Is anyone playing the online game and want to exchange ideas? It seems harder than the show!

The hardest part was getting into the blasted game. Had to look for a "backdoor" in as their links directly from the trivia game went nowhere. Bad, bad, coders.

Make sure you take the shovel and the watch that appear when you're looking for the map. Pay attention to other selectable items (that don't do anything when you click on them) at the dock. Use Ask to find the location on the map you found (for more precise directions you may want to google the exact location & look at a better map). Use the watch - note the direction the hands point - in your backpack as a clue where to dig. Remember that shadows change as the time change. Remember what was originally at the dock that shows up here in order to find the final dig location.

Good enough?

Frankly, I was a bit disappointed. I liked the show but I don't really want to be an RTV DAW. Playing for the chance to be on TV in a real treasure hunt, a la the show, in order to win the prize isn't what I thought it was going to be. So, I may play future games just to see what they come up with, but I'm not playing to win anything at this point.

What is the URL to the game?

You can get to it from the link to Treasure Hunters via nbc.com. But, I believe in order to play each round you must have played the trivia question game during the accompanying show episode.

It's your basic point and click game such as the original Myst. Although I wouldn't mind the money I have no intention of going to the live finale. However, I consider it part of my graduate course on games, simulations, and ve's to play any game I can this summer, strictly for educational purposes of course.

I didn't think to use the watch as a pointer, but did stumble on something on the map (and the dock)that, after I clicked on the watch and changed the picture, made sense.

I also think playing this for a chance to be on TV is goofy, so I'm not playing for the prize either, just for fun.

It reminds me of those old King's Quest computer games from the 1990s, where the entire strategy is "pick up everything that's not nailed down." And, click on every pixel possible. Now, if only there were a way to pick up that bottle at the pier...

By the way, I figured out the first challenge by sheer luck. I didn't quite get what was going on with the watch, but eventually I tried to dig where a bird was sitting and it worked.

Me, too, cuz the map said something about a raven.

Hint: You need both of the short planks.

As mentioned before you need to carry the planks around until you can build out the necessary bridge to get across.

Like so much of this game, it seems quite easy, once you start to figure out how it was designed to be played. After getting across the bridge, I did not realize that I needed to click on some stuff in the picture to keep moving forward. I just kept trying to guess who owned the box thinking it had something to do with either Lewis and Clark or The Declaration of Independence.

I finally figured out that I had to get to some clues, and then I finally found the clues and got the answer. It was really all just common sense, no pun intended.

This is pretty fun for me and my kids. I know I should probably get a life...but what else is a 41 year old engineer to do with his time.

Happy hunting!

Has anyone noticed the signs on the road as they race on the show and that the signs say the same thing thats written on the puzzle pieces we look for in the home game.

I hope that made sense!

Yeah, the first time through I only got one of the items I needed to help me. Haste makes waste for sure in this game. It is getting a little more tricky each week.

I am pretty sure I know where the place is, but I am not sure if they are looking for a city or something else as the answer. Last week I had a pretty good hunch and the clue piece tonight definitely lines up with my hunch.

Here's the clues that I have so far, I didn't watch the 2nd episode so I'm missing that one. (you can only play for clues on the night the show originally airs, not when they repeat an episode like they did tonight with episode 2) If someone has the 2nd clue and can share it with me I'd sure appreciate it!

1st clue: "Shadows fall in time"
3rd clue: "It is the garden you seek"

I am not really sure about the clues vs the items written on the clue pieces.

I did write down the term "Sense will guide you" for some reason on 26 June. Maybe that is what you are looking for.

Where did you guys get these phrases? I'm quite clueless here...

For those who can't get the final puzzle (I can't submit answers because I was too idiotic to put my real age in), here's something that TAR:FE offers...

"RE: Online Treasure Hunt"

Let's just make it too easy on everyone. This was my thought after the second clue and definitely after the third clue. But my question still stands, are we supposed to be entering a City or what?

Also, does having more correct guesses give you better odds of getting chosen to win online?

Can more than one person per family sign up for the online game?

There are two ways to get the clues. One is to play the $10K game only, or you get it when you complete the challenge in the $20K game. But, you only get the puzzle pieces when you complete the challenge for the $20K.

I've known where I was, and submitted my first answer after game #2. But, I, too, am unsure if they want the area (which is what I've given after games 2 & 3, the city (which I may use after game 4), or a specific building/landmark. If it's the last it'll have to wait until farther along to determine which.

Hey, I did the same thing! LOL If you've been to the flagpole, and clicked on the bugle, you'll watch a video (a commercial for Genworth or whatever that insurance company is that's sponsoring the show), and then (if I'm recalling correctly) a brick in the wall beside the flagpole will pop out, revealing a glass bottle. Click on the bottle, and you'll get a map. You'll also get the bottle's CORK in your backpack -- it seems to me that the cork just automatically went into the backpack, but I'm not sure.

At any rate, go back to the garden pool, get the cork out of your backpack, and then click on the fountain in the middle of the pool. The cork will automatically insert itself into the fountain. And then some more stuff will happen And you'll be able to find your way out of the challenge successfully ... and you won't have to keep on sinking those ships LOL

I must've sunk a dozen before I asked for help from the NBC board, and somebody there had the info re the cork. I kept seeing it in my backpack, but I didn't know it was a cork! I thought it was the rolled-up map which had been in the bottle.

hmm ... I wish I knew! I don't think I got the bottle at all!

LOL I'll have to go back and check the contents of my backpack again.

Hey, are you only referring to the 3rd Challenge? Or were there bottles/corks/maps in the 1st and 2nd challenges also? If there were, I obviously missed them! aieee!

Fun stuff! Great mystery game with excellent cg visuals reminiscent of Myst and Riven.

Try looking for another part in the fountain. Take both of your pieces to the chain room. Shooting a ship should be easier after that. Then remember that it probably would be helpful to stop the water from leaking out of the fountain.

I got through challenge 4 and after getting out of the jail I saw the puzzle piece and put it in my backpack. The game took me to the gameboard and the new puzzle piece was then another one just like the week 3 piece. I cannot remember exactly what the puzzle piece looked like after I got out of jail, but it definitely was not the same as last week.

Could this be a bug in the game?

click on the backpack then combine the washer you should have picked up in menlo park with the string click drag and releaseto toss the device onto the key ring

When you're in Edison's office, there is a shelf above the table with the picture viewere. On the shelf is a small glass jar with a round manget on top. Get the magnet and take it with you to the jail. Tie the rope to the magnet and throw that at the keys. Good luck!

I'm also having trouble with this quest. I can get as far as having all 3 times (washer, rope, and boot), I combine the washer and the rope...and that's as far as it goes. I literally spent 10 minutes throwing the washer/rope combo at the keys, throwing it from different locations, but I'm not having any luck. Am I missing something?

"RE: Online Treasure Hunt"
Posted by chammock on 07-11-06 at 01:41 PM
It is a magnet not a washer. If you can get the magnet to hit the wood it will let you know that you are close. Once the jail door is open, just grab the puzzle piece.

I've tossed the goofy thing like 30 times now and it isn't catching. Is there a specific area to throw? Do I need to do something else first?

I would still be clicking on the magnet to try and hit the keys if my bf didn't point out that you had to throw it.
It then took 30 throws to actually catch the keys with bf telling how to do it 'properly'.

The clues reference the history of the star spangled banner. The puzzle peices form the national mall. the flag that flew over ft mchenry which inspired the national anthem is now on display at the smithsonian national museum of american history located at the national mall..... final answer: national museum of american history.
good luck

The clues:
1)rush to wher the treasure stands... pointless
2)look on water.... francis scott key was inspired to write the poem the star spangled banner while looking out over the water.
3)in dark times the words form........the words formed to the poem that became our national anthem during war
4)drinking tune...."to anacreon in heaven" is the tune the song is set to
as for the puzzle pieces: google "national mall map" and see if they dont fit perfectly(or see one of the above posts)
i know many of you have been guessing the natinal mall or washington dc already but i really think this leads to the smthsonian national museum of american history it's just cheesy enough (great treasure= our national history)and i'm sure i'm not the first to think of this but i thought i'd share it cause i have no desire to be on t.v.

Good thoughts. I was thinking that the 'clues' were only marginally helpful at this point as they relate to the tv game more than to the online game. The clues that really matter here are the circled words from the tv clues. However that is definitely the mall. One of the pieces is clearly the washington monument, but I'm thinking that there is more to it than that.

But, the four of us had a great time.

"RE: Online Treasure Hunt"

In challenge 3, you need to click on the doorway all the way to the left. Inside is a fountain. Click the fountain and you will get a long piece. Put that in your backpack. Go back to the main part of the fort and click the doorway in the middle. That will take you to a little shed that says "Great Chain" on it. Click the rocks to the left of the shed and you'll find a gear. Put that in your backpack. Now go into the shed. Attach the gear and the handle. Pull the handle and you will raise the great chain. This will cause the ship to turn around, giving your more time to aim the cannon and shoot it. A tip on the shooting - look at how the clouds are moving because the wind will have an effect on where the cannonball goes.

When you get to the slide about Latimer, you need to decode the message that is in Morse code on that slide. I just pulled up ask.com, did a search for Morse code translators, and typed in the Morse code that is on that slide. Once you translate it, put the phrase it gives you into ask.com and it should give you the information you need to find your next stop.

OK, now I'm in Hannibal (or St. Petersburg) Missouri, and found the sword near the cave entrance. I'm digging around in the cave with the sword, and coming up with nothing. The lantern I found on the steamboat seems to have no effect in the cave. Is this part of the puzzle similar to the key toss in the jail? Do I just need to keep trying till I get lucky? Or am I missing something?

Just answered my own question. Kept digging, and found the clue.

If you take the paper down into the steam room and hold it over the steam coming out of the pipe, a quote from Tom Sawyer will appear. Hopefully, one would logically figure out the location would be the home of the author.

I got the piece of paper from the top of the steam boat and went down to the steam room biut that is all the futher i can get. it won't let me do anything. How do I get out of here....
I tried doing the steam the paper thing but every time I click on the paper it puts ir back in my back pack... Is there a certain way you have to have the pipes?????

"RE: Online Treasure Hunt"

Is there a certain way you have to have the pipes?????

yes. That is the main part of the steam room challenge. You have to arrange them so that all of the steam goes to the end (and none escapes).

Once you have done that, the steam ship will move and maybe the paper will do something more than returning to your backpack.

Have the paper, have the sword at the cave. How do you dig ? I get the sword out of the pack but when I click it as if to use it, it goes back into the pack.

Don't click the sword, click on the spots on the ground you want to dig.

How many people got confused on the cup game at the end? I missed it on both guesses my first time. Then it gave me the option to use my insurance policy but I cancelled that and did the whole challenge again so I wouldn't use the insurance.

I am stuck like you are.. I have gone back to Bodie to see if there was anything I needed but don't seem to find anything.. if anyone can help.. please do

"RE: Newest challenge"

I read you need silver to put into the jar, but I have no silver and in going back to Bodie can't seem to find anymore. Perhaps after the silver weighing we were suppose to put it back into our backpack?

"RE: Newest challenge"

what is the secret to weighing the silver?

"RE: Newest challenge"
Posted by mmsmilie2 on 07-24-06 at 11:26 PM
Ok.. I went back again to Bodie and in the saloon you have to play one of the paino songs.. I believe it was the 3rd or 4th one.. can't remember exactly so just play them all.. anyways once you play the certain song, the picture frame opens and you get bags of silver.. one is full of sand and you have to use the scale to figure out which one has sand

I can not find the fountain. Where is it? What city do I want to go to when I put the wheel on the carriage? Am I missing something here?

"RE: Newest challenge"
Posted by StarryLuna on 07-25-06 at 00:14 AM
Wow, how did you figure out where to go in the wagon without weighing the silver? Did I miss a clue along the way too?

Anyway, yes, after you weigh the silver, take it with you. When you get to the fountain, put it in the jar, and then you get two chances (it costs 4 bags of silver each time) to play the game. It's the one where they mix all the cups up and you have to follow which cup has your silver under it.

the wagon wheel is in the store with the cash register i believe on the left you cant hardly see it if not looking... right below the window just click on it! if not the store then the other building but either way it is on the left of page and you can only see part of it! after putting it on .. click on the seat of wagon.

Yes I am. I also believe it is harder than the tv game. In searching for clues on ask.com I found that someone had put up the answers to some of the levels of the game which was a big help. At ask.com type in Don't back down: Treasure Hunters Challenge: week 4 You should get a listing of a lot of things, and one of then should be the answers to some of the weeks. Just click on them and you'll find the help you'll need for a level. I do not see week 6 yet. Week 6 is a doosey. I am stuck. I have done what I am suppose to do and I do not know what to do next. I love the show and I love the online game. Good luck and have fun playing and watching the game.

That's all I got. Just make sure you get the chain from the maze too. Then you click on the skip this option at the bottom. WHen you end up at the oil shack use the chain to get the truck to move then go inside and the next puzzle piece is in the table drawer.

how did u use the coordinates? where did u have to gfo to use it?

"RE: Latitude and Longitude question?"
Posted by goodtimes on 07-31-06 at 11:14 PM
That works for the extra genworth insurance ticket, but I can't get past the next step. When you found the chain, there was a lever. You may need to put the chain back on the lever to open another door, then take the chain with you again. Work your way up to the top of the maze and you will come to a large opening that doesn't look like you can jump across. If you get a running start, then you can make it across (Shift + spacebar).
When you work your way down after making the large jump, you will get to a door and find the book with the coordinates in it.
You can then enter that in the globe. I get stuck from this point forward.

"RE: Latitude and Longitude question?"
Posted by rjrome26 on 07-31-06 at 11:42 PM
when u enter those coordinates, it takes u to an oil field. use the chain...it will hook up to the truck and then go in the shed....in the desk drawer is the clue.

"RE: Latitude and Longitude question?"
Posted by HootieMcBoobie on 08-01-06 at 00:13 AM

HELP

"Online Cjallenge #7 *SPOILER*"
Posted by tikisteve on 08-02-06 at 02:51 AM
Let me preface this spoiler by noting that there have been a few hangups (apparently related to the flash programming) encountered by some of us attempting to complete this challenge. I have highlighted these as I go. Some of us have found it necessary to restart the challenge, or even reboot our machines in order to get the game to work properly. Play at your own risk! That said, after listening to Laird's intro speech and clicking on the cell phone to close it:

1. You find yourself in front of a church in the town of Sleepy Hollow. Click on the iron fence to the right of the church to enter the graveyard.
2. Click around on the tombstones until you find the tombstone of Washington Irving, author of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow."
3. Click on the right hand ledge at the bottom of Irving's tombstone to find a key. Place it in your backback.
4. Click the "Go Back" button to return to the graveyard.
5. Click "Go Back" again to return to the initial view of the church.
6. Click on your backpack to open it, and click on the key.
7. When the key appears on the screen, click on the key and the church door will open. Click on the church door to enter.
8. On a ledge just above the "Leave Church" button is a box of matches. Click on the matches and place them in your backpack.
9. Click on the Candelabra, bringing the candles into closeup. 10. Begin by clicking on any candle NEXT TO a corner. Then continue around the perimeter (outside) of the candles, either clockwise or counterclockwise, skipping two candles each time and clicking the third. If it takes you more than four clicks to light all the candles, you're doing something wrong.

Example:

X 1 X X
X X X 2
4 X X X
X X 3 X

11. When all 16 candles are lighted, you will hear a gate creaking. It is the gate to the Rockefeller crypt in the graveyard.
12. Click the "Leave Church" button to go outside, then click on the iron fence to re-enter the graveyard. Click the door of the Rockefeller crypt to enter.
13. You now find yourself an "action figure" avatar in an underground maze, or crypt, with a cell phone message telling you how to move around in the maze. Follow these instructions to move your avatar (after clicking on the cell phone to close it).
14. At the right end of the first passageway you will find a globe. Navigate the globe to the coordinates from the Genworth book in the puzzle room (37N 77W) to obtain your second insurance policy. Place it in your backpack.
15. I am NOT going to give step by step instructions through the crypt maze, but toward the bottom right you will find a lever mechanism. It is very important that you follow the crypt instructions in order.
16. Click on the handle of the lever to pull it. You will hear another door creak open.
17. Click on the chain wrapped around the spool (shaft?) of the lever. Click on the chain to put it in your backpack.

NOTE: Some gamers (including me) have had the chain disappear, rather than end up in their backpack. If this happens to you (apparently a problem with the flash programming), restart the game.

18. Work your way back up the way you came, and head toward the left hand side of the crypt. You'll know you're on the right path when you come to a gap that is too large to jump.
19. In order to jump the large gap, back up as far as you can. Hold down the shift key, while you hit the arrow key to run. As you approach the gap, hit the space bar to jump while running (don't release the shift & arrow keys).

NOTE: The large gap can be very difficult to jump. Some gamers (yes, including me) have failed dozens of times before making it (kind of like snagging the keys in the jail was for some of us). Some gamers have even reported enlisting their children to complete this portion of the challenge for them.

20. After you jump the large gap, work your way down until you see two open doorways. The upper of the two is the door to which you opened the gate with the lever. The doorway below it is actually the doorway through which you entered the crypt, and you will not need to go there again.
21. Enter the upper of the two doorways. You will see a pile of wooden crates. On the floor will be a book. Click on the book and put it in your backpack.
22. Click the "Go Back" button and climb back up through the crypt, and return to the globe. Remove the book from your backpack, and navigate the globe to the coordinates you find in the book.
23. The globe will dissolve, and a truck will drive you to Oil Creek in Titusville, PA. After Laird's speech, click on the cell phone.
24. You will see a truck parked in front of a flatbed rail car carrying barrels of oil. Both are in front of a shed, or cabin.
25. Open your backpack and click on the chain you found in the crypt. When the chain appears on screen, click on it again.
26. The chain should then hitch itself to the back of the truck and haul the flatbed rail car forward, revealing the door to the shed.

NOTE: This has also sometimes been a hitch in the game. Some gamers (again, me included) have had the chain fail to respond, and had to restart the challenge from the very beginning.

27. Click on the door of the shed to open it, then click on the opened door to enter the shed.
28. Click on the drawer of the desk against the far wall. The drawer will slide open, and reveal the artifact.
29. The cell phone will appear and Laird will congratulate you. Remember to click on the cell phone to close it, then click on the artifact and place it in your backpack.
30. Return to the game room, place your puzzle piece appropriately, and submit your guess of the week for the treasure location.

You won't need emergency support until the gull knocks your backpack in the water after you get back from diving. The flashlight is in the red toolbox. When you blow the fog horn, the gull sitting atop it flies away and you can get it out.

When u get all three items in the water, do you have to get back to the boat? I get them all and go back up for air and start to get back to where he started but run out of time or something.

Keep swimming toward the boat, you can come up for air as much as you need to. When you get close enough to the boat, the game will automatically put you back on deck.

I get back to the deck, but I still have nothing that I picked up....or is it somewhere else?

It should be in the net bag. Some people have been talking about glitches, so that could be a problem.

I've tried it like 4 times and everytime i come back up after retrieving the 3 things on the bottom of the water, it just shows an extra pair of goggles in my backpack.. am i just missing something?

"RE: Online Treasure Hunt Challenge #8"
Posted by landfill on 08-07-06 at 11:22 PM
You should have a wallet, boot and doubloon in your net bag. Your backpack will get knocked into the water, and you'll have to go back in to get it out.

Someone on another board had that problem and had to start over. Sorry! Although, as long as you replace your computer and phone, you shouldn't need the stuff to get to the piece. Based on the information on this message board, you could use all of the info to get to the next location.

WOW!!!!!! I can't belive people like YOU!!! R still alive in society!!! How do you live?????????????????????? Did you read the instructions???? can you operate a mouse??????? I'm just wandering cuz no where in there did it say that you had to do the whole damn thing in one breath. Although I'm sure you tried that.......several times. Its people like you that give all of (you("The Stupid People In The World")) a bad name!!!!!!!! I just can't seem to think that you wouldn't come up for air. did you get pissed when you had to go back in the water for the backpack or was that just something that you couldn't comprehend? Probably!!!! you have to go back in the water!!! and you MIGHT have to come up for air(just a suggestion) but any way good luck in the game!! and for life with that matter.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is a card in the wallet that tells you what wallet, but don't use it. I did, and then I got told not to cheat
I had to restart the challenge

Game 5, including where the boat is going, was discussed earlier in the thread. Back during the week that episode aired. It's against guidelines to repeat posts so, yes, you'll have to read the thread for it.

I was trying to figure out the paper cut thing, I folded it, but I can't figure out the code?

"RE: Online Treasure Hunt"

"RE: Online Treasure Hunt"

first is the sun then the arc door looking thing then the shaking hands then the envelope, then the trowel. it should open automatically.

well i put in the code as you say it but i get nuttin.
any suggestions?

"RE: Online Treasure Hunt"
Posted by thalionlhaw on 08-08-06 at 00:23 AM
Yeah, I tried that code a few times before it was actually posted but I didn't get it to open either. Does it matter where you line it up at? Top of the cryptex? Middle? Bottom?

"RE: Online Treasure Hunt"
Posted by Go_Rebs on 08-08-06 at 00:25 AM
Has to be right in the middle

"RE: Online Treasure Hunt"
Posted by thalionlhaw on 08-08-06 at 00:32 AM
Geez Louise...I aligned all of the correct symbols as close to the middle as possible and as in line as possible...and nothing. If I knew how to do a screen shot I'd do it so that somebody could tell me what I'm doing wrong. Oy.

"RE: Online Treasure Hunt"
Posted by Go_Rebs on 08-08-06 at 00:35 AM
I know I tried that sequence at least 10 times before the post and never got it to open. Then all of the sudden I got it aligned just right and it opened. Sorry I can't be more specific.

"RE: Online Treasure Hunt"
Posted by Go_Rebs on 08-08-06 at 00:39 AM
Align them just above where the light is reflecting off of the reels. I went back to it and got it first try.

"RE: Online Treasure Hunt"
Posted by landfill on 08-08-06 at 01:03 AM
I had to spin all of the cylinders in the cryptex, like you would a combination lock. When I did that and lined them up in the middle, it opened. It took me a while.

did you put the door that has a G on it as the second spot? the code is if you look at the star cutout, it is the five symbols that are in entirity going straight down from the top point of the star the the bottom. and make sure they are in an even line.

Arrange your puzzle pieces that you have collected. When you have them correct, a door behind the fireplace will open.

"RE: Online Treasure Hunt"
Posted by FIVEROWS on 08-08-06 at 01:28 AM
hOW DO YOU HAVE THEM ARRANGED?

"RE: Online Treasure Hunt"
Posted by franchise36 on 08-08-06 at 09:58 AM
You can print out the picture and try the origami-type thing,

Close the book, then click the pedestal to zoom in.

Line up the following pictures on the box, from left to right:
Sun, Door With White Pedestal On Bottom (NOTE: NOT the door with the "G" symbol on it), Hands, Envelope, Spade.

These are all Masonic symbols. Therefore the "envelope" is actually a Masonic apron,
and the "spade" is actually a trowel, used by stonemasons for laying mortar

Put all the pieces close to the top then you have to play with the first one.

Click the final clue, and exit the puzzle!
Good luck!
