I put this on the other forum & got locked out. But & we had a pretty good conversation going to. I wish I would have seen the show when this life coach Rana was there. Does anyone think she was better?

Rana was better because she focused on the reality of what was going to happen with her clients in the long term. Long after the cameras, the directors, and she would be gone.

She set out tasks that were not filled with gags or humilation. You could see how all the tasks had a very defined point and would stay with the person. If a woman was being fake, she called her on it. She didn't deal with drama with big old hugs, just a level head.

As discussed on another thread, IV was asked to do the first season but her daughter was very sick then and didn't do it. Rana was asked to fill in. I wish in a way they kept her as a coach. She was the one that Josie coach in the first season. She was right there with her when she had her daughter. Helping her deal with the whole "who's the daddy?" issue and if she wanted to keep her or not.

From the first season Rhonda has had her favorites and it's usually the woman that worships her the most. The more butt kissing they do, the easier their time is there. She has a huge ego. She may claim it's self esteem but it's just a big head!

Aaaaah Rana........love her and miss her.

She was by far MUCH better than Rhonda and or IV could ever hope to be.

She was actually concerned about her clients in getting the process and helped each, equally, to start over and to plan for the long term after they graduated.

And yes, every one of her clients did graduate. Leah, end of season one, did leave on her own accord (season was ending) but Rana had brought her as far as she could have gone to prepare her to come out and live life as its fullest as a gay person.

I also noticed another difference in the clients, after they either left or were booted, is that none (as far as I can remember) of Rana's clients ever needed more than their 15mins of fame they got from the show.

Rana was and still is an LC who guided the ladies through the process without having to scream, threathen, use drama, etc for the ladies to get it.

Rana, imho, is the ONLY bonefide LC to have been on the show.

She guided Teresa, who also was 40K in debt as is Allsion, as to how to contact each creditor to make a settlement to clear up the bill/s. She guided her through, throuhgly, on how to make a budget AND keep it. She utilized EXPERTS to help Teresa.

IV's solution to Allison's debt? Declare bankruptcy.....the EASY and the CHICKEN way out. Wasn't Allsion there to learn NOT to take the easy way out? Hmmmmmmm

Rana was thorough with her clients....making sure each step of the process was compeleted and they understood what they learned from the exercises..I don't remember Rana giving answers to what her clients were to learn.

So, to answer your question:

RANA is by far my most favorite.

She seemed a bit more grounded in the realities of starting over and focused on returning her clients back to the world from which they came to face the realities that were waiting them there. IV seems to think they are entering some spirtual paridise she has prepared for them where they'll be no debt, no real problems that a cry to the universe won't solve. Rhonda's assignments lack teaching and resort to too many gimicks. When she does sit and talk she does well with some of her clients but she has her favorites and the rest seem to get neglected or abused.

I'd like to see how Rana handled some of the clients and I'd like them to hire some real down to earth coaches to help these ladies not just learn to scream to the universe but how to talk appropriately to each other and to get jobs, get out of debt, etc.

I like them all only because they are each different with different approaches. I really liked Rana and I sad when she didn't return. When Iyanla appeared, I was happy because I have seen her in action many times before and read her books and knew she would be a good contrast to Rhonda. I was on Rana's website a few weeks ago. I am glad she is stil serving her life's purpose. I did like her work.

but see, as i understand it, here's the whole thing with Rana: i had heard on another website or something that she originally applied to be an HG but ended up as an LC? Is there any truth to that?

That sounds weird. i wish i could have seen Rana in action. Iyanla is much more into the New Age thing than Rhonda I got to say that.

This is what i remember from that little tidbit:

Season one, ther ws a link, explaining how Rana became an LC on the show. She had indeed (per the article) applied to be a housemate and when th show found out about her credentials (She actually owns her own business and LC's company's etc) she was asked to be an LC.

NO idea if the article was correct or just another rumour.

Wow! I wonder what she had to fix?

Would of loved to seen that. That's what needs to happen next. Have Rhonda and Iv get a taste of their own medicine. Let's see them sit in a box or walk aroudn with 15 bags of luggage!

I could think up some wonderful assignments for both Rhonda and IV. Let's start by giving IV some communication cards to make sure people actually understand what she is saying to them and not just responding to her mumbo jumbo because she is IV.

Rhonda would definitly get some of her TJ like treatment.

What did you guys think of Rhonda today?

I don't know how much of this season you've seen but she regurally gives TJ humiliating assignments that contradict her diagnosis of ADHD because Rhonda really knows nothing about ADHD and just assumes that TJ is obnoxious. So she constantly sets her up to fail with her housemates and then blames her for not overcoming the very disability she came to the house to get help for. While many of the house guests have received specialized visits from people to help them with their special problems, TJ has never received a visit from someone who understands her specific disability and is able to help her with it. While Lisa has received tons of help and yet done nothing with it TJ gets nothing.

I'm still hoping, for TJ's sake, for Lisa's sake, etc. that they're getting more help from qualified professionals than we're seeing on the show. Perhaps the editors and producers of the show feel that it's not "good TV" to show the women driving 'round the Valley to specialists.

From what we've seen on TV, I don't feel like any of these women -- including Lisa -- has received enough substantive help from psychiatric professionals to make much of a dent in their problems. A handful of sessions with a professional, which is what we've seen Lisa get, isn't going to result in any substantive growth.

But I'm in full agreement when it comes to the idea that people here have expressed about Rhonda's assignments being more punitive and dramatic than therapeutic. TJ's box exercise and her card exercise seemed more about dramatizing for the viewers what it was like to be TJ. Much was made of her having been shut off from effective listening and communicating as a child with vision and hearing problems. I don't see how it was "good" for TJ, nor do I see that it was necessary for us who were watching, to dramatize TJ's plight by having her sit in a large cardboard box, cut off from communication.

Lisa's "baby dress" assignments were, I thought, similarly inappropriate. The new housemate, Kim, has done very little in the house thus far, but her "decorate your playhouse and I'll come in and rip it up" assignment felt wrong to me -- like a betrayal of trust between Kim and her life coach. With both of these, as with almost all of TJ's exercises, it felt like the purpose was to show us what was already clear -- that Lisa behaves childishly (but we didn't need to see her in baby clothes to have grasped that) and that Kim tends to repress her thoughts and feelings.
