Meanwhile, at a secret meeting, an alliance devises a plan to get rid of their biggest threat

What alliance has been shown? The final four of Lisa-Skupin-Denise-Malcolm. So who would be the biggest threat to that alliance? The person who has been winning individual challenges, Carter.

The preview says Malcolm worries about his brother talking too much. That implies his brother sticks around - that either Malcolm wins immunity or is brought along by someone who does. If he wins and gets to take someone along, it would make sense to take Carter so that the others could put together a strategy to oust Carter while he's gone.

I think it's misdirection, though. Yes, Carter is a big threat, but I don't think he's going this week. The others are so sick of having Abi around that she's gone when she doesn't win IC. Or Carter wins IC and can't be voted out.

I think this episode is setting up Carter's exit story, but that the exit doesn't come in this episode.

Bebo, totally agree with you re Malcolm's brother must stick around. Based on what Sheldor posted about Miles in the vidcaps threat, he's an excellent athlete, and he and Malcolm are a good bet to win the reward challenge (or be 2nd place and brought along).

Re the "biggest threat;" Could be Carter. And we do see the F4 alliance doing a fist bump/pow wow in the new web promo. If Carter doesn't win immunity, they should take him out while they can. I'm thinking he's the obvious boot choice this week.

Then again, the "biggest threat" could very well be Malcolm. Last episode, Penner made it very clear that Malcolm and Denise would beat Mike or LIsa. We heard Mike considering jury votes. And now the new web promo (which Blind Freddy just posted in the vidcap thread) has Lisa talking about how it's not good strategy to take them both to the end. So I'm thinking if Malcolm wins reward and decides to take Carter and/or Denise (or even Abi, so it's the young ones having fun), then I could see the Lisa/Mike alliance left behind from reward and devising a plan to get rid of Malcolm.

P.S. Re the "Shot into Smithereens" title: Could be literal, as in a challenge. Or could be metaphorical, as in Malcolm potentially saying his brother spilled the beans and shot his cover story into smithereens. Malcolm sure has had some great one liners this season.

Eliminating Abi now would be a waste. They've been with her for a month so a few more days is nothing when it could mean a million dollars. There's also her bluff about the idol to be solved: Was anyone fooled?

I think the alliance is simply Skupin and Lisa because biggest threat has to be Malcolm.

> Was anyone fooled?

Based on the Insider Clips and one of Penner's post-game interviews, people weren't buying it.

Agree with you re Abi. She's not a threat at any level -- physical, strategic or social/jury. Also, Mike and Lisa need to be thinking ahead to next week re potential swing vote (if needed) at five. Abi is more likely to vote with them vs. the other pair of Malcolm/Denise, should it come to that.

Best option is to split up the Denise/Malcolm pair this week while you still have some other numbers to work with....Carter and Abi are on the chopping block and have already shown they're willing to vote Denise.....or vote out Carter, who's a bigger immunity threat vs. Abi.

Spoilers note that Abi goes before Malcolm but Carter is really not mentioned. The so called "F7 boot order" (which I think is partially true thought Carter isn't in it) has been correct so far. So I'm guessing Carter or Abi goes.

I think this might happen. The alliance of 4 will split their votes thinking Abi has an idol. Vote again, and Abi goes. As much as Carter is a threat I really think its Abi's time to go. Her editing last episode was impressive. But that editing could either be a winner edit or a last final edit. We know she's didn't make it to the end, so that means that's a last final edit for her.

The only way Carter doesn't get booted this coming episode is if he wins immunity. Otherwise, he's gone, case closed.

Why? Look at the jury, he's got more friends on there than anyone else left in the game. Look at his immunity challenge performance - two wins and two seconds in the last four ICs.

The numbers are also in favour of the main alliance (Skupin, Denise, Lisa, Malcolm) to be able to boot someone outside of their alliance before the jockeying begins for the stretch drive. If, let's say, Abi is booted this coming episode, then you risk having Carter go with Malcolm/Denise (as I believe he's more likely to do) to boot one of Skupin/Lisa. When they get to F5, you don't think that Malcolm/Denise (the more strategic pair) would be thinking of how they can get to the end and consider switching things up?

If Carter doesn't win immunity then he HAS to go to keep things from getting chaotic. Abi can be easily booted once they're satisfied she holds no further purpose as a voting chip or becomes untrustworthy because she's no threat to win IC (last episode notwithstanding).

Malcolm will NOT be booted this coming episode because he hasn't had a build-up in his story yet, and the stuff with his brother will likely be the start of a boot story the following episode or a build-up of a reason why he doesn't get the final jury votes because right at this moment in the game, there isn't a player left who can beat Malcolm straight-up in a jury vote other than perhaps Carter if the jury is sufficiently angry enough (but we know Carter won't make the end game because he's had ZERO character development). Malcolm hasn't had the character development that a winner would get, so time's running out to give us reasons why he won't win.

Agree Pepe, so well put! (although I don't think there will necessarily be a switch up at F5.)

Doesn't Malcolm need to play his idol this week as its the last time to use it?

Two other candidates for the "alliance" are Skupin-Lisa and Malcolm-Denise, just to be thorough. Although two people can talk pretty easily without needing a "secret meeting." Probably the four though.

Re who is the threat --
the editors let us hear the opinion that Abi only won the last challenge because she was fresh for Stage 3, whereas the others had burned energy on the first two stages. So her win is an anomaly, and who won before that, Carter, no? Penner is gone and Skupin only won the ball in the pocket.

The idol fake-out got way too much time last week not to bleed into this week. Otherwise, with Abi having immunity last round, there was no need to include it. I would guess that they pay enough attention to the performance to decide to flush any idol without targeting her. So they will go after Carter because Lisa is done flip-flopping around for now and he's an immunity threat, and Denise surely wouldn't want to cut Malcolm loose now, too early to lose her voting bloc in the four.

Note -- the secret meeting is harder to do if everyone's in camp, so it might be post-reward. That would make it into more of a thing to get all four together. Carter probably thinks Abi is the target, so he has to be out of the loop if they plan a vote split.

Well, if the reward includes some sort of feast with loved ones while others return empty-handed to camp, Malcolm is most likely to share reward with Denise and either Lisa or Michael. Most likely Lisa since she bounces back after being with her brother.

So, three of the four are free to plot away from camp, with their loved ones around whom they can trust (more or less).

Plus if Miles blows Malcolm's secrets a bit in front of Denise and Lisa or Michael but not Abi or Carter, that would be ammo for later down the road if they need it, to take him out before FTC or use against him at FTC. It's not going to tear up the F4 alliance at this point.

Hey Squid: I could be wrong, but I thought this vidcap was from the last episode when they finally got together, when Penner was left at camp with Carter and Abi and was wondering where the others were...

I agree that the athletic brothers, Malcolm and Miles, are most likely to win the RC. And, we know that Miles could be blowing Malcolm's cover story. I agree that Malcolm is likely uttering that Miles has shot his cover to smithereens!

We also hear Malcolm saying that he's worried about Lisa's brother setting her conflicted self straight, this is a game for a million. Which also lends to the theory that their biggest threat could be Malcolm.

However, I think the biggest threat to the declared F4 is Carter. So, I still think that Carter will be toast when he doesn't win immunity. I think all the Malcolm drama is misdirection. But, it will be setting him up for later, when he becomes Lisa and Skupin's biggest threat. I would suggest that this is the beginning of Malcolm's decline, but it's not his demise....yet.

Skupin and Lisa made their bed last week. Skupin could/should have saved Penner last week, but stayed true to his F4. Last week was the conflict, I don't think this one will. He's committed, and Lisa will be too.

If there was a major outing of Malcolm by Miles' chatter shouldn't there have been more confessionals by Malcolm telling how and why he was hiding his background throughout the season?

Miles obviously says things that rattle Malcolm could that lead him feel he has to use his idol this week?

It was a long time ago and editing styles have changed but I don't remember Brian tellling us he was hiding the fact that he was rich. Then, all of a sudden, we had videos from home and CC started giving everyone a tour of his house and showing off his cars. Suddenly, it became a reason to boot Brian and just as suddenly, it passed.

But that was a different situation, he really wasn't rich. Brian was concerned the others would think he and his family were better off than they actually were, because they had a nice house and nice cars. He was working as a car salesman so naturally they had nice cars, they were company cars, that's SOP in that business.

Mario's text isn't exactly PG-13 but it does make the point:

Yes, it is clear in reading that that (despite some hyperbolic exaggeration for storytelling effect) the Heiduks were a middle class not upper class couple. ("Rich"? Relative to what? "Mansion"? Make me laugh, it was a nice middle class house with some nice middle class stuff.)

$5000 mink coats are so middle class...

That was Brian though, and his wife wouldn't be caught dead in a faux fur. Brian dreaded what the video would be like he already knew it might be a problem, I get the impression that Malcolm doesn't expect his brother to spill the beans unless his decision to hide his background didn't form until he left for the show.

Either way if it worries him into using his idol that would explain why he would play it this episode. Up until now he hasn't needed to.

That is true, he might! Although we may just see him saying he's going to be watching for funny stuff going on like he did before. He's going to want to have it at F5 if he can.

I really don't think we can conclude anything from lack of backstory leading into this episode. I'm sure I've seen the editors pull stuff like that out of the blue when it becomes pertinent.

Secrets about being former sports pros or child stars come into play from the get-go, because a member of the cast may recognize this. Being deceitful about his persona and "borrowing" his bro's resume doesn't need to come into play in the story until bro makes an entrance or is about to.

This gives the editors a chance to surprise the viewers with Malcolm's devious side. Setting it up would tell a more complete story but it would spoil the surprise element, so it's just a matter of editorial choice how they want to play it.

Brian lived in Quartz Hill, CA -- where my in-laws lived when I was younger, where I went to CC, and where Quartzeye lived. Remember Quartzeye? She got her name from being there and having her eye on Brian. She was able to spoil that he might be the winner because at some point he bought a new car for himself, IIRC.

Quartz Hill is mostly middle class housing tracts, outer LA County suburbia in the high desert. It's not a place sought out by people with money.

It was clear that Brian didn't want his wife to win family visit. I think he may have been more worried that the soft porn background would come out (someone there may have recognized his wife if they spent time with her or she may have been too talkative) -- but even if he did have the poor judgment to mention that in confessional, the editors at that time would have cut it. That background really wouldn't have flown with Helen or a good part of the jury.
