Janu is pissed at Katie this week she is gone.

"At Koror"
Posted by PhoenixMons on 04-21-05 at 08:06 PM
Flies are a buzzing, Janu is doing something with her hair, Caryn is marking off the 25th day.

Janu: last night COby was voted off and I was taken by surprise...I have no words, I couldn't even say goodbye to him. I felt betrayed, nobody said a word to me.

Katie and Jenn are talking about Janu.

Katie: last night at TC Janu was sitting there like a jack-in-the-box looking weird thinking she was going ot go home.

Janu overhears..."what are we junior high Katie"

Kaite: "You were being creepy"

Janu: "why don't you tell me to my face...if I had something to say to you I would say it to your face"

Katie: "I've apologized..."

Gregg: "I just don't want it to turn into..."

Janu: you're going to turn it into something because you guys are just going to pick each other off (something like that)

Gregg: "It's kinda of a buzz kill to have her around...I'm not going ot vote someone out because I don't like them...she plays a bigger role in all of our strategies...unlike Stephenie...some people think Steph deserves to be here...I don't care if she deserves it...if you have a role in my strategy then you deserve to be here to help me win a million dollars"

I think Katie is the reason that Ian, Jenn, and Steph did not keep up with the others. .

"First Segment"
Posted by kathliam on 04-21-05 at 08:13 PM
Day 25 - Caryn marking the days off on a tree. Janu is surprised Coby was voted off at last Tribal Council. No one informed Janu how the vote was going. Jenn and Katie are talking about Janu's reaction to Coby. Janu overhears Katie gossiping about her and lays into her. Katie says Janu is being creepy, Janu wants to know why she wouldn't say it to her face. Gregg tries to mediate but Janu talks him down. Gregg says Janu is a buzzkill to have around. He's not going to vote someone out because he doesn't like them, Janu plays a bigger role in his overall strategy.

Reward challenge. Build a tower in the water, randomly divide to 2 teams, transport 6 pieces of scaffolding and a buoy to water and build, after complete one team member climbs to top and captures flag. Winning team attends Palaun feast.

Gregg, Tom, Janu and Caryn vs. Ian, Steph, Jenn and Katie. The scaffolding pieces weigh 30 pounds each. Tom and Gregg are the only ones on their team going underwater to build scaffolding, the other team all 4 members working. Gregg/Tom finish first piece first. GTJC have the lead. Katie slowing down her tribe. Steph encouraging her team to hurry. Janu is struggling. GTJC finished, Janu climbs to top and captures flag. They race to the beach, Janu arrives first. Janu, Gregg, Tom and Caryn win reward.

Janu, Tom, Caryn, Tom win reward, a food feast.

"Reward challenge"
Posted by PhoenixMons on 04-21-05 at 08:13 PM
Steph Ian Katie Jenn
Janu Tom Caryn Gregg

They have to bring pieces of scaffolding into the water (pieces weigh 30 lbs. each) and attach it (underwater) together to build a big contraption so they can retrieve a flag above them. Reward is for a big Palaun feast including beer.

Caryn and Janu letting the rest of their tribe do the work (other tribe all working). Janu goes out to help

Tom's team leading (no really...isn't he superman or something?)

Katie is slowing down her tribe (as Jiffy says)

Tom's team has their third piece on...
Ian's team has their third piece on...

Ian's team making up time

They seem to be prety close

Tom's team seems worn out, but they're getting their fifth piece up

Ian's team gets theirs up

Last piece...

Tom's team in the lead...have ot get the cap on and grab the flag to head back to the beach. Janu climbs to the top to get the flag. Now they have to race back to the beach (Janu gets back first...Tom's team wins reward: A Palaun feast).

Posted by PhoenixMons on 04-21-05 at 08:21 PM
Tom: we've been in Palau now for weeks and weeks and have seen nothing but the wilderness of Palau. This is my opportunity to meet hte people, to be respected by them and then return that respect. It's just a privilege.

Caryn: I've never been in the presence of a real chief. He gave me a beauitful head piece with flowers and he blessed me. I was very moved.

Gregg: It was nice to step outside of the island and experience what Palau is really like

Janu: We sat down a a ltitle table low to the ground...started a procession of epicurian delights.

Caryn: tehre was no talking game stretegy, we left that all at the door

Janu: I think I'm going ot make myself sick...I thought I was going to have an embellism

Gregg: It's kinda disappointing...Janu just couldn't handle the entire thing (others would have enjoyed it) - one guess as to who he's talking about there

They are back at camp talking about the reward.

Caryn: we didn't talk about bringing back food then gregg said not to fill up too much cause they brought back food

Tom: We just came back from this feast...

Katie: Janu said she wanted to just try one more and took another piece of the dessert. Caryn did too, but what are we going to say, get your hands off the food you brought us?

"Tree mail/IC"
Posted by PhoenixMons on 04-21-05 at 08:32 PM
"feeling claustrophobic are you prone to worry
panic during this one you could be the next one on the jury"

they think it's something underwater...

Steph says I definitely need immunity since I'm apparently the strongest girl. Hopefully I can get immunity.

Jiffy: "Today's IC is going to test your ability to remain calm and not panic when everything in your body says otherwise." They will be in a steel cage thing and water will rise around them...they have to hold on to bars above them...whomever stays the longest...

First person to fail will take the ultimate test of fear by being taken to a beach and being abandoned for the night (overnight???) - they'll have fishing gear and water and such but he/she will be alone

Janu is out...Katie and Gregg are laughing for some reason. Jiffy asks how she is with fire, she says she doesn't know she'll find out tonight.

Jiffy's chiding the others saying he doesn't think there's any love lost between Janu and the others...they're crakcing jokes on her like it's open mike...what's he supposed to think

40 minutes into the challenge...the rest are still holding out...

55 minutes, water completely covering ears and creeping up to mouth and eyes...

Caryn's out

Jennis almost underwater...Steph partially under water

Jenn underwater...will she come back up

Katie's out

Jenn still under water

Steph underwater

Ian underwater

Jen and Steph out

Ian back up and still in

Gregg's out

Ian's plugging his nose, Tom is creatinga sort of snorkel with his hands (okay I hate him, but that's smart)

Ian's out

Tom wins (good grief)

Tom is proving to be one of the toughest Survivors ever.

"Third Segment"
Posted by kathliam on 04-21-05 at 08:33 PM
Katie, Tom and Steph gets tree mail. 'Feeling claustrophobic'? Steph thinks is means underwater.

Immunity challenge: to test patience and whether you can overcome fear. Everyone in a spot in the water under a steel grid. As tide comes in there will be less space and less breathing room. First person to bail will be taken to a separate island to live alone for one night. They will be given flint, machete, fishing line, canteen of water.

Ian and Katie start telling jokes. Janu is starting to panic and just like that, she's out. She gets on the platform. Janu admits she hasn't made fire since she arrived, the others are laughing. Jiffy admonishes them that they don't seem to care that Janu can't make fire.

55 minutes, the water is over everyone's ears and almost to their mouths. Caryn drops out. Katie's out. Jenn, Steph and Ian's heads are under water. Ian comes back up but Jenn and Steph are out. Gregg is out. Tom is using his hands to fashion a snorkel, Ian is holding his nose. Ian goes underwater and he's out. Tom wins immunity.

The boat comes and collects Janu and the supplies she is given. Someone, including Janu, will be voted off tonight.

When she was "alone" on the island, there was something that on another show I would have defined as her being "wired." Anyone?

"RE: Flog me if this is repeated, but what was the box under Janu's shirt?"
Posted by kathliam on 04-22-05 at 08:36 AM
Rusty, I noticed that last night too, except I noticed it when Janu was throwing up outside the reward feast, it did look as though a portable mic was attached to her shirt. I didn't notice when she was on the island by herself. Perhaps if someone recorded the show they can check for us.

"The box under Janu's shirt"
Posted by RustytheNail on 04-22-05 at 10:33 AM
I think that's when I noticed it as well, and will take another look this weekend. The miking in general was odd last night - during the Janu/Katie exchange, there were times I could barely hear Katie. After seeing the box under Janu's shirt, I tried to watch for it on other players and almost convinced myself they were filmed from the side in such a way as to obscure their backs. But that's probably Volkswagon bug syndrome - drive a bug, and suddenly notice how many there are on the road.

"Janu's abandonment island"

I don't think I'll be scared as long as we have fire.

It's very hard and frustrating but I don't want to get up...I feel inadequate because I see teh fire come up and then it goes away...it's not working

This is a challenge for me, I needed time away from that camp...not getting along with anybody...it is me against them

And she has fire. A big one.

Yesterday I didn't want to be here...maybe God was telling me jus to hold on a little bit longer...right now I'm the happiest I've been in 26 days because it's all about me and this little island...it's all mine. She's spinning in circles.

The moon, the stars, the water, and my fire...it's all mine

Jeff basically egged Janu on until she quit.

"Fourth Segment"
Posted by kathliam on 04-21-05 at 08:52 PM
Janu arrives at her island. She decides to make fire first, she won't be so scared if she has fire. She's having difficuilty making fire and is getting frustrated. Night falls and she's still trying to start a fire. It's a challenge but she needed time away from that tribe. She finally gets a real barnburner started. Yesterday she didn't want to be here but maybe God is telling her it isn't time for her to leave. She's dancing on the beach under the full moon.

Back at camp, day 27. Tom says the big decision is who is going home tonight. The girls all think it should be Janu, Gregg says that's because they like Stephenie and Gregg thinks he can convince Jenn to vote for Stephenie. Tom isn't happy because he, Ian, Katie and Step are supposed to be final four. They are discussing Janu over Steph, Gregg says Steph is a bigger challenge threat than Janu. She's a strong competitor, she conquered Ulong, they don't want her to come in and conquer Koror. Tom thinks that's the way the wind is blowing, it isn't what he wants, they'll have to wait and see.

Janu returns, she tells them it took her 2-1/2 hours to make fire. They congratulate her on starting fire. She admits she didn't want to return, mocks the hypocrisy of everyone welcoming her back who had been talking bad to her.

Steph feeling uneasy, they all said it would be Janu and Janu wants to go but she's afraid it will be her. No one will talk to her about it.

Tribal Council. The jury comes in. Coby is clean shaven. Jiffy asks Janu about her night alone on the island. She talks about making fire and dancing on the beach. She didn't think the 'good lucks' as she left were sincere. Caryn is shocked.

Tom says it's gamesmanship now, basing their votes how it positions people in the game, not who they like or who makes them laugh. Gregg says anyone who wants to win $1million is a threat to him, it's not about fairness. Steph looks very worried. Why keep Katie? She says she doesn't pose any threat, any challenge threat. Why keep Janu? No reason, vote her off, she's ready to go, they should vote for her. Why keep someone who wants out of the game? Ian says the individual has the right to do that. Stephenie can't understand why someone is still there who doesn't want to be there, and she had fought so hard to stay. Janu says she has received all she needed and is ready to go, Stephenie says fine, but she isn't ready to go.

Steph says it isn't fair they will keep someone who doesn't want to stay rather than someone with so much heart and will. Janu says if she had her way she'd ask the tribe to vote her off and keep Stephenie, no difference between laying down her torch and asking team to vote her off and keep Stephenie. Stephenie says don't do it on my account. Janu says I'm doing it on my own, I am laying down my torch tonight. Jiffy snuffs her torch and Janu will remain and be a member of the jury. He lays Janu's torch on the ground. Coby and Stephenie smile at each other.

"at camp/TC"
Posted by PhoenixMons on 04-21-05 at 08:52 PM
Tom: the big decision we're facing is who's going home tonight. The girls all want Janu off

Gregg says he thinks Steph has the ability to bond with the girls...

Tom says Jenn and Gregg who've since joined them, are adament that Steph goes home.

Tom: at what point does Janu go?

Gregg: next.

Tom: why not now if it's going to be next week anywhere...

Ian: well we know they have to go...

Gregg is concerned about Steph surviving 11 TCs in a row...she's a competitor she's got a strong will...Stephanie's story has been continuing...Steph conquers Ulong, then conquers Koror.

Ian: I love her to death, I'm really going to miss her

Tom: as things seem now, Steph appears to be going home now. It's not where my heart is but anything can happen

Janu is back...they're congratulating her on getting fire.

Janu sais it was a full circle for her...had time to ge by herself and that was good...Steph's being really nice ot her.

Janu (confessional) to be honest I didn't want to come back...the same people who were being nice were the ones saying she was creating anomisity

Katie and Jenn gossping again.

Steph says we all agreed it was Janu tonight but for some reason I thought it was going to be me.

Steph's talking to Ian (with Tom and Gregg right there, it appears)asks if ...says she thinks it's her.

Steph says it almost seems like no one wants to talk about is so she's really nervous.

At TC:

Jiffy to Janu: let's talk about your night alone...

Janu: I did great, got my fire going, did a little dance...it was a big acomplisment...in the morning the sun rose and it was a whole new day.

Jiffy: as you left in your boat, everybody waved and said goodbye, did you buy it

Janu: honestly.........no. I think half was real the other half was playing the game.

Caryn says she shocked that Janu took it that way.

Tom: It's all gamesmanship now...nobody's voting based on who they like or who makes me laugh...everyone's voting on

Gregg: it's not a question of worthiness...you want someone in the game who's not going to try over someone who's trying

Jiffy why keep Katie:

Jiffy to Janu: why keep you?

Janu: I wouldn't, I have no reason to be here...

Ian: if you feel like you want out, there's no one keeping you here.

Steph: it's nothing against Janu...it kills me...someone who could care less if they're even here...and here I am I'd kill to be here.

Janu: I've received what I needed

Steph: if someone asked me to vote them out I'd be like "see ya".

Jiffy: you feel like your in the hot seat tonight?

Steph: I know I am. I guess I've showed to much heart and too muhc will

Jiffy: is there a dilemma?

Tom: praising steph but saying it's not work, it's survivor

Janu says she'd ask the tribe to vote me out and keep steph in. I'd be willing to lay down my torch so that Steph would have a chance to stay in the game

Steph: not just for me, if she wants ot lay down and quit the game that's fine.

Jiffy: I just wanna be clear, you are on your own quitting this game.

Janu: yes Jeff, I will lay down my torch.

Jiffy's not looking to pleased with another quitter.

Janu per your wishes, this game is over for you...you will return for jury.

Janu: thank you Jeff.

Jeff: Another strange turn of events at TC...Steph you've hung in there a long time, overcome a lot of odds

"WOW"
Posted by CantStandToLook on 04-21-05 at 08:52 PM
Stephanie better start winning some immunity challenges STAT.

I think it was very big of Janu to do what she did and though she did quit, I wouldn't exactly put her in the same class as Osten. She gave her torch so Stephanie can hopefully kick their ##### another day.

"RE: WOW"
Posted by zipperhead on 04-22-05 at 01:08 AM
Was it me, or was Jiffy almost egging Janu on about the whole quitting deal? Janu didn't do too shabby on the RC, so we know she can compete when she's right there in the challenge. And she didn't walk into TC saying "Here's my torch". They had to talk it over for a few minutes before she actually did it. And only after Steph described how badly she wanted to stay in, too.

"Jeff Probst's interference"
Posted by Brownroach on 04-22-05 at 11:18 AM
No it wasn't just you. I really felt Jeff interfered with the game BIG TIME by doing what he did. He usually tries to talk quitters into staying. I can see where he might just be getting tired of people saying they want out, but I don't think he should be trying to put words in contestant's mouths. There *is* a difference between laying down your torch and asking the tribe to vote you out: the tribe might not comply with your wish (remember Shawna).

Janu was prepared to have the tribe vote as usual, and Jeff should have let them, imo.

a quitter has no right to be on the jury.

I have a feeling Greg just tied his own noose with his phrase:
"you want someone in the game who's not going to try over someone who's trying"
and now it's just up to someone to put it up in the tree. God, I hope they're smart enough to see that clue.

Tom and Ian better be paying attention!

This is kind of strange. When Osten quit, I had very little compassion or emotion for him. But now that Janu has quit, it really doesn't bother me. Janu got all she wanted out of the game, and was done. She was fine with that. She didn't have the desire to play Survivor anymore. Why would we want someone playing the game who doesn't want to play anymore?

ETA that I suppose that it was the same case with Osten, so why do I feel different about this? Weird.

Tom and Crew didn't want to grant Janu her wish, so Janu granted it herself. With some baiting from Jeff, of course.

... they have to stop casting weak and stupid players.

It makes for intensely boring TV.

The entire cast full of the most cut throat, athletic, game-savvy, ubercontestants...

It would be glorious to watch them tear each other to shreds.

Uh huh.

I'd probably end up hating them all.

Agree totally, with that sort of cast they wouldn't need gimmicks.

I also wish Janu had had the balls to force them to vote her off rather than quit.

And I also hope Katie's little schoolyard strategy backfires on her.

I think the cattiness of the other Koror women is a big reason Janu quit. Although you'd think having lived and worked in a cutthroat burg like Vegas would have given her a stronger stomach for that crap. Since they kept Janu on the jury even though she Ostened, I hope she lights into Katie bigtime if that little witch makes the final 2, because she sure as hell deserves it. She seriously needs slapped, maybe even punched.

Actually, I can't help but think that if every participant was an excellent player, then we wouldn't know who to root for. It would be like watching an All-Star baseball game, and how many of those have you enjoyed watching?

Plus, the ICs would go on forever. Three hours on a platform would be nothing for those players. They would stand around for six or eight hours. How is that more interesting than watching the weaker players jocky for alliances?

Editing...you were meant to be disgusted by Osten and his powerful body that quit, while they have told us all along that Janu was not well. It was like Jeff had compassion for how sick she had been out there--he was not as disgusted by her as he was Osten. He was angry with Osten.

>It was like Jeff had compassion for how sick she had been out there

Jeff in my opinion, has been out there for 1 too many Survivors and for S10 is influencing the outcome of the game. Janu was completely goaded in the IC and at TC.

You say Jiffy had compassion on Janu? I say he was disgusted by her non-performance.

I'm with Icey, bring on the A team!@!

I'd love to see that TC complete and unedited. One thing Jeff genuinely despises are juvenile antics, like how everyone reacted when Janu lost IC and would be the one exiled. Janu was obviously an outcast within the tribe, and virtually clueless about the game, goading her into quitting may have been the merciful thing to do in Jeff's mind.

"But..."

"RE: But..."
Posted by dabo on 04-21-05 at 11:03 PM
Jeff's question to Janu about whether there was any difference for her between quitting or getting the boot possibly was going too far. I'd really like to see the whole unedited TC, there's a very fine line and it does look that Jeff may have crossed it.

"Jiffy's..."

I completely disagree. I think seeing more of Jiffy's comments is a positive thing this season. We've heard all along that TC lasts longer than we are shown. Jiffy's comments are just being highlighted more, and that's fine with me. Let him ask the hard questions to this bozos.

"Agree"

Jeff didn't force Janu to quit. He can't make her quit. If he asked her a lot of questions about quitting, it was because she clearly had it on her mind. And why shouldn't he ask questions when someone is uncertain?

We're now down to seven. If Katie sticks with Tom and Ian, then Stephenie should make the final four. But it's hard to think that will happen, considering that the old Survivor maxim is that strategies revealed do not succeed.

"RE: Agree"
Posted by FesterFan1 on 04-22-05 at 11:27 AM
No, he didn't "force" her to quit, but he absolutely crossed the line of impartiality. If I were Gregg, Jenn, or Caryn, I'd be furious with Jeff. He definitely influenced the outcome by convincing a player to lay down their torch. That's not his role. Normally I like his tough questions, but he went too far last night.

This wasn't the same situation as Osten. In his case, he had asked his tribe and was going to be voted out anyway. Jeff even asked for a show of hands vote. Last night was not unanimous, and Stephenie very likely would've been voted out had Jeff not interfered by convincing Janu to "quit".

I don't know how Stephenie got to be so special in regards to "strong" players who deserve to stay in the game losing out to clueless sloths like Janu. This happens every season, and Jeff knows that. It's not his job to decide who's worthy or unworthy. Gregg was 100% right in saying that if you are helping me make it to the end, you're "worthy". If things turn out as they are projected, I fully expect him to complain publically. I know I would.

All's fair in love, war and survivor. I thought he asked a legitimate question. She even said on the early show she did it to throw a wrench in Koror's master plan. I also loved the way he called them out for making jokes about her when she quit the rc. I thought laughing at her was cruel and juvenile.

I was suprised at how far Jeff pushed that - yes, he does ask questions to bring things out into the open at TC, and stir things up, but part way through tonight's TC, I said to my other 1/2, "Wow - it appears Jeff is working REALLY hard to keep Steph in the game!"

"RE: Jeff "
Posted by dabo on 04-22-05 at 00:52 AM
It is part of his function to draw everything out of the players at TC that he can, and he's gotten a lot better at that than he was at first; his efforts in S1 to turn TC into a sort of group confessional where anyone could say anything were pretty lame and blatant in that regard, he's much more subtle and adept now.

"RE: Jeff "

It is probably safe to assume that Jeff is aware of alot of what is being said in the camp already so he might be bringing up things that were already discussed, unbeknownst to us. Janu may have already brought up quitting in confessionals but they didn't show us so we would be surprised. That is just my opinion.

An article from the Associated Press in our paper today said Jeff didn't coerce her into laying down her torch, although it may have seemed otherwise. "He aided me," said Tornell. "I was at the point where I thought, "I want to go, but I don't want to jeopardize being part of the jury." I was still battling with "quitter". ..... It goes on to say: Viewers didn't see Tornell's concern about whether she would be on the jury if she quit... After going back and forth for several hours, Tornell said Probst asked for a break in the filming. "The cameras stopped," said Tornell. Tribal council got really heated. You guys didn't get any part of that. (Probst) goes, "This is off the record . What's going on Janu? What are you worried about? And I said, "Basically, I don't want to lose my place in the jury. I don't know where this takes me'." Tornell said Probst left the tribal council area and consulted with producers. (The three players who quit Suvivor in previous seasons departed before juries were formed.) Probst returned and assured Tornell that she wouldn't forfeit her place on the jury by quitting. The cameras started back up and Tornell did just that.

Interesting.

Edited to note - this is already being talked about in Bashers and Fanatics (Cethy the Canadian, Dabo etc)

The problem with Osten was that he was on a losing team and hated losing, so instead of figuring out a way to win, he just quit. He was a loser from day one when he told the girls of his tribe to flash their boobs to men to get money or supplies for the camp. I'd hate to be his boss, you couldn't depend on him to stick in there for the long haul. With Janu, her body is wracked with illness and her spirit has just died away leaving a mind that wants to fight but knows the body can't. Also being on a team that has a 12 year old that spreads rumors <lol> and talks about you behind your back and always has snide remarks, I'd be done too. I don't really think she had the fortitude to go any farther.

Agreed. Janu absolutely made the right choice. I do not look down on her for her decision. Apparently CBS thinks the same. Osten got no final words. Janu did. There was strategy involved, too.

Janu's just cool.
