Please keep all discussion of tonight's special CBS investigation into ultra-desperate attempts at ratings boosts on this thread until the West Coast gets to learn about the super-secret redivision of the existing four tribes. 'All right: everyone who's Jewish, raise your hand. Not so fast, Jonathan.' Oh, and if you could keep sigpics down to a minimum to lower loading times for dial-up peeps, that would be helpful too. It's a prejudical thing. Supposedly I hate sigpics. Really, I have no idea how that started. It's not like I accidentally released them from a box or anything.

Yes.

And that's just waiting for Parvati's first confessional.

How long was that darn recap? I mean surely something happened over the next three days worth filming?

Recap, Jiffy still using the shortened tribe names. At least he actually paid attention to the tribe names.

Will there be a truncated opening credits this time.

Wait for it....

Steph sides with twin wimmens, 19 left.

Hey, two full-length main titles in a row. Yay. Last seasons gyp intros were a dud!

I don't like the feel of the theme this year, though. It's too stretched out when it's being made to fit twenty contestants. I'm not liking getting only a single camp/work image of each person, either.

'Can't anyone here play this game?'

I know Jeff pretty much said they cast for overall series naivitae, but -- geez... No ideas about fire, shelter, social interaction... All credit to the chicken-catchers for executing some good ideas, but we have two clueless tribes in this game, and a lot of clueless people within the more active ones. This is getting very ugly very fast, and I don't know if the course is going to reverse itself any time soon.

So what is all that fat Billy has if not stored energy?

I don't have any energy.....Sigh.

And now Ozzy is talking about pulling a Burton -- look! Cuties! Looks like I'll have something to say in the Be The thread, which is the most action I've been able to imagine all episode, let alone witness. Looks like we're looking at another single-challenge cycle. Also at an idiot. Throwing a challenge on purpose doesn't work.

Cao demonstrating his sense of humor, the others demonstrating a mix of reticence and paranoia...

Was there a recrap of last week's premiere posted anywhere, and I missed it, or was it just so boring that no one bothered?

-- in series history.

Ozzy, you idiot. You never cut down on your numbers. Billy is more than a work death zone and social black hole. He's a vote! You threw a challenge to get rid of someone who's about as hard to manipulate as Silly Putty!

Upon further review of the tape, we have determined that one tribe was utterly tanking it. Ye gawds. Does anyone think Billy really caught on at the end as to what they'd been doing all along, or just figured he was next anyway and gee, that sudden loss of energy was from opening all those coconuts for him?

i cannot believe how stupid that was.

even a person who's never watched an entire episode of survivor has to know that, in the end, the tribes *merge*.

IIIIIIIIIIIiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiIIIIdiot!

worse: cristina for not following her instincts. i hope it bites her HARD.

"RE: totally true"
Posted by Brownroach on 09-22-06 at 11:04 AM
What could Cristina have done, though? She tried to tell them throwing the challenge was a bad idea, but Nazi Ozzy wouldn't hear of it. Once they went through with it, there was no reason for her not to vote for Billy.

I admit, I'm curious to see what you come up with...

Right now, I just have the disturbing feeling that Michelle could eat this group alive. Don't even ask about the ones who made the merge. Gardener would have them doing pull-ups in formation by Day Two.

Take the box and put a fake idol of his own creation in it. Then he can tell everyone that he has it and even trade it away to someone he wants to eliminate by fooling them into thinking they are safe.

It would be an even better trick than Jonny Playfair's grandma trick.

That is an amazing idea. I just wish someone in this contestant pool was smart enough to think of it.

I bet it's against the rules, though.

Posted by cqvenus on 09-21-06 at 09:06 PM

this *is* smart. but yeah probably against the rules...

but i wonder... he should get rid of the box at LEAST, right? this way ppl keep looking for but not finding it. cuz, i mean, the second they find an empty box, they're gonna know thru some not-so-difficult POE who could have it, right?

Great idea! Find a suitable piece of driftwood, machete-carve it into something remotely idolish, bury it somewhere where the next exile is bound to find it, sit back and have a larf!

Wouldn't it be a hoot to have the person who found the fake idol to stand up at TC and say "Ha HAAA sucka! I've got the idol so I'm safe." Uhh, not quite.

Normally, I'd be thinking 'nauseous', but maybe it really was love at first sight. Stranger things have happened.

No, really. Lots stranger.

Yes, I can name three. Just not right now.

That quote and how it went down at TC has got to be the most sad i've felt for a Survivor ever. I went back and re-watched the "love at first site" at the challenge...and i felt even sadder. Poor Billy.

I was actually starting to feel a little sorry for Billy, (although I didn't really like him) until he opened his mouth and said that. Then I realized it's a good thing to get him out of there before his delusion continues to the point that in a week more they would be secretly married and she carrying his child.

I'm so disappointed in the promo people. They told us that Aitu wanted to throw it to boot Billy and that's what happened.

That's pathetic, people. The Puka misdirection does not make up for giving out the boot in the "next time" blurb aired at the end of show. Did the competent people all quit, what gives?

How are we supposed to spoil if we are dueling with people who never read any Agatha Christie? People who think "next time on Survivor" is where you explain what happens next time, literally.

Soon we'll be having recaps of last week in the first ten minutes and the last ten minutes will tell us next week's show. And Probst will start saying, "Up next ... but first!"

ETA that AyaK is slotted to do the first summary, mysticwolf, and whatever is keeping him I'm sure the wait will be worth it!

EPMB finally figured out how to deal with the spoiling community - spoil his own show before we do it...

Note to self: think really hard when BR, TDT, and michel agree and come up with somebody different.

Note to self: think really hard when BR, TDT, and michel agree and come up with somebody different.

Well, I certainly cannot argue that statement, forehead! Clearly the biggest reason for not going with a Billy boot was that it was the direction in the web promos. How many times has the promo directed you straight toward the boot??? Editing considered or NOT???

AND, how does this apply to this weeks promos??? Will Cowboy be our boy? He's certainly getting the negative edit, whereas we see Parvati spinning her web which is spun in a positive light, for her...

WAY TO GO michel, BR, and Flygirl!

Thanks FP and Forehead. *I'll Share High-Fives with BR and Flygirl!* Some of the main complaints of Survivor have been: Not enough minorities and no story given to the first boots. With the first problem addressed, it may be that Burnett is tackling the second. Editing-wise Cao Boi's story seems over but a tribe shuffle can change that.

Thanks, guys.

See, I thought there really was a modicum of misdirection in that they wouldn't *throw the challenge* to boot Billy, but they would lose anyway and Billy would get booted.

But no - what it said would happen is exactly what happened. Very weird, I agree.

ETA: Does anyone think they gave the whole game away last night by showing Yul find the idol? I predict Terry, round 2 -- he will get to the final 3 without having to use it, and that's why we had to find out now that he has it. If he needed to use it later I bet they wouldn't have shown that, so it would be a surprise when it came up.

The credit for my vote goes to BR. I loved the irony of BR's theory! But I never DREAMED they actually WOULD throw the challenge. TOTALLY clueless!!

Posted by SurvivorBlows on 09-22-06 at 00:23 AM
I agree, I never thought I'd see the day where the "Next week..." promo gives the entire next episode away. Then again, Burnett used to all but give away the first couple of bootees in the pre-premiere teaser video clips, so maybe he's just coming full circle

Yes, AK is handling the premiere summary. He had quite a bit of it done by last Friday but some things have obviously come up that have kept him from being able to finish it. I'm still looking forward to seeing it!

I really HATE the idea of throwing a competition in week two. That's usually a card played wwaaaayyy on down the road.
It doesn't seem to make the Latinos look all that fabulous.

Somehow, the hamsters think that by voting off strong people, they will win. Sometimes that works, often; NOT.

DUMB, DUMB..... We'll see who figures it out first!

I agree, throwing a challenge is never a very smart strategy. Throwing a challenge in week 2 seems particularly dumb.
