We've hit the Semi-Finals! *woo-hoo!*

However, it seems the injury bug has finally hit the studios, and with a vengeance... First it was Mark's ankle injury a few weeks back, then Ralph's knee injury last week... and this past week's practice saw Kym Johnson get rushed to the hospital after a fall in practice... (we're guaranteed to see something about it sometime during the show...)

3 Dances tonight, one of which appears to be something like a Winner-Take-All Cha Cha Cha for 15 bonus points, or something like that?

Tomorrow will again have a Dancing highlight show at 8... this time showing the best of the best Freestyle performances in series history...

Egad woman, I hope you aren't using that for the drinking game. I got tipsy just coming in this thresd.

One good thing about NYC - no driving. May need a designated walker, though.

Everyone's looking at least healthy enough for the first dance...

Band though, incurable svck...

Well it probably is a good sign they are letting her out of the neck brace at all. We'll see if she does anything to favor it.

Loving wardrobe tonight! Not many can wear the dress Brook has poured over her. Carrie Ann looks very chic. What can I say about Kirstie, she is wearing that dress!

"Ralph/Karina"
Posted by vince3 on 05-16-11 at 08:06 PM
Last week's leg injuries caused him to be at the bottom of the leaderboard, but he was saved by the fans...

His knee's still sore, but he thinks it will hold up...

They're trying to make him hip-hop... but he's 'too white', and she decided to try to give him a little bit of butt stuffing for the Samba...

Dancing the Argentine Tango to what sounds like traditional Argentine Tango music... (if Qwerty can survive the performance maybe she can shed light on what it's really called...)

I thought he did a good job with it. Looks like his knee is feeling a lot better.

Oh yeah! Props!

When Mr. Qwerty and I were starting out with AT and didn't know what the heck we were doing, we had LOTS of props.

"RE: Ralph/Karina"

And no, I do not recognize the music at all. Whether this was due to band svckage or they didn't want to pay royalties and just made something up I don't know.

"Kirstie/Maksim"

Salsa lacked impact, but the Argentine Tango set the floor on fire...

They have more moments of arguing during practice, causing a Kirstie storm out...

Maks blaming exhaustion for the emotional breakdowns...

That was pretty, and better extension through the arms than usual. Thanks for fixing that after I complained about it.

That seemed a bit awkward and I really couldn't watch her dance from the distraction of the just a bit too high slit.

Bruno almost had an aneurism waiting for his turn...

Scores: 9-9-10! for a total of 28... I thought at least Carrie Ann was gonna bring out an 8 the way she was talking...

Gees, a hissy fit on a guy is so attractive.

And the music is vaguely familiar, I'll see if I can place it.

"Hines/Kym"
Posted by vince3 on 05-16-11 at 08:39 PM
Tom warns that the injury footage may be hard to watch...

Hines wowed the judges with his performance last week, granting his safety...

Kym's trying to choreograph stuff she hasn't done before (let alone anyone has done before...) and it's causing tension...

Kym was curled up on the floor and he was supposed to pull her up through her legs and instead she didn't go anywhere and he landed on top of her... it wasn't pretty to watch...

Damn... that sobered me right up. Holy crap! That is hard to watch.

That was amazing. Kym does look a bit swollen but man, she is a real pro! And Hines just won my heart with his gentleness and protectiveness of her during the performance.

"RE: Hines/Kym"

RANT ALERT: WHAT IN THE HELL WAS SHE THINKING? DOING A MOVE SHE'S NEVER DONE BEFORE, WITH SOMEONE WHO IS NOT PROFESSIONALLY TRAINED AS A DANCER? Hines was right it is Do or Die. I am absolutely sick with the greater emphasis on tricks and the lesser and lesser emphasis on dancing. /RANT

The way Kym landed on her neck was so scary. I remember a gymnast that landed on her neck just like that that was in a wheelchair for the rest of her life. I'm so glad she's okay.

"RE: Hines/Kym"
Posted by Snidget on 05-16-11 at 08:42 PM
Very good job!! She does look like she's holding some tension in her neck but not enough to break the lines of the dance.

Standing ovation from both the judges and crowd... (they didn't even attempt the move that caused her injury... whether it was for this dance or not I'm not certain...)

Kym apparently had a slight wardrobe malfunction that Tom covered up after Len's review...

Scores: 10!-10!-10! for a total for 30, first perfect score of the season!

Apparently Drew/Cheryl will re-do the Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy Freestyle LIVE tomorrow night...

That was not good.

I'm starting to think this is one of the reasons I like Chelsea/Mark more than so many others . SYTYCD is probably my favorite overall show, so all of the "contemporary" moves that others complain about just make me like the dance more .

Tournament format: 1st vs. 4th, 2nd vs. 3rd after the first two rounds... winners then have to do an Instant Cha Cha in which they'll have 3-5 minutes to figure out their dance to that music...

Both did well. I think it was easier for Chelsea as Mark should be the lead. I could tell Kym was leading Hines through that in parts and that distracted me.

"RE: Winner Takes All Cha Cha Cha"

"RE: Winner Takes All Cha Cha Cha"

I think this was a complete setup and they knew they were giving it to Chelsea and Mark before the dance started. They want Mark and the Disney girl in the finale. And she probably has the lowest fanbase of the 4 left. They do not have to help Hines' fanbase. It is going to be between Ralph and Kirstie's fans to battle it out for the final spot.

"RE: Winner Takes All Cha Cha Cha"

So true. The show knows the numbers and it is obvious that Chelsie needs the padding to protect herself from Ralph's fan base.

"RE: Winner Takes All Cha Cha Cha"
Posted by JessicaRN on 05-17-11 at 09:21 AM
I got the feeling that this was just created to give someone extra points who wasn't a sure thing, like Hines should be. Considering Kym had an injury, they certainly didn't baby her with having her running around changing costumes and hitting the floor again. If her partner were not in great shape, I don't think that cha-cha would have gone near this well.

Started out hating Hines, because that's what we Denver Bronco fans do, but I have fallen in love with him.

(Just wondered last night if offensive football players fare better than defensive players?)

"Can someone confirm this for me?"
Posted by qwertypie on 05-17-11 at 09:17 AM
It seemed that Mark and Chelsie were doing the same (or extremely similiar) choreo for both rounds, just the camera angles were different.
