OK, it seemed to start a little slowly (come on guys, you already had 10 zillion people watch last week, did we need the same 5 minutes opening recap as last week?) and then I was a little disappointed with the first date or two (it seemed like all the good parts were already in last week's preview) but I thought after that it really picked up again. These producers CLEARLY don't have a problem mocking the girls (Dayana, Heidi), and I can't help but feel they are serving up meatballs for the summary writers (I have to imagine this week's summary writer is going to have a blast with the "material")

And I like Alison... liked her last week, decent choice. Sarah kinda surprised me, she looked like a different woman this week. Amanda, Brandy, and Mandy also seemed to make a positive impression tonight.

Any guesses as to the butler's three? My guess was that it did not include Mojo, but I'd be surprised if Melissa and Zora were not among them.

edited to fix Melissa's name

first date or two (it seemed like all the good parts were already in last week's preview) but I thought after that it really picked up again.

I think that it was a little hard to guage these women working outside when they were clearly dressed to go out. Can you imagine if you were on the Bachelorette and you are in some nice slacks and a dress shirt and she says oh, btw, you are shoveling coal and hay. Kinda hard to work and not worrying about messing up your clothes. No one looked dressed to work. A little more of a clue would have helped.

These producers CLEARLY don't have a problem mocking the girls (Dayana, Heidi),

That is what I like about this show. They don't sugar coat it. There is no way to make this type of a show classy.

I also liked Allison. She looked like a girl I went to college with who was pretty hot as well. I think he made good choices. I am glad he chose Zora. I still think Melissa (smile girl) is going to win it. Her confessionals seem to be a little reflective, like a post show interview type situation.

Mojo I didn't like. I am glad that he saw through Heidi. I would have been upset if she would have moved on.

Also, what was up with the girl host? I forgot her name. I like the butler better. Plus he has done the most interaction w/the girls. She serves no role. I hope they take her out.

edited to add: I am also impressed w/Evan. He seems to have really gotten into this and is doing good job w/this. He seems like a genuine sincere guy who knows what he wants and what he is looking for. I am glad that he is looking for looks and personality.

It is funny that next week Mandy says something to the affect of him being able to keep good secrets. that is sooo funny!

Psst... that's not Mandy, that's Melissa.

What IS up with the girl host? I liked Alex Mclaud when she hosted Trading Spaces. After she left I thought she had moved on to bigger and better things; apparently not. She seemed so artificial and uncomfortable in front of the camera. And she has NO facetime. Why not let the butler do her little spiel. Her part in this is so unneccessary.

I'm going to have to agree with other posts around the boards. She was most likely a DUD on the show and they are editing her out. But her contract, or whatever, probably required her to have some face time so they are just showing us two seconds of her each episode. And what they do show is very choppy and I agree with you she seems very Uncomfortable.

Its just somewhat amusing that after the first episode where she introduced herself as the HOST, we now have the butler doing the HOSTING.

She must have, STUNK ON ICE!

did we need the same 5 minutes opening recap as last week?

I know. I checked the clock and the intro did take up way too much time.

These producers CLEARLY don't have a problem mocking the girls (Dayana, Heidi)

Heidi cracked me up! The only French word she should have known but didn't was mairde(sp?). Her high school French teacher is either dying of embarrassment or laughing with the rest of us.

Any guesses as to the butler's three?

Melissa, Zora, Alison

And on another note, Austin Powers 2 was on the other night and got me to thinking (not the intended purpose of said movie). Which of the remaining 5 is the fembot?

The only French word she should have known but didn't was mairde(sp?).

I think the word you're looking for is "merde", and I won't bother translating (it's a "wirty dird"). I also thought that the camerapersons gave her the lines to say on camera, since once she used perfect idiomatic French, and the next she couldn't hardly get two words out...

(come on guys, you already had 10 zillion people watch last week, did we need the same 5 minutes opening recap as last week?)

I missed the opener , so I was glad that they had a recap. I can see where it would annoy those who saw Ep. 1, however.

and then I was a little disappointed with the first date or two (it seemed like all the good parts were already in last week's preview)

I never saw the preview, so it was all "fresh and new" for me.

These producers CLEARLY don't have a problem mocking the girls (Dayana, Heidi), and I can't help but feel they are serving up meatballs for the summary writers (I have to imagine this week's summary writer is going to have a blast with the "material")

I agree, and furthermore, here is my new idea: I got the impression that the girls really do know what is going on here, that they are "in" on the whole little secret. I mean... they HAVE to know SOMETHING. Their dates are picking grapes in the mud, shoveling hay, shoveling coal?!?! Evan is WAY overplaying his "poor man" role, and the whole thing appeared sooo set-up and contrived... At some point in time, these ladies are going to have to figure out that something is going on here. I'm suspecting they believe there is a money play at the end, but I'm starting to wonder just how blind they are to the truth...

Any guesses as to the butler's three?

I suspect Melissa, Zora and Dana. Everyone thought Dana, and everyone was surprised she wasn't picked.

Dawg,

>I suspect Melissa, Zora and Dana.
> Everyone thought Dana, and
>everyone was surprised she wasn't
>picked.

It can't be Dana, because the butler said something like "I had picked three, and Evan picked all three of them."

did we need the same 5 minutes opening recap as last week?)

EXACTLY. They didn't need to "bring folks up to speed", especially since they are doing an encore of the first two eps on Thursday. If there were new people tuning in, they could just plan to watch then if they thought they had missed stuff. But it's not like people don't understand the concept of the show yet. Even if you didn't watch the first episode, it would have been hard to miss, given all of the publicity.

These producers CLEARLY don't have a problem mocking the girls

What I like so much about this show, as compared to other reality shows, is that it doesn't take itself too seriously. The producers aren't acting like they want to make ground-breaking television. They know exactly what their product is and have embraced the fact that it would most likely be mocked.

(I have to imagine this week's summary writer is going to have a blast with the "material")

Oh, I'm sure my darling Bucky Katt is going to do it justice. I was giggling throughout, thinking of how many good setups were shown.

And I like Alison...

I'll have to admit, I didn't notice her all that much last week, but I was glad he kept her around.

My big problem? I have finally found a reality show contestant that I don't want to bash. I really like Zora...but I don't want her to win because I like her so much. Maybe I bonded with her last episode over blue dresses or something. Reason number two I like this show - the producers try to let you see the good sides of the girls too.

Any guesses as to the butler's three?

Definitely Melissa and Zora, but I can't figure out the third. I agree with you that it's probably not Mojo.

And we got sapphires, while we still had the opening shot of Melissa getting an emerald around her neck, so she's sticking around for at least one more ep after this one.

Me? The Mole? Ya think? Well, I AM Evil.

...and we saw that scene (that I never actually managed to track down a vidcap of) with Melissa getting a necklace while wearing the white lacy top and holding her hair up, so we don't have to worry about that having any remaining spoiler value as well.

I saw the show for the first time last night. What a hoot! I'm still don't know all the names but I do like Zora. She seems low key. I LMAO at some of the girls doing their chores. Can you show a little enthusiasm at least? They looked so miserable (I loved it). Also enjoyed seeing Heidi's miserable face when she didn't get a necklace. Then for her to say "whatever" out loud BWAHAHAHAHAHA! Greedy little miserable gold digger!

I agree that Melissa and Zora are in the butlers 3, as for the third? I am going to say Heidi, NOT! I'm not sure on the third, mainly because I cannot remember the name of the girl I am thinking about. OH well. Maybe I will be reincarnated as someone with a short term memory.

And Heidi leaving was classic. I think she hid her own luggage so she could hang around. I seriously thought the butler was going to throw her out of the place. Something like, sorry we'll mail you your things, NOW GET OUT!

If they had kept the girls longer, and not cut so many so quickly we could have seen more claws come out, but then I digress. It is apparently not what the producers want to focus on anyway, but it could have been entertaining.

And what was with that girls heels. The AA princess girl. I too felt bad for the horse she rode in on (hey that line has possibilities). But at least she did not wuss out like Heidi. Oh I can't ride the horse, he is not obeying me!!!! I'm sure "joe" was like and I won't be obeying you either, see you later.

You might be right, although I thought that they knew exactly where her luggage was, and brought out other luggage just to fvck with her on camera.

And what was with that girls heels. The AA princess girl.

That was one of the humorous moments of the show. Nearly all those girls looked like "WTF?!?!" having to ride horses. At least Heidi had the sense to actually just stop and not do it. And clearly all these girls expected to go on dates, not farm-and-coal workdays more befitting to Angola State Prison than a chateau in La France.

...and what's wrong with babes wearing high heels while riding... uh, nevermind...

Oh.My.Heck! I couldn't find my password yesterday, so I didn't post my picks, but I actually had Alison (I know, I know, but really ... check what I wrote in message #23 in the "who will win?" thread last week!).

And I picked Sarah (for real ... see message #5 in the "Final 5 Vidcap Spoiler" Thread). The other three (MoJo, Smiley Melissa, and Zora) were gimmes with the individual date vidcaps. Ah, but today, who will believe me? I'm thinking of getting a tatoo with my password.

>Any guesses as to the butler's

My guess is Zora (she really DOES seem to be nice), Sarah, and Alison (I think he was amused by her "this is horsesh*t" comment during the dress melee, and he possibly arranged for her to draw that particular task on last night's date). MoJo and SmileyMel have shown themselves to be digging in front of the butler.

With Webby's hot-tub vidcaps, though, I think Alison's the next to go.

p.s. It only took me three years of lurking to reach double-digit posts. Bye-bye, American Cancer Society!

Why don't you change your password into something you can remember? Seems to me that would be a bit less intrusive than a tatoo would be!

"Evan's Favourites"
Posted by frisky on 01-14-03 at 01:58 PM
Based on Evan's commentary when he made his five picks:

Alison - not a favourite
His very lengthy, odd commentary about her being red hot with her red hair and she's got the red pants "she's red hot, she's on fire" sounded complimentary in a very weird way, but then he did comment that she may be motivated by the money. He said "I thought I'd give her a shot." In other words, move her further up the food chain before I knock her off.

Sarah - not a favourite
Again, Evan gave her the old "I'll give her a shot" after saying that although she's attractive, he hasn't really gotten to know her well.

Zora - on the fence
Evan said he hasn't been able to find anything about Zora he doesn't like. Sounded almost as if he was desperately looking for something. He sounded as non-committal with her as he sounded with Alison and Sarah.

I think the above three were Evans "fillers" for the top 5 spots. He liked them but didn't feel a connection, and picked them out of the others so that the chicks he liked could go home with at least one more gem while he decides between:

Mojo - a favourite
Evan is obviously very physically attracted to her. She seems obnoxious to me, but he seems dull to me so maybe they'd make a good match. He was far more enthusiastic in his commentary about her. There is a definite attraction on his part.

Melissa - a favourite
He said the magic word "chemistry." Again, very enthusiastic, very complimentary. (eeewww, I'm starting to sound like him...)

A couple other observations:
Alex just sucks big time. My mouth was agape from the time she swished into the room and barked out that 27 second speech straight off the cue cards like a frickin' ice princess. Lose her.

The recrap was equally painful. Well, maybe a little less painful than Alex.

Heidi's "RANDOM.RANDOM.RANDOM." rant. WTF???

"RE: Joe Millionaire Episode 2"

I think our "missing" host Alex McLeod is lying on the cutting room floor, dieing the death of a thousand cuts. Which she deserves.

I think FOX signed her on with good intentions, and is probably obligated by their contract to list her as host in the credits, but they are obviously trying to not show her. We may see her only where they just can't cut her out in post-production.

In her only appearance last night, one which would have been almost impossible to delete entirely from the show, she appeared bored, boring & over-dressed. I think they are adding in & emphasizing the butler post-production. He's funny! And a natural with the camera.

There were several times last night where the girls were talking to someone off-camera, and we heard the butler's voice but it had a different, studiolike quality, as though added later. Also, when he was talking to the girls just after he told them that 7 would be eliminated that night, it seemed to me as though the girls were reacting to him and to another person not shown (Alex?). This is one of the places where the butler's voice had a different quality to it when he was not visible. I am speculating that his voice was added later, perhaps saying lines where Alex's voice was deleted.

I think butler's 3 picks were Zora, Melissa and Allison. And the butler's a hoot! The show would not be nearly as good without him.

Totally, totally agree with you, Swami. I think you've hit the proverbial nail on the head.

I was wondering after the show just why this Alex-McLeod-Hostess-Person was even in the show at all. Totally unnecessary with the butler seeming to run the show. Your observations make a lot of sense, and explain a lot of the rather strange editing at times.

After last night's show, I am definately a Zora fan. She is great and has a great attitude. However, I think Evan likes MelSmile the best.

Did Heidi say "Whatever" to Evan or to someone that might have made a comment to her? I didn't get the feeling that is was for Evan, although it might have been.

At first, I was disappointed that Dana wasn't picked. She seemed to be making the best of it during the "group date" in the vinyard - looked cute peeking beneath the brim of the rainjacket too! I didn't understand Evan's comment about her personality and how it would conflict with his - as if he has one! But then I thought - the good ones should go first - the best situation would have been for Heidi to be the "winner", only to be told Evan was dirt poor! So Dana, wherever you are, I hope you do find a real Prince Charming - and not Evan the frog!
