"Question from a Heroes newbie"

Posted by Spanky68 on 11-27-07 at 05:36 PM
I never got a chance to see Season I, but picked up the first couple of episodes at Blockbuster (figured I'd take a chance with my free rental) last week.

I really liked the first couple of episodes of Season I. But before I get hooked, can some Heroes expert tell me: Is the show as consistently gory as the first couple of episodes? Somebody (I think Syler) cut the tops of two peoples' heads off in Episode II. And the softcore porn blonde's "mirror twin" sliced and diced the two mob strong armed guys. And the invincible cheerleader cut her own fingers off (in grisly detail) reaching for her class ring.

I kind of expect that with a series adapted from a graphic novel (comic book, maybe?). Am I right?

Thanks in advance

I am probably not the best person to respond, but I will anyway. I found the first couple of episodes relied on the shock value of some of the scenes you describe. As the story progresses, there is significantly more character development. As such, while the goriness remains, you don't tend to notice or focus on it in the same manner as the earlier episodes.

Stick with it Spanky - you will certainly enjoy it.

It gets less gory and it's a great show. There are a couple episodes near the middle of the first season where you will get some more heads, sans top but for the most part its not that gory.

Syren did this

I took the plunge and rented the 2nd disk.

I am afraid I am hooked. Hiro is such a cool character.

I like Hiro too. Turns out the actor who plays him is a genius with an IQ of 180. Also works for George Lucas at Industrial Light and Magic — he was the one who invented various CGI ocean stuff, like for The Perfect Storm, et al.

Gauging from some of the actors' commentaries on the DVDs, he's pretty well-liked and respected by the rest of the cast, too. Both he and the actor playing Ando are well-liked.

LB and I agree on that. We find both of them to be likable and engaging.

I really like Ando a lot. He cracks me up. The actor who plays the Indian professor said tha Ando is the Everyman who "grounds" the show (all the other characters are running around going nuts, and Ando is just cool about it all).

Thanks.

Lovely Bride and I have been stealing an hour or two every night after we get the kiddos in bed to watch some Heroes. We're thru Ep 7 (0f season 1) now. Peter has just fought Sylar and Eden has subdued Sylar.

I am SO relieved that Claire's dad isn't Syler. It seemed like he was until now.
