"Pala Ferry"

Haven't seen this anywhere so I hope I'm not duplicating anything. As Sun, Jin and Sayid were leaving the boat, there was a quick flash to the harbor and a sign that said "Pala Ferry" (I think it was Ferry). Anyway, I looked up Pala and found it is central to an Aldous Huxley novel called "Island" from 1962. It was written after "Brave New World" and the description sounds like it is an anti-Brave New World. It's the story of a shipwrecked journalist who finds a society blended by the original Palanese inhabitants who are of a Buddhist tradition and the descendents of a Scottish secular humanist doctor shipwrecked in the 19th century. Wikipedia is a good source of information on "Island". I've never read the book, but reading the synopsis in Wikipedia makes me think that the writers have. Very interesting.

Good find cabmom. Hubby swore he saw a sign on the dock, but we missed it.

I found another good site about the themes of the novel, here:

cheers.

Fascinating. I agree, this sounds like the inspiration for LOST.
