...to seeing how the producers override the judges and pick their dream house's worth of cultural diversity and potential personality conflict.

I'm guessing tonight's going to be the East and West coast auditions, with the Ten chosen next week. Try to spot the 'interesting' people who would make for decent reality stars, regardless of actual comedic talent! Can you see where the standards are failing before the producers show you directly?

(Regardless, a few decent ones will probably slip through. It's the nature of the beast: the best will make everyone laugh.)

so true, Estee. I just saw the preview during the news and I kept thinking.. I bet not one of these will actually get picked. I am almost certain that it will be just like last year.Only 2 or 3 good comics and bunch of bad ones.

Saw most of it and was fairly pleased. It's going to be interesting to see which of the husband-wife team makes it (if either). They've obviously got some seasoned vets in there, but I don't know if they'll be as sadistic to the newbies as Rich's posse was to Dat last season.

I was pleased to see Kathleen Madigan make the cut. She's headlined at the comedy club here in town before, and I enjoyed her.

Madigan was one of the few I recognized which is in contrast to last year when I recognized many of the contenders. I was also familiar with the guy who moved on from Tampa. I think those were the only two I've seen perform before.

I was also familiar with the guy who moved on from Tampa.

Jim Norton. Former side-kick on Opie & Anthony's radio show.

Now regular on Tough Crowd w/ Colin Quinn. (Several of the chosen from NY have been on his show, including the H/W team - I believe - and Sue Costello.)

MY guess? He went to Tampa instead of auditioning in NY, thinking the talent pool wold be weaker.

As long as we don't have another Dat travesty as we did last year, I'll watch it.

I liked the droll, "operation guy" the best so far. Think he was from the LA audition.

Right now there are too many for me to remember. Maybe after tonight's show I'll have a little better feel for who's funny.

So I guess there are quite a few that people are recognizing. I only know of Will Durst, he's a local (SF) guy that I thought already was pretty well known and successful. He's the only one I've heard of though. Oh, and Ant, but only because he auditioned last year.

I agree. I was wondering if the old man with the "cigarette voice" from Chicago would make it to the house, I really didn't think he was that funny based on what I saw. The two guys that really made me laugh, basically for the way they delivered their joke's, were the young Russian guy from SF and the they call it Pop not soda in Chicago guy from NY.

Wasn't the previous winner supposed to get a development deal with NBC? Does anyone know what Dat is doing since he won?

Dat appeared during the first few minutes of the show and said he'd just wrapped up a West Wing appearance. I'm guessing he's the new Secretary of the Desk Interior.

Thanks, I actually didn't realize the show was on until I flipped over to NBC about 10 minutes after 8 so I missed DAT.

No wonder I enjoyed it so much - I missed Dat's part.

I thought Will Durst's comments about his buddy Dave Mordal were interesting - commenting on how the show had been good for Dave not just from a career standpoint, but from the personal side as well. As a Mordal fan, I was glad to hear a friend say the show had affected him so positively.

I guess that is his guest appearance on a NBC show. Now where is that pilot or did it get dumped by the execs of NBC.

There were definitely a few that I went "Huh?" when they announced them, but I wasn't thinking of the "drama in the house" part. Now it makes sense.

Did anyone see the TV show Sue Costello used to have?

I realize there are producers who are concerner about the house chemistry and which combination is going to make the best TV show..... but they really really should have let the pseudo-judges know that they were really just panel seat warmers right up front. I still wouldn't agree with it, but if they had known upfront, then their surprise and the mini spoiler in the article wouldn't have been necessary.

it's bit of a bummer - for me anyway
