"DWTS#9, Episode 1 ECST"

Posted by vince3 on 09-21-09 at 04:37 PM
Tonight we begin the voyage with our largest cast ever as we have 16 teams of celebs/dancers. This week will be spread out over 3 nights, ending with a double elimination of one star of each gender.

Tonight, the male stars will be dancing, which means that we will be seeing the winner of the pro wannabe tryouts last season among others.........

Tuesday will be the female stars, where Mark Ballas will try to defend his Dancing Crown (and award the Triplets their 6th)

A few ground rules: because this is an East Coast Spoiler Thread, please keep details of the night's dancing until at least the beginning of the show on the West Coast, which is 11:00 Eastern. Also, no sig pics would be appreciated, to help those with dial up better be able to access this thread.

I will be posting the dancers in the Subject part of the posts, and as many details as I can get from the intro packages. I will also try to get the type of dance and the song that the orchestra is attempting to play for them....... However, I'm not perfect in getting song titles, and this band can mangle even the classics, so if I get it wrong, feel free to correct me.

After the dance is over, I'll reply to the dancer's original post with their scores, and any kind of interesting bits I can get from the Samantha-bot interview/judges' spiels.

Other than that, let's have fun because it's time to Dance again!

You are in fine form tonight Vince

"Opening Number"
Posted by vince3 on 09-21-09 at 08:03 PM
The Boys are Back in Town

Derek, Dmitry, Louis, Maksim, Alec, Jonathon, Mark, and Tony doing the dancing after being lowered into the studio in a window washer-esque apparatus.........

"BIG Intro"
Posted by vince3 on 09-21-09 at 08:05 PM
Of all 16 pairs. It looks like the costumes that they were using for the commercials are some of the outfits being used for this week......

In fact the intro's taking so long, the orchestra's timing has already broken down.......

"RE: BIG Intro"
Posted by Snidget on 09-21-09 at 08:06 PM
Tom quips that all the time we have for tonight, see you tomorrow.

"Aaron and Karina"
Posted by vince3 on 09-21-09 at 08:09 PM
They still haven't learned: Design-A-Dance will return again, and there will be another Pro wannabe tryout competition.......

All couples will be doing both a Latin and a Ballroom dance this week........

He's the youngest ever male Grammy winner, and she's the Russian Ballroom diva.....

They'll be doing the Viennese Waltz and Cha Cha Cha this week.

He's smitten with Karina, but he also distracted by her hotness......

Dancing the Cha Cha Cha to "Begging"?

"RE: Aaron and Karina"
Posted by Snidget on 09-21-09 at 08:11 PM
Madcon - Beggin' from what I got with google

Definitely got some potential there, but most of the boy band types do.

"RE: Aaron and Karina"
Posted by vince3 on 09-21-09 at 08:13 PM
Mostly complimentry from the Judges, with Bruno saying something about being a little too energetic, which Tom quips about the pot calling the kettle black.......

Scores: 7~8~7 for a total of 22.

"RE: Aaron and Karina"
Posted by Sagebrush Dan on 09-22-09 at 01:12 AM
I liked him. He could actually go pretty far.

"Chuck and Anna T"
Posted by vince3 on 09-21-09 at 08:19 PM
He's an Ultimae Fighting Champion, and she says that she's a really tough teacher.......

They met at his gym where he was doing his fighting training.....

They're dancing Fox Trot, and she's trying to get him to smile...... which isn't working especially when he's not getting his steps right.....

Dancing the Fox Trot to "That's Life"

"RE: Chuck and Anna T"
Posted by Snidget on 09-21-09 at 08:21 PM
Almost managed to smile a bit. Seemed a bit on the stiff side to me. Hard to get that posture and be relaxed, and I don't think that is how his muscles are used to working.

"RE: Chuck and Anna T"
Posted by vince3 on 09-21-09 at 08:23 PM
Keep trying to get him to smile, Anna..... we might get there by the end of the season...... He finally does smile after the dance......

Entertaing? Yes! Technically right? Not so much..... but you can improve......

Lion King will be on Wednesday's result show (TV Guide said that the song will be ironically be "Circle of Life", ironic because they'll also be doing a Patrick Swayze tribute.....)

Scores: 6~5~5 for a total of 16

"RE: Chuck and Anna T"
Posted by whimsey on 09-21-09 at 08:30 PM
I smiled, too, through the whole dance.

"RE: Chuck and Anna T"

Fun! He's got a lot of charm about him.

"Drink of the night"
Posted by whimsey on 09-21-09 at 08:29 PM
sorry I'm late

Drink of the night

In honor of the menfolk, a variety of ales; pale, stout, chocolate ( my BIL's favorite)

snack of the night

spinach, mushroom and feta pizza
Italian sausage, pepperoni, extra cheese pizza
buffalo wings

Woo Hoo.

Sounds great.

"Mark and Lacey"
Posted by vince3 on 09-21-09 at 08:31 PM
He's both a martial artist-actor, and also the Chairman of Iron Chef America, she's the Rebel of the dance floor.....

He's excited that she is his teacher..... and he's trying to translate his martial artistry into ballroom dancing!

Dancing the Cha Cha Cha to, of course, "Kung Fu Fighting"! HIYA! LOL

"RE: Mark and Lacey"
Posted by Snidget on 09-21-09 at 08:33 PM
Lots of potential, likely early front runner.

"RE: Mark and Lacey"
Posted by vince3 on 09-21-09 at 08:36 PM
Tonight is the start of the "Relay" Dancing gimmick, in which the teams that share the same dance will be dancing to the same song back to back......... (Which will be how they'll get everyone done in time, since they're seriously running late right now.......)

Scores: 7~7~7 for a total of 21

"RE: Mark and Lacey"
Posted by whimsey on 09-21-09 at 08:37 PM
He was my first pick, snidget. Which means he won't last. My record has been:

Joey Fatone
Helio Castronueves
Christian De La Fuente (and was that my spicy Chilean sea bass in the audience?)
Giles Marini

one for 4...

"RE: Mark and Lacey"
Posted by qwertypie on 09-21-09 at 08:58 PM
Lots of potential there. He just needs to hit the moves harder and sharper.

"RE: Mark and Lacey"
Posted by jbug on 09-22-09 at 09:22 AM
I've been looking forward to seeing him, and I was not disappointed!
I was surprised tho at his sense of humor! He's usually so serious on Iron Chef - but even then you sometimes get a glimpse of his mischievous side.

I was not excited to see him paired with Lacey - she's too much of a clown for me - but it seemed to work last night.

"Ashley and Edyta"
Posted by vince3 on 09-21-09 at 08:42 PM
He's the son of Season 2 of DWTS alum George Hamilton, and she's infamous for wearing very little on the dance floor......

Edyta also was George's partner..... Ashley's skills in dancing is defintely not so much..... apparently he's had a few accidents and they're apparently not helping matters.......

Dancing the Fox Trot to "Anything You Like"?

"RE: Ashley and Edyta"
Posted by Snidget on 09-21-09 at 08:43 PM
That was not good. Len likes the footwork, but it was way too stiff for me.

"RE: Ashley and Edyta"
Posted by vince3 on 09-21-09 at 08:45 PM
This one appears to me more technical than entertaining.....

Dance type is up first for Design-A-Dance, which will also let us pick an alum star to partner with a pro......

Scores: 5~6~4 for a total of 15

He seemed terrified. I hope he can relax a bit.

"RE: Ashley and Edyta"

Would have helped if the song had a beat to it.

"RE: Ashley and Edyta"
Posted by Sagebrush Dan on 09-22-09 at 01:14 AM
Sad that Bruno compared him unfavorably to his father. He's probably heard that all of his life. I voted for him like crazy just to get Delay out of there.

"Donny and Kym"
Posted by vince3 on 09-21-09 at 08:52 PM
He's a showbiz legend, and brother of Season 5 alum, Marie Osmond, and she's the "Wonder from Down Under"....

Marie has dared Donny to do better than her 3rd place.......

He's having a little problem with his posture, and an even bigger problem when they're doing intimate holds.......

Dancing the Fox Trot to "All That Jazz"

"RE: Donny and Kym"
Posted by Snidget on 09-21-09 at 08:54 PM
Fairly good on the showmanship, but occasionally falls into stank face that I didn't like.

"RE: Donny and Kym"
Posted by whimsey on 09-21-09 at 08:55 PM
Oh Donnie, take it down just a wee bit, could you? You could actually do well if you take it down a bit.

"RE: Donny and Kym"
Posted by qwertypie on 09-21-09 at 08:55 PM
Sh!t. I was hoping he would really svck.

"RE: Donny and Kym"
Posted by Snidget on 09-21-09 at 08:58 PM
Me too, but I knew he'd be fairly comfortable even this is a different kind of performance than he is used to. Hopefully he'll stay kinda in the middle so won't hang on too long, but he's likely to have a big fan base that will keep him in for awhile.

"RE: Donny and Kym"
Posted by vince3 on 09-21-09 at 09:00 PM
Another case of entertaining, yes and technical, notsomuch......

Scores: 7~6~7 for a total of 20

"RE: Donny and Kym"
Posted by Sagebrush Dan on 09-22-09 at 01:15 AM
Much better than I thought he would be. I didn't want to like him. I haven't liked him since the 1970s. But, I just may root for him here. I think he's potentially much better than Marie.

"Louis and Chelsie"
Posted by vince3 on 09-21-09 at 09:05 PM
He's a professional snowboarder and currently training for the 2010 Olympics. She's Big Business in the ballroom, even though she's small......

Not only does he have no dance experience, he's never seen an episode of this show! They're also glad that they're matching up height-wise, since they're both short.... He got put through the ringer by Chelsie, including the Posture Bar that Kym might have put Donny on......

Dancing the Fox Trot to "It's My Life" (Screechy version)

"RE: Louis and Chelsie"
Posted by Snidget on 09-21-09 at 09:06 PM
Oh that wasn't good. He was working really hard on technique but really needs to work on some grace.

Len says he needs a haircut.

"RE: Louis and Chelsie"
Posted by whimsey on 09-21-09 at 09:07 PM
He is soooo cute and respectful. Wrong season for him, though, I think.

"RE: Louis and Chelsie"
Posted by vince3 on 09-21-09 at 09:08 PM
Considering his lack of experience, he did pretty good...... Len wants him to get a haircut.... Bruno called him a 'dancing hobbit'......

Sean Kingston and a Miley Cyrus music video premiere will also be on Wednesday.......

Scores: 6~7~6 for a total of 19

"RE: Louis and Chelsie"

Dancing Hobbit -- Bwa Ha Ha Ha Ha!

Not looking forward to the Miley Cyrus Video. BAH!

"RE: Louis and Chelsie"

Better a Miley video than a live Miley performance, though, I would say.

"Michael and Anna D"
Posted by vince3 on 09-21-09 at 09:15 PM
He's a 3-time Super Bowl champion and Hall of Famer..... she's the winner of the Pro Dancer tryouts last season..... The main reason that he joined this season: Jerry Rice, who finished 2nd in Season 2..... this is his last chance to say tha he beat him........

His first goal is beating Jerry's 21 on his initial Cha Cha Cha.....

Dancing the Cha Cha Cha to "I Feel Good"

"RE: Michael and Anna D"
Posted by Snidget on 09-21-09 at 09:17 PM
That was OK, but nothing special.

"RE: Michael and Anna D"
Posted by vince3 on 09-21-09 at 09:19 PM
Len said that it lacked content..... and Bruno said that there was a few things that needed work on......

*holds both parts of the top of nose while eyes are closed as they introduce the band.....*

Scores: 5~4~4 for a total of 13...... Jerry 1, Michael 0.... and the audience wants to riot......

"RE: Michael and Anna D"
Posted by Snidget on 09-21-09 at 09:21 PM
You are not a fan of the band? Who?Knew?

*giggle*

Tom should have gotten the hosting Emmy for being able to praise the band with a straight face and without a drop of sarcasm in his voice.

"Tom and Cheryl"
Posted by vince3 on 09-21-09 at 09:28 PM
Am I seeing things, or did they make a TV series out of the "Witches of Eastwick"?

He's a disgraced former House of Representatives Majority Leader, and she's a two-time Dancing Champion.....

Was the shots of his butt really necessary? He's afraid of embarassing himself..... (too late for that) He's also having problems moving to his left......

Dancing the Cha Cha Cha to "Wild Thing" (WTF version)

DeLay is doing Dancing Karaoke!

Two groups of four, each couple will be ranked by the judges and awarded points based on their rankings.....

10, 8, 6, 4 are the distribution points of scores depending on their ranks in the dance.....

Chuck, Ashley, Donnie, and Louie are in this grouping.

Edyta enjoys showcasing herself too much. Her partner had nothing to do except be a prop for her.
Edyta dear, they can't judge your partner's dancing abilities if you don't allow him to dance......

"RE: Relay Dance: Salsa"

I really did think Donny pulled this one off. Again, I really didn't want to like him, but he's quite an entertainer! Let's see if he can dance correctly too.

Hard to guess who'll get the gate out of this crew. Tom and Ashley both have popular partners, and Michael is this season's football player, so it's a bit hard to imagine any of them getting the ax, but one of them is probably gonna have to, because I can't imagine the bootee being any higher up the leaderboard than these guys, and these guys all suck.

"RE: Male Judges Leaderboard"

21 (+8) Mark/Lacey 29
19 (+8) Louis/Chelsie 27
16 (+6) Chuck/Anna T 22
16 (+4) Tom/Cheryl 20
