"I just love Iyanla"

I have watched the Starting Over show since it started. I
have always liked the show but when Iyanla came on for
this season, it made me want to never miss the show--I
didn't want to miss anything that she did or said. She has
such insight and wisdom. I have written in my journal some
of the wonderful things that she has said to the housemates.

I hope the rumor that she will not be on the show next
season, is just that--a rumor. If the producers don't
do something about getting "crybaby' off the show
AND Iyanla to stay on the show, I won't be watching
much longer.

Her words have on many occasions have given me insight to
know what to do concerning some things in my life. I love
the spirituality that she brings to the show.

I agree with you, she is amazing. I didn't really know of her when she first came on board, other than she had a failed talk show. I love how she can be harsh and nurturing at the same time. I want her to adopt me! LOL

I must also say, I'm glad to see a possitive post on here. I'm a little dismayed by all the SO bashing I see. I have to wonder, if the bashing posters are really that unhappy with the show, why do they keep watching?

I have read one of Iyanla's book "I cried yesterday" and am glad I did , she has gone through a lot in her life and the way she shows love and compassion is such a gift. Does anyone know if she has h er own website like Rhonda?

I think it just got redirected. Google found it at www.innervisionsworldwide.com. The shortcut I used to use no longer works so something changed.

We have an SO Links Compilation Thread, and Iyanla's site is in there.

Talk, talk, it's only talk . . .

That's strange, cause I have also written stuff that Iv has said to the women during talks in my journal! I want to get one (or more) of her books, she seems like a very insightful woman.

May I suggest Stormy Sky that you start with 'Yesterday I Cried'. I am not sure if that is Iyanla's first book or not but it is the book that details her life and all the things she went through. It also, as another poster said, gives great insight to Iyanla and makes it so much easier to understand her approach when she deals with her ladies. It is because in a lot of cases she has lived it.

I love her tough love approach and the way she is not afraid to call someone out when they try to con her or attempt to pull the wool over her eyes. I am not saying that sometimes a house guest may not get one by her, but not usually and not for long.

I think that having grown up and gone through all the things Iyanla went through prepared her for the role she has today in the lives of women who need help.

Thanks, SOfan, I'm going to get on ebay & try to get that book! I agree about IV's tough love. She knows when someone's trying to pull one over on her. Love the looks she gives them.

I really like Iyanla also. I got hooked on her when she use to appear on Oprah man years ago. I think she did a weely segment. I have read most of Iyanla books which also have helped me greatly. I do hope she returns next season.

I agree. Iyanla brings a certain spirituality to the showwhich I feel is much needed. One of the reasons these women seem to be taking so long to graduate is that they have no spiritual foundation from which to draw. People believe that they can heal on their own, but it isn't true.

If we really could do stuff, difficult stuff on our own, most of us wouldn't be so miserable and lost. I am not talking about religion here. I think you probably understand what I mean.

Anyway, it was nice to hear someone coming from a more positive stance.

She has been on the last two session's. And I did not here she might leave the show...Please she is so good and like you said she has some much spirit...She come to my house and help me since I neve heard back from the show as I sent in a tape of my life..Of course they only give you up to 10 mins to go over you life . I need alot more then that...I have learned so much from the show's. I have watched the show from the beginning and will keep watching it til the end.
When are they going to go back to the show and not repeats. I want to know what happen's at graduation.
And I think all the coaches and the Dr are all great. They know there stuff. I wish in real life we could all get help from people like them.

I don't like her at all. Her "spiritualism" is a fake for healing yourself. What she seems to embrace is any kind of fad that seems to look spiritual. Some of what she says is just plain old common sense cloaked in a bunch of spiritual mumbo jumbo. Everything else is just plain mumbo jumbo - like "shout to the universe" - WHAT does that mean and what does it accomplish. Take a look at Allisham and you have your answer.

I don't like her at all either. I think she is too ego driven. I feel like she does what she does for her own glorification...and P.R. The way she promotes all her cohorts and friends as "experts" to get them on the show is shameless. She gives special attention to her favorites like Allison not because it is good for them but because it is good for her. I think she needs to retire from the SO house since she obviously isn't fully into it (where has she been lately?) and focus on her career as a spiritual guru instead.

Actually, yes I do.

1. Grief counseling because she lost something very precious. Going to a cancer survivor support group would help in this healing process.

2. Debt counseling instead of being encouraged to "live large" - whatever THAT means.

3. Money management training in order to avoid future debt. Maybe learning to make small, safe investments.

4. Getting a real job rather than a scholarship to a fake university so she can learn how to hand out fake life coaching.

5. Go to Weight Watchers and learn how to eat healthy.

6. AA or ALANON for her issues with alcohol abuse - her's and her family's.

7. Church for a real spiritual center.

8. Learning that it is okay to serve other people selflessly. Allison's service to others was self-serving.

Gosh, I could go on but maybe you get my point.

For all the bashing, Allison is a lovely person with a good heart and I think Iyanla only contributed to her problems. They finally let her graduate just to get her out of the house.

point very well taken. should not of been so insensitive, considering my Mom just passed away a year ago almost to the day, from cancer and yes after reading that I do have more compassion for alli. but I still like Iyalana she is not for everybody how about we just agree to disagree?

Agreed. I'm very sorry to hear about your mom. I lost my dad a few years ago (not to cancer) and I still miss him.

I guess my point really is that Iyanla makes everything so complicated. I was raised with a "buck up and move on" sort of mentality. While I know that sometimes that is much easier said than done it has been very helpful to me in not wallowing in my own self-pity.

I think Judge Judy would make a GREAT life coach! LOL! Here's her philosophy-

KISS

Keep It Simple Stupid

And please note that Stupid is all encompassing - including me

Thanks, and I agree Judge Judy and throw a little Joe Brown in just for sh*t and giggles
the one who i think can go over the top too is Rhonda.
