LAST EDITED ON 12-27-12 AT 07:41 AM (EST)

Good Evening ...

I haven’t been particularly fond of Survivor: Philippines. But I have been fascinated by the interplay of its personalities. So I’ve put together this last-minute, abbreviated Signs of Survival just in case other members might enjoy a peek at the Final Four from my perspective.

And I might be back a little later with posthumous decorations …

MALCOLM FREBERG – EARTH/TAURUS
TAURUS SOLE SURVIVORS – NATALIE WHITE

THE TAURUS PROFILE
Positive Traits

Patient and Loyal
Warmhearted and Loving
Persistent and Determined
Rooted and Sensuous
Negative Traits
Jealous and Possessive
Resentful and Inflexible
Self-indulgent and Greedy
Slow and Brooding

This Sign’s characteristics are solidity, practicality, extreme determination and strength of will - no one will ever drive Taurus, but they will willingly and loyally follow a leader they trust. They are stable, balanced, conservative and law-abiding citizens and lovers of peace (possessing all the best qualities of the bourgeoisie). They will do everything in their power to maintain the security of the status quo.

So, on rare occasions a Taurus may be an obstinately and exasperatingly self-righteous, unoriginal, rigid, ultraconservative, argumentative and querulous boor: stuck in a self-centered rut. And, whether their characters are positive or negative, they need someone to stroke their egos with a frequent, "Well Done!" Luckily, Taurus has a knack for attracting praise. It is amazing how people will bend over backwards to please them.

They are faithful and generous friends with a great capacity for affection. But Taurus rarely establish intimacies outside their social rank (to which they are ordinarily excessively loyal). And in the main, they are gentle, even-tempered, good-natured, modest and slow to anger. If they are provoked, however, they can explode into violent, uncontrolled outbursts. Lurking within every serene Taurus is the potential for a seething rage that re-establishes a sense of order by force. Equally unexpected are their occasional sallies into humor and exhibitions of fun.

Those with the Sun in Taurus can be the most down-to-Earth of the Signs, so naturally they revel in earthly pleasures. Taurus has a strong aesthetic taste. And allied to his appreciation of all things beautiful is a love for the good things of life: pleasure, comfort, luxury and good food and wine. Their sensuality is legendary, whether they’re cooking up a sumptuous feast or turning on their tantalizingly slow charm.

More firmly rooted in the physical world than the other Signs, Sun in Taurus can be as immovable as a mountain: it’s hard to get a Taurus to rush into anything and that can be frustrating to everyone else. But once they make a decision, it’s usually a sound one. And that same stubborn deliberateness keeps Taurus fixed on a goal long after others have given up. Moreover, these natives don’t like to be pushed around by what they consider flights of fancy. Changes in their surroundings or routines disturb their equilibrium. And if the change is too abrupt or fundamental to his comfort, the shock may be too much for the Bull. He may actually become physically ill.

Taurus are known as the “builders” of the Zodiac and in their work they are industrious and ambitious: unafraid of getting their hands dirty and at their best in routine positions of trust and responsibility where there is little need of urgency, little risk of change and a pension at the end. Yet they are creative and are also often founders of enterprises where the fruits are of their own labors.

Romantically Speaking: Taurus are motivated by a desire for material and emotional security and when they’ve found a suitable partner they’ll stay put where they are and carefully cultivate a stable, deeply rooted life. Respect them and allow them to take their sweet time doing things, and all will be well.

On the down side, their reluctance to discard the familiar can sometimes cause Taurus to linger in a relationship that they’ve outgrown.

DENISE STAPLEY – FIRE/SAGITTARIUS
SAGITTARIUS SOLE SURVIVORS – VECEPIA TOWERY

THE SAGITTARIUS PROFILE
Positive Traits

Optimistic and Freedom-loving
Curious and Sporting
Good-humored and Straightforward
Expansive and Philosophical
Negative Traits
Blindly-optimistic and Careless
Irresponsible and Superficial
Flippant and Promiscuous
Tactless and Restless

Sagittarius have a positive outlook on life and are full of enterprise, energy, versatility and adventure: eager to extend experience beyond the physically familiar. They delight in travel and exploration: Sagittarius are genuinely intrigued by foreign cultures and even when their finances preclude traipsing the globe Sagittarius travel in their minds.

And their bright, cheerful demeanors can be disarming. It’s an uncomplicated style that invites you to drop your defenses, too, and just “be.” This makes for a fun friend who knows all the best ethnic restaurants and will be more than happy to stay out ‘til the wee hours.

Ambitious and optimistic (even when their hopes are dashed), their strongly idealistic natures are able to withstand disappointments without being affected. They are usually honorable, honest, trustworthy, truthful, generous and sincere (with a passion for justice). They are characteristically on the side of the underdog and are prepared to be rebellious.

Non-conformists, Sagittarius hate being bound to rigid social confines or pigeonholed into strict routines that don't give them plenty of breathing room. Even more than physical restrictions, they'll loathe mental confinement. Sagittarius have both profound and broad minds: equipped with foresight, good judgment and keen intuition. As a result, they are often fascinating conversationalists and correspondents. Think Mark Twain. Think Sagittarius.

Known, too, for their spontaneous philosophical ramblings, these natives don’t seem to get bogged down in emotional complexities. So those who love them may wish for more depth: more feeling. And there are times when they are shockingly blunt. It’s unnerving to be the target of a direct hit. But that same tactless personality can be a beacon of light in confusing times. Leave it to a Sagittarius to step into a messy tangle and sum up the situation with blinding clarity. They’ll be willing to speak the truth when all others hide in confusion. This makes them invaluable friends who can guide you back to a clear path when you need honesty rather than enabling.

And in a curious twist of fate, Sagittarius, who are often accused of clumsiness, are also credited with extraordinary grace and coordination when engaged in purposeful physical activity: most particularly sports and dance. In everyday activities, however, the Sagittarian can be surprisingly less dignified. Though the December-born athlete may break the record for high jump, he'll stumble over his shoelaces walking onto the field.

Sagittarius are much more adept at adapting than inventing and are at their best when working with colleagues whose talents compliment, rather than compete with, their own. But Sagittarius can sometimes be exacting, domineering and inconsiderate in the work place: scorning the inadequacies of others while expecting fulsome recognition of their own skills and effort.

Moreover, they can be (and frequently are) impulsively angry. And, when angry, both male and female Sagittarians can be vicious: employing with precision those words or actions that will most severely wound their adversary. On the other hand, they are magnanimous in forgiving offenses and quick to make amends for their own intemperance.

Romantically Speaking: The same notable physicality that attracts Sagittarius to vigorous athletics and bold travel-adventures often extends to their intimate relationships and their flexible, lusty, anything-goes attitude can cause them to take a walk on the wild side.

So, the ideal partner for them is above all a friend and a partner in life’s great adventure who understands the needs of a true free spirit.

However, more apt then the average to make an uncongenial alliance, their innate restlessness (which, if excessive, often jeopardizes more than their own stability) will often compel them to use even the most satisfying ménage as a base from which to … depart.

MICHAEL SKUPIN – AIR/AQUARIUS
AQUARIUS SOLE SURVIVORS – JENNA MORASCA, TODD HERZOG, YUL KWAN

THE AQUARIUS PROFILE
Positive Traits

Friendly and Humanitarian
Progressive and Pioneering
Original and Inventive
Eccentric, Independent and Intellectual
Negative Traits
Intractable and Dogmatic
Perverse and Unpredictable
Unemotional and Detached
Isolated

The Sun in Aquarius has been called the “rebel” of the Zodiac because of their total commitment to their unique vision. They’re uncompromisingly anchored in their own lives and grant that same autonomy to others.

And, because Aquarius instinctively appreciate diversity and have a sustaining confidence in their own convictions, they are extremely tolerant of the behaviors and opinions of others. So, with an innate sense that everyone should “do their own thing”, Aquarius often seem to be detached – and friendly – at the same time.

Noted for their altruistic and progressive natures, Aquarius possess strong-willed, forceful and attractive personalities that present themselves as one or the other of two core types: the first shy, sensitive, gentle and patient; the second exuberant, lively and exhibitionist. Both types are humane, frank, serious-minded, genial, refined and often ethereal and idealistic. The last quality, however, is tempered with a sensible practicality.

So, while the Aquarian nature is known as eccentric, that is only because it follows that personal golden thread of inspiration to the limits. Another name for this could be genius, since it pushes out into the road less traveled and then goes yet further. And while this sometimes leads to great achievement, there’s always a chance that it can also lead to isolation. However, quick, active and persevering (usually interacting with others with reason, moderation and good humor), the native’s distain for the status quo – unlike the social activism of Sagittarius or the overt revolt of Aries – is most usually held in check by a quiet optimism: that things, given time and patient crusade, will improve.

Rather, his more subtle rebellion most usually manifests itself in unconventional dress or grooming, erratic behaviors and wry (devastating) sarcasm.

Too, despite the magnetic, forthcoming and open personality of the extrovert Aquarius and the humanistic traits of both types, neither makes friends readily. They do not give themselves easily - perhaps their judgment of human nature is too good for that - and are sometimes accounted condescending and cold. Even in the intimate companionship that they instinctively seek, they are fiercely independent. They dislike interference by others, however helpfully intended, and will accept it only on their own terms. But once they decide that another is worthy of their friendship, Aquarius are tenacious and extraordinarily loyal compatriots.

However, if they are deceived their anger is terrible. And if disillusioned (usually because their own idealism causes them to demand more of others than is reasonable) Aquarius do not forgive.

Aquarius work most effectively within a group environment provided that they are recognized as having a leading role in the project. They’re tuned into a different frequency, and have a vast mindscape that seems to make them self-sufficient. In other words, they’re happy to spend time alone. Yet as a sign of paradoxes, the Aquarius is also drawn to groups and “communities.” Able to quickly identify the undercurrents of gatherings, they are adept at helping people act together to accomplish a goal. They’re usually at the forefront of a cause: often before it becomes safe or fashionable.

Aquarius have a feeling of unity with nature and a desire for knowledge and truth that makes them admirable scientists: most especially astronomers and natural historians. These are the ones with a faraway look, most likely thinking brilliant and futuristic thoughts. Their minds seem to roam the outer edges of what is possible, and many of them make the impossible a reality as pioneers in science and technology.

And their quirky, wholly original take on life gives them an edge should they venture into the Arts. The Aquarius talent for mimicry and parody serves them well as character actors or comedians. Their avant-garde tendencies are often expressed in writing (most usually poetry), public service broadcasting and musical innovation. And their altruism may find its voice in welfare fields or education.

Romantically Speaking: The Aquarius remains a sovereign being who needs an intellectual rapport to sustain a romance. An ideal mate inhabits a parallel universe and from it is able to accept the physical and mental distances that the Aquarius personality imposes. And it is often very surprising to see how much love can grow in the space between two people.

LISA WHELCHEL – AIR/GEMINI
GEMINI SOLE SURVIVORS – JUD “FABIO” BIRZA

THE GEMINI PROFILE
Positive Traits

Adaptable and Versatile
Eloquent and Witty
Intellectual and Engaging
Charming, Youthful and Lively
Negative Traits
Nervous and Restless
Superficial and Inconsistent
Cunning and Duplicitous
Rumor-Mongering

Gemini, the Sign of the Twins, is dual-natured, elusive, complex and contradictory. To them, life is a game that must always be full of fresh moves and continuous entertainment and free of labor and routine. Charmers and clowns, they often wear a silly grin that seems to say that they get the cosmic joke that all is, after all, well: it’s really okay to sample everything from the smorgasbord of life.

And, since they’re always finding something absurd to giggle over, you might hear the laughter of Gemini Suns before you see them. They’re great wits and their interest in people often thrusts them into the role of social ice breaker.

Their good qualities are attractive and come easily to them. They are affectionate, courteous, kind, generous, and thoughtful - provided none of the activities resulting from expressing these traits interferes too greatly with their own lives and comforts. And in social situations, even at their worst they are never dull - there is usually playfulness below the surface and they can be exhilarating conversationalists.

However, often referred to as the dilettante of the Zodiac because they’ll try anything once and usually do, the Gemini needs to be able to reinvent himself many times and to follow the threads of inspiration wherever they lead. And that innate quality can make these natives seem restless and inconsistent.

So, although Gemini may be hard to pin down and a bit challenging to deal with, if you can accept the shape-shifting nature of their personalities, they make excellent friends.

But be warned that like chameleons, they absorb and reflect every change in their environment and can become pessimistic, sullen, peevish and self-centered prattlers, boasters, liars and cheats if circumstances force them to struggle in any way.

Gemini have a keen and intuitive intelligence. They love cerebral challenges and though they dislike the labor of learning, their mental agility, energy and insatiable curiosity afford them a voracious appetite for knowledge. Many Gemini become veritable walking encyclopedias. And if a Gemini finds a subject worthy of his incredible kaleidoscopic mind, these individuals have the capacity to become masters of an art or science.

So, although their intellect is strongly analytical and sometimes gives them so great an ability to see both sides of a question that they vacillate and find it hard to make decisions, their cleverness and ingenuity may also very well be used to control and unify the duality of their natures into a most efficient unit. If faced with difficulties, they have little determination to worry at a problem until they find a solution - they will pick the brains of others.

Any work that combines quick-wittedness with a change of surroundings suits Gemini. They are often skilled manipulators of language and are usually very successful diplomats, academics, authors, poets, journalists and lawyers (albeit they are more brilliant than profound and more interested in theory than in practice). And any and every sales venue is, of course, sweet home to them.

Romantically Speaking: The Gemini knows that the world is vast and full of endless fascinations to explore and so they need an intellectual rapport with their mate. The ideal companions for them are individuals who think at their same speed of light.

They need a certain kind of space to grow, and those who do manage to stay close to Gemini don’t try to hold on too tightly. Because, if the door of a relationship is open for them to come and go at will, they’ll usually, over time, prove their own brand of faithfulness.

Below is the profile for a Sign that I think was extremely influential in the Season's dynamics. Note: I haven’t yet identified Sun Signs for RC, Carter, Katie or Roxanne. So it is possible that there were more than four Pisces in its camps.

JONATHAN, JEFF, ZANE AND PETE – WATER/PISCES

THE PISCES PROFILE
Positive Traits

Romantic and Sensitive
Compassionate and Idealistic
Imaginative and Unworldly
Intuitive and Creative
Negative Traits
Escapist and Self-Indulgent
Secretive and Vague
Weak-willed and Gullible
Impressionable and Overwhelmed
Petulant

Pisceans are deservedly popular with all kinds of people in part because their easygoing, affectionate, malleable and submissive natures offer no threat or challenge to stronger and more exuberant characters. But they will not be able to maintain for very long friendships or associations with those who are too materialistic.

As the last of the twelve Zodiac Signs, Pisces is said to contain aspects of them all. This makes the Pisces Sun so changeable as to appear not to have one singular identity. It's as if they merely touch down in this human reality and remain only long enough to try on a few personas. Consequently, those with the Sun in Pisces can seem to be "somewhere else" half the time.

And because their natures are often too otherworldly for practical purposes – they tend to exist emotionally rather than rationally and instinctively rather than intellectually – the nine-to-five life is not easy for them.

So it is important for these individuals to find a sense of purpose in order to avoid just drifting: their sensitivity makes them more vulnerable to escapism through addictions or personal dramas than are other Signs. The challenge to Pisces natives, then, is to somehow integrate their affinity with the more subtle planes into constructive working relationships.

Fortunately, Pisceans are usually versatile and intuitive; quickly master new skills; observe and listen well; and are receptive to new ideas and atmospheres. And all these factors can combine to produce remarkable creativity in literature, music and art. This is the sign of the mystic poet, and a creative pursuit gives Pisces the motivation to be disciplined. And bringing structure to the vast imagination and shades of emotion flowing within the Pisces nature is a great achievement.

Similarly, in medicine and social work, Pisceans find an outlet for their empathy and mercy while their professional statures curb the likelihood of their being taken advantage of. And, if they're typical March-born, they are not elitists: saint, sinner, murderer, thief, liar, rich or poor - deserving or undeserving - the Piscean instinctively recognizes the worth of the individual and can overlook the apparent causes of their circumstances.

But the fact that the Pisces Sun leads with a compassionate heart can be both a blessing and a curse. Many are remarkably wise and self-sacrificing when it comes to helping the vulnerable or those down on their luck. But this noble trait can take them down a path of being used and abused before they learn to set strong boundaries and they are better working either by themselves or in subordinate positions. Most would be afraid to manage more than a small department, worrying always that they would fail in a crisis.

Romantically speaking: Pisces fare well with a guiding-hand type who understands the fluidity of their nature. And life with a Pisces means having a bridge to unseen worlds of the heart and imagination. Awesome!

Thanks for this, Georjanna!

Abi-Maria Gomes, October 21, 1979

Libra with Scorpio Moon

Denise a Sag, well there is the bluntness. No sign does blunt better.
I think Vecepia was the only previous Sag winner, but Stephenie La Grossa is also a Sag, as is Julie Berry.

Malcolm a lone Earth sign in the F5 with 3 Air signs and a Fire sign. Actually makes him not the best fit with this "blow with the wind" group. A couple other Taurus guys on Survivor were Bobby Jon Drinkard, Mick Trimming, and Austen Carty (PEI).

Skupin has always been a different drummer kind of guy. One of numerous Aquarians to play Survivor.

Lisa a Gemini, twins, like two different people. Yes that fits.
Previous Geminis: Elizabeth Filarski Hasselbeck, Lex Van den Berghe, Danielle Di Lorenzo, Fabio (Judson Birza),

Sag here as well!

Thanks for taking the time to put this together, G! I'll admit to not really understanding and being in tune with the signs and all, but is there a way to pigeonhole certain signs with elements into "likely to do _________ on Survivor" types? Are there signs that most closely correlate to villains? Narrators? Etc.

Hello, Pepe!

Over the past couple of days I've - sporadically - attempted to compose an answer to your questions, including: "… is there a way to pigeonhole certain signs with elements into "likely to do ___________ on Survivor" types? …".

And it's going to be a really great answer ...

But every time I'm tempted to click "Post Message" I'm stopped by the fact that I may be drawing a blank: I'm not absolutely certain what you would like to see in that space.

So if you have a moment, could you drop me an example of the line completed as you envisioned?

As to the rest of your message:

I've never really looked at the Signs' Survivor historical data vis a vis the show's Roles. But I think doing that would be a really fun "project" to which everyone can contribute.

As I've said in the reply that you haven't seen yet, just the conversations generated by contributors' lists of Narrators, Villains, etc. will be worth the price of admission. Thank you for the idea. An infusion of curiosity was just what was needed 'round here.

Looking forward to hearing from you so that I can post ... and get on with decking the halls. If I hurry I'll be done by New Years.

G

Hi G! (and OFG)

Glad to see much, much more meat to ponder over as things go along for the upcoming season, and hopefully there's some new ways of looking at contestants that may help predict what might unfold in terms of relationships or tendencies, etc.

What I meant was whether there's a way to predict that certain signs would behave in certain ways - i.e. are some signs more likely to be thinkers, analysts, troublemakers, appeasers, alpha-males, quiet reserved types, femme fatales, villains, angry with a chip on the shoulder, etc. than other signs?

Probably too much to ask for a general outline of every sign type but I see that you've already touched upon certain traits attached to some signs (i.e. Brandon being a Libra and saying you don't want to bait an air sign, etc.) so that's kind of what I was going for.

Keep up the great work! I can only imagine how much work it must be for both you and OFG to tap into all the permutations behind the signs, elements and Chinese lunar signs.

Pepe,

Thank you for your quick reply. And I do apologize for taking so long to get back to you. It’s been the usual Christmas madhouse here. But, I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Now …

My short answer to your question is an emphatic “Yes!. But I hope we can have fun with the long answer for the entire Survivor: Caramoan Season. And I’ll be back shortly to get started with that - long answer.

Because I certainly do think that Astrology’s Sun and Moon Profiles and their analysis can be enormously useful in our efforts to predict the behaviors of individual Survivors and their potential for success/failure at pivotal points within a given Season. In fact, I think that nothing less than priority access to the end product of the Survivors’ psychological profiling and to the show’s archival performance charts would be more effective.

As OFG says in a post below, “The Sun and the Moon are the real nature of the self. Survivor tends to strip people down to their core, so the sun and moon signs really are useful.” And I am so grateful that OFG has decided to post to the topic. Because her contributions will be so much better informed – and orthodox – than my own Survivor-centric offerings.

However, I'm certain that everyone is pretty much prepared for the fact that I’m not about to let the quality of my opinions stand in the way of my offering a quantity of them ...

In the meantime, your wish is my command …

Post #13 still contains, as it did, the Names, the Elements and the Sun and Moon Signs for the Survivor: Caramoan Favorites

But, Post #14 now contains the Profiles for all of the Earth Signs: Capricorn (Cochran and Corinne), Taurus (Malcolm and Andrea) and Virgo (Absent from the Favorites)

And Post #15 now contains the Profiles for all of the Water Signs: Cancer (Dawn), Scorpio (Francesca and Brenda) and Pisces (Phillip)

Post #16 now contains the Profiles for all of the Fire Signs: Aries (Absent from the Favorites), Leo (Absent from the Favorites) and Sagittarius (Erik)

And Post #17 now contains the Profiles for all of the Air Signs: Libra (Brandon), Aquarius (Absent from the Favorites) and Gemini (Absent from the Favorites)

I've also put in links to the Favorites individual Moon Signs.

And while the Profiles paint the Zodiac’s twelve personalities with a broad what-to-look-for brush, it is the personalities acting and reacting within the Game that furnish the finer, what-you-have-seen-is-what-you-are-most-likely-to-see , Survivor-specific, patterns of traits and behaviors.

So, with the Profile for each Sign, there is now a list of its natives who have played the Game from Season One thru Twenty-Two. Note: I am in the process of identifying the Signs for Seasons 23- 25. And I would rather be accurate about less than wrong about more.

But before I leave for a few hours, I’d like to make a suggestion, if I may?

Survivor is won or lost as a social contest, so, when you read through the twelve lists of names, put aside the Survivors' genders, races, ages and physical attributes and try to think of each individual’s relationship to the others vis a vis only their shared social identity (intrinsic traits and behavioral patterns) – Capricorn, Aries, Gemini, Leo, etc. - and your memories of how each of them played the Game.

Because perhaps if Malcolm had been familiar with this portion of the Gemini Profile –

“Gemini, the Sign of the Twins, is dual-natured, elusive, complex and contradictory …

Their good qualities are attractive and come easily to them. They are affectionate, courteous, kind, generous, and thoughtful – provided none of the activities resulting from expressing these traits interferes too greatly with their own lives and comforts

(B)e warned that like chameleons, they absorb and reflect every change in their environment and can become pessimistic, sullen, peevish and self-centered prattlers, boasters, liars and cheats if circumstances force them to struggle in any way.

– and had he been able to look at Lisa and see Tyson, he wouldn’t have “misread” that “church lady” so badly …

Just one more quick note about shared patterns …

Six years ago (when I posted the first Signs …) either KO or OFG or Scarlett or FP – I spent some time last night looking for the quote and couldn’t find it – pointed out that it was Vecepia’s (Sagittarian) ability to adapt quickly to the circumstance of multiple tribes and alliances during a Season that failed to produce stable relationships - Sagittarians have a knack for being able to go and never look back – that won her day.

And even though I haven’t watched it, that description of Vecepia’s swath through the Marquesas was certainly on my mind as I watched the Sagittarian Denise play what I imagine was much the same game in the Philippines.

Keep up the great work!

Well, what do you think, Pepe? ‘Cause, I’m pretty darned pleased with our reference library …

We have Eastern and Western profiles for every Sign and each is accompanied by a list of every native of the Sign to ever play the Game with the exception of sixteen players from South Pacific (Mark, Stacey, Jim, Edna, Rick and Albert), One World (Bill, Jonas, Michael, Leif, Tarzan, Alicia and Chelsea) and Philippines (Carter, Katie and Roxanne). And, I had (as I said earlier) thought to not include any of the Survivors from those Seasons in the lists until I could include them all. And hopefully, I’ll have identified the 16 well before the premiere of Caramoan.

But I’ve decided that it’s a little silly to toss away what the behaviors and accomplishments (and/or failures) of 38 players might teach us in the meantime: I’ve edited the lists to add them.

So, the (Eastern/Western) Profiles gathered here represent some of Astrology’s best efforts to communicate it’s predictions of the common social behaviors and traits that the natives of the Signs are most likely to exhibit in the ordinary course of events. And, the lists of - 387 - Survivors grouped by (Western)Element and Sign, are my best effort to catalog and illustrate (via our collective memory of them) those behaviors and traits as they have been exhibited during the course of an extraordinary event – Survivor.

In addition, as nice as it certainly is to have all of the research that she’s contributed, the thread now contains several of OFG’s signature – concise, insightful, accurate and entertaining – observations of the Signs’ unique behaviors. And, because I am, regrettably, usually oblivious to the finer points of strategies, alliance-building and editorial manipulation – and to the subtleties of a personality - her reminders like this one - “I think of the planets and ascendant as ingredients in our personal cocktail of attributes, and one is not going to be just like anyone else ... As with a recipe, even one different ingredient or a different amount of it can altogether change the impression, but if one is a good taster, one can perceive the underlying ingredients.” – are, always very welcome, reality checks for me.

Too, I do read all of the Forum’s threads and it has not escaped me, sir, that you are no slouch at critical observation and analysis, either. So, for that fact – and for your good company – it’s going to be very nice to have you around.

And now come the cautions:

1. Because the Game is a crisis environment for its players, I try to pay particular attention to those portions of the Profiles that discuss the traits and behaviors of the Signs’ natives when they are under duress: familiarity with those behaviors can sometimes – see the Counterfeit Clause in #2, below – help me to recognize the Survivors who are playing the Game outside ‘their own skin’ – usually to no good end. The midst of a crisis is not an optimal time to attempt to reinvent a personality.

2. The two faces of Stephenie/Coach/ Jerri, etc. are shining examples of Survivor’s editors’ extraordinary talent for sleight-of-edit. And knowing the core traits and behaviors of the Signs predicted by the Profiles can be a huge help in determining whether you’re seeing an honest … or a counterfeit … portrayal of a player’s behavior. Too, the Profiles can certainly be invaluable as a primary source in the identification of the Signs/Survivors who are ‘Most likely to (do/be)_________’ when they show up on our screens.

But, relying solely on the Profiles to provide our answers to those ‘Most likely … ’ questions presents a problem precisely because so much of what we see of the Survivors' behaviors is so extensively - and often disingenuously - edited.

And that’s where, I think, our curious (and cooperative) village - and our pigeonholed lists of former players - come in.

For instance, you've asked if we might be able to associate a particular Sign (or Signs) with the Survivor Character of Narrator. And in that case, we could begin, I suppose, with a list of probable candidates: Sun Signs whose Profiles and reputations in other discrete venues indicate that they have produced excellent communicators. For instance – from the world of Politics – Aquarius (Ronald Reagan, FDR and Abraham Lincoln), Gemini (JFK) – Note: George H.W. Bush is the other Gemini to have served as the United States’ Chief Executive - Leo (Bill Clinton and Barack Obama), Scorpio (Theodore Roosevelt), Virgo (Lyndon Johnson) and Sagittarius (Winston Churchill) come to mind.

And while it is true that the sometimes-less-than-eloquent George W. Bush is a Cancer, it is also true that so are Bill Cosby and Cirie.

But …

We’re not hoping to identify the next silver-tongued President or Prime Minister. So, rather than take the long way around, I think that the most expedient way for us to pursue your questions would be for you - and everyone else who would like to join in - to furnish a list of the players that each of you recognize as Survivor’s Narrators – I can’t be helpful with that simply because over the years I have paid little attention to who was delivering the Game’s story lines unless that delivery irritated me. And my attention to anything that irritates me is very short-lived.

Note ...

In fact, I won’t be much help with the ‘Character’ lists at all. It just is not the way I watch Survivor. Instead, I am fascinated by the display of the Signs’ core behaviors in the Game and I watch each Season as a contest between the compatible Earth and Water Signs (Capricorn, Taurus, Virgo, Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces) and the compatible Fire and Air Signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius, Libra, Aquarius and Gemini).

And I think of ‘roles’ only in terms of the players’ innate predisposition to those of Strategist/Leader (Superior), Tactician/Supporter (Subordinate) or Anarchist/Independent (Soloist).

So, I’m afraid that, instead of Femme Fatales (for instance), I see scratched, bruised and bug-bitten young women with filthy hair, nails and scraps of clothing. And, to me, every male who plays the Game seems to think of himself as an Alpha! But I do see Capricorn, Scorpio, Aries and Leo as Alpha Signs.

However …

I can reconcile the lists and then match the Narrators with their Signs. And we’ll see if we can discover patterns that will allow us to reliably identify the Series’ most likely storytellers – before they appear on our screens in Caramoan..

In other words, the past being the most accurate predictor of the future, what we need to know is which Signs its producers and editors have consistently trusted to tell Survivor’s stories. Because, in analyzing both editing and casting, ’Pattern’ is the name of the game.

As for the Villains …

The identification of the Game’s Narrators will be pretty straightforward, I would think, for those of you who, unlike me, have given them the attention that they deserve.

But ...

The identification of its Villains is, I think, going to be very subjective. And referring to the rosters for Heroes and Villains doesn’t help much. Because it would seem that in the opinion of the show’s producers, Amanda (the Leo) is a Hero. But Sandra (the Leo), is a Villain. And the Aries, Randy and Courtney, are Villains. However, the Aries, Colby, is labeled a Hero. No ambivalence about Virgo, though. All three of these hapless Earth natives were adjudged - Villains.

So …

I’ll suggest that we approach all of the 'Character Projects' in the same - Lists (of Survivors who have ‘played’ the Character) + Their Signs = Pattern – fashion. As I mentioned in my short post above, whatever the outcome, I think that the discussions are going to be a lot of fun.

And I’ll venture some guesses:

I think that the Water Signs (Cancer and Pisces) will turn up often as “Quiet Types”. And I think that Virgo will be the most popular Sign on the Villains, Troublemakers - and, with Pisces - Angry with a Chip on the Shoulder, lists.

Taurus will appear frequently as an Appeaser - and, with Capricorn - as an Alpha Male. And the Thinkers/Analysts lists will feature Libra and Aquarius.

Hello, the Village!

If everyone will post their lists as a reply to this one, I’ll be able to keep track of them a bit better.

Here are Pepe’s 'Character' categories: Villains, Narrators, Thinkers, Analysts, Troublemakers, Appeasers, Alpha-Males, Quiet Reserved Types, Femme Fatales and Angry with a Chip on the Shoulder. And I’m sure everyone can suggest others. So choose several from Pepe’s list or create and share catagories of your own.

And please remember:

In order for this to work, I need your long lists of every player who you recall portraying the subject of your list. In other words, I need every Narrator you can remember. Not just your favorites.

And, if anyone would like to use the lists of the natives of each of the Signs who have played the Game – in Posts 14, 15, 16 and 17 - to match the players on your lists with their Signs, please do. I promise, I won’t mind …

Capricorn
Sophisticate, Executive, Strategist, Achiever
~ In it for ~
The personal challenge.
Though industrious, smart and sure-footed, Capricorn's weaknesses lie in their judgment of character and their fear of being humiliated. If the Sea Goat can get over its sense of decorum, it could outlast the competition.
Luxury Item: Smart Phone

Taurus
Builder, Earth Spirit, Musician, Conservationist
~ In it for ~
The money.
While not the flashiest Survivor, Taurus is kind of like the earnest Tortoise that beat the Hare. Patience, calm and trustworthiness win them easy alliances. With that tried-and-true, slow-and-steady approach, Taurus has everyone beat when it comes to just waiting it out.
Luxury Item: Silk Pajamas.

Virgo
Analyst, Perfectionist, Servant, Efficiency Expert
~ In it for ~
A break from routine.
Would be good at eating rice every day for weeks but would squirm when it came time to eat anything squishy, greasy, mysterious or less-than-healthy. Though the quintessential fussy camper, Virgo may be good at systematically devising a scheme to sneak off with the prize.
Luxury Item: Sunblock

Cancer
Mother, Nurturer, Psychic, Counselor
~ In it for ~
The chance to overcome fears.
Cancer's like the mother of the Tribe, making everyone feel at home. Though the Crab could use its shrewd intuition to fool potential allies into its trust, a fierce loyalty keeps this Sign true blue. And Cancer hates voting people off the show -- it just seems so vindictive!
Luxury Item: Blankie

Scorpio
Emperor/Empress, Sorcerer, Avenger, Genius
~ In it for ~
The chance to use cunning and intelligence to succeed.
Scorpio isn't going to let anyone in on their strategies and all should be advised against indulging a confidence to this wily genius. Though they're certainly able to keep your secret, you can't be sure they won't use it to their advantage!
Luxury Item: CD Player and Blues

Pisces
High-Priest/Priestess, Mystic, Poet, Martyr
~ In it for ~
The opportunity to live in another world.
Gazing dreamily at the passing cloud formations may be a nice escape, but Pisces' wistfulness could make this Sign vulnerable. Greg said that Colleen was like a little kitten that he'd pet, play with and then 'snap its neck' as it slept. So, trusting Pisces, purr for no one!
Luxury Item: Personal Journal

Aries
Warrior, Pioneer, Daredevil, Survivor
~ In it for ~
The glory of besting others and the physical challenges.
Remember the whole Rat vs. Snake speech? You should really watch out for the Ram! No scheming or long-term alliances for Aries. This turbo-charging free agent defies tribal standards: going it alone and relying on strength and speed. But he may be too impatient to stay in it for the long haul.
Luxury Item: Spice

Leo
Performer, King/Queen, Comedian, Child
~ In it for ~
The fame.
"Give me the spotlight!", says Leo. And this vain Lion can become so caught up in talking before the cameras, he or she may lose sight of the objective of the challenge. Sulky when rejected or dejected, Leo's generally sunny disposition and optimism boost the morale of all involved.
Luxury Item: Hairbrush

Sagittarius
Student, Philosopher, Gypsy, Visionary
~ In it for ~
The adventure.
Since this Sign likes being on the move, you can count on the Sagittarian Survivor to be the one out roaming the territory, exploring the uncharted land and taking plenty of chances. Their courage may pay off for the others, though. Because Archers can be a bit too forthcoming with what they know.
Luxury Item: Swiss Army Knife

Libra
Diplomat, Peacemaker, Lover, Artist
~ In it for ~
The romantic possibilities.
Librans are prone to indecision and vacillating passions, but they're also born diplomats. They'll play a major hand in all alliances and, thanks to their charm, will be entrusted with secrets and taken into others' confidence. Their ambiguity could be their strength or their downfall!
Luxury Item: Deodorant

Aquarius
Revolutionary, Nonconformist, Truth Sayer, Innovator
~ In it for ~
The mental stimulation.
Known to be a social butterfly, Aquarius may seem too fluttery to be the last Survivor. But don't let those eccentricities fool you. Super-intelligent and inventive, Aquarians could pull a MacGyver move, making vitamin-packed, energy-enhancing lemonade out of any lemons tossed their way.
Luxury Item: Yoga Mat

Gemini
Teacher, Storyteller, Writer, Jack/Jill-of-all-trades
~ In it for ~
The kicks.
Survivalism is not really Gemini's thing. Nope! The quintessential restless native, Gemini is just along for the opportunity to flirt with other exhibitionists, kick butt on the mental challenges and to have some fun.
Luxury Item: Pocket Video Game

Hello, OFG!

It's good to see you back on the Board. I was beginning to worry.

Ah, those drama-intrigue-and-revenge-addicted Scorpio Moons! The five I always think of first are Russell Hantz (Libra/Scorpio), Richard Hatch (Aries/Scorpio), Parvati (Virgo/Scorpio), Amanda (Leo/Scorpio) and ... you (Aries/Scorpio), of course.

What a fascinating bunch! You could say that Abi is in good company ...

As for Denise ...

Being the direct yet tactful - ridiculously attractive and heroic but amazingly modest - Sagittarius that I am, I've been waiting patiently since Stephenie's first incarnation (in Palau) for another female Sag who I could like (or even tolerate) to appear in Survivor. Denise wasn't her.

I thought that the lady was arrogant and condescending. Or, as Abi put it, "patronizing". In fact, for all of her faults, I liked Abi much more. And if Denise is the "sex therapist" prototype, I am eternally grateful that my husband and I - still snuggled in our blissful ignorance of coached co-habitation - have reached our surely-you-jest years.

And Malcolm was pretty much all by his lonesome, wasn't he?

I wish I had all the birthdays for this Season. But, as it is, I am missing four and I don't have the time or patience to track them down on the Web. So, I don't know if the Fire and Air Signs (as opposed to Earth and Water folks) were the dominant group in Philippines. So I also don't know if Malcolm was up against overwhelming odds from the moment he was cast or just at the end of the Season. But - I hope that the fact that it took nineteen Seasons for a Taurus to win the Game (or to advance beyond the Final Four) doesn't mean that it's going to be 15 more before we have another at Final Three.

Aquarius puzzle me. I couldn't wait to see Russell Swann and Skupin in the same Season. And then, Poof!, Swann was gone (again) and Skupin had turned into one continuous pratfall. Do you suppose (if we must have returnees) that we'll ever get Yul or Todd back? They (and Stephen) are my idea of what an Aquarius should be.

Finally (didn't mean to be so long-winded) ...

My favorite Gemini Survivor will always be Katie. My second-favorite is the famously-fit wrestler (Ashley) from China who barely cleared customs before she threw the match. And my third-favorite is Joel of Chet-chuckin' fame.

My all-time favorite Survivor image is the one of Joel, in his, by God!, boat being drenched by his, by God!, rain.

Priceless!

My favorite Gemini Survivor is definitely Lex.

I would have to disagree that Scorpio Moons have an addiction to drama. The Moon sign is the reactive part of the personality. A Scorpio moon will go into revenge mode when it feels threatened, but drama is not the preferred mode. Stealth strike is more like it.

What I would say is that Scorpio moons don't let things go as quickly as some other signs. But revenge is a way of getting rid of the energy so that the Scorpio moon can go back to pursuing its own path under its preferred rock.

Actually I think that Libra enjoys stirring up the mischief, and spouting the hot air. Btw, Hatch has a Capricorn moon -- cold and calculating, manipulative.

Btw, Hatch has a Capricorn moon -- cold and calculating, manipulative.

Ouch! That'll teach me to glance at my own notes every now and then. And to pay rapt attention the next time that my druggist pushes his 'memory' cocktail. But I refuse to think about why he's making the pitch.

And I'll certainly defer to your assessment of Scorpio Moons. I'll offer in my defense, though, that I'm a Sagittarius (albeit with a Cancer Moon). And to me, stealth strikes are dramatic. And, to someone who will never be able to master the tactic, darned impressive!

But I seldom last long enough to fully appreciate them. Because the calm before the storm that precedes them usually secures my immediate capitulation. To me, silence is never golden.

I do agree about Libra. I worked very closely with an amazing Libra for several years and he did, as you said, really enjoy stirring up mischief. He was just as adept, though, at stilling troubled waters and he enjoyed the role of peacemaker just as much. Too, he often stunned me with the complexity - or the simplicity - of his schemes. And with the fact that, no matter which, their execution was usually flawless.

I don't know his Moon Sign. But I'm going to ask.

Cracking up about how silence is not good ...

I really don't have a good memory for everyone's signs, and triple that for moon signs, but something niggled at me with Hatch. I noticed early on that Capricorn did well. Hatch's moon and Tina's sun. Rob Mariano. Kim Spradlin is a Capricorn too.

My older son is a Libra, and he totally enjoyed Russell's early game mode of setting out to cause chaos. He does act as the peacemaker as well but he prefers to be Switzerland.

I think of the planets and ascendant as ingredients in our personal cocktail of attributes, and one is not going to be just like anyone else ... but the Sun Moon Ascendant are the strongest ingredients.

As with a recipe, even one different ingredient or a different amount of it can altogether change the impression, but if one is a good taster, one can perceive the underlying ingredients.

Cracking up about how silence is not good ...

There is only one thing more initially infuriating and then increasingly ominous to me - articulated indifference.

So, knowing this, what did I do? I married a Cancer with a Capricorn Moon, of course! And I swear to you that - as they say about small children - only the fact that God made him so damned cute has kept that man alive for the past fifty years ...

Anyway ...

My entire family is coming for Christmas Dinner, and, of course, I haven't even acknowledged the Season yet. So I don't know if I'll have any more time to play before Wednesday and think I'll go ahead and post the Signs for the Caramoan Favorites Tribe here. Seen from that perspective, it truly is ... interesting.

I'm going to put them in a post of their very own - below. I think that quarantine is the least that I can do.

The Moon sign is the reactive part of the personality.

Thank you, so much. That is the most clarity I've ever encountered when the topic was "Moon Signs".

But, now I have a question:

Do you think that the Game's extreme environment exaggerates the characteristics of that facet of our personalities or causes them to become more obvious (or more controlling) than they would normally be?

Aquarians -- well, the last thing they will ever be is what the rest of us think they SHOULD be, they will be what they are.

Skupin's insistence on the shelter.which fell down, is typical of the Aquarian vision when it gets fixated. He wouldn't listen. Another Aquarian, Rupert, became fixated on the underground fort in the sand, and disaster ensued. Keith Famie was my way or the highway when it came to rice. Michael also refused to cooperate with the others when it came to rice management.

Yul and Todd were both able to manage themselves and not fall into the eccentric outcast role. They were not necessarily as well liked by those in the game as by the viewers, and they were both shrewd and somewhat villainous, but they for the most part had a handle on the way they played -- unlike Rupert and Skupin, and Keith, who were oblivious to how others perceived them.

Profiles of Aquarians always say they are tolerant, which implies they are non-judgmental. Actually I find the Aquarian to be quite judgmental and quite fixed in his or her own nature, but they understand that people come in all varieties and accept that. That doesn't prevent them from having strong opinions about right and wrong though. They are right!

Survivor Caramoan – Fans vs Favorites

The Favorites

The Earth Element Profile
Capricorn, Taurus and Virgo

KEYWORDS
Practical and Useful
Structured and Productive
Grounded and Dependable
Tactile and Sensual

The ‘Practical’ Earth Signs are grounded and dependable. All of the earthy metaphors are appropriate here: ‘Salt of the earth’, ‘Feet firmly planted on the ground’, ‘Solid as a rock’, etc. Often referred to as the ‘builders’ of the Zodiac, creativity is a tangible proposition to these natives and they feel best once they have accumulated a goodly number of worldly possessions.

Blending in with their natural habitat – grounded – Earth Signs engage life through the five senses and as a result operate at a slower, more thorough, pace than do the natives of other Elements. Often intimately attuned to the dance of nature – most treasure their time spent outdoors – they are masters at assessing, assembling and organizing … things.

The Element of Earth also confers a sense of duty, responsibility and reliability to those in its sphere. Their gift to others is bringing form to ideas: often making them an excellent balancing partner for an idle dreamer with potential. They tend their own garden and inspire others to make the most of theirs. These are the people you can count on to ‘be there’ when you need them. Tending toward caution and conservatism in desire and approach, their logical minds and measured responses display an innate recuperative capacity: much preferring a sure thing, these folks do not take big risks.

That said, however, certainly in that they appreciate a good meal, congenial company and fine wine better than anyone else, they are also sensualists.

On the flip side:

Earth Signs can become so caught up in their objectives that they overlook the feelings and opinions of others. And their single-minded focus on the tasks at hand make them vulnerable to the "all work and no play" eddy of life. It is a big picture, after all, but these natives may be more concerned with the finish line than with the journey they are taking.

So, while Earth’s orientation toward the real and their need for tangible results in return for their labors can make them very productive, too much of those good things can be stifling to inspiration, faith and a sense of greater purpose. And the ever-present risk inherent in their acquisitive nature is that they may become greedy and far too materialistic.

The Capricorn Profile

John Cochran – Leo or Virgo Moon / Chinese Sign - Earth Dragon
Corinne Kaplan – Virgo Moon / Chinese Sign - Earth Horse

Positive Traits
Practical and Prudent
Ambitious and Disciplined
Self-Reliant and Persevering
Resourceful and Creative

Negative Traits
Pessimistic and Melancholy
Materialistic and Stern
Conventional and Rigid
Demanding and Cold

Capricorn is one of the most stable and serious of the Zodiac types and these rocklike characters have many sterling qualities. They are normally confident, strong-willed and calm. Born with a sense of purpose and an intense drive for achievement and excellence that never lets up, they are the major finishers of most projects begun by the 'pioneering' Signs. Capricorn exude a sense of being in charge. And they usually are. But, even in their pursuit of status and power, they rarely compromise their integrity to get there. These are the masters of the physical realm and are widely admired for what they’re able to accomplish.

However, while Capricorn have a great respect for authority, they may not be willing to listen to the opinions and suggestions of others. And as the ranking authority figure in a given situation they expect their underlings to be as self- disciplined as they themselves are and to perform every task undertaken to the highest standard. They are often humorless. And a fortress of defenses can keep the curious and insincere at bay in their lives.

So that while to the world at large Capricorn often covey an image that is both intriguing and intimidating, those that pass the test of loyalty are allowed to see a more vulnerable side: at heart, these natives are interested in enduring ties and because they have a tendency to pessimism and melancholy that many of them are unable to keep to themselves – especially if they fail personally – Capricorn often look to family and longtime friends for emotional support.

And mood swings are not the only reason Capricorn deserve the adjective based on their name - capricious. They can be surprisingly and suddenly witty and subtle for the quiet, reserved individuals that they seem to be. But they also have a tendency to ruin things by unexpected and utterly irresponsible bouts of flippancy: their penchant for melancholy creates a unique filter for Capricorn humor that is known to veer toward the darkly absurd. Reference: Natalie of Micronesia and Corinne of Gabon.

Additionally, Capricorn are very status-minded. Even if their immediate finances don't permit an extravagant lifestyle, the January-born can unconsciously adopt the mores, attitudes and mannerisms of the elite. The trappings of success are important to these natives not only for personal pleasure but also for the impression that they can make on others.

Romantically: Capricorn usually thrive as one half of a power couple. Their ideal partners are individuals who they can respect but who also allow them to take charge most of the time. Once happily settled, they’ll go about the business of building both an empire and a cozy home life.

Cochran's Chinese Sign - Earth Dragon
Earth Dragon people are extremely practical and systematic. They are disciplined and dependable. Earth Dragon people make good managers because they are level-headed and well organized. They still have the need to dictate and be praised, but they are pleasant, congenial, friendly and supportive. Compared to other Elemental Dragons, Earth Dragon people are less likely to lose their self-control and are generally calmer. They will work untiringly to achieve their goals in life. Earth Dragon people take their life and relationship responsibilities seriously.

Corinne's Chinese Sign - Earth Horse
Earth Horse people are dependable and practical. They are very systematic, organized and disciplined. They have the ability to look at situations from all angles and corners. Earth Horse people are easygoing and down-to-earth. They prefer to weigh the pros and cons of a situation before making any final decision. Earth Horse people work assiduously to accomplish goals they have set. They would rather take a longer time to do an outstanding job than to take short cuts that would compromise on the quality of the work. They have good senses of humour and are extremely adaptable in various situations.

The Taurus Profile

Andrea Boehlke – Capricorn or Leo Moon / Chinese Sign - Earth Snake
Malcolm Freberg – Aries or Taurus Moon / Chinese Sign - Fire Tiger

Andrea's Chinese Sign - Earth Snake
Earth Snake people are more practical and down-to-earth. They are systematic, disciplined and very organized. Earth Snakes are the most relaxed of the other Elemental Snakes. This make them seem more friendly and warm-hearted, as you will not feel the need to ponder what they got up their sleeve. Earth Snake people believe that their good sense, honesty and work ethics will pay off and bring them much prosperity and material
satisfaction.

Malcolm's Chinese Sign - Fire Tiger
Fire Tiger people are intelligent and rational. They are capable of making quick and good decision when the situation called for. Fire Tiger people are very creative and are known to be good problem-solvers. They are outgoing, eloquent and very positive in attitude. Fire Tiger people never like to stay still in a place for too long, they prefer moving around, trying out and experiencing different things in life.

The Virgo Profile

Absent

Positive Traits
Caring and Loyal
Meticulous and Discriminating
Practical and Organized
Clever and Analytical

Negative Traits
Fussy and a Worrier
Overcritical and Harsh
Perfectionist and Conservative
Negative and Unsocial

Those with Sun in Virgo are constantly on the move, always trying to fine-tune their lives and relationships. They are filled with nervous energy and a desire to make improvements, so they're serene only when they are fulfilling their meticulously planned steps toward a carefully chosen goal.

Virgo is the only Sun Sign represented by a female and it is sometimes thought of as a delicate young girl and sometimes as an intelligent, but rather pedantic and spinsterish, older woman. The latter impression is sometimes confirmed by the Virgo’s precision, refinement, fastidiousness, conventionality and aristocratic attitude of reserve. They are usually observant, shrewd, critically inclined, judicious, patient and practical.

Both sexes have considerable charm and dignity and in their unassuming, cheerful and agreeable fashion, they can be sensible, discreet, well-spoken, wise and witty. But while in many respects Virgo are the epitome of social grace and propriety, their sterling etiquette is more apt to be scripted than spontaneous: the result of careful thought and hours of mental practice.

Intellectually, Virgo are enquiring, methodical and logical, studious and teachable. They combine mental ingenuity with the ability to produce a clear analysis of the most complicated problems. Thoroughness, hard work and conscientiousness are their hallmarks. They have an excellent eye for detail but they may be so meticulous that they neglect larger issues. And, because of their ability to see every angle of a multi-faceted problem, they are as unhappy with abstract theories as they are with intractable philosophies: placing no confidence in either.

Moreover, for as much as his intellect aids analysis, it also abets the Virgo’s compulsion to criticize. Nothing escapes these perfectionists’ eyes. And in their scrutiny of incongruities, these natives leave no stone … nor anyone … unexamined: as critical, and unforgiving, of themselves as they are of others. So that they may bring the art of self-concealment to a high pitch (hiding their apprehensions about themselves and their often considerable sympathy with other people under the mantle of an undemonstrative clinician) with the result that they shrink from committing themselves to friendship, make few relationships, and are careful to keep those they do make superficial.

Virgo often feel compelled to serve others and can find respect in fields where attention to detail and a responsible attitude are rewarded. They are natural healers and are gifted at bringing an unhealthy situation back into balance. But they have to watch out for those who would take advantage of their natures and put them in subservient roles. Finding the courage to place the highest value on what they offer can take a lifetime for some Virgo.

So, given their qualities, Virgo are much more effective in subordinate rather than leadership positions. Responsibility irks them and they often lack the breadth of strategic vision that leadership requires. They are essentially tacticians and excel at the attainment of limited objectives: needing the stimuli of immediacy and prestige attendant to specialization.

Romantically Speaking: The self-contained nature of the Virgo (Virgin) Sun sometimes makes them all the more alluring: someone who will always be whole and complete unto themselves. And this can make them seem unattainable.

Once in a relationship, the Sun in Virgo finds comfort in the routines of daily life. A Virgo who has established a wholesome daily routine is far easier to live with than one that hasn't. And known as loners – there is a physical sensitivity associated with Virgo that could be called high maintenance – they will need plenty of “me” time to maintain their sense of self.

But, when they’ve found a worthy mate, they revel in the patterns and habits of togetherness and can begin to relax into the beauty of the familiar.

The ‘Emotional’ Water Signs are intuitive, sensitive and empathetic. How things feel is what matters to these nurturers and they base their actions on sense, rather than on logic or intellect. Attuned to waves of emotion, these natives have a built-in sonar for reading a mood that affords them a special sensitivity in relationships. Because the receptive talents of these individuals are so remarkably high, they seem to know when to show warmth and when to hold back. Compassionate and understanding, Water Sign natives are extraordinarily adept at assimilating the feelings of others, processing them and offering plans or solutions that will usually be considerate of all. So, at their best, they are a healing force that brings people together.

But, because Water natives are often assessing a situation by its undercurrents, they can seem aloof or even shy at first. And going forward in a relationship or situation often means being sure of their emotional ground: a kind of decision-making process that is baffling to more spontaneous or practical types. That's why those with this Sign are so quickly shaped by their relationships to others and often have to work harder than do the natives of other Elements to maintain their personal boundaries. They need time alone to remember where they end and others begin and to let what's been stirred up by the push and pull of life find its way to a quiet calm again. These are people who need people but who also need the restorative balm of solitude.

Water natives often translate their sense of the world artistically. Some find release from their own personal dramas when they're able to express them as universal. As writers, musicians and actors they help others make sense of the human experience. But this also happens in everyday life: Water Signs soften the blunt edges of the mundane by cushioning it with emotional meaning. They covet aesthetic beauty -- and for everyone to be happy as a result of it.

However, much like still water can become stagnant, inactive Water Signs are not at their best. They feel most fulfilled when they are helping others, and they usually do so in enchanting ways.

Seeing things more clearly than others, and feeling them more acutely than do the natives of other Signs, they are frequently referred to as ‘psychic’. But these insights are easily clouded by the intensity of their feelings or altered by their vivid imaginations.

Also on the flip side of this fluid Element is the tendency of these individuals to brood. Susceptible to mood swings, at their worst they can become self-indulgent, controlling – able to manipulate and drain the emotions of those closest to them – and hostage to a fantasy world.

The Cancer Profile

Dawn Meehan – Taurus Moon / Chinese Sign - Metal Dog

Positive Traits
Nurturing and Sensuous
Intuitive and Imaginative
Shrewd and Tenacious
Sensitive and Empathetic

Negative Traits
Changeable and Moody
Self-Absorbed and Clinging
Subjective and Clannish
Neurotic and Needy

Cancer’s emotions are as changeable as the Moon itself and their nature makes them something of an enigma, even to those closest to them. In fact, the Cancer temperament is a veritable kaleidoscope of waxing and waning feelings and during the course of a conversation, you may notice – passing fleetingly across the faces of July-born – scores of distinctively different emotions: no one ever repeated or expressed in exactly the same way. Quite simply, Cancer exude drama and these extraordinarily emotional individuals can sink into a mood and fully inhabit it, so that it seems to permeate the atmosphere around them. No other Sign has so pervasive an emotional aura as to either lift your spirits to ecstatic heights or to fill you with clouds of gloom, depending upon his mood.

Moreover, the Cancer imagination is so vivid that it’s like they’re watching home movies inside their heads. For them, every life experience can be replayed again and again and the same internal landscape revisited. This is the raw material for both creative genius and the tendency to get stuck in emotional eddies. These natives love to dream of far-away places and times past and will talk about historical events as if they were actually there. Most Cancer have a special reverence for the past, and if you ask them to tell you whom of all people they admire most, they'll most often rattle off the names of several prominent historical figures.

The idiom “home is where the heart is” has no greater ring of truth than when describing how the Cancer feels about his abode. Home is where he dreams, lives, plays and loves. And it is the only place he feels secure. But, because they're psychic sponges, they need plenty of space to unravel the little dramas of the day, or they’ll get cranky.

And Cancer has a tender heart. But you might not see it at first behind the cool exterior. However, once you’re allowed inside the circle of trust, you’ll start to know why they’re called the “Mother” of the Zodiac. Cancer is never truly happy unless they have someone or something to care for and their innate understanding of human emotion allows them to see through the pretenses of other Signs and lend encouragement, support or sympathy when needed. Both men and women of this Sign have an instinctive nurturing side that endears them to those they love and it is amazing to discover how many July-born have acquired the appendage – ‘good ol'– to their names. The Crab’s claws hold tight, though, and often they have trouble letting go of relationships and situations.

But there is a private, reclusive side to every Cancer. Because of their extreme emotional sensitivity, they fear ridicule and would rather retreat than defend themselves. And there is always lurking in the background of their personalities a foreboding of disaster. As if upon some hidden cue, the Crab can suddenly retreat into the watery burrows of his inner consciousness and not be seen for days. Try and question him about his absence and he'll probably not know what you're talking about.

However, if Cancer can reconcile the personal conflict of their urge to be outgoing with the reserve that causes them to withdraw into themselves, then at best they can inspire a generation, especially the youthful part of it, by their idealism. They also have a penchant for trade or business and are often successful as a captain of industry. This is because they are excellent organizers with a good sense of value and economy that they may combine with a flair for invention and originality.

Take Note: The stealth approach of Cancer often takes people by surprise, and many have been underestimated. They’ll protect their sensitivity by going after what they want indirectly, which can be seen as passive. But try to take advantage of their gentle nature, and you’ll soon be put in your place. Once crossed, the Cancer holds a grudge to infinity, so it’s hard to win back their trust.

Romantically Speaking: Above all, the Cancer needs a sense of belonging and an intimate home life. Once committed, they’ll prove to be the ultimate family man or woman, and likely never stray too far from the nest.

Dawn's Chinese Sign - Metal Dog
Metal Dog People are generally independent, ambitious and unwavering. They set high standards and expectations for themselves. They are loyal and dependable. They are clear of what they want to achieve in life. Metal Dog people possess natural instincts in them which they tend to trust and follow. They make judgements based on their instincts rather then listening to the views of others. Metal Dog people are rigid and uncompromising. They choose their associates and friends with care. Loyalty is important to Metal Dog people, therefore, once they have committed to any friendships or relationships, there is little to no turning back for them. Metal Dog people are easily nervous and stress. They feel irritated, tense and restless when things are not done according to plan.

The Scorpio Profile

Francesca Hogi – Aquarius Moon / Chinese Sign - Water Ox
Brenda Lowe – Gemini Moon / Chinese Sign - Water Dog

Positive Traits
Determined and Forceful
Intense and Intuitive
Formidable and Passionate
Exciting and Magnetic

Negative Traits
Jealous and Vengeful
Compulsive and Obsessive
Secretive and Cunning
Manipulative and Obstinate

Scorpio are the most profound and powerful characters in the Zodiac. There is a harnessed aggression, an immense forcefulness, magnetic attraction and often strangely hypnotic quality in their tranquil, but watchful, composure that can be intimidating. An outer mask of cool control belies a vast and often turbulent psychic interior.

In a word, the Scorpio is intense, and works best in a crucible of pressure and uphill challenges. Without a sense of purpose, the darker emotions can take hold and lead them down the paths of obsession, jealousy and worse.

In conventional social gatherings they are pleasant to be with, thoughtful in conversation, dignified, and reserved, yet affable and courteous. And in their everyday behavior they give the appearance of being withdrawn from the center of activity. Yet those who know them will recognize the ever-probing, ever-evaluating observation that is an integral component of their character. They intuitively take in everything around them and reveal very little in return. And don’t expect instant friendship here, as it takes time to win the trust of the wary Scorpio.

Scorpio are deeply sensitive and easily moved by their emotions. And that sensitivity, together with a propensity for extreme likes and dislikes, make them easily hurt: quick to detect or imagine insult or injury to themselves and easily aroused to ferocious anger. And because they relate to their fellows only as leaders, they can be blunt to those they dislike to the point of cruelty.

The Sun in Scorpio have a powerful drive to succeed and often have extracurricular activities that take it up a notch. They’re great competitors because of their built-in radar for the weaknesses of the opponent. They’ll remain calm until the exact moment when a targeted attack will do the most damage. That’s why in relationships of any kind they are a formidable enemy if betrayed.

Fortunate that their strong reasoning powers are tempered with imagination and intuition and that these gifts are usually accompanied by critical perception and analytical capacity, Scorpio often find fulfillment in the ice-cold self-control and detachment of the surgeon or soldier and the concentration of the research scientist. And any profession in which investigation and analysis are relevant may attract these charismatic "twice-born" characters. They may also become masters of the written and spoken word. This Sun Sign includes among its natives more geniuses than does any other.

At the other extreme is the procrastinator: the man or woman who is capable of so much that they do nothing and become indolent and self-indulgent: requiring extravagant praise and flattery from those whom they make their cronies.

Romantically Speaking: Those in a relationship with a Scorpio need to be strong-willed in order to keep from being controlled by their undertow. And never try to hide anything from them because they’ll quickly “read” it on your face.

Moreover, Scorpio have earned a reputation for seeking an amorous outlet for all that emotional intensity. However, to those few allowed into their private worlds they are fiercely loyal and their enveloping sensuality usually makes all the drama worth it

Francesca's Chinese Sign - Water Ox

The Pisces Profile

Phillip Sheppard – Sagittarius Moon / Chinese Sign - Earth Dog

Awesome!

Phillip's Chinese Sign - Earth Dog
Earth Dog people are down-to-earth and pragmatic. They are usually very organized and systematic in doing their work and living their lives. Earth Dog people are reliable and disciplined. They are clever and truthful. Earth Dog people are rational and supportive, stable and unassuming. The Earth element gives Earth Dog people an element of security, for he is confident and inspiring. They are willing to listen to the views and opinions of others before making decisions. Earth Dog people make great leaders because they are such trustworthy, dependable, highly organized and diplomatic individuals.

The Fire Element Profile
Aries, Leo and Sagittarius

KEYWORDS

Spontaneous and Energetic
Gregarious and Passionate
Self-centered and Dramatic
Instinctual and Visionary

The ‘Physical’ Fire Signs have a simmering at-the-ready stance and are prone to sudden illuminating flashes of insight and bursts of enthusiasm. There is about them a warm radiance, a trust in life's journey and a willingness to take risks.

Infused with an emotional energy that can spread like wildfire to everyone around them, they sense a golden thread of destiny and potential running through their own lives and are often able to lead others to their own. But, it is important for them to have cheerleaders to fan the flames of their interests.

A Fire Sign is also an indicator of creativity. This Element manifests itself in unique ways, and those in its glow are usually wonderfully courageous, lively spirits: self-sufficient, spontaneous and possessing a tremendous zest for life. Strong, self-assured and fun, they're great catalysts for play and have a knack for unearthing the spontaneous side of those around them.

Fire Signs act on instinct or "sixth sense," and that can make them look reckless to more cautious types. However, they're actually following a powerful intuition that keeps them at the leading edge of fresh experiences. But, although going on faith often gets them far, they have a tendency to skip crucial steps and to be unaware of the emotional impact of their actions on others.

And because they are so very passionate about life and like to live large, Fire Signs often feel frustrated by mundane chores and duties. Too, Fire natives can be overly strident in getting their way. Call it bossy, even. These folks can come across rather forcefully. Selfishness and an overdeveloped ego can also be seen as part of a fiery individual's shadowy side.

The Aries Profile

Absent

Positive Traits
Adventurous and Confident
Pioneering and Courageous
Enthusiastic and Straight-Forward
Dynamic and Quick-witted

Negative Traits
Selfish and Dominating
Impulsive and Insensitive
Foolhardy and Quick-Tempered
Willful and Ruthless

Adventurous, ambitious, impulsive, enthusiastic and full of energy, Aries is a trailblazer: open to new ideas and a lover of freedom. These individuals welcome opposition and will not be diverted from their purposes except by their own impatience or boredom. Gifted with a direct, fiery nature that puts them one step ahead of the crowd, the childlike enthusiasm of these entrepreneurs and revolutionaries is infectious, and their ability to rouse others' interest in a project or cause is unparalleled. They’ll often take charge of a situation and their sense of certainty usually makes others fall in line. But the Mars-ruled are initiators -- not perpetuators.

Often larger-than-life, they can light up a room with their charisma: they’re among the ones with the stamina to party ‘til dawn. But if a gathering, project or relationship begins to be dull they’ll quickly move on. The Sun in Aries craves excitement and their restless spirits are in constant pursuit of the next ‘big thing’.

Because their approach to life is somewhat simplistic, what Aries can accomplish without a lot of distracting nuances and complexities to slow him down is staggering. Don't, however, put them in a position where they'll have to deal with complicated emotions or with a problem requiring delicate handling or subtlety. They're simply not equipped for it.

And, much concerned with personal advancement and physical satisfaction (self-reliant but also self-centered), Aries do not work well under authority unless they, too, have subordinates. In fact, they may be too self-sufficient and proud to acknowledge they have a boss and often take matters into their own hands (disregarding authority absolutely). Ask an Aries how many times he's been fired, and he'll probably tell you more than once.

And that is probably because, most of all, Aries – propelled by an inner drive that is a force to be reckoned with – wants to achieve great things and at times their rush to accomplish them can cause them to take unnecessary risks or to forge ahead without planning out crucial details. Some say the Sun in Aries learns the hard way: by leaping before looking. But, being an active Sign, the Aries does learn best through experience.

In personal relationships Aries are frank, direct and candid: gregarious and generous friends. However, their immense energy can also make them aggressive and restless, argumentative, headstrong, quick-tempered and easily offended: of all the Zodiac’s natives, an Aries will most readily haul off and punch a nose.

And while an Aries is not the least bit calculating (in most instances, he'll simply tell it like it is before he's had a chance to think about the consequences), he does crave admiration and praise. So that while he won’t usually lie (in contradiction of his straightforward nature), he'll often exaggerate the truth in his own favor or simply in order to stamp it with his individuality.

Intellectually, Aries are quick-witted, usually objective, and inspirationally optimistic: irreplaceable champions of lost causes and last-ditch stands. But they can also become extremists: foolhardy and dogmatic zealots whose enormous talents and vibrant personalities become a hindrance (if not a threat) to the welfare of the society in which they move.

Romantically Speaking: Aries is the Sign of the Warrior and sometimes they go too far and wound those they love with hurtful words spoken in the heat of an argument. They quickly forgive and forget, but they often have to deal with the fallout of their brusque demeanor.

Moreover, these natives have minds that filter out the non-essentials and it is their clear sight that helps them make such rapid progress in life: so, once fixed on a goal, they’ll move forward with a single-minded determination that threatens to leave those close to them in the dust. But if you’re a match for such an amped-up spirit, you’ll never forget being pulled along by the power of this dynamic personality.

The Leo Profile

Absent

Positive Traits
Generous and Affectionate
Exuberant and Colorful
Broadminded and Theatrical
Proud and Vivacious

Negative Traits
Pompous and Patronizing
Overbearing and Provocative
Dogmatic and Intolerant
Selfish and Egotistical

At first, it’s hard not to like those with the Sun in Leo with their open hearted, friendly ways. They often enter a room as a radiant presence that causes everyone to take notice, and are skilled at “working” a crowd for best effect. As a friend, they have a gift for mining your buried dream, polishing it to a shine again, and making anything seem possible. And there is a public confidence with the Leo Sun that affords them free reign to fully express their creative and social selves. Whether they end up in civil service or on a Broadway stage, chances are they’ll have an audience. When standing proudly before adoring fans (or co-workers), they project a warmth that has a palpable power to win hearts and minds.

It is a Leo’s birthright to lead, and they'll naturally assume that role without being asked. However, if that authority is questioned, they may abandon a project entirely. Outgoing, spontaneously warm-hearted and plain-spoken (but poor judges of character), Leo are more disillusioned than the average if let down by those they trust.

And, since Leo simply can't function if they're not in a position to lead, they'll brood until that status has been reinstated. However, even after they discover that they've been duped or abandoned, most Leos are too big about it – or too proud – to retaliate. Because they are usually incapable of actions that are in any way mean, base or underhanded, they have difficulty in recognizing those traits in others. In activities where these lower qualities are essential for success, the majority of Leo tend not to succeed.

And because they see a project in its grandest perspective, Leo natives have a disdain for details: their chief attribute in any group situation is the unique capacity for the overall manipulation of resources to produce a desired result. So it is not surprising that more wealth is found under Leo than under any other Sun Sign.

On the whole they are powers for good, for they are strongly idealistic, humane, and beneficent. They have a powerful intelligence and are of a broad philosophical, sometimes religious, turn of mind. Those who are devout may be very obstinate in upholding traditional beliefs and will cling tenaciously, but with complete sincerity, to practices and doctrines that liberal thinkers regard as absurdly out-of-date.

However, a Leo’s faults can be as large in scale as are his virtues and an excessively negative Leo can be a very unpleasant human being. These Leos will not hesitate to use cunning, lies and trickery to discredit their adversaries. Narcissism, greed for flattery, bombast, pomposity and snobbish superiority can also be characteristic of Leo.

Romantically Speaking; The Sun in Leo has a hard time with the mundane, and will be drawn to colorful careers and dramatic relationships. While some people shrink at the idea of dating around, the Leo considers romance a grand game. And it’s not unusual for these natives to play more than one game at a time.

Too, after getting to know a Leo, you’ll discover that they’re very loyal: to themselves. You can come up against severe resistance if you try to bend the will of a Leo for the sake of a relationship. Their reputation for being ‘diva-difficult’ is well-earned.

But, because so many of them grab the gusto and achieve their lofty goals, in the end their stubborn self-regard usually elicits widespread respect.

The Sagittarius Profile

Erik Reichenbach – Gemini Moon / Chinese Sign - Wood Ox

Erik's Chinese Sign - Wood Ox
Wood Ox people are highly ethical and righteous. They are born leaders and exude great self-confidence. People around them will listen and heed their advices. Wood Ox display very good organizational skills and they make good managers. They are well-respected by people around them.

The Air Element Profile
Libra, Aquarius and Gemini

KEYWORDS

Intellectual and Innovative
Conceptual and Analytical
Curious and Social
Cerebral and Detached

The gift of Air is flexibility and its natives’ ability to experience life through many prisms. Air Signs use their minds to make sense of their lives and for them there is more space between the life lived and the observing mind than is so with other Signs.

So, to others, these individuals can appear detached, aloof, remote and cool: they’ll often attempt to talk their way through feelings – or to analyze a situation – rather than deal with the full emotional weight of the moment. Critical thinkers who handle abstract reasoning well, the ‘Intellectual’ Air Signs love to probe and synthesize. Have a dilemma? Hand it over to an Air Sign and watch them go to work.

And the distance between these masters of cultural navigation and their own emotions can be refreshing. These are extremely social creatures – their curiosity keeps them ever- mingling – and their currency is their ability to link diverse social groups or individuals with their often extraordinary collections of ideas, obscure facts, gossip and knowledge.

Drawn to words, many Air natives become professional storytellers, interpreters and journalists who provide the rest of us with astute commentary on the cultural trends, social attitudes and political consciousness of our times. Others of them – especially Aquarius – have a more conceptual way of thinking.

Almost without exception, however, these alert, curious and perceptive individuals are very communicative and the world as seen by an Air Sign will be an interesting one – as their analysis and subsequent explanation (hopefully in terms we can understand) will indicate. Talking with an inspired Air Sign can be like skipping through a kind of virtual reality full of detail, specificity and local color.

Moreover, the Element usually manifests itself in a most humane way: objective, cooperative, unprejudiced (and often highly idealistic), most actually do ‘want to help make a better world’. And, leading with their heads, these observers of the human scene are the ‘idea’ people who, from their loftier viewpoint, are often able to offer it a fresh perspective of its problems and an innate clarity of vision that is rare among the natives of other Signs.

However, these inventive and clever individuals will insist upon considering all sides of an equation before they decide on a course of action. And, because Air Signs are especially vulnerable to the excesses of our mind-body split, balance is of paramount importance to them. So that while Air natives are usually calm and collected, they can – and frequently do – turn bitterly cold if their equilibrium is upset.

A word to the wise: there's little upside to baiting an Air Sign!

The Libra Profile

Brandon Hantz – Capricorn Moon / Chinese Sign - Metal Sheep

Positive Traits
Diplomatic and Urbane
Romantic and Charming
Easy-going and Sociable
Idealistic and Fair-minded

Negative Traits
Indecisive and Changeable
Gullible and Easily-influenced
Flirtatious and Self-indulgent
Passive and Co-dependent

Ruled by the planet Venus, Libra are the very personification of refinement and affection, endearing you with their genteel manner and melting your heart with their ingratiating smiles. Those with the Sun in Libra have an easy grace and charm that is truly enviable. Many have soothing voices that are easy on the ears.

And they love to talk. They’re at their very best when their gift for communication is put to a high-minded purpose, and, noted for their ability to harmonize conflicted situations – the Libra personality attracts the revelations, confidences, gossip and trust of others like a magnet – they thrive in calm, aesthetically pleasing environments.

But don't let all that sugar and spice fool you. Libra are easily upset by the chaos of life and then the October-born can be as quarrelsome, as irritable and as intractable as any Sign in the Zodiac.

These are very social human beings. It’s difficult – even unnatural – for Libra to “go it alone”. More than any other Sign, they function best in “people” environments. At a party, you’ll find that Libra is the one playing host or hostess – no matter whose house it is – and looking fabulously at ease: they have a very artful way of serving cocktails and scintillating ideas with equal aplomb.

Libra loathe cruelty, viciousness and vulgarity. And they detest overt conflict. So they do their best to cooperate and compromise with everyone around them. Their ideal for their own circle (and for society as a whole) is unity. And their cast of mind is artistic rather than intellectual: many Libra are drawn to creative fields, since their eye for beauty is often quite refined.

Libra is symbolized by the Scales of Balance, and just as a set of scales will teeter back and forth before achieving a new balance, Libra will vacillate to and fro between extremes: mental, emotional or physical. When the Libra does make a decision, however, you can probably bank on its integrity. The polar opposite of subjective Aries, the Libra is quite capable of objective judgment: irrespective of his own tastes, mores, philosophies or preferences.

And even though Libra take a lot of heat for being indecisive, they make up for it with an idealism that has the power to change their world. Perhaps this is why there are more judges born under Libra than under any other Sun Sign and why the Scales have come to represent our system of justice.

However, once they have reached a conclusion Libra will not tolerate a divergent opinion: among their faults is an impatience of criticism and a greed for approval.

Moreover, the negative Libra character may show frivolity, flirtatiousness and shallowness. It can be changeable and indecisive, impatient of routine, colorlessly conventional and timid, easygoing to the point of inertia and inappropriately docile: yet Libra can shock everyone around them with sudden, and inexplicable, storms of rage.

The Libra flair for tact and diplomacy is unparalleled in the Zodiac. And in business and diplomatic relations, the Libra is able (far more often than not) to accomplish what he desires without destroying relationships that could be valuable to him in the future. Great venture partners, they relish bouncing ideas off other people and eagerly contribute their talents to committed teams.

But the ease with which they pursue any argument can sometimes make you wonder where the Libra really stands. Nothing irritates these natives' harmonizing intellect more than one-dimensional thinking. So, if they think your line of reasoning is too pat or simplistic, they'll purposely take the opposing view.

And while 'Lazy Libra' is a common phrase - the same languid style that puts everyone in a relaxed mood can lead to self-indulgence and a passive attitude toward life – those who would casually ascribe laziness to the October-born have never seen them in their more productive mode. Once they have committed themselves to a goal, Libra can become powerhouses: using their well-ordered intellects to accomplish in leaps and bounds tasks that might encumber other Signs. The trouble is that in planning any endeavor they can get so lost in the endless labyrinth of strategies, factors and options which have to be weighed and evaluated by their logical minds that Libra’s procrastination can give you the best portrayal of laziness you've ever seen.

Romantically Speaking: The Sun in Libra has a natural gift for being the ideal in the eyes of their beloved. And that is because they’re so instinctively aware of what it is the other wants and needs them to be. So, while some Libras end up losing their sense of self in the process, a more romantic, devoted partner is hard to find.

Brandon's Chinese Sign - Metal Sheep
Metal Sheep people are the most ambitious and determined among the other Elemental Sheep. They are more rigid and inflexible when performing their tasks. Metal sheep people tend to be less compromising and want things done their ways with their own ideas. Ideas are generated through their own instincts and observations. They seldom want to listen to the views of others. Metal Sheep people usually display a tough front to protect the fragility they are known for.

The Aquarius Profile

Absent

The Gemini Profile

Absent

Thanks so much, Georjanna!

Would it be too much to ask for their birthdays and birthplaces in as far as you know them?

I would like to add in their Chinese lunar astro signs.

I may be able to find a decent Sun/moon combo reading online that would synthesize the signs. I'm sure I can find a Chinese/Western mix.

Hi!

The birthdays are already here - in Post 13. I posted them separately from the Profile pages because I wanted a 'snapshot' view of the tribe's composition.

As for the birthplaces ...

That has become so hit and miss! Sometimes what passes for a castmember's biography at CBS will still mention them as an afterthought. But, most of the time, won't. I'll try Wiki (etc) too, but I won't have too much time to spend on it before Wednesday.

And - Yay! - I am so glad that you're going to do the Chinese Signs and the Chinese/Western mixes.

Too, I don't know if you'll find it helpful, but for several installments of Signs ..., I would edit and blend the Sun and Moon material that I found at Astrology and Numerology and within the Personal Portraits at Astrodienst to produce what I hoped were fairly accurate Profiles of the combinations.

Good idea! The Astrodienst folks are fine astrologers. I started reading Liz Greene and Robert Hand's work on transits back in the 70's.

Less work sounds good to me. I don't have any time before Christmas either, I'm only checking in when I'm exhausted and need a break. But sometime before the premiere I'll try to do it.

"S26 Faves Chinese Lunar Signs"

LAST EDITED ON 12-23-12 AT 00:05 AM (EST)

OVERVIEW

Each Chinese Lunar Sign has an associated Element that also goes in sequence. With 12 signs and 5 elements, the entire cycle is 60 years.

The Lunar Signs are
Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig, Rat.

The Elements are:
Metal, Water, Wood, Fire, Earth.
(Note that both systems use Water, Fire, and Earth, but instead of our Air, they use Metal and Wood.)

John Cochran (January 17, 1989 – Capricorn Sun/Leo or Virgo Moon)
EARTH DRAGON

Corinne Kaplan (January 17, 1979 – Capricorn Sun/Virgo Moon)
EARTH HORSE

Andrea Boehlke (May 10, 1989 – Taurus Sun/Capricorn or Leo Moon)
EARTH SNAKE

Malcolm Freberg (May 7, 1986 – Taurus Sun/Aries or Taurus Moon)
FIRE TIGER

Dawn Meehan (June 29, 1970 – Cancer Sun/Taurus Moon)
METAL DOG

Phillip Sheppard (March 12, 1958 – Pisces Sun/Sagittarius Moon
EARTH DOG

Francesca Hogi (November 3, 1973 – Scorpio Sun/Aquarius Moon)
WATER OX

Brenda Lowe (November 3, 1982 – Scorpio Sun/Gemini Moon)
WATER DOG

Erik Reichenbach (November 27, 1985 – Sagittarius Sun/Gemini Moon)
WOOD OX

Brandon Hantz (October 15, 1991 – Libra Sun/Capricorn Moon)

METAL SHEEP or GOAT (same sign, different countries use different animal)

Sorted by Animal (see list of qualities below)

Sorted by Element:

EARTH - Cochran, Corinne, Andrea, Phillip

WATER - Brenda, Francesca

FIRE - Malcolm

WOOD - Erik

METAL - Dawn, Brandon

Interesting that there are two Ox's and 3 Dogs out of the 10.
It figures that Phillip would be a Dog, because Dogs are the watchdogs of our society, always barking up some tree about some conspiracy. Brenda and Dawn are also Dogs.

Erik and Francesca are both Ox. The Ox is a solid citizen.

It is funny that Brandon is a Goat. Goats like to be led. Religious, artistic, dreamer.

Corinne is a Horse. Horses are ornamental and spirited, but can be vain and egotistical, and don't like to be told what to do. Proud, social, kind (but Capricorn is not so kind.)

Cochran is a Dragon. Dragons are intelligent visionaries full of wonderful schemes they would like others to implement. Known to be bossy. Well if you can breathe fire, why not?

Andrea is a Snake. Wise, wily, secretive, intelligent, jealous.

Malcolm is a Tiger. A dynamic force, fierce, powerful, confident, competitive.

Here are some traditional Chinese interpretations for the signs of the 10 "Faves." Bear in mind that traditional Chinese values and downfalls may not apply to Westerners or the game of Survivor.

DOG- Phillip, Brenda, Dawn
Zodia Sign Compatibility - Best match: tiger, rabbit, horse; Avoid: ox, dragon, sheep, rooster
Compatible: Malcolm, Corinne. Avoid: Erik, Francesca, Cochran, Brandon.

Strengths
One born in the Year of Dog has a straightforward character. In their career and love, they are faithful, courageous, dexterous, smart and warm-hearted. They know how to keep secrets and inspire other people's confidence. Those people make good leaders. If they fall in love with someone, they would not change. They can be terribly stubborn with the right things.

Weakness
Most women under this sign are appealing but lack stability. They can be cold emotionally and sometimes distant at parties. They can find fault with many things and are noted for their sharp tongues. They are irritable and usually bothered by unwarranted anxiety. They sometimes try to flaunt and be brave. They are likely to be an armchair theorist deficient in practical experience.

Each of the three Dogs vary by element.

METAL DOG - DAWN

WATER DOG - BRENDA

Water Dog people are skilful communicators and very persuasive. They are knowledgeable and possess great intuition. Water Dog people are flexible and are much less rigid than their Metal Dog counterparts. This quality allows them to appreciate and listen to the views of others, making them more liberal and well liked. They are free and easygoing. Water Dog people do not know how to control their finances very well and often result in overspending. They are generous and like to buy treats for friends. Water Dog people always have many friends and are usually the most popular among them.

Note:
So if you compare Brenda and Dawn here, I think this is very accurate and you can see how much more rigid a player Dawn was. How nervous and stressed, compared to Brenda who was almost too relaxed about it all. Of course a Cancer is more visibly emotional than the more poised and inward holding Scorpio.

PHILLIP - EARTH DOG

Earth Dog people are down-to-earth and pragmatic. They are usually very organized and systematic in doing their work and living their lives. Earth Dog people are reliable and disciplined. They are clever and truthful. Earth Dog people are rational and supportive, stable and unassuming. The Earth element gives Earth Dog people an element of security, for he is confident and inspiring. They are willing to listen to the views and opinions of others before making decisions. Earth Dog people make great leaders because they are such trustworthy, dependable, highly organized and diplomatic individuals.

Note: OK, if you are cracking up at that as a description of Phillip, so am I.
BUT Phillip is a Pisces, which is very very different, with a Sag moon ... both of which could make for someone who is less than adherent to stating the plain truth, to say the least. But somewhere inside flaky, delusional, irrational, argumentative, loony tunes Phillip that we saw on RI, this other reality must act to ground him, and explains how he has managed to achieve certain positions of responsibility in his life.

OX - Erik, Francesca

Zodiac Sign Compatibility - Best match: rat, snake, rooster; Avoid: horse, dog, sheep

SHEEP (GOAT) - Brandon
Zodiac Sign Compatibility - Best match: rabbit, horse, pig; Avoid: ox, dog

Strengths
People under the sign of the sheep are tender, polite, filial, clever, and kind-hearted. They have special sensitivity to art and beauty, faith in a certain religion and a special fondness for quiet living. They are wise, gentle and compassionate and can cope with business cautiously and circumspectly. In their daily life, they try to be economical. Women born in this year are willing to take good care of others, but they should avoid pessimism and hesitation. They are kind in heart and commonly have symmetrical figures and features.

Weaknesses
Sheep year people are often worriers who are shy, pessimistic, moody, indecisive, over-sensitive, week-willed and puzzled about life. They are easily inclined to be deeply religious. They are timid in nature and like to be looked after by others. They like flattery, compliment and suggestions from friends. They do not dare to express their love openly and usually have interests in strange theories.

METAL SHEEP - BRANDON

Metal Sheep people are the most ambitious and determined among the other Elemental Sheep. They are more rigid and inflexible when performing their tasks. Metal sheep people tend to be less compromising and want things done their ways with their own ideas. Ideas are generated through their own instincts and observations. They seldom want to listen to the views of others. Metal Sheep people usually display a tough front to protect the fragility they are known for.

(Note: fits Brandon very well)

SNAKE - Andrea

Zodiac Sign Compatibility - Best match: ox, rooster; Avoid: tiger, pig
Compatible w/ Erik and Francesca. Avoid: Malcolm

Strengths

They have tremendous sympathy for others and would like to take actions to help ther fellow human beings. They are determined to accomplished their goals hate to fail. Although they look calm on the surface, they are intense and passionate. They have a rich source of inspiration and understand themselves well. They are people of great perception. They are fickle and usually have problems in relationships or marriage problems.

EARTH SNAKE - ANDREA

Earth Snake people are more practical and down-to-earth. They are systematic, disciplined and very organized. Earth Snakes are the most relaxed of the other Elemental Snakes. DRAGON - Cochran

Strengths
People under the sign of the dragon are lively, intellectual, energetic and excitable. They often can be leaders and try to go for perfection. When they meet with difficulties, they are not discouraged. They are magnanimous, romantic and sensitive about their reputation. They usually have great ambition and an ingenuous personality. They hate hypocrisy, gossip and slander. They are not afraid of difficulties but hate to be used or controlled by others.

Weaknesses
They are a little arrogant and impatient, while dragon women can be over- confident. Sometimes, 'dragons' are unable to control their moods very well due to being eccentric, tactless, fiery, intolerant and unrealistic. They may feel blank about the future. There is no lack of romance in their life over all, but they seldom give true love. Therefore, they do not usually show disappointment in love. They may criticize others for their inefficiency at work. They have a nature ardent to excess and couldn't withstand setbacks which make them flee away. If they overcome these defects, they can have a brighter future.

EARTH DRAGON - COCHRAN

Earth Dragon people are extremely practical and systematic. They are disciplined and dependable. Earth Dragon people make good managers because they are level-headed and well organized. They still have the need to dictate and be praised, but they are pleasant, congenial, friendly and supportive. Compared to other Elemental Dragons, Earth Dragon people are less likely to lose their self-control and are generally calmer. They will work untiringly to achieve their goals in life. Earth Dragon people take their life and relationship responsibilities seriously.
-----

Note: Dragon is a difficult sign to understand, perhaps because it's the one mythical beast in the roster. There are a lot of negative descriptions unless you find one written by a Dragon, lol.

"A comparison of Chinese and Western signs."

While there is no exact match between Western astrological signs and Chinese, the Chinese signs are apparently assigned a lunar month and so I have found the following comparison.

"Since the Twelve Earth Branches or zodiac animal signs are also each assigned a month in a lunar calendar, then a Western zodiac sign can be matched with its Eastern counterpart.

Since that the Rat rules the month of December, thus we link him to the sanguine Sagittarius personality.

In January, we have the Ox that has solid Capricorn as his other self.

The Tiger in February has many similar traits with the Aquarius.

The Pisces and Rabbit cohabit the month of March just as the

Aries and Dragon are linked in April.

The Snake in May coincides with Taurus, and

Horse in June could well speak for the Gemini.

you will find the Sheep and Cancer having much more in common than just sharing the same month, July.

Monkey and the Leo take control of August.

In the month of September, we have Rooster and Virgo linked together.

The Dog will definitely strike a balance with his friend, Libra.

The deeply devoted signs of Scorpio and the Pig are grouped in the month of November."

http://www.squidoo.com/western-and-chinese-zodiac-signs-combined-astrology-and-horoscope

It would be a mistake to do a mental substitution using these match-ups, as the symbolism is not exactly the same, and the sun signs have their own symbolism. This is how it looks when you put the Western Sun Sign symbols side by side with the Lunar animals going in sequence.

Capricorn - Goat w/ Ox

Aquarius - Water-bearer Androgyne w/ Tiger

Pisces - Fish w/ Rabiit

Aries - Ram w/ Dragon

Taurus - Bull w/ Snake

Gemini - Twins w/Horse

Cancer - Crab w/ Sheep

Leo - Lion w/ Monkey

Virgo - Virgin w/ Rooster

Libra - Scales w/ Dog

Scorpio - Scorpion w/Pig

Sagittarius - Centaur w/Rat

Another astrologer compares the signs and doesn't assign them purely going in order, and I agree with these correlations much more than the above.
Same as above with these five shuffled.

Taurus -- Pig
Gemini -- Monkey
Leo -- Rat
Scorpio -- Snake
Sagittarius -- Horse

Scary!

I've evidently been doing too much of something for too long, because I've written this before and posted it. And the thread dutifully claims to already have 23 posts in it as I type this in response to your 22nd one.

But I'll be darned if I can see it.

So ...

THANK YOU!. As I've said (like, five minutes ago), I always love the Chinese profiles. Have you noticed before that they make a lovely Christmas present ...

And, when you have a minute (and you obviously have more time than I do because it's still daylight out where you are), could you please take a look at your first (Chinese Signs) post? Because I think that we're missing a Dragon profile, and I'm really going to have to have a picture drawn for me to see Cochran as a Dragon.

Greedy 'ol Horse, aren't I? And, Squidoo.com notwithstanding, by birthday/year (11/26/1942) and by starry constellation, I do think that I'm a Horse. Or at least 1/2 of one.

It's the miserable-with-money thing that clinches the deal ...

And, am I right? Poor Brandon is only compatible with Corrine the Compassionate. And should avoid Erik, Francesca, Dawn, Phillip and Brenda? Where is the kid going to sleep?

Maybe there will be a beached boat - sans a water-logged and decidedly out-of-sorts Gemini - handy.

Again, thank you (very much), for taking the time to do this. And if we don't 'see' each other again before Tuesday - Merry Christmas!

G
Edited to add birthdate up above and then to clarify some thoughts. I hope.

Whoa!

11/26 is my second son's birthday! (30 years after Georjanna). Scarier!

Yes, I did forget the Dragon in the first post. Blocked Cochran out, not the Dragons. Will fix, but have added another set of descriptions below.

Having a hard time finding East-West melds, found one but it was too cutesy. Others are aimed at romantic profiles, not really useful here. The really good ones are in books and cost money. Continuing the quest, but basically one imagines the qualities of each tempering the other or augmenting the other.

So, could we all just agree that November 26th is obviously a very good day! And forget the year thing ...

Thank you for taking the time to explain the basics as you go. It really helps.

Having a hard time finding East-West melds ... (c)ontinuing the quest ...

I really hope you're able to find the good ones you're looking for. Because I'm looking forward to reading them. You've really interested me in learning about the relationships between the two Zodiacs.

Too funny!

Brandon is too big to sleep in a box or a potato sack ...

I edited a bunch of stuff into my first post, including some good readings on the Chinese signs by element, which modifications put a HUGE slant on the behavior of each "animal."

Cochran is an earth dragon. I have a mental image of him shoveling dirt on his enthusiasm with the result being scorched earth.

Just real quick ...

Would it be too far out of the box to think that allowing both the (Chinese and Western) interpretations to stand on their own, individual merits might produce not only a broader and richer - but also a just as accurate - portrait of a personality?

In other words, do you see a great advantage in correlating the two?

They can certainly stand on their own.

Knowing both helps understanding though.

For example we have Malcolm the Taurus, who is quite a bit more dynamic than the typical Bull. Now we know he is a Tiger, and a Fire Tiger at that, which livens him up a lot, and makes him much more of a roamer. Bulls tend to stay in one pasture, but Fire Tigers are perpetually on the move.

Malcolm probably experiences a conflict between these sides of his nature, and his life will challenge him to follow both these natures. Now if he were a Taurus Ox, he would pretty much be set chewing his cud and I dunno he would ever have been on Survivor.

Brandon is a Libra, like his uncle Russell. Dynamic, lively mind, a certain charisma, mischief maker, social, and so forth. Well, Brandon certainly has the scales always tipping up and down thing going on. But with the Sheep nature, we see where he is very conflicted and emotional.

Note: the Chinese sign we have more completely, because with the Western we are missing the Ascendant. The Ascendant is the persona, the mask we don to present ourselves to the world.

For example, as you noted I am and confess to be an Aries Sun with a Scorpio Moon. My rising sign happens to be Gemini. So a lot of people see the love of too many words, desire to teach, analytical Mercury-ruled side to me and wouldn't know about the Mars/Pluto side. Which is considerably less cerebral and is certainly not diplomatic (Aries is not) or dispassionate (Scorpio always passionate). Because of the Gemini composure and the site moderation, you don't normally see the nuclear explosions constantly going off. At least, not MOST of the time, only once in a while when the Gemini lid gets blown off by the proverbial last straw.

With the Survivors, we are missing that all important piece in most cases. If their personalities seem a bit of a mismatch, remember that the "mask" is the Ascendant, which is the face they aim to show. The Sun and the Moon are the real nature of the self. Survivor tends to strip people down to their core, so the sun and moon signs really are useful.

Oh, and Georjanna, of course you are both a Horse by Chinese and a Centaur (half-horse) by Western, so Horse it is!

I'll let you guess my Chinese sign. It's not too hard if you know me.

Snake

I confess that I did not go clicking about to read the profiles of the Chinese Signs not here, but even if I had, I think that I would still be convinced - given this description - that your Chinese Sign is Snake:

The Snake is graceful, strong and charismatic. They are logical, strategic thinkers, and most often do not reveal their true thoughts. Snakes are generous, empathic, and kind-hearted. They possess a quality of elegance in their manner, and do not respect crass, boisterous or undignified behavior. The Snake cannot comprehend naiveté, and considers this trait in others to be either a lack of intelligence or a secret method of manipulation.

I just think that there is a subtle, elegant nuance in your persona that isn't explained by Aries, Scorpio or Gemini. And wouldn't be explained by - Dragon. And then there is that quote from your father ...

Back shortly ...

Here is another astrologer's take on the Lunar signs:
http://www.chineseastrologylindalazar.com/yoursign.htm

DRAGON - COCHRAN

Dragons possess energy, power and fire. They will stand up to any adversary and will never be intimidated. A mighty Dragon will speak their mind without fear of contradiction. They are able to remain congenial and gracious as long as their sense of justice is being observed. Dragons possess a fierce temper and will breathe fire when they reach their boiling point. Do not attempt to extinguish the fire of a Dragon, just get out of their way and wait for the Dragon to simmer down. A Dragon needs to breathe fire every now and then, its nature.

SNAKE - ANDREA

The Snake is graceful, strong and charismatic. They are logical, strategic thinkers, and most often do not reveal their true thoughts. Snakes are generous, empathic, and kind-hearted. They possess a quality of elegance in their manner, and do not respect crass, boisterous or undignified behavior. The Snake cannot comprehend naiveté, and considers this trait in others to be either a lack of intelligence or a secret method of manipulation.

HORSE - CORINNE

The Horse is outgoing and likable. They possess a great sense of humor, but can also be very stubborn. Horses are very independent, want things done their way, and are able to do more than one thing at a time. Horses often leave home at a young age to fend for themselves. The Horse's movements are quick and many. Possessing a kind heart and a happy-go-lucky attitude, Horses never have a shortage of lovers and friends.

SHEEP - BRANDON

The Sheep is gentle, kind, and an easy mark for a sob story. The Chinese consider this sign to be very lucky. Like everyone else, the Sheep-born will face hard times, but don't worry about the Sheep, somehow they always pull themselves through, and will probably even pull a couple of others through with them. The Sheep generously offers sympathy and consideration, and in turn expects the same from others. The Sheep is quite often disappointed when others do not meet their expectations.

DOG - BRENDA, PHILLIP, DAWN

Dogs possess a lovable quality. They are loyal friends and fun companions. Dogs have unbridled sex appeal, which brings them many admirers. They are very social and enjoy roaming the neighborhood, any neighborhood, all neighborhoods. They are outgoing and love to communicate. Dogs really don't like to fight, unless it's for their survival. A cheerful puppy can turn into a vicious Pit Bull if their family or security is threatened. On the whole, the Dog is likable, open-minded, and on the go.

OX - ERIK, FRANCESCA

You couldn't find a stronger or harder-working soul if you searched forever. The Ox is dependable, methodical and usually inflexible. Their sense of honor and loyalty is admirable and sincere. They never rely on luck to play a role in their success, hard work brings them their rewards. Don't expect flowery or romantic poetry from these bovine Don Juans, they express their love through hard work and duty. Oxen believe that working hard for you should prove how much they love you. They can be cranky, but they're worth it.

TIGER - MALCOLM

The Tiger personality is commanding and fearless. They appreciate respect, even if it's coerced. Tigers enjoy being at the center of attention, and possess sizzling charisma. They have a passionate love for life and pursue it with non-stop activity. Tigers will not collapse under pressure. Instead, they become fighting angry and stronger than ever. Tigers believe in helping humanity, and they love animals and children.

OFG,

I spent some time tonight trying to compose a coherent narrative of the West/East profiles for each of the Favorites in my head. And I kept flipping back and forth - and back - between your Post 21 and my Posts 14, 15, 16 and 17 trying to 'picture' Cochran the Capricorn and Cochran the Earth Dragon, as one ...

So, I hope you won't mind that I copied your brief profiles of each of their Chinese Signs from your Post into my own - following the profiles of the group's Western Signs. And I think it is really helpful to have East and West on the same page ...

But, I linked your Post (actually, twice) in every instance. Because I duplicated only a small portion of your material and all of it needs to be read to have a complete picture of the Chinese personalities.

Could you take a look, then, and tell me if what I've done is all right with you? Because, if it isn't, I'll certainly delete your material from my posts.

BTW: Have you noticed how deep 'Earth' runs in this tribe?
