (King) Aras. And the Aries, Vytas (now of the Aries, Earl’s, same mountaintop). And the Leo, Ciera (now of the Leo, Sandra’s, same “anyone but me”). And, the longer shots – the Libra, Caleb and the Aries, Hayden and the other Leo, Laura Morett.

So, I’m hoping that the identity of the “One-Man Wrecking Ball” narrows the field a bit.

A final note about Vytas (I didn’t mean to write a novel): I agree with you about the brothers’ story. But I wonder if it’s ending for this Season. Because, as much as that mountaintop scene is reminiscent of Earl (and of Bob, the Pisces winner), Vytas’ eloquent and very prominent ‘journey’ confessionals are beginning to worry me. And wouldn't he make a perfect, ironic "strategic blindside"?

Perhaps, though, he’s only channeling one of my favorite Sagittarius, Matty.

Please drop in often. I enjoy the company.

Appreciate all the work you've put in, and it is indeed fascinating reading.

I am still trying to unravel the mystery of its producers' intent.

Me too. Vets v newbies has always been a disaster for the newbies, this one looks to be heading for another vet winner. Tadhana kept booting people because of who their loved ones were, and then Culpepper talked himself to RI by continuing that sort of strategy talk, resulting in a tribe that simply never coalesced as a team. Perhaps now they will, but it may be too late.

It remains to be seen what happens when they merge, when the surviving pairs can reunite.

Hello!

I am so glad to see you here. Because, with the introduction of this randomly-drawn swap, I am more confused than ever about just where this Season's story/theme is headed. And talking about it helps ...

Particularly about the Culpepper fiasco. His and mine.

So, I'll be back later this evening or tomorrow.

Unfortunately, Survivor always happens at the same time my usually very uneventful life decides to. And I got carried away this (one, free) morning with the whole Tyson thing.

In the meantime, thank you for the kind words. They were really welcome.

On my way out of the door ...

I stopped at the Vidcap thread and was reminded of this post referring to last week's teases.

And, as Sheldor points out, this ...

"One castaway sacrifices their own life in the game for a loved one"

... didn't happen.

So, if, as Sheldor suggests, this tease was intended for another Episode, I'll point out that Ciera is a Leo. And while I and others have linked her "anyone but me" remark to the two-time Leo winner - Sandra - the other Leo winner of the Game was Amber. And we have heard Gervase's cautionary reference to Laura Morett's (another Leo, the Zodiac's Paternal Sign) bond with her daughter.

And if Laura makes that sort of apparent sacrifice for Ciera (or Ciera for her mother) and we are treated to a reference to Rob's apparent sacrifice for Amber's future in the Game, I'm going to break out the champagne. We've solved the Season ...

Hello, again!

Below are some 'snapshots' of the shape of things from this vantage point just prior to tonight's show.

I will add far more editorial comment later tonight. But for now ...

The chart immediately below - of Tadhana's and Galang's current rosters - is most notable, I think, for its illustration of the decimation of Tadhana's 'middle class'.

The next Chart - of the F&A/E&W Tribes' current rosters - graphically illustrates the seemingly healthy state of the Season's Superiors. However ...

Next is an illustration of the state of affairs at Redemption. And worthy of further comment is the fact that all of the current residents are E&W natives. And all are natives of those Elements' Fixed Signs - Taurus and Scorpio.

Which prompted the next two Charts that go a really long way toward illustrating and explaining the Season's ever-shifting 'theme'. Where is it headed next?

And, finally, a redaction of the Chart illustrating the performance of the Signs in F&A Majority Seasons that leaves holes - just step over them - where once Sagittarius (Colton) - and Aquarius (Rupert) - and the absent Pisces - dwelled (and didn't).

Back soon,

Hello!

It – this tribal swap contrivance – is a good time to sit back and take stock of the Season to date. And I’m going to do that. And – because it looks as though my routine is going to take a hiatus from crises – I’m going to take my good, sweet time doing that

But, before the show begins tonight, I thought everyone might like to see what the new Tribes look like from this vantage point. So, here they are, first side-by-side with the original configurations and then side-by-side with the Tribes as they were when everyone arrived at Redemption Island for the fifth Challenge in that arena.

Note: I refuse to call these three-person contests ‘duels’.

Too, there is a Tribe-specific Compatibility Chart for both of the new social groups.

At the top of the Chart above is a comparison of the Season’s players by 1) their natural/instinctive Role preferences and by 2) their natural Modes of behavior/reaction – as they form and re-form associations, relationships and alliances.

Note: The Roles and Modes are displayed together for the sake of convenience. While there are some broad – very broad – correlations between the three and three, there are also substantial differences in their compositions. For instance:

Although the four Cardinal signs – Capricorn, Cancer, Aries and Libra - are often thought of as ‘Leaders’, because the standard profiles of the latter two make it clear that the natives of these two Signs are more comfortable in autonomous/independent Roles as opposed to positions of authority in traditional hierarchies, I’ve put them (with Sagittarius and Aquarius) in the ‘Soloist’ group and included the ‘natural-born’ hierarchal leaders – Leo and Scorpio - in the Superior group with Capricorn and Cancer.

So, this might be a good time to bring down the descriptions/definitions of the six groupings for a closer look:

The Roles

The Profiles of the Superior Signs – Capricorn (Cardinal Earth), Cancer (Cardinal Water), Scorpio (Fixed Water) and Leo (Fixed Fire) – indicate that their natives are most comfortable – and function most effectively – in a position of leadership within a hierarchy.

The Profiles of the Subordinate Signs – Taurus (Fixed Earth), Virgo (Mutable Earth), Pisces (Mutable Water) and Gemini (Mutable Air) – indicate that these personalities are most comfortable – and function most effectively – in sheltered (supportive or specialized) positions within a hierarchy.

And the Profiles of the Soloist Signs – Aries (Cardinal Fire), Sagittarius (Mutable Fire), Libra (Cardinal Air) and Aquarius (Fixed Air) – tell us that these folks are most comfortable – and function most effectively – in individualized, autonomous (detached or semi-detached) positions from/to a hierarchy.

The Modes

And I’ve brought these up again now because one of the most notable things about this Season is how quickly the ranks of the Fixed – in shorthand, the 'Middle Class' – Signs have been thinned.

We began the Season with eight Cardinal Signs: a lot of chutzpa. And we still have most of those bolder personalities in their camps and on our screens. Only Marissa has made the trip to Redemption Island. But the eight Fixed Signs have dwindled to two:

Three – Rupert, Candice and Rachel - have left the Game.

The three current residents of Redemption Island are all Fixed Signs.

And Gervase and Ciera – at Tadhana – are so – outnumbered.

Note: That is not to say that I think the two are in any immediate danger of being expelled from that Tribe.

And speaking of that, directly below is the Chart that compares the current ‘Old’ Tribes with the 'New' and then the two Compatibility Charts that I promised and then the Chart that details the compatibilities for all the players remaining in the Game. Most interesting, I think, is Gervase’s solitary position at Tadhana and Monica's and Vytas’ apparent isolation at Galang.

Should be interesting.

The Tribal Compatibility Charts:

The Season’s Compatibility Chart:

And finally:

Below is the Redemption Island Chart and full-blown Chart of the new Tribes.

I hope everyone enjoys this evening. I think that it’s going to be a lot of fun. And I don’t usually say that about a swap. As a matter of record: I really don't like them …

Jovan Benito

Hello!

One of the things that I most miss when watching the modern Survivor are the cultural vignettes that contributed so much to the show’s now-lost sense of footloose fantasy and adventure. There is no longer even a pretense of the mysterious or exotic. Or even of mundane difference. And there hasn’t been since Tocantins.

But it has occurred to me that in putting together Signs …, I have been as guilty of the generic-beach-generic-somewhere syndrome as they. So, although it’s going to be a rather awkward merge of old and new - I’m not particularly fond of sand/beige as a background for the vibrant colors of Ms. Benito’s paintings but I’m not about to do everything over – I hope you enjoy the new scenery.

Speaking of a Merge …

We know the new Tribe’s name and the names of all of its members. So we know that, for the first time together in Kasama, there are the three familial couples and four natural – Same-Sign duos remaining in the Game. Only Gervase is still without either a familial or natural counterpart/competitor in his camp.

But, being without a familial counterpart/competitor in his or her camp has been a fact for all of Blood v Water’s participants from its first day. And, as I’ve said earlier, I think that that is a sorry fact. Because it is to me such a waste of a good idea and of the half-cast of returning veterans.

If, instead of having them micro-managed and macro-edited via controlled confessionals that are scripted by their question and answer format and brief encounters in contrived-conflict Redemption Island and Challenge settings, I think that it would have brought a unique feel to Season 27 and a fresh perspective to an aging and lately-lackluster series if we had been treated to the spontaneous dynamics between former Survivors who we think that we know and their most intimate partners and closest relatives: including both-persons, in-person storytelling.

For instance:

Would Aras’ and Vytas’ story have been quite the same (or even recognizable) if it had been told – together – to an audience of four other ‘couples’? Or Kat’s and Hayden’s? Or Colton’s and Caleb’s? Or Tyson’s and Rachel’s?

And how much more fun (for us) might Challenges, Tribal Councils and Rewards have been if the Tribes had looked like this:

Galang
Gervase and Marissa
Monica and Brad
Tyson and Rachel
Colton and Caleb
Tina and Katie

Tadhana
Laura and Ciera
John and Candice
Rubert and Laura
Kat and Hayden
Aras and Vytas … ?

Would we have had fewer or more ‘couples’ left in the Game at this point? I have no idea. But I do think that we would have come to know far more about more of them (than three) before this point. And I do think that more interesting partnerships (than a sibling rivalry – that seems not to be that much a rivalry – and two mother/daughter duos) might have survived.

For instance:

I really wish we had been able to watch the relationship between Gervase and Marissa play out over the course of the entire Game. Theirs was, arguably, the least ‘connected’ of the pairings. But, perhaps because of that, I think that it was, potentially, the most explosive.

Ah, well. We have what we have. And although I am convinced that the original plan was to allow the couples to play the Game together – and that it was discarded when it became obvious just how large and lethal that hornet’s nest might become – I’m surprisingly happy with the compromise edition. It’s far more like any and every other Season to be an outstanding one. But I’ll keep watching if for no other reason than to see what they do about The Loved Ones’ Visit.

Then and Now

So, let’s get the details out of the way first – by beginning with the Chart below that features snapshots of the Season’s natural Tribes as they were at the start of the Game and as they are now on the eve of the Merge – so that we can get to what is always the best part of any behavioral critique: talking about the people who’ve left the room.

At the top – left – of the Chart:

The original cast for this Season was composed of 7 (Physical) Fire and 5 (Intellectual) Air natives. And of 4 (Practical) Earth and 4 (Emotional) Water natives. A 60% (Complementary Fire and Air) – 40% (Complementary Earth and Water) split.

At the Game’s beginning, there were 8 Superiors (Instinctively – Leaders), 7 Soloists (Instinctively – Independents) and 5 Subordinates (Instinctively – Supporters/Specialists). A 40% - 35% - 25% split.

And divided between Blood v Water’s initial camps were 8 (Initiative) Cardinal Signs, 8 (Steadfast) Fixed Signs and only 4 (Versatile) Mutable Signs. A 40% - 40% - 20% split.

At its beginning, then, if this Season were a personality, its dominant keywords/descriptors would have been:

Physical and Intellectual
Leaders and Independents
Initiative and Steadfast

The first two characteristics (as noted above) are complementary and the record confirms that, as a practical matter, this Season’s winner will be a Fire (Physical) or Air (Intellectual) native. Each of the other four, however stand alone and are, I think, more than a bit contradictory. And therefore, more than a bit accurate …

Note: It is widely thought that Tyson, a Gemini/Air native (and, therefore, a member of the Season’s Majority) will be its Sole Survivor. But Tyson is also a member of the 25% of this cast who are Subordinates and of the 20% of this cast who are Mutable Signs. And because of those facts and because of Gemini’s less than impressive performance within the Game, I said earlier that Tyson would be an unlikely winner.
And – although it is certainly becoming more probable with each Episode – he would be.

He would not, however, join the ranks of the next-to-impossible Sole Survivors: Tina, Yul and Jud Birza. An underdog – yes. A counterintuitive (tail wagging the dog) surprise – yes. A minor miracle – no.

At the top – right – of the Chart:

Now, on what is for us the eve of the Merge, the cast is composed of 4 (Physical) Fire and 4 (Intellectual) Air natives. And of 3 (Practical) Earth and 2 (Emotional) Water natives. A 62% (Complementary Fire and Air) – 38% (Complementary Earth and Water) split.

Now, there are 5 Superiors (Instinctively – Leaders), 4 Soloists (Instinctively – Independents) and 4 Subordinates (Instinctively – Supporters/Specialists). A 38% - 31% - 31% split.

And divided between Blood v Water’s current camps are 6 (Initiative) Cardinal Signs, 4 (Steadfast) Fixed Signs and only 3 (Versatile) Mutable Signs. A 46% - 31% - 23% split.

So, the Fire and Air Majority has gained a little ground. The Roles comparisons have tightened up a bit. But, the (Initiative) Cardinal Signs are now a clear majority. And their numbers (and those of the Fire and Air Majority and of the Superiors and Soloists) will only look better when, shortly, the two Subordinate/Earth/Fixed and Mutable natives – John Cody and Laura Boneham – leave the Game.

And these are the keywords that are applicable to Season 27. At the moment.

Physical and Intellectual
Leaders and Independents
Initiative

The Chart, then. And with it a Legend for the Roles and Modes. And below that is the Chart that pictures Tadhana and Galang – Then and Now.

Note: I hope to get back the Tribal Chart. The casting and the early play in this Season – twist aside – was fascinating and featured great characters. In the meantime, you are more than welcome to comment away.

And we’re almost there!

But, as our host has said (and said, and said … ), ‘First things, first’. And Redemption Island is just below. I’ve taken the liberty of sending John and Laura Boneham shopping (in Manila, I think) and Laura Morett back to the loving arms of a newly-merged Tribe.

Note: This is another of those things that I hope to get back to. I really would like to talk about the people who’ve left the room. Or read you talking about them. Or both would be fun!

Now and Then

So, we’re here. And it is so nice to be able to consolidate several streams of material into one pretty little chart.

The Majority Fire and Air Signs are at the top. Minority Earth and Water in the middle. And the Jury has reserved space at the bottom (that will grow as their numbers increase).

Links to the Season’s Individual Profiles

The Earth Signs – These three practical and industrious Signs are Capricorn, Taurus and Virgo.
The Water Signs – These three emotional and intuitive Signs are Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces.
The Fire Signs – These three charismatic and spontaneous Signs are Aries, Leo and Sagittarius.
The Air Signs – These three intellectual and balanced Signs are Libra, Gemini and Aquarius

The Compatibility Legend

The (Updated) Compatibility Chart

And now we know that at F11 the cast is composed of 4 (Physical) Fire and 4 (Intellectual) Air natives. And of 1 (Practical) Earth and 2 (Emotional) Water natives. A 73% (Complementary Fire and Air) – 27% (Complementary Earth and Water) split.

Now, there are 5 Superiors (Instinctively – Leaders), 4 Soloists (Instinctively – Independents) and 2 Subordinates (Instinctively – Supporters/Specialists). A 46% - 36% - 18% split.

And, now, at Kasama, there are 6 (Initiative) Cardinal Signs, 3 (Steadfast) Fixed Signs and only 2 (Versatile) Mutable Signs. A 55% - 27% - 18% split.

So, if we were going to apply descriptors to the new Tribe, they would still look like this:

Physical and Intellectual
Leaders and Independents
Initiative

Note: However, if we are to believe Survivor’s editors – and why wouldn’t we – while all of the (Initiative) Cardinal Signs other than Aras are tripping over themselves in their efforts not to play the Game and have arrived at this point by virtue of doing just that, Gervase (Scorpio, Superior, Fixed Water), Tyson (Gemini, Subordinate, Mutable Air) and (soon) Monica (also Gemini, Subordinate and Mutable Air) are about to run away with the Season.

We know, too, that the Fire and Air Majority will reach F10 with an 8 – 2 or 7 – 3 split in their favor. And that’s why the next two Charts appear here.

The first of the two originally appeared in my 2nd post to this thread and illustrates the history of the natural opposition of the complementary Elements of Earth and Water to the complementary Elements of Fire and Air within Survivor. And as you can see, its upper right contains that history for those Seasons that were cast with an even split between the two groups of Sun Signs. The lower left contains the same history for those Seasons that were cast with an Earth and Water Majority. And finally, the lower right portion of the Chart contains the history of the Fire and Air Majorities in the Game.

The Chart that follows it is specific to Fire and Air Majority Seasons and expands the information to include the histories of their F10 to F1 boots … so that we can follow along.

Who knows? Although - because the split is so lopsided it is doubtful that we’ll ever reach that point - perhaps we’ll be able to identify a boot here and there.

And finally, here are updated versions of the Charts that depict the individual Sun Signs’ performances in the Game. The first spans all of the 26 completed Seasons and the second is specific to Fire and Air Majority Seasons.

And looking at the latter, you would think that Aras or Caleb has it made, wouldn’t you? While a quick glance at the first could lead you to believe that Tina just might pull off a second stunner …

And now I’m off to see if I can’t put together Compatibility Profiles for our ‘Same-Sign’ couples: Monica and Tyson, Caleb and Aras and Hayden and Vytas before the show tonight.

Good Evening!

I love the Final Ten portion of the Game. And we're here.

Here, and in my case, hungry. So, I'm going to drop everything off and run over to McDonald's to pick up my wonderfully balanced dinner ...

But I will be back during the rest of the evening with Profiles and several observations about things of this Season that I think truly set it apart. And, of course, I'd love some company.

In the meantime:

Below is the new Tribal Chart with Aras off to Redemption. And of course the Redemption Island Chart follows. But, I tucked the Roles/Modes Legend in between.

Just below is the history of the Elements' performances in Fire and Air Majority Seasons.

The next few links are self-explanatory. And if I've missed something there is a link to last week's update that pretty much caught everything up.

Hi!

As you’ll see in a moment, I spent some time with TDT’s Calendar recently and thought that you might be interested to know that five members of this Season’s cast celebrated birthdays during its filming:

John – on Day 0 – May 12th
Monica – on Day 27 – June 15th
Tyson – on Day 29 – June 17th
Kat – on Day 34 – June 22nd
and
Katie – on Day 39 – June 27th

And finally! I’ve finished the Compatibility Profiles of Blood v Water’s remaining ‘natural’ (Same-Sign) couples and of the pairings that Monica so helpfully announced at Tribal Council. With them, I’ve included the Compatibility Profiles of the three ‘Loved Ones’ duos left in the Game. They’re arranged in the following order:

A. On The Loved Ones’ List, Monica’s List and The Same-Sign List – Laura and Ciera
B. On The Loved Ones’ List and Monica’s List – Tina and Katie, Aras and Vytas
C. On Monica’s List Only – Caleb and Hayden, Tyson and Gervase
D. On The Same-Sign List Only – Tyson and Monica, Vytas and Hayden, Aras and Caleb

Note: The first three are reprints from this Post containing the Compatibility Profiles for all ten of the couples appearing (or not) in
Blood v Water.

But, for a moment, I’d like to return briefly to the discussion of the Season’s overarching theme (and my trip to TDT’s).

Because if the initial question was, indeed, whether the nature and nurture of established personal relationships would ultimately triumph over the Game’s temptation to individual fame and fortune and the lure of partnerships-of-convenience, then its producers would have been hard-pressed to more effectively sabotage the gameplay and force the answer.

Here, assuming that TDT’s Calendar is correct, are the numbers:

We (the viewers) are now on the eve of Day 25. Two-thirds of the way through Blood v Water, And, following the first evening spent together in isolation from the other nine, only four of the Season’s ten couples have been permitted any time – together – in the Game. They are:

Candice and John – who spent 2 ½ days together on Redemption Island before leaving the Game.

Vytas and Aras – who spent 2 ¾ days together at Kasama and who have now spent an additional 2 ½ days together on Redemption Island – and who are still (together) in the Game.

Tina and Katie – who spent 10 ¾ days together at Galang and Kasama – and who are still (separately) in the Game.

Laura and Ciera – who have spent 6 days together at Kasama – and who are still (together) in the Game.

So, of this Season’s 362 player-days (shown-to-date) only 49 have been played by members of an in-tact/in-contact/together couple.

And while I gratefully acknowledge that the casting scheme has produced some vivid Redemption Island repartee, interesting inter-tribal dynamics and more engaging tales than usual, I will never understand why it wasn’t given the chance to be as riveting as it might have been. I truly can’t decide if it is their players, their audience or their product that the people who manage Survivor have come to distrust the most.

That said (I promise, for the last time) here are the Profiles followed by individual posts of my own observations of the Season’s Survivors. Join in!

Late Note: Although Sheldor has spoiled this Episode’s Redemption Island evictee and its Tribal Council boot, I won’t reveal them in this Post. I will, however, discuss them in the individual posts (and follow-ups) after midnight … tonight. .

Simpatico: Because they share the same Sun Sign, their emotional natures are so similar that it's uncanny.
These relationships are usually intense.

Both are proud, vibrant and warm - but rather self-centered - individuals. And both want to be the center of attention.

Joining Leo forces is like creating a binary star but the question in this relationship often becomes ‘who will dominate who’?

And Capricorn may seem dry and perhaps overly ambitious to the Cancer.

Libra is also very sociable and needs to explore conversation and people generally.

Attracts: Their Sun signs are opposite. They find each other fascinating and frustrating. At the same time!

The Fire Sign of Aries is completely opposite to Libra and some astrologers believe that this combination is a good match. That’s probably because opposites usually attract. This is only partly true and you need to look more closely at this combination: the emotional styles are sometimes poles apart.

Air-Libra and Fire-Aries

Note: The Profile above (for Caleb and Hayden) is not a mistake. It just happens that their birthdays and those of Aras and Vytas are so close together that the Profiles available are virtually identical.

Paradox: If an attraction exists, it's magnetic and binding. But it's hard to find the reason for it and a great deal of fine-tuning is necessary to its success.

This Gemini will need to prepare himself for the intensity of Scorpio. Because, while the Gemini is an intellectual in a lighthearted, frivolous way, Scorpio natives are into depth and radical transformation and become extremely involved emotionally with particular people, places and things. Gemini, by contrast, takes life in a lighter vein and usually does not become as emotionally involved and attached to things as does Scorpio.

The result is that the Scorpio may come to feel that the Gemini is superficial, evasive, childish and naïve and the Gemini may come to the conclusion that Scorpio is too heavy, intense and demanding. And the facts are that a Scorpio native thrives on direct experiences and is best suited to a life style that involves non-vicarious, non-intellectual activities of a forceful, instinctive, or natural kind (preferably using one's hands) while Gemini’s approach is more cerebral, less focused and more varied. The disparity between the two approaches is great and the two will need to strive to make their differences complement – rather than interfere with – each other.

So, Scorpio is not going to be happy with idle discussion - with just skimming the surface of a multitude of topics as Gemini love to do. Scorpio will compulsively probe the deeper significance of everything, and pretty soon this could all seem too much too serious and intrusive for the now uneasy Gemini. But, if he is willing to put up with the sometimes relentless grilling by the Scorpio, the Gemini may learn things about himself that he never knew.

And he could try to coax Scorpio out of his tough, inflexible approach and into a brighter, more easygoing attitude to particular situations — possibly even to life itself. But a Gemini’s level of optimism may start to exasperate the Scorpio. Scorpio’s possessiveness and jealousy aren’t a good match with the Air native’s cheerful and adaptable approach and finding a happy balance would mean a lot of adjustments on both sides. So when you get down to the nitty-gritty, this combination is usually not strong enough to keep an abiding friendship going.

Note: But, despite the fact that a social/intimate partnership of this particular Gemini and Scorpio would be the most challenging of the all-unfortunate Gemini/Scorpio combinations – due, in large part, to the Gemini’s infatuation with choices and decisions designed to shock – the meld of Gemini finesse and Scorpio determination can be an effective formula for successful professional relationships.

Air-Gemini and Water-Scorpio

Simpatico: Because they share the same Sun Sign, their emotional natures are so similar that it's uncanny.
These relationships are usually intense.

Because both have a natural affinity with communication, they connect really easily. These are curious, witty, and talkative people who don't take life as seriously as most other people. Variety and change are the bread and butter of their lives and although they may occasionally wish that life was more settled and less hectic, both know that such an existence would be much too dull for them!

In social settings, two Gemini will often spend hours talking, sharing ideas, exchanging entertaining stories and generally enjoying each other’s company. Like children, they love to explore the new and different and, like children, become easily bored.

And both will appreciate the fact that the other not only communicates effectively but is also quite mentally capable. Ideas and concepts that stimulate creativity and idealism will bounce back and forth effortlessly.

The weak spot in this relationship stems from the fact that Gemini, being a Mutable Air Sign, is not very grounded. One will have to anchor the other. And that is difficult because both have a tendency to skim the surface of a topic — rather than to explore it comprehensively.

If the relationship is an intimate one, issues of money, stability and security will need to be discussed sooner rather than later. Although they are certainly not a Gemini’s favorite topics, they willhave to give them some consideration.

It’s also vital to the relationship, no matter what its nature, that both get in touch with their emotions. Basically ‘Air Heads’ – both have restless minds and that can be very hard on a friendship. And because they tend to ‘live in their heads’ and avoid paying attention to feelings, together, they may get caught up in word games, intellectual sparring and light banter. They often use humor to gloss over serious topics and deep emotional issues.

Nor are tenacity and determination Gemini’s strong suits. They are often too ready to give up (on a project or a relationship) when it becomes difficult or demanding.

Note: Monica’s and Tyson’s birthdays are June 15th and 17th and Gemini born between 13 June and 21 June could help each other resolve personal issues (or bring them to the fore). So, if either or both of them usually find it difficult to share their private concerns, they may discover that it is easy to do that with each other. This is quite a good match for both.

Air-Gemini

Simpatico: Because they share the same Sun Sign, their emotional natures are so similar that it's uncanny.
These relationships are usually intense.

These are both very fiery and demanding individuals, so ego clashes are likely to dominate their partnership if they can’t calm down. They are both always sure they are right, too. So, seeing eye to eye will be difficult.

However, the Aries double has a lot going for it. For a start, both are spontaneous and impulsive. Also, both are creative individuals and sparks of inspiration will fly between them. The combination is dynamic, bold, and exciting. As partners, they will make a great impact so long as they don’t spend half their time and energy competing with each other.

But both are independent individuals who don’t like feeling that they are being ‘bossed’ by anyone and will demand to make their own decisions and to direct their own lives and associations. They will, though, usually respect one another's autonomy: a relationship that is based on excessive ‘togetherness’ and any sort of dependency wouldn't suit either.

Sometimes, though, there is too much emphasis on individualism to sufficiently support the partnership. Both are sensitive to criticism and will almost inevitably compete with each other. And while in small doses this can be invigorating, it can easily become nasty.

But if the relationship has been built on the basis that the two are equals, the Fire element produces tremendous vision and industry and will work well to support each other’s aspirations and ambitions. If both learn to subdue ego and find common ground, it should be natural for them to encourage each other in work and social pursuits. Plus, there is an adolescent innocence about their friendship that enables them to enjoy a wide variety of recreational activities together. .

In brief: they will either respect one another immensely or detest one another – and only in rare instances will there be an ‘in between’.

Note: Given their birthdates, this Aries/Aries relationship could be a very stormy one.

Fire-Aries

Simpatico: Because they share the same Sun Sign, their emotional natures are so similar that it's uncanny.
These relationships are usually intense.

Libra is a Cardinal, initiative Sign motivated by the Air element, which means that decision-making can be quite a challenge for both. And while their emotional and mental compatibility is certainly strong, they have to work at the practical aspects of life. By and large, compatibility between people of the same Sign is either superb or doomed to utter failure. For Libra it depends on how capable they are of finding balance, especially in the decision-making area. So, this is an area where two Libra in partnership raises some rather important questions.

Both invest enormous energy and time into personal relationships and for both an experience isn't really satisfying unless it is shared. Both are tactful, diplomatic and charming and possess a very strong desire for harmony in relationships. However, because both tend to want to please everyone all of the time – to be liked by everyone – they will often avoid taking strong, decisive stands or directly confronting thorny interpersonal problems. Wanting things to be nice, pretty, and pleasant they tend to adapt their own preferences or to change their position to accommodate others.

However, both Libra will usually also have a highly developed sense of fairness, balance, and proportion. So, equality is very important to the partnership and in this relationship (as perhaps in no other) it is very improbable that either will dominate. But, they will both have to learn to be more decisive and to stick to their opinions. Or at least to agree on a course of action even when they have differing views and to take on only the practical tasks that they know that they can do.

Too, it’s not a well-known fact, but Libra has a revolutionary spirit, and is often demanding. The notion that they are always calm and placid couldn’t be further from the truth. They want peace and harmony, but wanting and having it are two different things.

And sometimes Libra lose themselves in the hectic flow of life and social events and forget to take care of emotional issues so the two will need to try not to let conflicts or grudges fester — they could undermine what is otherwise a perfectly fine partnership. However, irrespective of any difficulties, both are usually upbeat and easy-going .

Note: Born on September 26th and 27th, Aras and Caleb both have warm and affectionate personalities and are capable of being fond and enduring friends.

About Laura, Ciera and Rachel

The Season’s theme is about to arrive center-stage once again via the mother-daughter relationship between two Leo. And after reviewing the Compatibility Profile for Laura and Ciera and the linked Leo Profile, I can’t think of a pair better suited to the task of proving that love, honor, honesty, dignity, self-respect and loyalty are no match for Survivor. Or that they are.

From the latter Profile:

‘At first, it’s hard not to like those with the Sun in Leo with their open hearted, friendly ways. When standing proudly before adoring fans (or co-workers), they project a warmth that has a palpable power to win hearts and minds …

(However), after getting to know a Leo, you’ll discover that they’re very loyal: to themselves. You can come up against severe resistance if you try to bend the will of a Leo for the sake of a relationship. Their reputation for being ‘diva-difficult’ is well-earned. But, because so many of them grab the gusto and achieve their lofty goals, in the end their stubborn self-regard usually elicits widespread respect.’

I like Leo. I admire their (cat-like) attractive and impervious personalities. They usually make me smile. About them and about me and about the world at-large. For instance (and I often refer to US Presidents because their very public lives insure that theirs are personalities that we all ‘know’):

Benjamin Harrison, Bill Clinton and Barak Obama have been our three Leo Presidents. And I’m a Republican who didn’t vote for either of the latter two men. To say that I don’t embrace their politics is a radical understatement.

But I have yet to ever watch a speech by President Clinton without finding myself smiling back at his image on my television screen. No matter what he’s done to put himself there …

Sometimes I even catch myself nodding in agreement – on cue. And that’s scary.

So, I’ll admit a soft spot for even the most egocentric – ‘Let them eat cake!’ – of the Sign’s natives. ‘Of course Laura-stretched-indolently-in-a-hammock thinks that she is part of your alliance!’ I wanted to say to Aras. ‘It would never occur to her that you did not consider her to be its most valuable member.’

And, although no other Leo Survivor has ever quite captured Sandra’s unique nonchalance, I admired Laura’s composure when she was voted out of Galang. Leo meltdowns have been rare. But when they have happened they have been memorable: Amanda and Kathleen come to mind.

And Sherea (China) – the poster-child for this excerpt from the Leo Profile – ‘However, a Leo’s faults can be as large in scale as are his virtues and an excessively negative Leo can be a very unpleasant human being. These Leos will not hesitate to use cunning, lies and trickery to discredit their adversaries. Narcissism, greed for flattery, bombast, pomposity and snobbish superiority can also be characteristic of Leo’ – will always be the Survivor I most detest.

But (back to the Presidents), I also have to admit that I don’t react the same way in President Obama’s televised presence. Fortunately for my shrinking political party, it leaves me quite unimpressed - enough to remember why I’m a Republican …

And I think that’s true because there is a whiff of entitlement – a sort of ‘snobbish superiority’ – about Mr. Obama that, although it is present with all Leo, is, in him, to me, inescapably, prominently unattractive. Even at that distance.

Ciera, I think, has that same aura of expecting seas to part for her passage if only she can manage to keep someone else - in this case, her mother - from screwing up her destiny. And the nice thing is that, if we keep on tuning in, we'll be rewarded by seeing just how that works out for Ciera ...

Rachel was this Season’s third Leo. But it is very difficult to find much more to say about her other than that she played her walk-on (to Tyson’s lead) with dignity and that, for what little my opinion is worth, there seemed to be a genuine affection between the two that surprised me.

With that, here again, is the link to the Post that contains the ten original Compatibility Profiles – including Tyson’s and Rachel’s.

Hello!

Below are the current 'charts' for Signs .... And I truly hope to be able to add additional comment later this week. Had I known just how chaotic things here were about to become, I wouldn't have begun the thread this Season. But, it is what it is, and I hope you've enjoyed it thus far.

I did want to mention that the 'anniversary' that I referred to several posts ago was Laura Morett's:

When I posted, TDT's Calendar(s) indicated that she was voted out of Samoa on the same day of filming (and in the same Episode Ten) as she departed from Kasama in Blood vs Water. The Calendar(s) now show a difference of one day. In any event, I thought that our host might find that ironic enough to remind her of it ...

Too, I'll point out that I've updated both of the Signs Charts a bit differently so that it's easier to track just how they (in the form of the individuals playing the Game) are performing this Season in comparison to their histories (for all of the completed Seasons and for only those Seasons with Fire and Air Majorities) in the Game. The names of the players still active in the Season are in black. The names of those who have left it (really) are in red.

Anyone you know?

Anyone you know ?(II)

Although I'm beginning to believe that they aren't kidding around about Tyson winning this thing, I'm still looking forward to the remainder of the Season. And hoping for one or two surprises yet to come. We certainly have a mix of personalities capable of producing them. For instance (from the Scorpio/Gervase's Sun Sign Profile):

"Scorpio are deeply sensitive and easily moved by their emotions.

That’s why in relationships of any kind they are a formidable enemy if betrayed."

ETA: As the Profile says (and as I said earlier regarding his partnership with his niece), in any collaboration, the Scorpio instinctively considers himself to be its "leader". So is it any wonder that Hayden's assessment of his relationship to Tyson infuriated Gervase?

No wonder Gervase went nuts, he felt he was the leader yet admits to thinking he was controlling Tyson (hand up the back comment). Is this delusional thinking or can't he help himself. It also helps shed light on his Borneo season.

Thanks Georj for working so hard on this, I find it fascinating. Has there been any hint that the birth signs are considered when choosing contestants?

I should be watched....closely.

Suzzee ...

I am so glad that you are enjoying the thread. I think that we can know a lot about the behaviors that we are going to see in any given Season by reviewing Astrology's published studies of its twelve social categories/groups and by the record of their performances within the Game.

We will never be privy to the reports generated by the show's psychological examination of its contestants, but there is all sorts of evidence, I think, that we have access to the next best thing. And I wish I had more time to compose a decent reply to your question ... today. But I'm in the middle of a minor family crisis and only have a few minutes.

In short:

Yes, I think that there are connections between Astrology's Sun Sign profiling and Survivor/s contestant screening and casting. And, in the past, there have been several Challenges based upon the Chinese and Western Zodiacs.

But the whole subject (of the connections) deserves better than an "In short", so I hope that you'll give me a raincheck good for a week or so.

I will be back.

I echo Suzzee's sentiment of gratitude for your hard work on this. Interesting, even to a skeptic.

I wonder if, after the season has concluded, you would care to make a guess of which signs you would assume that we would under, based on our RTVW postings.

Hello!

Thank you. And I would love to. And will.

But there are several of our number who have identified their Sun Signs through the Seasons. So I should warn everyone that, in those instances, I won't be above cheating ...

I've been reading through this thread and noticed Ciera is listed as a Leo and her birthday is March 5th. Her profile here http://survivor.wikia.com/wiki/Ciera_Eastin shows this. She should be listed as a Pisces.
