I wish I got Bravo. I love watching poker on TV when the commentators are good. Fox Sports Net showed it once with lame, lame commentators and it sucked.

We really do have guidelines here. Believe it or not, the Guidelines make things more fun. Really.

It wasn’t bad – Kevin Pollack was one of the announcers, and he was the worst thing about it. Some guy from Sex In The City that I had never heard of won last night’s round. He knocked out both David Schwimmer and Ben Affleck by getting a straight with the last card turned over (the river, for you Texas Hold’Em afficianados) when the only possible way that he could beat them was to get the straight. (Schwimmer was holding three aces!)

Darn, missed the first night and it sounds like two of the biggest celebs have already been eliminated. Who is left?

They are going to have a different table of five celebs each week, and the five weekly winners will face off for the final prize. Next week it's five cast members from the West Wing.

Ben Affleck is a serious poker player, so that's a definite upset. He and Matt Damon started entering tournaments once Matt got hooked on the game as part of his research for "Rounders".

The West Wing cast should be an interesting episode. Those folks are such big poker fans that Aaron Sorkin wrote it into the show early on.

Hey, Weasel, I've got a nice gif pic of a weasel for ya. I'll post it at the Temple.

I didn't even know there was a Celebrity Poker show. What type do they play. I enjoyed the World Series of Poker on ESPN.

Texas Hold' Em - the same game they play on the Travel channel and ESPN.

"Ladies' Night"

Since I don't get Bravo, I'll just have to settle for watching Ladies' Night on the World Poker Tour Wednesday night on the Travel Channel.

I've been watching - my fiance and I are hooked! Last night's episode was great. Martin Sheen and Allison Janney got eliminated really fast and the three remaining players played some great poker after that. It's so fun watching them try to bluff one another.

Richard Schift (Did I spell that right? I've never watched The West Wing.)

I was rooting for John too, Dweeze, mostly because Richard's open mouth gum chomping was really annoying.

This show is really disappointing me and my hubby-- we were expecting far more talking among the players, and the show goes very fast, so it's difficult to get a handle on what's transpired. Kevin Pollack makes stupid jokes about the losers getting to go in the lounge and make fun of the people still playing, but that, too, is uneventful. BORING! I'm glad you all are enjoying though!!

This is the absolute worst poker playing I have ever seen. But thats ok I just hope people watch and came sit down and play at my table playing the same way. I'll be able to retire early.

I have found the show oddly compelling (despite Pollack's lame commentary and really broad scope of word "celebrity") but why is Game Number Four (Coolio, amongst others) ALWAYS on?

Bad rerun karma, I guess.

I play Texas Hold Em more often than I'd like to admit: a regular weekly game, a couple of monthly games, in Vegas, and God help me, online.

Never thought watching others play would hold my interest.

I can't look away.

Two hour final table showdown coming next. Should be good.

FYI
The final table airs 1/13/04.

Here's a list for the final table:
Willie Garson
Richard Schiff
Nicole Sullivan
Paul Rudd
David Cross

BTW: Does anyone know if The Travel Channel is going to air new episodes of WPT? (World Poker Tour) Thanks!

"WPT"
Posted by Bebo on 01-13-04 at 08:25 AM
I've seen ads touting a new season of WPT, but I don't know when it's scheduled to start. And Vince Van Patten is shopping another poker series, so WPT will not be going away any time soon.

Bad news for World Series of Poker fans, thought - federal marshals shut down Binion's Horseshoe Casino last week due to issues paying employee benefits. It could reopen once the financial issues are resolved, but if not, the tournament is in jeopardy.

Paul Rudd does indeed rock. Loved him in "Clueless". The final poker showdown is tonight. I'll be tuned in - to PAUL RUDD, that is! I also like Willie Garson..... FOR ME TO POOP ON!

Congrats, Nicole Sullivan! $100,000 for a charity that makes eunich cats.

And there was some surprisingly horrible poker playing in the big two-hour finale.

Yay! I'm glad Nicole won, but I was switching back and forth between this and 24 so I didn't see that much of the poker playing.

and then there was... IceCat!

"RE: And the winner is!!!"

I was switching between this and America's Top Model (cause a gal has to have her priorities) but still loved this finale, primarily due to Mr. Show guy.

I love cats, but compared to say, Lou Gherig's disease, the winning charity did seem a little frivolous.

"WPT"
Posted by Bebo on 01-29-04 at 04:24 PM
Anyone watch the WPT Celebrity Version last night?

Steve Harris, Jack Black, Aisha Tyler, Fred Savage, Mimi Rogers, and Drew Carey playing for charity. In addition to their chip stacks, each player had a "red card" that they could use once during the game, and it allowed them to consult with two pro players on how to play the hand.

I thought the quality of play was much higher than the one episode of Celebrity Poker that I got to see. Very interesting.

After they finish showing Game Four (with Coolio) about 29 more times.

Ginger, Coolio was on Bravo's Celebrity Poker. This WPT event was on the Travel Channel, and it was a one episode event. They'll probably rerun it once or twice, but they don't run their poker coverage into the ground like Bravo and ESPN do.

<<...but they don't run their poker coverage into the ground like Bravo and ESPN do.>>

The Travel Channel has replayed some games quite frequently. My roommate loves watching them-I must have seen the one with Sammy Farha, with his unlit cigarette, napping at the table at least a half-dozen times already in the past few months. And I've actually grown accustomed to Phil Helmuth's whining!

I believe the celebrity show was the kick-off to the new season, which starts next week. I'll be glad when that happens.

I agree with you, though, the WPT did a much better job than Bravo did.

Have to go with Bebo on this one, WPT was far superior play than the Bravo series. Was glad to see that Mimi was able to show she was a better player in WPT than in Bravo. Best moment had to be the Fred Savage freak out after catching a full house on the flop. Was anyone else humming "What would you do if I sang out of tune" whenever Savage was talking? The celebs version was okay but I prefer watching the pros. Can't wait to see how Howard "the professor" Lederer does this season. Talk about being able to look into ones soul. Wow!

Did you watch yesterday's WPT Invitational on NBC? I couldn't believe it when he went all-in with a 6-3.

I had to pick myself up from the floor on that one! I still don't understand it. Okay he was in third, last place at table at the time, he had just lost the chip lead but he wasn't so low on chips that it warranted an all right away. Really was sloppy play on his part. Come on 6-3 and not even suited! The only thing that I could come up with was an attempt to steal of the pot. Howard has never been much of a bluffer, maybe he thought he could scare them out with an All In. Tried relying on his reputation and it backfired. Oh well, that is poker. BTW Bebo, Go Fluffypillows

Anyone know for sure when the new season starts? I've seen the same episodes way to many times already.

What's funny is that Celebrity Poker has caused my fiance and I to start watching all the other poker shows on tv now and actually start trying to play Texas Hold Em ourselves. I even bought a box of chips just so we could play.

Zap2It is reporting some changes to the show for next season. I encourage you to read the article (at the following link:
http://tv.zap2it.com/tveditorial/tve_main/1,1002,271|86980|1|,00.html - clip & paste), but in case you're pressed for time, here are the highlights:

* Kevin Pollack is out as host, and Dave Foley is in.
* Phil Gordon returns.
* This season will last 12 episodes and cover two separate tournaments.
* Each episode will be 2 hours long, twice as long as most of last year's.

I look forward to this edition, bad play, stale jokes and all.

"WPT - Hollywood Home Game"
Posted by dreamerbeliever on 04-12-04 at 11:46 PM
Anyone else catch the latest celebrity poker game on the Travel Channel on Sunday night? At the table were Richard Karns (Home Improvement), Lolita Davidovich (Blaze), Fred Willard (Best in Show), Camryn Manheim (The Practice), Lou Diamond Phillips (Young Guns), and Norm MacDonald (SNL). A couple of my highlights ...

Lou Diamond getting pocket rockets on the first hand and losing. Was really pulling for Lou to win it all.

Norm MacDonald seems to be kind of a jerk in real life but he did look the part of a player with the shades and hat. Made the biggest blunder (I really love the blunders) in the game, even bigger than some of the Fred Willard mistakes. Went all in and forgot Lolita was still in the hand and lost to her.

Fred Willard, ahhh Fred Willard, where oh where to begin! Awful player and was lucky to get a third place finish. I seem to remember Fred doing hen-pecking jokes about his wife during his comedy routines. I now know why! It's true, that's why. Fred was doing so poorly in the beginning that they let his wife sit behind him and help. He was like a dog on a leash and she was cracking that whip. Very funny.

Lastly, our winner Richard Karn really did play quite well and took it very seriously. Wasn't to chatty but paid attention to the game. Made a couple of really nice laydowns.

I was very satisfied after watching this game on Travel Channel. What did you think?
