"DWTS#9, Episode 10 ECST"

Posted by vince3 on 10-19-09 at 07:54 PM
This is the week that Qwerty has dreaded the most: They're either doing the Argentine Tango or the Paso Doble.

As such, the usual precautions are up and running: Extra pillows for her on standby, as well as a fully stocked bar, massage therapist, and psychologist........

Also, she can have a double helping what I'm bringing special to tonight's festivities.......

They've had all sorts of injuries before, but for the first time ever, they've now had to face....... The Flu!

*sprays lysol*

Well I have a bit of a cold, mostly clogging up my ears, maybe I won't have to hear the band tonight.

"Natalie and Alec"
Posted by vince3 on 10-19-09 at 08:06 PM
Natalie's inquisitive mind is not helping their training..... and Alec now has to basically reverse the dancing that she has to do due to the type of dance.......

Dancing the Paso Doble to "American Woman"

"RE: Natalie and Alec"

She had the face, but didn't really project the emotion very well.

Good job, but just not very exciting.

"RE: Natalie and Alec"

She got knocked around a little bit, and Lift Cop Carrie Ann has spotted a lift......

Kinda generic for me. Not even a wee spark.

"RE: Natalie and Alec"
Posted by Loree on 10-19-09 at 10:33 PM
I like Natalie. But I was distracted by her ugly skirt. I really did not like what she was wearing. Alec looked hot in black leather though.

"RE: Natalie and Alec"
Posted by tikigirlie on 10-19-09 at 11:35 PM
Natalie has bad feet. She sickles and it bothers me, but not as much as her lack of emotion. And the way she purses her lips.

"RE: Natalie and Alec"
Posted by qwertypie on 10-19-09 at 11:42 PM
I think the song failed her. And, in her defense, she is not an actress, and you really have to play the part for paso.

"RE: Natalie and Alec"
Posted by Sagebrush Dan on 10-20-09 at 01:38 AM
I blame the music, too. It was really a crappy version of it, and detracted from the dance. As a result, it probably interfered with the dancers' heads too.

"Aaron and Karina"
Posted by vince3 on 10-19-09 at 08:16 PM
Last week, Carrie Ann told him that he turned her off..... so Karina has brought in a couple of Argentine Tango experts to help him out.........

Dancing the Argentine Tango to what sounds like traditional Argentine Tango music......

This might be a liftapalooza for Carrie Ann.........

"RE: Aaron and Karina"

Wow, how many calories in the words I have to eat?

"RE: Aaron and Karina"
Posted by Snidget on 10-19-09 at 08:18 PM
Lifts are allowed for this one??

Man there were a lot in there.

He did a pretty good job. Something just isn't quite right with his dancing for me but I can't quite put my finger on what I don't quite like about him.

For me what is off-putting is that he tries too hard to be something he clearly is not. He seems stuck in a "boy-band" time warp.

"RE: Aaron and Karina"
Posted by vince3 on 10-19-09 at 08:21 PM
No clue. I think they were allowed last season in the week that it debuted, to match the Charleston, I think....... in the character of the dance........

"RE: Aaron and Karina"
Posted by qwertypie on 10-19-09 at 11:44 PM
His upper body is either spastic (like the last couple of weeks) or too stiff as if he has a stick up his butt.

"RE: Aaron and Karina"
Posted by qwertypie on 10-19-09 at 08:18 PM
Aaron, doing Argentine tango? Maybe I should start drinking now. Do you think a 2 hour 48 minute head start would be enough to dull the pain?

"RE: Aaron and Karina"

Probably, but only just.

"RE: Aaron and Karina"
Posted by Loree on 10-19-09 at 10:37 PM
I just don't like him. And the list of pros and celebs that don't seem to like him keeps growing too. He was over an hour late for the Hustle rehearsal while all the others waited on him. Isn't he special...

"RE: Aaron and Karina"
Posted by tikigirlie on 10-19-09 at 11:24 PM
it's like they purposely paired the most vapid male with the most vapid female pro.

there is no way i would ever vote for karina. she has turned me off ever since she was with mario (no last name). i disliked her even more when she was with the woz because she just seemed like she didn't care and didn't care who knew either.

there is just something about her that is off-putting.

and aaron does not help.

what was that song? That was incredible music!

"Michael and Anna D"
Posted by vince3 on 10-19-09 at 08:25 PM
He poured his heart into the Bolero, but it got crushed....... and he got saved from the Bottom Two by the popular vote.

He thinks that the Paso Doble should be in his wheelhouse.....

Anna said that he should walk like he's got a coin in his butt..... so he goes into his bag and literally puts a nickel in his rear!

Dancing the Paso Doble to the theme from "Carmen" (and the Bad News Bears.....)

"RE: Michael and Anna D"
Posted by Snidget on 10-19-09 at 08:28 PM
Carrie Ann likes it as does Len but I found it kinda blah. Maybe because the professional didn't looked more like one of the stars to me.

I think this was Michael's best dance. I actually enjoyed it. And before now I couldn't say that about any dance he did.

"RE: Michael and Anna D"
Posted by tikigirlie on 10-19-09 at 11:26 PM
definitely his best dance, but he is failed by his pro. she tries to hide his flaws, but has the reverse effect. she ends up giving him absolutely nothing to work with.

LAST EDITED ON 10-19-09 AT 08:36 PM (EST)

According to Dmitry, lifts are allowed for the Argentine Tango (in the context of the dance)

They also spent some time working for Habitat for Humanity......

Also it turns out that Mark Ballas might've also caught the Flu bug........ just not as bad as Derek......

Dancing the Argentine Tango to "I'm Sorry, So Sorry"?

"RE: Mya and Dmitry"
Posted by Snidget on 10-19-09 at 08:34 PM
That little bit they showed of Derek he looked really rough. I'd guess Mark might just have a cold. I think the flu really lays you out for a few days, but you can work through a cold if you really have to.

"RE: Mya and Dmitry"

Bruno is right, she is a consummate technician and she clearly works hard. Nicely done.

Scores: 9~9~9 for a total of 27

"RE: Mya and Dmitry"
Posted by Snidget on 10-19-09 at 08:39 PM
I was surprised how much they stayed up on the stage, but it did seem to suit the dance and they did a very good job of it.

"RE: Mya and Dmitry"
Posted by Loree on 10-19-09 at 10:42 PM
I just don't feel anything when I watch Mya dance. Yes, she is good. But she was good the first week and I don't see any improvement. I find myself bored watching her. There just isn't any emotion for me when I watch her.

"Mark and Lacey"
Posted by vince3 on 10-19-09 at 08:46 PM
Their Country Two-Step wowed the judges, but they stayed in the middle of the pack.

Lacey is taking a chance by giving Mark a solo in the dance..... Also, Mark was seen sporting a Mark and Lacey shirt.....

Dancing the Paso Doble to what sounds like traditional Paso Doble music.

Mark's solo was at the beginning on the stage, and Lacey emerged from a smoky area of the audience.......

"RE: Mark and Lacey"
Posted by Snidget on 10-19-09 at 08:48 PM
I liked that. But I found the color of his costume and hers clashed just enough to be distracting.

I think the martial arts really helped with this dance.

"RE: Mark and Lacey"
Posted by whimsey on 10-19-09 at 08:48 PM
That will keep them from the bottom, maybe still in the middle, but not top 2. Loved the outfit

"RE: Mark and Lacey"

MAJOR praise from the judges!

Scores: 9~9~8 for a total of 26 (their highest score to date)

I enjoyed this. I am not a Lacey fan. But I thought they both did good. I found it entertaining.

"Donny and Kym"
Posted by vince3 on 10-19-09 at 08:57 PM
Last weeks dances was definitely theatrical, but technical..... not so much.....

Donny's schedule this week was especially hectic because not only the Argentine Tango, but also the Paso Doble, and he also had 4 nights in Vegas with Marie! I think he's starting to crack.......

Dancing the Argentine Tango to what I'm guessing is traditional Argentine Tango music, but parts sounded off-key......... *wince*

"RE: Donny and Kym"

"RE: Donny and Kym"
Posted by Snidget on 10-19-09 at 08:58 PM
That was pretty good. Although I was looking at his face at the end and it seems he isn't quite sure what to do with it when there isn't a big grin pasted on it.

"RE: Donny and Kym"

"RE: Donny and Kym"
Posted by Loree on 10-19-09 at 10:47 PM
Just when I started to think Donny did good. He had to ruin it by acting like a ham with Bruno again. He couldn't just stand there and say Thank You. He always ruins it for me with his personality.

Scores: 7~8~7 for a total of 22 (their best score to date)

I think I liked him more earlier in this competition. He has lost me.

"Melissa and Mark"
Posted by vince3 on 10-19-09 at 09:20 PM
Last week's dance was her breakthrough performance in the Charleston. However, Mark started to feel sick , so he had to call in a substitute in Anna T...... Maybe it was a 24-hour flu for Mark?

Dancing the Argentine Tango to another round of traditional music.........

"RE: Melissa and Mark"

Sorry, but that was a hot mess.

"RE: Melissa and Mark"

Total was 23, not sure about individual breakdown.

"RE: Melissa and Mark"
Posted by Loree on 10-19-09 at 10:53 PM
Why do the judges continue to give the celebs a hard time about their facial expresssions? Yet they never once mention it to Mark. He does that goofy fish face all the time and it is distracting. How is Melissa suppose to act dramatic when he is making goofy fish faces at her opening and closing his mouth? I would be laughing.

"RE: Melissa and Mark"
Posted by tikigirlie on 10-19-09 at 11:28 PM
The most interesting part about that dance was Mark's pink shoe flaps.

"RE: Melissa and Mark"

She danced it better than him. Seriously, it was hard to pick out who was the pro.

"Kelly and Louis"
Posted by vince3 on 10-19-09 at 09:30 PM
Louis tells her that her character this week is "a cape" and she's got major cases of the giggles......

Well that explains their outfits....... they're doing one of Ozzy's most famous songs!

Dancing the Paso Doble to "Crazy Train"

"RE: Kelly and Louis"

I really enjoyed that. Maybe not perfect, but very entertaining.

"RE: Kelly and Louis"

"RE: Kelly and Louis"

Scores: 8~8~8 for a total of 24 (which happens to currently be her age..... for one more week....)

"RE: Kelly and Louis"
Posted by Loree on 10-19-09 at 10:57 PM
I was entertained. But it was obvious that Kelly was behind Louis at times. And she seemed to not be dramatic enough with her arm gestures. He was sharp and she seemed a little soft.

"Joanna and Maksim"
Posted by vince3 on 10-19-09 at 09:42 PM
Normally Joanna and Derek, but after he did a topless Lambada, he caught the Flu....... and it hit him HARD......

So she gets partnered up with Maks who she's had a little bit of experience with from her time on the Superstars........

Love Maks/Hate Joanna. He was great. Was Joanna there?

"RE: Joanna and Maksim"
Posted by tikigirlie on 10-19-09 at 11:34 PM
Can't say I'm sad for the Derek-free week. Similarly to Karina (and come to think of it, Julianne as well), Derek is just annoying. He is soooo cocky and he tries to take all the spotlight.

Joanna is alright to me. She needs to point her toes more. She has really weak ankles and her feet just flop around.

Besides that, it's like she barely keeps up with the choreo sometimes.

She did okay today, except for those stumbles. She lost character. Happy Derek's not on my TV much this week,

"RE: Joanna and Maksim"
Posted by Sagebrush Dan on 10-20-09 at 01:45 AM
I was really impressed with what a good couple they made. I'm not a fan of Maks, but this was quite a well-matched pair.

Of course, Derek did all he could to hog the camera.

"Group Dance: Disco Hustle"
Posted by vince3 on 10-19-09 at 09:56 PM
Kelly will be dancing the Hustle barefoot, due to a slight injury to her feet in her regular dance......

Corky Ballas is leading the charge for this, and Louis is very, very confused...... they'll each have an individual portion, as well!

"The Band"
Posted by Round Robin on 10-20-09 at 01:44 AM
Is it my imagination, or did the band have a bit of a rough night tonight? They had their rough patches here and there, and I forget which song it was, but it sounded like they effed one couple's music up pretty majorly somewhere in the middle of the show. Maybe they need to get a new band or a new band leader, because they generally seem off their game this season more than usual.

"RE: The Band"
Posted by Sagebrush Dan on 10-20-09 at 01:46 AM
It's not your imagination. But then, I've never been a fan of this band.

"RE: The Band"
Posted by vince3 on 10-20-09 at 02:20 AM
Probably Donny/Kym's Argentine Tango...... I *winced* on that one........

But then again, when they did the BIG intro on both opening nights, they broke down on their friggen' theme music about 3/4ths of the way through.........

"RE: The Band"
Posted by qwertypie on 10-20-09 at 04:55 PM
Yeah the song choices are brutal and then the band's treatment makes it even worse.
