"The Real Gilligan's Island summaries"

Posted by SurvivorBlows on 11-29-04 at 03:53 PM
Back in the fall summary writer signup thread there was quite a bit of interest for this show, so with it premiering tomorrow, I figured it better to start a signup thread (almost) late rather than never (sorry folks, forgot about it!)

Anyways, I think survivorscott volunteered for the premiere recently (survivorscott, please confirm) but if anyone is interested in other episodes (or interested in the premiere if it turns out survivorscott can't do it), please post your interest below.

Thanks,
SB

I'd like to call Episode #2. I might be able to do the premiere if SurvivorScott can't make it, but I'd rather grab the even numbers this time, as it'll give me a few more hours to figure out how to summary-distinguish the two groups of castaways.

Or two, depending on how you count:

TVG online listed first hour on Tuesday as episode 101, second hour on Tuesday as 102 (combined these are the two-hour premiere). Another episode, 103 (or episode 2), airs Wednesday night.

I would be interested in doing a summary or some tag team if need be. So put my name in the hat!

ETA: If there are going to be 3 episodes this week, I can do one...I am not busy this week!

Ack, as dabo pointed out, TBS is apparently doing a wierd Paradise Hotel-like twice-a-week broadcast thing for this show, that, when combined with the fact the they are also airing Ep2 right after Ep1 and billing it as a Rebel Billionaire-like "two-hour premiere," is going to result in three hours of the show being broadcast on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.

Basically the schedule for the first five episodes is the following:

Episode 1 - Tuesday, November 30 at 8PM ET/PT
Episode 2 - Tuesday, November 30 at 9PM ET/PT
Episode 3 - Wednesday, December 1 at 8PM ET/PT
Episode 4 - Tuesday, December 7 at 8PM ET/PT
Episode 5 - Wednesday, December 8 at 8PM ET/PT

...being TBS, they also tend to repeat the episodes a couple of hours later after Sex In The City

So who wants what?

I can do episode 3, 4 or 5...but if you need someone for episode 1 or 2, I will step up. Let me know where I should summarize and I will!

On-line episode details are nonexistant, at least as far as I was able to find. However, there are some indications that one of the three episodes this week (the first hour) is a background/establishment show which will go into such details as the nationwide talent searches for the castaways.

The hardcopy TVG write-up for the Tuesday broadcast:

Just sit right back and you'll see a tale in which two teams of competing "castaways" try to survive on an island a la the '60s sit-com. Executive producer Mike Fleiss describes the show as an "absurd comedy" with "all the intensity of a reality show," complete with twists, elimination and challenges. In tonight's two-hour opener, the cast is chosen, including a 52-year-old boat skipper from Massachusetts; a rural beauty who bakes pies; a Manhattan professor; a millionaire couple; and L.A. starlets Rachel Hunter and Nicole Eggert. Scott Lasky hosts.

Grid listing 8 PM Eastern:

A reality series based on the 1960s sitcom. First up: The cast is chosen.

9 PM Eastern:

The castaways continue to adjust to island life.

If "Episode 1" is nothing other than a one-hour cast selection thing, then I agree it probably makes sense to just roll it into the 9PM summary of "Episode 2" (they don't even have to be separate summaries, for Rebel Billionaire, Swami just made labelled different sections in the same episode one summary posting -- like we used to do with the "weekly" Big Brother summaries.)

Of course we've yet to hear anything from survivorscott, so I'm not sure if he's planning on handling Episode 1, Episodes 1/2, or nothing at all tonight.

So under this definition, I can get #2 and still have to introduce the cast? (Censored)!

I'll just tape the whole thing tonight. Let me know when y'all work something out.

(I say give SS a 'special two-hour premiere' and be done with it, but that may be because I may have just gotten stuck with another twenty-five pager.)

LOL! I'll try to tape it all this week and stand by as backup, though in all honesty describing a gaggle fo Gilligans trying to out-Gilligan each other really seems more up shakes' alley.

I can do an episode that doesn't come within a week of my Amazing Race summary (12/7). Must be fresh for that one.

I'm suffering from a distinct lack of Jonesing. Who's got Wednesday, then? If it's me, somebody say something?

OK scott has Tuesday's Ep1 and Ep2.

vols or Estee, both of you volunteered for tomorrow's Ep3 -- does next Tuesday's Ep4 also work for either of you? (with maybe dabo interested in next Wednesday's Ep5 and MTW for Tuesday 12/14's Ep6?) Let me know!

Thanks,
SB

S'okay: I'll get tonight. After all, the only thing I'll be missing by taking this one is --

Lost...

...(sigh) Apparently I'm still on this 'excessive suffering equals better random draws' thing.

I'll be happy to do an episode anytime, next Wednesday is fine unless someone else really wants it. And -- whew! -- I'm so glad I was wrong about the first hour.

Checked TVG online, #105 is next Tuesday at 8 EST, #106 is next Tuesday at 9 EST, repeats of both later that night and on Wednesday night.

Argh, this show has the wierdest scheduling!

dabo, can you do Tuesday 12/14's 8PM broadcast of Ep5 and we'll push MTW's summary back an hour to the 12/14 9PM broadcast of Ep6?

I'm shooting for tomorrow night (probably late) for ep 5 summary posting, the first hour shown this week. The second hour was ep 6 according to teh official count.

Drat, I don't suppose anyone was interested in Ep6 (the second hour of last Tuesday's two-hour episode?)

Also, if anyone wants to tackle one or both hours of this coming Tuesday's Ep7/8 two-hour finale, please let me know.

Thanks,
SB

I didn't tape 6. Now that I have posted TAR summary, I would be willing to summarize another one. I know I have already done one episode but if no one else is interested I can step up.

I have 106 on tape, I'll go ahead and do that. It will probably be Monday or maybe Tuesday before I get around to it, and if someone else beats me to it so be it no biggie. Ginger got bounced, by the way.

As for 107/108, I'll pick up 108 if you can do 107. I won't be able to get around to 108 until after Christmas weekend, but I will plan on finishing it up unless someone else wants the honors.

All that said, the editing on this show leaves a lot to be desired.

I am in for 107...you take 108 and we are set!
