"DWTS 11 Episode 1 ECST"

Please keep tonight's Red Carpet Premiere debacle here until Midnight EDT or until the west coast stops screaming that the dances burned...

Generally for performance threads I put up a warning that it's not generally known what the band is allegedly playing so please bear with me... For at least one week, that's not the case, since there are spoilers for this week's dance/music combos...

Far as I know, Brooke's still the interviewer, so hopefully no Samantha-bot in sight tonight... and that may be a good thing considering this season's field... Ai ya.

It should be interesting to see if knowing the titles actually helps in recognizing the music or not.

She's coming off of The Hills and trying to clean up her act...

Our Prince of Ballroom is still recovering from Kate last season...

They get the bombshell that they're gonna be the first ones out of the gate... and the pressure is on...

At least Tony seems to be getting along better with her than Kate...

I have never watched The Hills and know nothing about her. She did better than I expected. But I kept thinking it was Tony and Melissa doing the dance.

"RE: Audrina/Tony"
Posted by jbug on 09-21-10 at 10:35 AM
I've never watched that show either so I had no idea who she is.
But she did a fair dance for being first time and first one on the floor.

"RE: Audrina/Tony"
Posted by Tahj on 09-21-10 at 11:23 AM
She did do an OK job. I've watched her on The Hills and I've always thought of her as wooden and unanimated. I never could see the appeal.

Nah. It just makes her boring. Drop dead gorgeous? I just don't see it. I always thought Lauren was the most interesting person on the show.

Recently retired Super Bowl QB and Father of 7... and has the grace of a slug...

She definitely wants the mirror ball trophy, but her best bet might've been last season with Evan...

Surprisingly light on his feet, but nerves were on. Hope he hangs around for a couple of rounds.

"RE: Kurt/Anna"
Posted by Snidget on 09-20-10 at 08:19 PM
Uh Oh, I'm agreeing with Len. It was OK, but he wasn't nearly as good as the other two seemed to think it was. When I was watching him rather than Anna float around there was a lot of work that needed to be done.

"RE: Kurt/Anna"
Posted by vince3 on 09-20-10 at 08:21 PM
There was some improvement from practice... but then Len unleashes the Boo-birds....

Scores will be after the break...

We get some previews of later dancers, and apparently Jennifer's song gave her a Patrick Swayze/Dirty Dancing flashback... because she needed a good crying jag moment...

Bristol will be initially dressed as Sarah then tear off to the correct outfit? Hoo boy. Kyle will be maybe dressed up nerd-style? Yikes. Hoff has a couple of screaming moments...

"Kyle/Lacey"

He's from both Cory in the House and That's So Raven... both from the Disney Channel...

Lacey's back from a one-season hiatus, and is blonder than ever...

Performance won't be a problem... but technique? Notsomuch... Kyle seems to have a fixation with Lacey's cleavage, though...

Dancing the Cha Cha Cha to My First Kiss

He's in Urkel-ish school outfit, and she's in an Xtina number...

She did have some Ballet training experience, but after being called the fattest one... no more...

I was quite encouraged by her opening, but kept wondering about the misplaced wardrobe elements. She could really have made this her "Kelly Osborne" moment. Hope she sticks around to redeem herself.

"RE: Margaret/Louis"
Posted by Loree on 09-20-10 at 08:55 PM
I agreed with the judges. She started off and looked like she had some talent and was doing well. Then it all went into a comedy routine like Cloris Leachman. I wonder if they didn't think she had the talent so went for the comedy.

The judges displayed an amazing lack of humor over this. I thought it was funny. It was a risk they shouldn't have taken, though, and I hope she get to stay around longer. She can dance.

I think she is the closest to a "ordinary person" as we could get on this show, and for that reason I did not have great expectations for her and she lived up to those expectations. HOWEVER, she has a fabulous body, my heavens, girl. I am proud of you for putting yourself out there in this way! I feel bad about it, but she needs to go away, with the situation (lowercase on purpose).

I am not a Bristol/Sarah Palin fan and watched her with the expectation of seeing this year's Kate Goselin. I was vety surprised that not only wasn't I laughing at her, but I was impressed by what I saw. Although I think the judges are grading her on anon-entertainer curve, I also think she did very well

"RE: Bristol/Mark"

Ahem!? *Looks around* Knock, knock. Did NO ONE hear the loaded reference from Bruno that "This is virgin territory for you..."? No one was about to go near it on the show and Bruno really had some guts saying it. Did everyone just gloss over it?

As for the dance, far from the worst of the night, but she's definitely not a performer. I hope she goes before she does something truly embarrassing.

"Florence/Corky"

Corky is back again with another 'mature' woman... another one with a wild side, like Cloris...

and yes, Florence can swear...

I almost cracked up when Carrie Ann mentioned Florence's "bright eyes" ! LOL

I knew a little ole lady in Fl who loved to line dance - we called her "bright eyes" for the exact same reason.

"Michael/Chelsie"
Posted by vince3 on 09-20-10 at 09:24 PM
He's best known for both his raspy singing voice and his mullet... the mullet's gone, but he's more a singer than dancer...

Chelsie chooses to let her dancing do her talking for her...

Michael slouches so much that Chelsie whips out the posture bar for him...

Karina's back and better than ever...

He's the defending and 2-time DWTS champion

Immediately he gets a 'Time of Your Life' reference... their song is from the Dirty Dancing Soundtrack, and Derek's choreography is straight out of the movie... which takes her back to her time on set with the late Patrick Swayze who died from cancer last year...

I have no emotional attachment to Baby either, and yeah, she has some dance experience, but so what? Did you think for one second that they would give their obnoxious little fave Derek a partner that sucks? Never gonna happen in a million years. I think at 50 Jennifer is still one hell of a gorgeous woman, and if it weren't for that little weasel she's dancing with and the extreme beauty of one of her female opponents and the sexy body of another female celeb, she'd be my runaway favorite.

He was probably humble because he sucked and he knew it.

Yes, much better opening night than I anticipated. My faves were Jennifer (can't believe she's 50!), Brandi and Rick Fox. That comedian guy and Bristol were also nice surprises. Michael Bolton unfortunately was a let-down.

I'm guessing Margaret Cho goes???

It might depend on who gets the VFTW voting bloc... That cape maneuver just might've been an audition for them...

ETA: Just as I suspected... She's their current pick, with Hoff, Situation, and Bristol as backups if/when she goes...

Here are my comments on the 12 dancers:

Audrina was good considering that she was the first person out of the block. But if she doesn't have the Vote for the Worst bloc on her side, she might be in trouble.

Kurt was okay, but he could've done better. Still, he's got the football fans on his side so he'll be okay for now.

Kyle was a pleasant surprise! I didn't like the song but I liked his performance!

I also liked Rick's performance, but I'm worried about him when he has to do Latin dances. Tall people don't always do well with them.

I understand why Margaret wanted to go the comedic route, but it's a risk that shouldn't have been taken. She's in trouble.

I like Brandy, so I was pleased that she did well. She'll be around for awhile.

Bristol was pretty good but she was so nervous! She needs to get more comfortable or she'll be gone pretty soon.

Florence is better than Cloris Leachman, that's for sure! But she's not good enough to stay too long.

Michael did an okay job but he should've led instead of letting Chelsie lead. I hope he does better with the jive.

The Situation wasn't the worst but he certainly wasn't the best either! In some trouble.

I felt for Jennifer when I saw the rehearsal footage. She was the best of the night.

David was probably the second-worst of the night. He's also in real trouble.
