All you Sanjaya haters, please take a look at this clip on YouTube. The boy can sing. Granted, he hasn't really proven himself since the auditions, but he has it in him.

I've never thought anyone in the semifinals to finals cannot sing.

Some sing better than others, to be sure, but I think they all can sing.

The problem is can they sing when the pressure is on. Do they have the technique and experience to sound good on stage in front of millions of people. Do they know how to protect the voice so they sound good consistantly and don't strain their voice in practice, etc.

Or do they let the nerves get to them which makes the voice a bit small and strangled.

Being able to perform is a separate skill set from being able to sing.

For instance. Singing just for pleasure I do OK, In a performance I do OK. Can't sing in an audition to save my life. Seems my voice does a lot of the same things at an audition that it sounds like I said above that Sanjaya's is doing on performance nights. If I really wanted to sing on stage I'd have to get a coach that could get me over the audition problem and give me enough technique for sustained used of my voice.

Snidget--agree about the emphasis on "perform" versus "sing".

I think this is key to how people gain fans, a following, and finally, votes. Whenever Simon says "it's a singing contest" and goes on to criticize how someone moves or dresses makes me cringe.

Peter Noone tried to call him out by saying it's not a singing contest--it's a voting contest...imo was his way of spotlighting the performance aspect.

Both performance and also the "likability" factor.

Some people just get people to like them so they will vote for them.

Look at Taylor Hicks. Not the strongest singer, performances were odd. Yet, he had so much energy and joy that even if he was weird on stage and not the best singer in the competition it made people like him enough to vote for him.

Sanja is not the best but he has not been the worst the last 3 weeks before that he should have gone but now he is not so bad. I did not vote for him but I think America has been right the last 3 weeks. Why does everybody hate him so much
During the last few weeks he was not the worst in MHO? Brandon forgot the words and so did Haley. Steph was almost non existant preformance wise and deserved to go. Unless improvement is seen soon Haley,Chris R. and Phil should be the next 3. Then Sanjaya.
But you know things can change that is why they eliminate one and the rest stay. Could get interesting.

thanks for the clip.. I re-watched "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" and honestly, don't know why the judges didn't like it.. he may be low-key, but what's wrong with that? I hope that he does really well tonight and lasts even longer.. and please, no more crying girls, good grief!

I'm with you, GB. I've been supporting little Sanjaya all along, because I know he has the talent and I've been cutting him slack because he is obviously the REAL timid one of the F12 and figured he will get more confident as each week goes by. Last week was a real turnaroud point for him, as he just came out and let loose.

Last night he had some really bad moments with Bathwater, but then there were some really great parts as well. I think if he can rise above the fray (as it is hard at 17 to take the shots he's been taking), I see serious potential in this boy. I've posted everywhere else that I think Sanjaya would be a great "idol" for the teen & preteen kiddies. I'm so frustrated with kids growing up too fast today and I think there is a serious need for a "safe" teen pin-up idol.

Simon is an idiot with his "if Sanjaya wins, I'll quit" mindset. Don't these people realize they have a potential goldmine here? This kid could be a TV personality (sitcom), marketing (dolls, etc), pumping out pop albums. Simon loves to talk about the "IT factor" and Sanjaya is the biggest "IT" they have had.

If AI were all about a singing competition only, no one would be watching and voting.

When I was growing up it was Leif Garrison and Shaun Cassidy. And the Gibbs.....

Sanjaya isn't really too far from any of them.

Kentucky Fried Chicken has issued their latest reality TV challenge. The President of KFC has written an open letter to American Idol finalist Sanjaya Malakar offering him a lifetime supply of KFC Famous Bowls if he will sport a bowl cut during one of his upcoming American Idol performances. In addition, KFC says they will make a charitable contribution in his name.

agreed. its very sweet to believe in people, but when the talent aint there... sorry, i just cant buy it! i dont want american idol to become a joke.. not that my life is gonna be turned upside down if it does, but GEEZ, cant people take things seriously sometimes? after all, people's careers depend on this.

and that is why, Sanjaya NEEDS to go to give a chance for those who have at least SOME talent to make it to the finals.

it's backstage interviews after the results show. Jennifer and Marc's comments are near the end, you have grin and bear it through the comments from the judges, etc. the interviewer is simon's gf, terri seymour.

Marc in particular makes it quite clear how much potential he sees in Sanjaya, he wants to adopt him and teach him all his tricks.

For monster links like that you want to paste it into this site and get a short URL for it http://www.tinyurl.com

I did that for what you have there and got this

That way you don't make the page so wide no one can read any of the posts.

Let me know if that isn't the right link.

That edit button on your post will let you replace the long link with the short one.

Agman needs to do that too, now since he uses the reply with quotes and now it is on here twice.

If y'all don't do that the thread will be unreadable forever.

You mean, the way it was before, it was stretching the screen for you?

Anyway, I fixed it.

Yep it was stretching it all crazy wide for me.

I don't know if it does for everyone, but it does for a bunch of people when it has something that cannot be wrapped like an extra long link.

Thanks!

I think “Boot Scootin Boogie” could, in theory, be a major kick.

at this point, he's the most interesting thing this season has to offer.

(unless/until Blake breaks out again, I swear somebody has muzzled that boy's creative spark.)

Posted by priestdi on 04-19-07 at 11:02 AM

the very fact that people joined this board just to b*itch about him, or started watching just to see what the fuss was about, was signficant. people saying they wouldn't watch until he's gone just seemed silly to me. If there was someone they really liked this year, they'd watch anyway.

even kelly clarkson just said Sanjaya and Jordin are her favorites, she found him really entertaining.

I sure hope Blake uses last night's scare to break out again and be original, stand out.

"Some credit for Sanjaya"
Posted by PagongRatEater on 04-19-07 at 11:51 AM
First of all, there were flashes of talent in there. Last week was his best week ever, but this week might have been his worst. He needed to go and it happened.

What I would like to give him credit for is conducting himself with an incredible amount of class through all the controversy. He accepted his fate with a smile and a tear, and pretty much smiled through all the ridiculousness, the barbs and the insults. He just seems to be a genuinely nice guy and deserves some credit for that.

So long Sanjaya. Keep smiling.

there's a TMZ video of Paula from last night, and they rap her for causually saying "oh he'll be fine."

he has too much natural grace and charisma to just vanish, now that he's a household name.

I agree. Except for his pandering to Paula, the Tony Bennett song wasn't bsd, because it didn't require a strong voice. His Counrty Night song, belted out with a strong, masculine voice, was his best ever. But, he still needed to go. He sings too few songs well enough to be AI material.

>>What I would like to give him credit for is conducting himself with an incredible amount of class through all the controversy.<<

Hear Hear!!

He handled an INCREDIBLE amount of bashing and abuse with great humor & class. He never got snarky or petulant about it unlike....

Antonella, who also went through a difficult time, however, her bad times were caused by her own stupid actions, and she had judges & producers from the show backing her up in the press.

Sanjaya's bashing was much more universal, and on camera, and he handled it impressively well.

Bravo sweetie! And enjoy your time as a teen idol. I've got my fingers crossed that you learn to sing through your nerves as well as you perform through your nerves. Then, in 6-8 years, maybe we'll all be buying your CDs.

(Also, he's way more talented than Antonella. Though his oobies appear to be smaller.)

I will give him credit for being a gentleman, but he cannot sing... not in front of an audience

Give him a few years, a good producer and manager and a studio and maybe he will be able to cut some decent cd's. Beyond that, IMHO, he has no business being in front of a camera singing.

" Sanjaya on the Today Show"
Posted by YankeeDixieDoodle on 04-24-07 at 02:35 PM
This morning, Sanjaya was on the Today Show. Glad-handing with the crowd and being interviewed by Matt Lauer. He got a GED right after his sophomore year. I wonder why. Emancipated minor? Trying to further his "singing" career? Thank goodness Lauer didn't have him sing. He said his singing got better as the show progressed. I agree with that. His voice did get stronger. And, sounded more masculine. But, it still wasn't good enough to win. In another four years, with more vocal training, plenty of practice, and a decent haircut, maybe he'll stand a better chance of winning.

I'm not much of a Sanjaya fan as you know but I wonder what his voice will sound like when he is into his twenties. For all we know his voice may not have changed all that long ago so his vocal cords are still developing. Normally I would write him off, but I have a nephew who was an aspiring singer since high school. Now he is 25 and his voice has taken off. Somethingto think about. agman

Now, that was highly infomative, no pun intended. So, "Hair-jaya" didn't do his homework in HS? But, neither did he do enough "homework" on his AI song choices. Including the final "nail in his coffin" on Country Night. Want to what TV Guide says about his song choice? He chose "Everybody's Talking About It" because of all the commotion over his hair. What a stupid reason to choose a song!
