"topical analgesic & HIVES"

what was up with that guy's hives? I know it wasnt supposed to be funny but he sent me into hysterics with his needing a "topical analgesic" for those hives on his face. I think he is a perfect example of someone who doesnt even realize how funny they are but makes great entertainment (as opposed to Anna who is a terrible actress and overacts everything and seems like she belongs on a soap opera)

Yeah, that was a little strange.

do you think he is for real, or trying to be overly dramatic to get air time?

From my experience, and I got to know Arthur pretty well before the show began filming, that's how Art is. He's naturally over-dramatic. It's part of his charm, and while it seems kind of goofy on t.v., is pretty endearing in real life.

I'd say that all five of the final Joes were being themselves: Josh, Art, Nathan, Gino, Clay - none of them changed for the cameras. That's not to say that the portrayal of them being themsleves is accurate, but they weren't acting for the cameras.

Thank you. I wasn't trying to be funny. I really did breakout in Hives. All the excitement and everything takes it's toll you know. Anna, by the way, is a genuine wonderful person who was not acting on the show.

Hi,
Are you really Arthur from the show. How are things with you? Apparently you survived the whole ordeal. Have you heard where/how the other AJ's are?
Nice to see your name there.

Yes, it's me. I keep in touch with a few of the guys. I saw a bunch of them at the L.A. premiere on 6/28...everyone seems to be doing well.

Welcome back, Arthur!

You really made me giggle during the second-last episode. We understand from Nathan that you Joes couldn't chat with us while the show was airing because of your contract. So how about now? Good job making the final four five, BTW.

I think this has been asked, but I'm curious: is Carson really that big a jerk?

How long did you get to stay in Tahiti after the elimination? Was there a sequestered place for the eliminated contestants?

On a different note, how are things for you now? You were a lot of fun. Thanks!

The fountains of fate once again spout.

Thank you Seana. Now that the show is over, I am no longer restricted from participating on the message boards.

Carson is not a jerk. I saw him a few times after the show and I must say he is good company and fun to hang out with.

I left Tahiti the day after I was eliminated, along with Josh A and Josh N.

I'm having a good time in NY. I'm trying to sing as often as I can.

Arthur:
First of all, I have been dying to know- what IS a topical analgesic? I know you are in pharmacetical sales so you must have a stash of drugs with you! I have never heard of topical analgesic. is it like cortisone?

Second, the way you said it, "I had to take an antihistamine and a tpoical analgesic" with that cream all over your face, and of course your accent, sent me and my husband into hysterics (which was actually not such a good thing b.c my husband had just broken 3 ribs and laughing really hurt him). we were still laughing about it days later.

Topical means it's applied to the skin, rather than taken internally. Analgesic means it relieves pain.

Gee LawSchool...It sounds like you went to MedSchool cuz you're soooooo smart. I was really curious why Arthur said "Topical Analgesic". What are some common topical analgesics that dopey people like me might be familiar with?

Antihistamines I'm familiar with - like Benadryl. Just not that familiar with Topical Analgesics and certainly don't hear it used in a sentence as smoothely as Arthur did on the show.

Cortizone cream would be a topical analgesic.

I am happy that you and your husband were able to have some laughs while watching AJ.

I'm actualy not in pharmaceutical sales. I'm in capital equipment sales.

I see Jason has answered your question already.

Thanks everyone. While we're on the subject Arthur - Why did you break out in Hives when Anna removed her makeup mask? You were so honorable the prior evening (from what we saw) that it seemed like not only did you have nothing to hide but you were the most honorable guy in the group!

Thank you. Despite having had nothing to worry, about with regard to being faithful to Anna at the bar scene, I broke out in hives anyway. I think it was a combination of excitement and something I ate. One thing about our daily schedule on the show, we really never knew when or what we were going to eat. I don't mean we had to forage for food like on Survivor, I mean some days we were so busy with taping, that the next thing you know, we haven't eaten in 5 or 6 hours. So I think that had to do something with it. Plus Dante's feet were stinking up the entire hillside. I could have had a reaction to that, as my body never full adjusted to that olfactory onslaught.

Arthur: Ok please dont think I am crazy, but I do have one last question on this subject: did the producers of the show force you to use generic names instead of brand names (ie; you said "antihistamine and tpoical analgesic" instead of say, benedryl and tiger balm or whatever) OR were you saying it that way for dramatic effect?

Freakus, your questions crack me up. One of the true elements of reality/unscripted programming is that all the words you hear are just that--unscripted. Every word you heard me utter was off the cuff, my own decision, uncoached. We were constantly told by production assistants to cover all brand names on products, never mention brand names. One thing that killed me was I couldn't sing any Sinatra music. That's why I had to write an original tune for Anna.

Arthur:
are you allowed to use brand names here? If so I would love to know what topical analgesic you used! (I have had my share of itching and hives and yet dont recognize that substance you had on your face!) also on that note, did you bring it with you or did the producers give it to you?

Arthur: I just wanted to tell you that you were so great on the show. There were so many memorable moments of you--you were so real and so entertaining just being yourself! I posted something on one of Nathan's threads to tell you guys how much respect I have for you putting yourself out there in front of millions of people. You guys are really brave! I sincerely hope that wonderful things are happening for all you guys--you deserve it!

Arthur,
Sure enjoyed you on the show! My son also breaks out in hives during times of stress/excitement, so I understand where you were coming from.

(I love your post down below talking about the "L.A. Premiere" you were at. Could you imagine yourself saying such a thing 18 months ago?)

Thanks, Rocket. You're right, I never thought I would be attending an L.A. Premiere for anything. Since then, my career has skyrocketed. Lots of people buy me drinks now and my song requests get moved up to the top of the pile at my local karaoke joints.

I need to stop talking in this thread. I really don't want the crux of my questions and answsers to be conducted under the name "Topical Analgesic and HIVES".
