OK, I'm jumping the gun here, but the end of All-Star is in sight and I have seen nary a word on the new series. Does anyone have any info on the when and wheres? I'm guessing that they will begin shooting in the next 30-45 days if form holds.

Any info? Please lock if this is a duplicate and I just missed the other one.

Take this with a grain of salt, and I confess, I have NO source...

I'm fearing that this will be the last season. If they want to go out on top, this would be the way to do it. It's also the year of the finales: Friends, Sex and the City, Frazier. It seems that ending a succesful TV run it the "in" thing to do right now.

I also heard a couple months back (and no, I can't remember where) but that the producers, namely Mark Burnette and Jeff Probst, were really getting worn out doing the show. Traveling for weeks at a time, being a way from family for long periods of time. I mean (if you count PI twice) they have been to eight countries in three and a half years (Borneo filmed spring of '00 and All stars filmed Fall of '03) and you know they spend far more than the 7 weeks the contestants do in these countries.

I hope I'm wrong, but I think the end is near.

You're wrong. After being emboldened by Apprentice's early success, Burnett made a "maybe we'll end it now" comment during a CBS press tour in February -- and immediately thereafter (I think it was the next morning) CBS and Burnett announced a deal for S9 and S10. Keep in mind the comment came after they had already finished taking apps for S9 in January -- it was nothing more than a negotiating tactic on Burnett's part.

Survivor's going nowhere, especially not after waiting three and a half years for Friends to end and have the Thursday time period to itself (assuming of course that the new Joey tanks... or at least isn't a Friends-like hit)

According to a recent USA Today story, Survivor 9 will be filmed later this summer after Apprentice 2 wraps. Then (my guess) is that it's probably Apprentice 3 and Survivor 10 filling Burnett's fall filming plate with The Contender probably taking up most of his time in Early 2005... then Contender will be over by May 2005 Sweeps and he repeat the whole sequence all over again -- assuming NBC and CBS still want to keep their dueling reality banjos going... which given they are two of the Top 10 shows on TV and both air on cash cow Thursday nights, is more than likely to happen.

"MB no longer that involved?"
Posted by AZ_Leo on 05-10-04 at 05:07 PM
His name may still be on it but I don't think MB is all that involved in Survivor any more (other than cashing the check he gets from it). According to these comments by JP I saw on Survivorfever.net (sorry about the language) not only isn't he around much but he took off with a lot of the original crew:

Question: Was Mark Burnett able to be as involved in All Stars as he was in the past? Was he more involved in The Apprentice. Did that have any impact in the storytelling or editing of All Stars?
Jeff Probst: From day one Mark told us that his goal was to build this team so the show could run itself. That's what he's done. Storytelling doesn't dip at all whether Burnett is there or not. He's taught us how to do that storytelling. We are an extension of him... not that we are a cult. The people that run The Apprentice, Casino, The Restaurant, The Contender, they all came from the Survivor family. It spawned this way of storytelling that is bigger than Mark himself. We all get it. He has definitely groomed us. If Mark were still out there after 8 seasons on a daily basis, micro-managing, we have a major problem. Is he on location as much as he was the first season? No. He's a frickin empire. He's not out there all the time, he doesn't have to be. He's a cell phone call away. We know how Mark thinks. Now it's how I think. If Mark is not on location he will defer to us. I'm the last #####-kisser. I will tell you exactly what I think. I talked to Burnett yesterday, I was reminded the guy gets it, he ##### gets storytelling. That's why The Apprentice works and why The Contender will probably be big. Burnett is behind them. The only problem we have is keeping the talent pool up with each show he steals more people from the original Survivor team.

MB didn't even bother to show up to hand over the check to Amber on the Early Show like he did for all the past seasons.

This may explain some of what was wrong with this season and doesn't bode well for S9.

The poster inadvertantly mentioned Survior 10 instead of Survivor 9 so that thread was locked.

Maybe discussion of the topic will progress further on this thread.

I'm bumping because YES, I am a DAW, but also because it is now a lot more pertinent...

Jiffie said they'd reveal S9's location Thursday sometime during the awarding of the second million, so that much will be settled soon enough. And the applications for S10 are being taken now.

(I'm waiting for Survivor: Day Spa.)

>> (I'm waiting for Survivor: Spa Day)

wasn't that Paradise Hotel or Forever Eden?

What we really need is more reality shows that pit players from various other reality shows against each other. Imagine Alicia (Survivor) and Toni (PH and Love Cruise) having a "heart to heart"? Now that would be worth a million dollars!

Maybe MB with join with Oprah and produce the Amber - Rob A-S-S wedding ??????

Maybe Ramber will give MB the idea for the next big twist: The Final 2 have to get married after the show is over. No matter what sex they are. That would shake the game up.

Of course, then he'd have to cast only single or divorced or widowed people...

LOL! Given Brian's past, I'm sure he's enacted a similar scene before. But redneck Clay? Probably not.

Survivor 9 is rumored to be in Vanuatu, a chain of islands near Australia. Burnett has signed on through Survivor 10 with CBS, but Jeff P. has signed on through Survivor 12. Whether or not Burnett will helm S11 and S12 remains to be seen.

"Moso Island"
Posted by tribephyl on 05-13-04 at 03:32 AM

DanBollinger, the trusted Survivor location breaker, and webmaster of Survivor Maps has received a tip that the location is confirmed for S9.

Vanuatu, a chain of 80+ islands, west of Fiji and east of Australia.
Most filming should take place on Moso Island.
The production camp will probably be on Efate Island, the bigger more populated island.

Dan also mentions at Sucks (page 19) that production should commence on Monday, May 15.

To me it seems a bit of a close-call for JP. To do the 2 finale shows, then turn right around and start the new season. But, Dan is the man.
