Yes it’s that time again. BLINDSIDE!

On Brandon’s Random Tantrums Hour this week, it appears the star will be largely in absentia, perhaps off Blindside! in the woods flogging himself for his unseemly attraction to/loathing of Mikalya. Or maybe he is being Blindside! “hidden” by the editors in advance of getting the axe next week. One can hope.

As always please keep discussion of the proceedings BLINDSIDE! contained within this thread until the show has aired on the west coast.

For the past 17 days it is a see saw battle...at Savaii Ozzy finds the HII and thought he was in control...but one of his allies is plotting against him, see Jim, undermine him by targeting Elyse, at Upolu, Coach is safe but not everyone is a C fan, Stacey is on the chopping block and Dawn was a strong competitor....Upolu at TC where RussHell's nephew breaks down, in the end Stacy is voted out and passed on a hug with C and she's on her way to RI to see her friend Christine...

Stacey comes to RI Christine is sound asleep, she was hoping it wouldn't be her, them snakes over there, what happened, guess who is running things, coach...it ain't hunky dory...lies straight from hell, they are just lying...Tribal was so fake they are not one happy family, C is a big joke, she's going to start up a bees nest, she'll spill it all!

RI. I don't quite understand what Stacey is saying to Christine. But she plans to stir up a bee's nest at the duel.

Upolu day 12, edna by the fire, Brandon greets everyone with tree mail. He notes that tribal was emotional, mikayla said she doens't like that he's a Hantz, these are real people here and we have real feelings, crying in confessional, I'm a good guy and if I can't win as I am than I can't....RI tree mail, albert and Mikayla go...Coach is worried what Christine and Stacey will say....

RI duel:

Dawn and Whitney for Savaii...What is like to see the Upolu's that voted you out...they are snakes, Benjamin is running the team, Benjamin makes all the decisions, adults call him Benjamin, they will not honor the coach name...they are listening to all of his jokes, he wants them to be loyal, "I'm not buying it", Keep that hug Benjamin, cause it wasn't real....concentration and coordination are required, it's the ball in the shoot challenge as spec'd, catch the ball that comes out, after so much time, add more balls...

They wish each other luck, take first ball and drop it in, concentration is the key to this challenge....2nd ball....thiink about spacing, they alternate left to right, 3rd ball, Albert noting how stupid Stacy is, Christine with a save, Albert says it's only a matter of time, Stacey drops a ball, Christine stays alive on RI...they clap. Stacey, what did this adventure mean, I challenged myself, I'm a mortician, I'm a diva, I'm proud of myself....they hug, and she says to Dawn and Whit, you'all stay strong, and Dawn shouts out, I'm a strong woman....Christine says to Dawn and Whit, hope to see you soon....Albert has a confessional!!!!:Benjamin is doing everything, it makes us look bad to the other tribe and I know C is going to be pissed!

What's with this music at Upolu? LilHantz boohoos some more.

Albert and Mikayla go to the duel, as do Dawn and Whitney. Is there a Stacey translator in the house?

The challenge involves Jeff saying "balls" repeatedly. Christine wins. Stacey is a mortician and! a diva according to herself. Albert pissed because he was outed as Coach's right hand man.

I'm still wondering what that stately heartswelling music was doing there right before LilHantz started in snivelling. It sounded like nothing I've ever heard on Survivor before.

Even his parents call him Coach. Unfortunately, that leaves stupid up in the air for the nature/nurture debate.

Ozzy is, well, nervous to say the least after hearing what happened at RI with Upolu. Jim plans to work on Keith. Albert is looking for the hii. He tells Coach and Sophie what the clue says. So of course Coach finds it. He shows it to Albert and Sophie. Hmm.

"RE: S23 Ep 5 East Coast Spoiler Thread"
Posted by cahaya on 10-15-11 at 02:47 AM
Keith was a total idiot for revealing the clue without some type of agreement that he would get the idol if it was ever found.

No, Gollum found it first. Gollum even let them touch it when he showed it to them, but it never left his grasp.

"RE: S23 Ep 5 East Coast Spoiler Thread"
Posted by Brownroach on 10-16-11 at 09:06 PM
You mean Albert, I think. Yes but at least Coach did let him know he found it.

So they are equal idiots in a way.

Had to go pick up my daughter at CCD.....so I get back at this point: Albert, Sophie and I got the clue, if you want to do something right, do it yourself, so I have to take this into my own hands...see C praying , and he finds it, Coach wade has found the HII, and low and behold, look what we have here, a golden little gem for C to hold onto, this is the most exciting moment for C in 67 days...C is a happy man, dragon just get back in there, he confides in Sophie and Albert and they all hug! He's not running the show, but pretty close!

I haven't had dinner yet and I'm not sure I want to now.

Keith gets a piece stuck in his teeth, Dawn yanks it out. This happens with several other folks.

It's over.

Savaii 22 lbs 12 oz

Upolu 22 lbs 14 oz they win!

"Post finding the HII"
Posted by Flowerpower on 10-12-11 at 08:37 PM
Coach can hardly contain himself...it is going to be written all over his face, that he has it!

At Savaii day 14, music plays, Cochran tells Ozzy that the ocean is his canvas, he has no outdoorsy skills, no ability no confidence, but he's going out with Ozzy fishing, he's hoping for a bonding experience....see Ozzy fishing with playful music, and Ozzy pulls one out, and confessional, my reputationis is the provider, fishing is not easy, it's very difficult, I get cut up all the time, it's like underwater yoga, it's very difficult, I'm happy to play the provider role, because it will put me in a stronger position, I feel like they are really becoming my tribe...

Cochran notes after Ozzy's seasons he could do not wrong, but now, he's kind of a lazy #####, he's an arrogant fisher boy who's entitled to our deference, the more he feels like this, the more it's going to come back and bite him in the #####!

Challenge:

Rick, big reaction seeing that pig....once again immunity up for grabs...each tribe has a roasted pig, spit the meat out into the basket, most meat after 10 minutes wins reward, veggies, spices, big loaf of bread, show Ozzy smiling....and another clue, see Coach's face....then it's on....

anyway you can get the meat off using your mouth and spit it out in the basket....little pieces in the beginning, Cochran and Elyse getting in there, coach's face covered with sauce, Dawn with a hunk of meat, Coach knbawing off something big, meat stuck in Keith's mouth, Dawn pulls it out, teamwork, Rick with huge piece, Elyse, wow, Albert almost knocks over the entire basket, disgusting Jim, Both tribes getting to know each other in a whole new way, disgusting challenge, Brandon needs to floss, 30 seconds left, both tribe getting alot of meat....

Close, 15 seconds, Savaii needs something big, Jim with a huge piece of meat....done......Ozzy gives Cochran a kiss to get that last little bit....starts with Savaii....22 pounds 12 ounces

Upolu: 22 pounds 14 ounces, Upolu wins by 2 ounces....gives the idol to Sophie, no TC, nice reward and another clue, Brandon points to God, and then we see Edna...and they get to take home the meat....see Dawn, alright Savaii, TC tonight, someone voted out and sent to RI...

Did they also get the 2 big hunks left on the spits bars?

"RE: Post finding the HII"
Posted by michel on 10-12-11 at 09:21 PM
I'm sure I would but it would need a lot of washing and boiling first!!

Jiffy said they get the meat they had in the basket only.

We get to watch LilHantz cook. Now over to Savaii. Cochran is afraid of oral herpes.

Elyse spoke again. Well, whispered.

Ozzy wants Cochran gone. Jim talking to Keith now. Implying that Ozzy will want to target Jim or Keith first. Keith points out that Ozzy won't trust him if they dump Elyse. Whitney weighs in, she seems on board for Elyse but is concerned.

Upolu day 14, fun music....Brandon is all business, my grandma is all cajun and he's cooking up a storm....I believe we are a team and a family...C is going crazy right now and he's so happy, we are back in the drivers seat and we own it right now....

Savaii: Dawn notes that one of her crowns over the molar is gone....Cochran says we are going to have oral herpes....doesn't 99 percent of human beings have oral herpes, are you telling us you just gave us herpes...anyone want a coconut, Im' getting good at it....gives it to Whitney, Ozzy you want any?

Ozzy said when we got back Cochran put on a display and really worked hard, too little too late, everyone feels he's the weakest link and we feel good about him going...

Dawn says Ozzy wants Cochran, it's time to breakup Ozzy and Elyse...see Dawn and Cochran and Jim...Jim needs at least 4 votes to get Elyse out....see him with Keith....He has a piece of fear that I can use to vote out Elyse...Jim is talking to Keith...if we get rid of Elyse first, blah, blah, blah, me you Dawn and Cochran,

Keith: Tonight's vote, Elyse and Ozzy voting for Cochran, they are voting for Elyse, so Whitney and I have room, if Elyse gets blindsided then Ozzy gets blindsided, so how is Ozzy going to trust me....see Keith and Whit....Whitney, Ozzy is not going to like it, and there goes our alliance....what would be se bad if we voted out Cochran....We are trying to figure out how to do this and still come out ok with Ozzy...Jim tells Cochran, we are good, Elyse is out..

Cochran: Worst case scenario...I get sent to RI, I don't care if Ozzy thinks we are all against him, we are all against him....

Ozzy: Where are we at right now from a game, he says it's all about keeping us a strong as possible

Elyse what is a strong tribe member: someone who is strong across the board, challenges, at camp, socially

Cochran are uyou scared since your legs are not tree trunks....we did a fantastic job at the challenge, 2 ounces, one extra bite.

Jim we all gave 100 percent, woulda shoulda coulda, give me the run down who has an injury...chipped tooth, dislocated jaw, tooth, lips, Cochran felt his teeth shifting...Dawn Cochran's need to assess and reassess how often is that charming and how often is it annoying, Dawn?

Cochran says we could have some communicable disease, hilarious but not...

Keith says that it was nasty, it grossed everyone out...Cochran you can't catch a break....he obsesses about everything here...

Elyse can you feel for Cochran....Yes, we have all been there, we have all been picked last for soccer....

All of the neurosis aside, I think I get along with most folks, they do take to me...

Elyse, given everything, would it be hard to vote Cochran out? He will appreciate the experience whatever

Jim: always a personal element to it, even if it is strategic because he knows how it will affect that person when they see their name on there....

Jim votes Elyse, this is about keeping Ozzy weak
Ozzy votes Coch train...how you get that second chance

Jeff tally's the votes:

Cochran
Lys
Cochran
Elice
Dawn
Dawn
Elise

5th person out, Elyse

showing Ozzy looking stoic...then looks down...this game just took a big turn

They all got oral injuries at the IC.

Lots of avoidance in the editing. Ozzy hasn't spoken at all, everyone else has.

Votes
Jim votes Elyse
Ozzy votes Cochran

The votes
Cochran
Elyse
Cochran
Elyse
Dawn
Dawn
Elyse

Elyse is voted out.

Hmm, looks like Keith And Whitney had plans of their own.

Now we know why Keith & Whitney haven't had too much screen time until tonight -- they are MORONS. They actually think that allowing Elyse to be voted out -- with their knowledge -- by throwing worthless votes in a cowardly manner at Dawn would somehow keep their alliance with Ozzy in tact? Even if that was a possibility (which it isn't -- it was voting Elyse out by omission) what was it for? To throw away a solid 4 plus 1 alliance (Jim would have voted Cochran if they had told him flat out "no") AND they just weakened their tribe.

I don't know if they were stupid . They could tell Ozzy that Jim said he wanted to vote for Dawn because she was making more noise about getting rid of Ozzy, so they agreed. We'll have to see how it plays out next week.

Except they also have Jim in camp to call them liars.

The smart part is isolating Ozzy. Jim, Cochran and Dawn will most likely go after Ozzy next, Ozzy can save himself with the HII, Keith and Whitney can vote with Ozzy or just vote together against one of the three in case Ozzy tries to one-vote one of them off.

It would have been smarter had Whitney gone ahead and voted Cochran, Keith voted Elyse, and then Whitney could still be pretend friends with Ozzy

I doubt Keith or Whitney told the other three that Ozzy has the idol. As you point out, Ozzy now appears isolated and is calling himself a "free agent." It sure doesn't look like Cochran or Dawn will want to align with him. He really has no recourse except to go back to Keith and Whitney, who are now in a position to decide who they want to play with. Knowing Ozzy has the idol, it would be better for them to side with him next time, to ensure he doesn't bounce either of them with it.

It was dumb of them BUT, no way did they weaken the tribe. If anything, Cochran would be a much better choice to do puzzles. He is prepared, having seen all the puzzles ever done on the game. Elyse is weaker than Dawn, probably weaker than Whitney and we haven't seen any great mental abilities. Look at it this way: Which player will be favored between Christine and Elyse? I say Christine.

Actually, the reason to keep Cochran is that he is a student of the game. Not once in this game has Savaii been up on Upolu; they go down 1, get back even, go down 1, get back even, go down 1. If they reach the merge down in numbers they need a smart student of the game to help them play the weakside game and stage a comeback.

Cochran, may be a student of the game, but he hasn't had an original idea yet. By his own admission he has already told us that he SUCKS at puzzles. He's a number with a mouth, imo.

I don't necessarily think that voting out Elyse is bad for Savaii. Frankly, I think it is more of a unifying move than a move that splits them. Isolating Ozzy is only bad for Ozzy. Cochran is right though, the more hoopla Ozzy makes of the blindside, the more he unifies the rest of the tribe.

It is the first time I recall someone teaming up with a schemer like Jim with the ulterior motive of getting another player, Ozzy, mad at him.

In the vote, Cochran basically was in Becky's situation: The tribe's majority, led by Ozzy, wanted to vote him out but a smart player came to his rescue and got members of the majority to change their votes. The thing is though that the Beckys in Survivor do not get to express their thoughts on the plan and they certainly don't see a few steps ahead of that one move.

And when did he say he sucks at puzzles? I don't doubt you but I don't remember hearing it. Anyway, he probably meant that he isn't as good as he wished he were but I'm sure he'd be better than Elyse who would "double-suck"!

It came out in an early article reporting on Ep 1. Cochran was arguing at TC that they needed to keep him around for puzzles but the reporter said Cochran had confided earlier that he sucked at puzzles.

ETA: It was Dalton Ross at EW.

Tribal Council! Oh, lordy, this was a doozy. Tribal Councils go on for much longer than what we end up seeing on the show, and this one went on forever! And the longer it went, the worse things started to look for John. You got a taste of it on TV, but thankfully only a taste because it was difficult to watch. He kept talking in circles and repeating himself while not really offering any compelling reason to keep him around other than a vague promise to "get better." (He also told them they would need to keep him around for when they had puzzle challenges, although he informed me before the game that he was worried everyone would think he was a puzzle guy because he looked so nerdy, when he was actually very bad at them. Uh-oh.)

Additionally, there was a video clip of a pre-game interview as well when he spoke about not being good at puzzles. But, this is all of Cochran's self assessments, who knows, his worst performance at a puzzle could be someone else's best.

AND they just weakened their tribe.

I agree with Michel, voting out Elyse did not weaken the tribe. She was lazy, made the others work harder around camp to make up for her. She was useless in challenges, especially the boogie board challenge. Her absence will not be missed.

Even if it didn't weaken the tribe -- although I bet anything Elyse could have pushed that wheelbarrow coming up next episode better than Cochran -- but for arguments sake, lets call it a wash. Was it worth throwing away a SOLID 4 person alliance to team up with 1 person you know to be a weasel/opportunist (Jim) and someone who will turn on you in a hot minute to get himself 3 more days in the game (Cochran)?

No, it isn't.

But it was, or at least it could be, we haven't seen how this plays out yet.

We know how strong a PAIR can be in this game. Others have seen it in the past too. If they had allowed Ozzy to continue to keep his back pocket girl, then you continue to keep HIM strong longer. Elyse was like him having 2 idols, except that she had eyes and ears and could watch his back.

They didn't weaken their tribe pre-merge, so there is STILL the opportunity to win the next 2 challenges and be up in numbers at merge. They have got to believe that Christine will beat Elyse and Christine has already told Savaii that she was NOT going to go back to Upolu if she makes it back in the game.

By isolating Ozzy, he has 2 choices. Dance with the devil that he knows vs dance with the other tribe who may use him for a vote or 2 and then get rid of him.

Ozzy made a slip when he said that Coach should get rid of Albert, he tipped his hand. The others did the right thing by pre-emptively avoiding Ozzy being the one to be the first to blindside them.

All Elyse was good for was camera shots worthy of the next issue of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition. That's the edit she got and deserved.

Coach: Brandon looks like Russell it scares the h$ll out of me

Ozzy to his tribe when arriving back after TC: I'm playing for myself and you guys can play for yourselves, I'm now what you call a free agent

Then we see Ozzy sitting by himself on a rock by the water all by himself in the day time....and confessional from Cochran...

Cochran: I hope he continues to be a cry baby because it's great for me.

Jiffy at the challenge: Savaii can't even get their coconuts in the trough, as we see Ozzy not pushing the wheelbarrow full of coconuts

Elyse: Tonight after Tribal, I have to admit it was a total surprise to me, everybody likes to think that they are friends with everybody, but at the end of the day that is just not the case so the trust is forever broken....because how do you know who to trust after feeling so betrayed, and betrayed by several people...

Well, I'd say that the writing is on the wall....if Ozzy isn't going to help the Savaii in challenges, he's no good to anyone. He'll be toast next week...imo. The only question is though, will he play his idol or not?

"RE: Next time on Survivor..."

Missed the show tonight so thanks BR and FP for the play by play!

Seems to me that Ozzy is better off going to RI w/the HII in his pocket and saving it for later, esp. if his competition is someone like Elyse....although I guess it's a tough call.

No surprises tonight except for Keith and Whitney voting Dawn....do they really think that will work with Ozzy? (Then again, he's not the sharpest one in the bunch.) Based on their concern about not alienating Ozzy, I wonder if K and W will think they can flip again and side with Ozzy on the next vote and try to force a tie (or use the HII) and vote out 1 of Jim/Cochran/Dawn to break up that threesome.

Will be interesting to see if Ozzy will flip at the merge, esp. if he's the RI returnee. I need to go back and watch the duel where both Ozzy and Coach attended....I vaguely recall a knowing look exchanged between them. Would love to see some sort of cross-tribe alliance.

How was Coach's finding the HII positioned in the editing? Smart move or dumb move to tell Albert and Sophie?

"RE: Next time on Survivor..."
Posted by Flowerpower on 10-12-11 at 09:26 PM
I think that Albert is the one that found the clue and confided in Sophie and Coach at first. Then, Coach went and found it, and they all celebrated...

When Ozzy was telling the tribe after TC at night that he was now going to be a free agent, they focused on Keith....

I agree, there was a glance between Coach and Ozzy as they were being flown in on the helicopter. Perhaps a "plan B" for both of them....?

"RE: Next time on Survivor..."

Coach's revelation of the hii was not presented negatively IMO. Sophie gave him a hug afterward. Albert, who got quite a bit of facetime tonight, appears loyal to Coach. So for now it does not seem like it will cause issues.

Yep, there was one. And, in the TV Guide channel preview that aired before the season started Ozzy told the camera that he hopes he & Coach can team up "and run the table" on the newbies. So, I'd bet anything it's been discussed.

I agree, Ozzy is better off going to RI with the HII in his pocket at this point to come back in & use it after merge against whatever remains of Savaii. We know enough of him to know that he'll risk going to RI just to have the chance to annihilate all the members of Savii.

Plus, I've been predicting that Ozzy is going to get voted out with the HII in his pocket (like last time) only this time it will not "go to waste" because he goes to RI with it, comes back into the game & uses it to save himself at some point. He did say episode 1 that he "needs redemption."

Interesting, Kiki....I missed the pre-season show....need to look that up...but I've had the vibe ever since that "look" that maybe they'll team up in some way.

BR and FP, sounds like Coach is still getting a good edit if no foreboding that he screwed up with the HII....he must make it far....never thought I'd see the day.

And 2 HIIs in play at the merge will be fun to see! This season is shaping up to be much more interesting than I ever thought it would be.

After Aitutaki voted against Cecilia, Ozzy's ally, he also declared himself a free agent. That time he went to Jonathan and Yul, the ones that had led the vote against Cecilia, saying he would be honest with them if they were honest with him. Yul was an honest man so Ozzy stayed with him. Will he do it again?

Of course, there is a notable difference: Aitutaki had been formed the previous day. This time, it was his own alliance that went against him.

"RE: Next time on Survivor..."

I'm not so sure that Keith sees Jim/Dawn/Cochran as a threesome.

I think Keith sees Jim as an ally, and that Dawn and Cochran are on the side, with Dawn seen as a strong contributor.

Keith and Whitney are a pair. They didn't want another pair. They want the core alliance to be the 4 with themselves as a pair.

Jim presented the Elyse move as totally his own response. Keith and Whitney were there without argument. Clearly Ozzy and Elyse were coupling up A LOT and did themselves in with the Love Shack action.

So I really think that no one on Savai'i core alliance considered Cochran to have been key to the Elyse boot. He was just a vote that player Jim secured, However, Dawn probably saw how he was playing, and Dawn was also portrayed as a player -- even though she got zero credit from the younger core group.

Basically the editing made Ozzy and Elyse look arrogant and clueless, Whitney looked conniving but indecisive, Keith looked disloyal and indecisive. Jim looked sleazy but competent, except that his sleaze is transparent.

Cochran and Dawn were portrayed as underdog strategists who set a goal and watched it manifest.

Of the two, I know Cochran is getting the huge edit, but Dawn is just as on top of it without the neuroses and becoming COA.

"RE: Next time on Survivor..."

Great observations, OFG, as always. I am in agreement. Cochran is being forced, and frankly, I don't really like him. It was JIm's plan, and Dawn is more decisive than Cochran is.

I think Ozzy is very clueless. He's played the game 2 times before and knows it, yet he's playing with newbies that are very in tuned and eager/desperate to survive. The game is moving at a fast pace for them, and Ozzy doesn't like it....but, he's in the minority, he needs to adapt and keep THEM happy. But, he hasn't, he's causing friction, and this will lead to his demise. He insists on playing his way, being the provider, but not playing or even listening to them socially. Ozzy is going to get what is coming to him.

It would be interesting if Ozzy were to land on RI and face all of the Savaii's that had a hand in his demise and he were to beat them one by one. Certainly bodes well for the theme of "redemption". I just hope that somewhere along the line Ozzy recognizes his own faults and weaknesses, now that would be real redemption for him!

"Ozzy, the idol and R Island"
Posted by OllieKat on 10-13-11 at 11:18 AM
I know there are some people saying that it would be a decent idea for Ozzy to go ahead and not play his idol and instead take his chances on R.I., but I just can't see the wisdom in that. He was very good at individual challenges in the past, but that was the past and the RI challenges aren't (or haven't been) overly physical. So far we've seen balancing an object on a pole, a beanbag toss, and ball catching - I don't see where he would have had a big advantage in any of those. Even though we haven't seen it, I'm sure that the players who have seen the duels describe them when they get back so Ozzy most likely knows what the challenges have been. Why would he take any kind of chance of losing at RI and leaving the game when he doesn't have to because of the idol?

"RE: Ozzy, the idol and R Island"
Posted by kiki_k on 10-13-11 at 11:37 AM
IDA with this meme that seems to have sprung up lately that Ozzy wouldn't have great chances of winning at RI. He has balance & good hand-eye-coordination. He would totally dominate just like Matt did -- sure Matt went out on the LAST one after playing every single one of them less the first 2.

"RE: Ozzy, the idol and R Island"
Posted by OllieKat on 10-13-11 at 05:39 PM
For the sake of argument I'll agree that Ozzy has a good chance of winning a couple of RI duels but there is no guarantee that he would win while there is a guarantee of staying in the game three more days if he plays the idol. Not only is he still in the game, it's three days he can use to search for a re-hidden idol (he's already proven he doesn't need a clue to find it). It wouldn't do him any good to hold onto an idol to use after the merge if the highly-unlikely happens and he loses on RI.

"RE: Ozzy, the idol and R Island"
Posted by kiki_k on 10-13-11 at 09:48 PM
You are right -- as we are dealing with possibilities, anything is possible and we can go round & round all day about it.

I'm basing my theory on what I'm seeing in the edit. I felt that when Ozzy found the HII and talked about what happened "last time" that it was foreshadowing that he would get voted out again with the HII in his pocket only this time he would be able to use it, meaning he would come back from RI with it & use it. Now that he *knows* the others aren't loyal, he can't be "blindsided" with the HII in his pocket, but he *could* choose to take his chances on RI.

As I said, this is just spec on my part based on the edit. I could be totally wrong.
