Geniuses? Hours go by and they have not found a five letter word?

I loved the comment about it being eerie in there with all the symbols and that the Geniuses look like they'd been beaten with sticks.

Hi Earl: They're still in King Tut's chamber. I didn't know Tut was one of the fore-fathers!
How about Truce for the cryptex?

When you have that much gold, EVERYBODY wants you as a fore-father

And when you have as much gold as the Geniuses, EVERYBODY wants you as a friend.

And we have bunching! Millions of dollars on the roll of the dice. How far from the chamber is the treasure? The furthest they have to run, the better for Air Force.

More importantly will Laird be seen, will we only get MotoroLaird or is he an Hologram?

Southies and Air Force are taking it moderately well. Kinda.

Dear Air Force Boys,

I live three miles north of Baltimore's inner harbor. I will be down there in fifteen minutes to console you. I will hold you all night long if that is what it takes.

Truly yours,

Lambchop had a waking vision that the secret word was FSKey.

Other than that, not too much, except that one of the Southie Boys thinks that "France" is a five-letter word.

Geniuses: still not even anywhere near the same zip code as attractive, despite the professional makeovers to appear on live television.

Please just take your frigging money and your overinflated sense of intellectual superiority and get off my television once and for all, asshats.

Amen brotha! Seriously, I don't care how tired you are, you're gonna sleep when theres 3 million bucks at stake? They were anything but geniuses. Eventually after 8 hours of thinking you're bound to come up with FSKEY. I would have rather seen the Hanlons win.

But it does not! $100,000 for the winner - let the game continue!!!

No, to the Smithsonian's castle building where it was first housed. More recently (before being removed for restoration) it has been displayed in the entry hall at the National Museum of American History across the mall from the castle.

Can you imagine if that little whiny blonde kid on the geniuses hadn't accidentally seen the Girard Museum right when they passed it by. Or if fatty with the nasty mutton chops could have kept his hands to himself and not touched the painting which lead to the secret room. We would have actually had a deserving champion in the end.

"RE: The Final Show."

Nah. Those other teams would still be there now trying to figure out the five-letter word.

Sorry, Canadains really don't know all about the USA as some think. How does the flag look since it has been restored?

"RE: The Final Show."
Posted by HistoryDetective on 08-21-06 at 09:46 PM
I believe that the process is still ongoing. I have not been inside the SI's NMAH in a couple of months, but the last time I was there the flag that draped the Pentagon following the 9/11 attack was being displayed in the space formerly occupied by the original Star Spangled Banner.

Is there a rule for these contestants against running? I'm not in shape but for $100 000 I'd be jogging.

I think Scott is about to pass out...I don't think he can jog.

"RE: The Final Show."

"Just wondering..."
Posted by SurvivorBlows on 08-21-06 at 09:52 PM

...does anyone remotely care about ten people we're never seen before competing to win $100,000?

...could Laird cut off a few more of the teams? Perhaps if the producers had trimmed the 20 minute Scrabble opening to only 15 minutes or shown one less flashback we'd actually get to hear from some of the actual REAL contestants.

"RE: Just wondering..."

NO!

Laird is talking over peeps in order to get a word in edge wise.

But it isn't the first blunder now is it? And I think there is one of the young professionals missing. Did I see right?

I like thier game play, but while they may have put a small crack in the sterotype, the models on the next TAR seem posed to seal up the crack again.

I didn't know Sally Struthers was on the Miss USA team!

With your help, we can put an end to beauty queen discrimination... we are strong, powerful women that can do anything a man can do (as long as you give us a head start and someone to help us do the heavy stuff -- why I do declare, our thin little bodies simply aren't as strong!)

"RE: Miss USA"
Posted by Penutbol on 08-22-06 at 01:20 AM
They may have started a new beauty queen stereotype by being the team who piggybacked on every other team around and hardly ever solved any clues on their own. At least they used their only talent to their advantage.

"RE: Miss USA"
Posted by Tahj on 08-22-06 at 11:38 AM
You have to admit though, "we were wondering when the Southie Boys were going to have to wear high heels and a bathing suit," was a great line.

And, don't you think they have a point? Why not try to at least level the playing field with some of those challenges? The digging, for example, had to be a lot harder for the women than the men.

What I like about TAR, lots of twin tasks - hard but fast or easy but long.

"Hi honey, I won $100,000 today!"
Posted by SurvivorBlows on 08-21-06 at 10:00 PM

In about an hour, Scott just won a cash prize twice the size of what Big Brother's runner-up is going to earn for spending 100 days locked in a house and on camera 24/7. CBS really is incredibly cheap.

I wouldn't stay in the BB house for half million. Too many idiots to put up with.

If you're going to give away $3 000 000 shouldn't it have been the first thing they told us way back before it started. It may have gotten more attention.

"RE: Bad Marketing"

I agree that they really did do a bad job of promoting the prize, prior to its season premiere, NBC was only describing the show's prize as a "treasure beyond their imagination"

FSKEY opened the cryptex that gave them a needle. They spun it on the design on the floor and it stopped at a Star. They then had to push the star on the wall and a secret door opened. What if, with all the stars as clues, someone had tried to push on it without opening the cryptex?

"RE: Also Bad Planning"
Posted by SurvivorBlows on 08-21-06 at 10:36 PM
If someone had just pressed on the star and opened the chamber without first opening their cryptex then I'd assume they'd have won the game gotten the gold. After all, the cryptex only contained a clue -- if you were able to proceed without the clue then all the more power to you -- the clues are simply there to help you complete the task, solving them was not the task.

I think there were actually a couple of early episodes in which teams didn't need to solve a clue to figure out their next task.

Exactly! I think the cryptex should've contained something that was essential in opening the chamber not just something to help.

Air Force was right there! Brooke said something about the star, how it was the only one in the room. They were so close. Air Force was really the only team who deserved the money. The geniuses got lucky so many times it was ridiculous. It worked out in the end because the AF team were all officers, making decent money, so they didn't need the treasure. The geniuses needed to go to med school anyways. The 600,000 they won after taxes might get them through school and maybe buy Francis a razor so he can shave those damn sideburns!

I was so hoping that Laird would announce the prize and it would be a very very small amount. I would have loved that. I didn't want Charles to win anything. He always took credit when they were right and blamed the others when they were wrong. What a jerk.
