Anyone know when the first loser returns? ...and how often might it happen?

Once booted, they are sequestered somewhere in Aruba? (I think, but I could be wrong) -- anyway they are sequestered on some island they appropriately call "loser island" until the winner is revealed. At least, that is my understanding of this crappy show.

Sometimes I feel like a nut, sometimes I don't.

I have no idea about the answer but since this thread is sitting on top with no replies so far--while we are waiting for the clarification on loser return policy (do you need the original receipt and do you have to wait in that special line from hell titled "Customer Service?)...

I will just vent that I missed the damn show because Fux scheduled baseball both in the TV guide and the on-line guide, and listed LC from 1-2 am. So I was stupid enough to believe them and didn't set my VCR.

Got home from work just in time to see previews of Pop-eye yelling, so something to look forward to tomorrow...

And Webby, he he but you have started 7 out of the 11 threads at the top of the page....

On the Survivor spoilers, we had a really vigilant Clown who flamed people who started new threads all the time. I wonder what happened to him...

Just asking...

...the old "It's my party and I'll do what I want to" tune is popping into my head

What -- they're all legit topics of discussion, I'm just trying to get some answers and/or spark some discussion

Always did like that song...

Ja, I knew what you were doing, but I still thought it was funny.
Must do something with my disgruntlement at not knowing any of the answers because I missed the show after waiting for it for what, months?

Damn, this is embrassassing... the answer (at least a partial answer) was on LCS' own "Rules" page:

http://www.lovecruisesinks.com/lovecruisesinks/lcsgamerules.shtml

Couple Competitions
Beginning in episode two, couples will compete for a chance at voting power. Winners of the competitions - which range from a dance contest to mud wrestling -- are each given an envelope. One envelope contains the coveted Switch Card.

Switch Card
The switch card affords a player the power to change the vote of the group during the Elimination Ceremony. For example, you can prevent yourself from being voted out, or "switch" the gender vote to save a buddy or partner. Or, the holder of the switch card can simply go with the majority and not change anything.

=====================

...but it doesn't make it clear if you can carry the cards over if you don't use them. My guess is no.

You realize this means starting in Ep #2 you have to get not only all the opposite sex to like you -- but now also your own sex -- otherwise one use of the switch card and you're on Loser Island with Kenny G.

I agree.. the rules as stated, are not very clear. But, in the previews of things to come, I saw Michael on a cell phone, apparently talking to someone on Loser Island, asking them if they want to come back. I have a feeling, that Michael is going to work both sides, and stir everybody up. Sneaky, sneaky, sneaky.

Webby? The whole thing on the Switch Card explains how it can goof up the intended vote (or not) but NOT how it might work in regards to people already booted. . . Does anyone have a clue about this? and how might it have to work, in order to keep on schedule with the number of players left--they can't just breathe new life into someone and upset the balance of numbers. . . Perhaps it entitles them to send a third person packing so that a previous loozer could come back?

Arrgh! You know what? They probably make this crap up as they go along. . .

"Different thing entirely"

The "switch card" is different from the "loser return". The switch card is the equivalent of a one-episode veto regarding the vote that episode; it doesn't let you bring someone back.

I believe I read that there were two opportunities for someone to return from Loser Island. I'll look for the source.

Found it! Here is the quote from the Women's Own magazine article that explains the difference. My point is this: there is NO WAY that tonight's episode will give ANYONE a chance to bring someone back. They'll wait until probably E4 before the first such chance (when there are three losers of each gender on the island):
***************************
There is a way to weather the storm, however, and save yourself or someone else from being eliminated. In each episode, the couples compete against each other in a variety of tests. These competitions take place at different locations on various islands. “There’s a huge range of events; some are adult party games and some we created specifically to bring out different aspects of their personalities,” says co-executive producer Bruce Toms. “You can’t be a one-dimensional person and walk away with the prize; you need to be able to bring a lot to the party to win this game.”

The competitions are important because if they win, one of the teammates is awarded a Switch Card. “That Switch Card is power,” says Murray. “That allows them the power to stay on the boat even if someone or group as a whole decides they’re leaving. They can turn things around.” But, that sort of power can bring with it all kinds of ramifications.

“They stand up and announce who’s getting voted off,” says Gunn, “so you have very dramatic moments where the person who is getting voted off has a chance to make their case to whoever holds the power to prevent elimination.”

The voted castaways must leave the ship immediately. “We put them in one of the launches and give them their luggage and we say goodbye,” remarks Gunn. “We take them to the nearest island where they hop on a plane and go off to ‘Loser Island’ somewhere in Aruba.”

Once a loser, not always a loser......at least not for this game.

“Just because you’ve been selected to leave the ship doesn’t mean you’re out of the game,” reveals Murray. “There are two places where someone can literally reach back and pull you back to the ship and send someone in your place,” he says. “Because what we really want for our final competition are two couples who sincerely want to be together.” The shipmate’s antics on Loser Island are documented as well. As far as bringing someone back from Loser Island, the shipmates don’t know how that works until it works. “We throw a lot of surprises at them,” says Gunn.

My impression of the switch card and the pull-back power is that, strategically (politically), anyone who has it may as well use it. There may be some times when the cardholder may wish to go along with the decision of the group, but strategically it seems to me more often than not you would be better off using it, and the same goes for the pull-back power. Whether these players will see it that way, of course, is a whole different question.

"If the race of man should be left naked upon a desert island, we should become extinct in six weeks. A few individuals might linger, but in a year would become worse than monkeys." (Samuel Butler, "Erewhon")

Bless your heart, Aya. . . now my head hurts much, MUCH less. I just couldn't make the two things work together!

So. . . the whole phone call promo is probably just wrangling for future episodes--and apparently alienating the other players? Somehow, I can't help but feel the "malicious" remark is connected (perhaps the phone call follows because Micow realizes he's going to have to finagle something tricky to have a shot at all?)
