"News/Articles Season 2"

I figured I'd go ahead and start an actual News thread where we can put any articles we find relating to Season 2.

I found this on tvtome.com

Show News
April 21, 2004

Casting Calls for Alts & Guests are now over, and season 2 is to premiere on March 4th 2005 (can't wait)

April 19, 2004

Apparently, SCIFI is now having casting for new Alts, which means there will be a season 2 of Mad Mad House! Rumor has it 2 of the alts (both males) are a warlock, and a necromancer

Also on the Scifi message boards there was mention of John Edwards being an episode one guest. Supposedly they start filming Season 2 at the end of May.

Okay... there is such a thing as positive necromancy, although you'll mostly find it in the odder corners of fiction. Since the Alt lifestyles from the first season qualified as 'but we're nice people, really', I don't think we're going to get a zombie raiser. As long as he doesn't come out wearing Diablo II armor, I'll give him a chance.

Still -- necromancy... Think they're aiming for shock value again?

I don't mean to ask a stupid question but what is necromancy? Does it relate to awakening the dead? I know necro relates to dead and you referred to Zombies, so am I close?

Well I have to admit to needing to look up the meaning of necromancy. This is what I found:
The act of conjuring the spirits of the dead for divining purposes is known as necromancy. This is not the same as the conjuration of demons or devils in order to do one's bidding or cast spells. It is instead, the seeking of communication with those spirits who have passed into another plane of existence, since they will have access to information that is not readily available in this realm.

So this would fit with either John Edwards doing the whole season or at least making a guest shot and then handing it off to someone else.

I know that in some cases necromancy has taken to mean the actual raising of the dead, but I think in the context of MMH they'll be using the "talking to the dead" as the Alt life.

Hmmm...

(nods) What I was thinking is that the average American's perception of a necromancer -- insofar as they have one -- is of someone who goes around looting graves, hiding their hearts inside jars, and binding souls to rotting vessels. In other words, a lot of horror movie cliches with a little resurrectionist thrown in. Thank you very much, popular fiction.

So people are going to go in expecting to find little bits of dropped flesh littering the hallways, and they're going to get a Victorian spiritualist. 'Knock three times on the table if you want me...'

As usual, Thanks Misto. I wouldn't mind them talking to the dead either but would find it more interesting if they did leave behind the gooey ectoplasm stuff. That would be a good ritual. See who could last the longest in a pool of gooey ectoplasm stuff.

That little box under the 'Compose Message' thing that says check here if you want to get an email when new messages are posted to this thread.

Rarely, rarely do I do that--but I would hate to miss any update on MMH2 or MMH2 plans. I thought this show was original & great fun!

I check-marked my last post on the CUPID forum, and low & behold a few weeks after the show was over--Laura Reston posted to it! What a hoot! (Did I just say "hoot" LOL!?) It got the odd post for months after the show was over.

Thanks for finding info & starting a Season 2 thread, Misto!

I found a few links to be very interesting, but still not much more info than Misto first posted:

From Morticia's Morgue:

Mad Mad House Finale

What else, oh yes, the finale of Mad Mad House was last night. Two hours of sitting on the couch, I really was in suspense and kind of wanted both girls to win. I really thought Nichole would win, but they picked Jamie, who finally won her first trial. I thought it was terribly unfair that Eric got to add an extra rock to Nichole in the hanging trial, though, like he wouldn't pick her. And she stayed up for like another hour, to her credit. I was glad Eric didn't win, though, all he did was badmouth Nichole the whole time he was there, which was hardly sporting, and she never said a bad word about anyone, even though she was constantly chattering away.

I don't watch reality shows, but I will watch Season Two when it comes around. This season was so awe-inspiring, lots of healthy eating, love and self care, meditation and inner self-seeking, next season looks like it's going to be Mean Mean World. The Alts tenatively scheduled are: a necromancer, a martial arts expert, a dominatrix, a kemet and a warlock. Now I knew about the necromancer because that's what they asked me about and I gave them a referral. The dominatrix should be fun, and someone seriously into Eastern studies/martial arts disciplines could be very interesting (anyone see Kill Bill 2?). Read that a kemet is something to do with Egyptian cat worship (?), but a warlock? Who calls themselves that? A male witch is a witch. Perhaps they mean someone into Ceremonial Magick, or someone really into the black arts. Or maybe a Satanist? Can they do that on TV in this conservative decade? Now, I know a Satanist doesn't actually worship Satan (really, they worship themselves), just as witches don't worship Satan (we don't believe he even exists), but the general public doesn't.

Who knows... But if the Christian contestants were uncomfortable with Fiona's white magic rituals, what are they going to do with a necromancer and a warlock? I know people that compete on reality shows have no shame and usually are kind of low on the moral scale, but hopefully they can find another group of ultra-conservative folks for season two. They need to come back to Texas, you can't swing a stick here without hitting a bunch of conservative church-types.

But I'm still a little disappointed that Jamie won. Yes, she said she'd give up her job as a stripper, who wouldn't for $100,000? She and Noel were the neediest of the money, but Nichole did seem to work the hardest, especially with everyone else against her. I liked Bonnie the best, but she came into the game with a curious open mind and a big heart, so of course she was eliminated early. Out of all the guests on the show she was the only one I could really relate to.

Oh, FYI, The Vampire Don.com is up and running, very nicely done, looks like a lot of the goth/vampire sites out there. I still can't believe he could even hold a bowling ball with those nails...

And from Silent Lucidity:

We need one more (non-voting) Alt: a holistic healer. Sounds like they're going to need it.

(Martial arts expert? Dominatrix? Should be plenty of bandages on hand.)

Maybe this is why they need a necromancer. If any one gets accidently killed, necromancer can raise 'em up again!

That's why I like you swami. You think like a Virgo. Logical and streamlined! More bang for the buck!
