Welcome back all to Season 5!

Finally season premiere time! Just a few more hours!
It's 2 two hour episodes tonight after the recap "Destiny Calls".

Title spec? It seems like the first title "Because You Left" refers to the O6 but you never know with Lost, it could be because someone's daddy left home! Same thing with "The Lie" are we talking about the big O6 lie or is it something else? I have no idea because I am pretty much spoiler free other than the coming attractions they put on tv. I don't even know who these episodes center around.

Please remember to keep all spoilers for this episode in hidden text.

I did! Chocolate chip cookie dough under a blanket on the couch! I was shivering afterwards.

I like the idea of spiked cocoa, godiva chocolate liqor is good too as is baileys! Oh and spiked tea! with blackberry brandy!

I'm on the wagon too. Saw the headline in the paper this morning....straight into the recycling bin! No spoilers for this puppy.

I am so excited I can hardly wait. Like seriously....I am like an 8 year old on Christmas morning.

I'm looking forward to the premiere. Of course, it just means howevermany weeks of confusion, anticipation, more questions, and worrying about all of the characters I like. I worry about the ones I don't like, too. I worry about everyone.

I don't do spoilers for Lost, it's just too much fun not to know. It's one of the shows I truly enjoy on it's own merits.

Mrs. Hawking or Hawkins. Forget which. She is who Desmond bought the ring from and also she was an Other who spoke with Jack I think when they were on that little island.

Interesting, she seems to be a bit more important in it all. Ben seemed a bit nervous around her.
Wonder who Meat Lady was.

Did the guy behind the camera in the beginning look like Sawyer?

She's not the same one Jack spoke with. Jack spoke with the Judge, I can't seem to remember her name, but it was a different actress.

Ms. Hawking was also in a pic at the monestary where Desmond was.

I do remember there was confusion at the time too(I think one actress was the chick from Mommie Dearest) but I thought she was seen talking to them as well.

Great episodes!

I really liked the wink at Survivor. When they returned to the beach and had to start all over, the dynamics and events were typical of Survivor. Bernard trying to make fire with a piece of wood and a string just like Keith in the Outback and being just as unsuccessful. Then, whatsisname going out to find food and brining back a pig. Neil complaining about the whole thing. I was telling myself that he'd be the first one booted off the island and just then... well Fire was Death!!!

Daniel appears to be able to move in time on his own. It was quite interesting to see him when Dharma was building the Orchid. He seemed to know what was behind the rocks. And, could his mother be also Miss Hawking who was with Ben at the end?

Where or rather when did the British commando get to the island and who send them?

So glad that Cane was cancelled so that we get to see more of yummy, yummy Richard Alpert.

Is Sun a bad guy now? Didn't she seem a little evil with Kate?

Ben was definitely nervous around Mrs. Hawkins. SHE is the big boss I think. Do you think she has anything to do\could be Farraday's mother from Oxford? Is Desmond going to get a big surprise when he goes to see her?

I figured Mrs Hawkins was Farraday's mother, didn't even question it until reading ya'lls replies.

Sun's pissed and wants to kill Ben. I don't think she's going to be a baddie but might screw something's up in order to get Ben. I still don't think Jin's dead.

I would have really laughed if Anna Lucia's parting words to Hurley had been "Don't drink and drive."

Hurley - running out and giving himself up to the police to get away from Ben! OMG. Poor Hurley.

I don't think Jin is dead, either. IIRC, on the pre-episode episode, I thought the voice over said something like "Sun still thinks Jin is dead". I don't know if I heard it right though.
I also thought that when Locke was told he would have to die, that somehow the time continuim thing was in effect. That maybe at some point he told one of the 6 "if I show up dead, you have to return to the island". And so he dies, everyone goes back to the island and then the time travel plays some role in Locke being saved.

But after the first jump the ship was not there burning as Sawyer pointed out but it was also not there with the helicopter and the Oceanic 6.....but Dannel's zodiac boat is there for all the jumps.

So I think we have another question.

Oh, you're right.

I wonder if the farther you are away from the wheel the less effect it has. So Locke may have skipped further than the group, the group skipped further than the freighter. And I guess it doesn't effect things in the air?

I think Locke was just in a different place....at the end he showed up and killed one of the army guys.....

or do you mean that you have to be in the same place to skip together and be on the same time?

The helo was heading to the island when it left the freighter after it blew up but they were able to go home in the same time that they were in as they were rescued by Penny's boat...so they were closer then the freighter....just another question I believe.

michel, that's so funny that you saw a Survivor connection. When Daniel started flipping through his notes, I thought, 'oh that's like michel with his Survivor notes,' lol!

I think Daniel's going to be a key figure this season. It was a surprise to see him underground when they were building the Orchid, just checking things out!

I thought the "British commando" guy and friends were Dharma because of their shirts with their names on them, although his accent threw me off. But who were the people with the flaming arrows, the hostiles? Dharma has so many guns, the flaming arrows seem so primitive (but effective).

I looked at the British commando's uniform and they didn't have the Dharma logo.

There were so many nods to so many things in the premiere! I missed the Star Wars and Star Trek ones, and I'm sure there were ones we didn't notice.

Survivor was definitely one of them, especially the fire building scene - although I think the boar was partly in reference to Sawyer not wanting to kill one again and Miles being a ghostbuster. That's another thing we haven't really seen much of, but Miles would be able to see/communicate with Claire, Christian, Jacob or any other dead people that are roaming around the island. I think the way they are integrating Daniel, Charlotte, and Miles into the group is wonderful.

Another thought on the shirt - it could be very early Dharma before they built all the stations and created a logo. They were still trying to win the island from the hostiles (who threw the flaming arrows) and hadn't set up shop yet.

I am my own worst freaking enemy. I kinda looked at Spoilerfix but only on the two eps we have seen....not ahead. I just can't help myself.

Not sure if the hidden text changes the way I feel about this, but I thought I would share.
Cunningham: Mid-20s to Early 30s. Any ethnicity. Athletic, used to living outdoors and off the land. He is a loyal soldier but willing to compromise with the enemy to protect his men. This role is introduced in 502 and has scenes in 503.

My thoughts:

1. Daniel's mom is going to be super important, I think. She needs a new computer, though.

2. I wonder if what Sawyer told Kate was something that he knew from traveling through time. I guess not, seeing as how one can't change fate, but it was my first thought when I thought about that part of the recap after the episode was over.

3. I think the two guys who confronted Kate were the two guys working for Ben mentioned in the meat shop.

4. The opening scene with Dr. Candle was great. At first, I wondered why Sun had remarried so quickly, then I realized that the woman couldn't have been Sun. I *really* like seeing the early years of the Dharma Iniative.

5. Ana-Lucia's appearance was pretty funny. Good ole Hurley!

6. Sun is much deeper and more complex that I ever would have thought.

7. Sawyer and Juliet are *so* gonna knock boots this season.

I didn't see as many answers as I thought I would, but it was a great returning episode.

I loved how the opening scene was reminiscent of Season 2 and Desmond in the hatch too. The same getting up in the morning, putting on a record, etc. We're wondering who it is - and even the same clock (I had that clock too a long time ago!)

It's long like usual.

1. My big question now is really what is going on with Claire?

2. Sun is creepy now. It was interesting to see her and Kate. Their personalities seemed a bit switched from the island.

3. Faraday kept calling Desmond special, just like everyone called Walt special and Aaron special.

4. Were Hurley's daddy issues resolved here? Seemed it. I felt like Hurley was speaking to the audience in this. He told his mom "don't worry, it will all make sense". Interesting that Hurley's mom also said "Only bad people kill people".

5. I wonder if Ben is lying about being able to return to the island once you move it. I think he was using Locke all along and told him that. I think he knew that Locke would have to die and Ben did not want to be the one to do that. I think Ben can go back to the island, he just does not know where it is.

6. Cutting off hands? Very Star Wars again. I wonder if that is what happened to Candle?

7. If the island is constantly skipping how can Sawyer/Juliet et all ever get any sleep?

8. Why do the o6 need to be back? Do they prevent the skipping? Kind of like a constant. It is similiar to how Des was skipping all around in "The Constant"

9. When Walt appeared to Locke back in Season 3 after Locke was shot does that mean Walt had come back already? Was he back on the island skipping?

10. Previously on Expose....loved it with Hurley dad getting his snacks all ready. I'm trying to remember that episode where Hurley said he could not believe who the Cobra was all along. It was Bily Dee Williams.

11. I really like Juliet and Sawyer together. I loved how they kept showing Sawyer getting hot headed and Juliet would step in and calm everything down. Good pair for leader rather than Jack and Kate. I'm rooting for these two!

12. The tone of the show changed and there are no flashbacks or forwards anymore. In hindsight I think it was a brilliant way to tell a story. Very dramatic and allowed for great character developement while enabling great twists a la switching to flash forwards.

#8 reminded me it was all set up by the opening where the record skipped on the turntable.

I agree with you about Ben-based on his butcher shop conversation there's more to this getting people back to the island than what he's telling. It does like he had a face lift, too. Also got a creepy vibe from Sun-it would appear she's now in cahoots with Widmore.

I somehow am doubtful about Sun's alliance with Widmore. Wouldn't you think she would blame Widmore for Jin's death more so than Ben? Widmore was the one that sent the freighter and hired the goons - Keamy et al. My personal thought is that Sun and Ben are secretly working together, and trying to trap Widmore.

I really enjoyed the recap, where the producers injected comments. Plus it refreshed my memory on some things.

Then LOVED the season premiere! Still lots of questions, but I'm ok with them so far.

I'm with the group thinking the lady at the end is Farraday's mom, and I think the goons are pushing Kate to run back to the island, so they must be working for Ben.

Loved seeing Anna Lucia.

I find it curious that Ben said "I lost Reyes".

Could Miles be the baby that Dr. Candle tended to or is he too young?

Why did Locke have to die and why is his body so important to bring back? How come they all got swept into the same time period at first except for Locke? And how come no one else but Charlotte got the nosebleed (I don't like her much but I felt pretty bad when I saw that happen)?

If Richard is so all knowing how come he said to Locke: the next time you see me I won't recognize you? I thought he was the supreme time traveler. Oh, wait-Faraday is the big time traveler. So what time period is he really from? Is he original Dharma? How come he was able to get Des to open the door and talk to him after telling Sawyer it couldn't be done?

What the heck did Sawyer step on and why was it given a scene of its own? I didn't get that or why he wanted a shirt so badly

Who can wait until next week for more?

I wonder if any old scenes from previous seasons has him wearing it? It could be "clue" that it is time tripping Sawyer.

Or they were having fun with us by showing us shirtless Sawyer for so long.

The injury? Will it heal quick on him?

*swoon* at Sawyer. You might be right at the time tripping/shirt-shirtless thing with him. Was he shirtless in the helicopter when he got in and when he jumped? I have a bit of trouble concentrating on plot when I get distracted. I deem it my duty to rewatch.

I don't think Locke was sent into a different time period. Remember those at the beach had no camp so it was before they got there. Locke witnessed Yemi's plane go down, which was prior to 815 going down.

They were just on different parts of the island.

Desmond is different. Desmond time consciousness travels while those on the island are physically moving through time.

I think others have mentioned that the Asian couple in the beginning stated that the baby was a girl.

I'm thinking he comes from well into the future when they will start installing time travel machines. The wheel-like one that Faraday and his people (the british commando?) put on the island went crazy and started this whole mess.

I think Daniel could talk to Desmond because they'd already met each other before in Oxford when they got Penny to be Desmond's constant.

Maybe Sawyer's shirt is important, but I think C&L were just playing up Sawyer's hotness for the fans!

I think I'll watch it again so I can have another Lost fix before next Wednesday!

Remember back when Richard goes to visit the child Locke? He gave him four objects from which to chose among. I thought one of the four objects was a compass? Puts the whole "give me the compass" thing in an interesting, new light.

Exactly. He asks the young Locke to 'Choose which object is yours' and he doesn't pick the compass, even though it's among the objects. He picks the knife, which seems to disappoint Richard. Perhaps a test to see if Locke is time-traveling yet?

I was thinking Widmore was the main financier/creator of the Dharma project. Since Ben wiped all those Dharma folks out and killed the whole concept, it would make sense that Widmore would say that to him.

My thought processes re: Sun - Why does Sun want Ben dead? Does she hold him accountable for Jin's death and how would she reach that conclusion? Did she know that Ben killed Meaney when he knew that Meaney's death meant the destruction of the freighter? The only person who witnessed Meaney's death, besides Ben, was Locke who was appalled at Ben's disregard for the lives of those aboard the freighter. Did Locke visit Sun at some point after the O6 rescue and tell her?

When Faraday was explaining to them that they were skipping and such did he mean that now they are skipping or was prior to being moved the island skipping? He said something about a loop that allowed them to exist on the island...maybe why they got continual Dharma food drops? Able to count on rain, fence up?

Then when they moved the island it became unstuck and out of the loop? Or do I have it backwards and now the island is "skipping" like the visual of the record. I'm confused. I think it is just the terminology.

Before they were not looping, but were in one time/space period. Now, because the frozen donkey wheel, made them go loopy they are skipping all over the place. This will continue until ?? Someone has to stop it, I'm guessing that's why Dan told Des to find his mom. She probably knows how to make it stop.

Did you noticed that the frozen donkey wheel was in the ultra sounding when they were building the station.....so Dharma did not build that part of the station.

I couple of theories\questions about the time/space stuff:

Oceanic 6:
If they were in one time space...the Losties would not have been away 108 days as indicated by Oceanic Airlines at the O6 press conference.

Ben's Journey Through the Donkey Wheel:
Notice Ben immediately ends up in the Sahara after turning the donkey wheel. He sees a press conference about Nadia's death...which obviously takes place some time after the O6 have returned. I think 6 months was the time I had heard.

Jin:
Regarding Jin and the time\space stuff. I think Jin was in a different wave of the perimiter, and thus I think he is in a different time/space zone that both the islanders and the O6'ers. I think he is going to turn up as an old man. He's definitely not dead.

Dharma and the Hostiles:
I think that the Losties are really the hostiles, or will become part of the hostiles. They have or will be blipped back to the Dharma time. Remember in the early days of Lost, Darlton told us that twins were important. Perhaps it was not twins, but the Losties themselves from two different time zones.

My thoughts (which will most likely echo other's thoughts):

1. Loved the start of the season premiere. It was very reminiscent of the season 2 premiere - which I loved... unknown man waking up, making breakfast, showering, exercising, playing music - and it's Desmond... ahhh! This ep... unknown man wakes up to baby crying, gets baby's bottle ready, feeds baby, showers, goes to work, music playing - and it's Marvin(?) Candle... ahhh!

2. I thought the baby was a girl. I was a distance away from a teeny tv, but I thought the baby didn't really have Asian features? I'll say that the baby is Charlotte.

3. What's up with Faraday? Dude's everywhere!

4. I kept telling Sawyer to put a shirt on.

5. So just how are Jack & Ben supposed to get a dead body in a coffin back to the island without anybody noticing?

6. What was in the box that Ben pulled out of the vent? He tried to be casual about it but at the same time was hiding it from Jack.

7. I think Charlotte is going to die... it's like she doesn't belong in that time continuim or something like that.

8. Who were those military dudes? Nasty bunch if they were going to cut off Juliet's hand without getting answers in the first.

9. When will they add Rose & Bernard as part of the regular cast?

10. I was hoping that Locke would make it to the plane and I would see Yemi.

11. It's funny that the ageless Richard Alpert needs reading glasses... but they made him look really hot. (*swoon*)

12. Ben looked nervous for the first time ever in the presence of that woman.

13. The woman is Faraday's mom.

14. Loved seeing Ana Lucia! She looked so polished compared to her island days. Loved the "Libby says hi" line.

15. Oh, did I mention that Richard Alpert is hot? And he needs more screen time.

There isn't much more I can add - everyone has posted so many things to think about! I thought it was a great premiere. Even though they didn't answer many questions, I like the time traveling format and feel like all the pieces are coming together. It's going to be great to see how everything fits.

It was exciting too! There were several times when my stomach lurched. My nerves!! I loved it.

I like how Hurley is the moral conscience of the Oceanic 6 (and he's the crazy one?!) Listening to his monotone recital of every unbelievable thing that has happened was hysterical. And of course his line to Sayid, "Maybe if you ate more comfort food, you wouldn't have to go around shooting people," totally cracked me up. Poor guy had to run to the cops to escape Ben. Can't wait to see how they spring him from jail!

Haven't seen this analysis anywhere so far.

It seems to me, after reviewing the episodes, there were 4 "flashes" on the island after the O6 left. I am convinced Locke is moving along with the other Lostie group.

Flash 1: key clue is the crash of the Nigerian plane. I don't recall exaactly when in time this occurred, but I guess we could figure it out from reviewing Mr. Ecko's flashback. I will guess it is about 1991 to 1995.

Flash 2: sometime in the future, meaning post-January 2005. Losties find the Hatch is blown.

Flash 3: Desmond is in the hatch, so this timeline is between 2001 and 2004

Flash 4: the Brit or Australian soldiers and the flaming arrows. It has to be in the past, but when? From the uniforms I think it must be post WWII.

I also think that the "70 hour window" Mrs. Hawking referred to means that she has calculated the island will return to the same time as the rest of the world for a 70 hour window, and that is the only time the O6 will be able to get there. (Alternatively, the island may not actually be at the same time as the rest of the world during that 70 hours, but it will at least be at a time when the O6 can bridge the gap.)

Does that mean that Charles Widmore found a similiar 'window' when he sent the freighter. From Mrs. Hawkins' maps, you could see that there had been several 'events'. Could this be the same technology Penny was using when she had the tracking team in the Arctic?

I had to laugh a little when Ana Lucia said "Don't get arrested".
because the actress was arrested shortly before her character was killed off and there was major speculation that it was because of the arrest (which it wasn't), but it was still funny.

Good observation MRC.

On Wednesday night, at the beginning of the episode when Dr. Candle is filming a man runs in and interrupts. On that night I thought I heard him call Dr. Candle, Dr. Chang. I went, huh?!? I watched the rerun last night and just to make sure that scene again on abc.com this morning; sure enough the man calls him Dr. Chang.

Have we ever heard Dr. Candle referred to as Dr. Chang?

I was thinking.....Danial goes to Desmond on the thrid jump the Losties did but Desmond remembers it 3 years after they left the island. So does each jump take a years worth of real time and thus why Richard and the Others never age? If it takes a years time and the island is only in that spot for a couple of days thus why Ben has 70 hours to get the O6 (what about Desmond?) to the island or it won't show up for a year?

Could post-move Locke have gone back to that time and killed himself? Then we would have the "body" to send back? Locke would then take his own place and re-live all that time back up to now?

Thi is where all those time travel theories get wonky and confusing and what rules apply to what show etc.
