"Times Talk Live: Lost"

I went to the theater tonight, it was an enjoyable time. Damon Lidelof and Carlton Cuse talked and talked, answered some questions, evaded others. Great line: "I've talked for about 40 seconds now and not answered your question." Later they were joined by Michael Emerson and Jorge Garcia for more fun answering and not answering questions.

All in all, though, getting them for around an hour and forty-five minutes is way better than standard 5 to 8 minute segments on talk shows. I'm not kidding, I'm really juiced now about the finale, seems like they have it together.

Four clips were shown from the series, and I must say Lost on the big screen is incredible, wish I could watch the whole thing that way.

Push the button clip from season 2, John as the man of faith and Jack as the cynic. It was never easy! Powerful stuff, and they went into how that related to other scenes throughout the series, Jack as the man of faith and Sawyer as the doubter with the bomb on the sub.

Desmond and Penny on the phone, maybe the most powerfully emotional scene in the entire run. You called! You answered! They related how "The Constant" was really their first dip into time travel, how they wanted to avoid paradoxes, how consequently they had to have endless discussions about all the possible ramifications of everything, that episode took about five weeks to write as opposed to the standard 10 days.

Miles and Hurley time travel discussion scene, one of my favorites from season five! A lot of season five came about because they wanted to do the Dharma Initiative back story but just having some guy stumble out of the jungle and reminisce about the good old DI days would have been a bore. That scene relates what it was like in the writers room throughout the entire series. Just as "every question I answer will only lead to another question" was also them sort of breaking the fourth wall to speak directly to the audience.

Nikki and Paulo, the big mistake. No clip for this, but they do pay attention to the audience and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. When they decided to kill them off having Sawyer say "Nikki who?" at the start of the episode was a nod to the audience, and having them buried alive was intended in a tongue in cheek sort of way.

The final clip was from "The End" and they said they tried to pick one that wasn't spoilery. Well, that's what they said. Ben and Locke at the well, the well is Desmondless, they discover James spying on them, James gets away pretty quickly but not before letting Locke know they aren't candidates any more. Locke is really determined now to use Desmond to destroy the island. Ben thought he meant that metaphorically when he said it the first time. Nope, he means that literally, and Ben can come with him on his ship if he wants or stay on the island it's up to him.

Some minor spoiler stuff from the show in hidden text:

Dog tracks around the well. After everything they've done to let us know not to trust Widmore WHY NOW would we believe anything he said! We can expect to see Malcolm.

Thanks dabo! Great read, I did not read the spoilers though. I also heard that the DVD being released this summer will have an extra 20 minutes added to the last episode. This should include some answers to minor questions that just could not fit into the last episode!

Yeah, my son told me yesterday about the extra 20 minutes. We were going to get the DVD set anyway, but this year maybe we won't wait for Christmas to break it out. That extra footage should allow them to syndicate the finale into three "hour" episodes.

Wow, what an opportunity, and thanks for sharing! Much of this morning, I have spent reviewing the notes from Season 1. So many, many great quotes and themes introduced, but the most important one, imo, was the debate between fate and science, as personified by Locke vs. Jack. And a constant theme throughout.

The scene with Desmond and Penny. wow. Just a classic scene in this entire series. It evokes some much relief, so much love, and gives us all so much hope. Hope, another major theme.

I loved their dialect to the audience. It happened so many times. The characters would indeed verbalize what the audience is thinking. WELL DONE!

As for the last clip with Sawyer getting captured and taken to Locke at the well. It sounds like the second sneak peek from ABC. But, you got more...? We know that Locke, Ben, and Sawyer can see that Desmond is gone. Responding to your invisible text in my invisible text:

So if there are dog tracks around the well then either Rose and Bernard, who last had Vincent with them, saved Desmond from the well, OR, Walt came back with Vincent and saved Desmond??? Just my 2 cents?
