SO far, so good. Tom is cute, Tim is not. They've already brought in a virgin 15 minutes into the show and teased that Agassi is coming for a visit.

I did chuckle at their chubby dog.

Btw Kim... we might not have gotten MB to film Survivor in HDTV yet, but he did film Casino in HDTV... making it the first HDTV reality show ever (although I'm assuming that Mark Cuban's The Benefactor, airing this fall, will be a close second -- after all, Cuban did found the HDNet satellite channel -- all HDTV programming, all the time)

Too bad the image quality seems slightly disappointing...

I noticed that the quality seemed sort of flat or something. I just chalked it up to the lighting in the place.

What did you think of the show?

I enjoyed the show. I like their idea of transforming it into an old-school casino. That theme is no different that doing New York New York or the Luxor. Good luck to 'em.

Is it me or did some of the scenes feel a little forced?

Next week's characters seem similar to this week. We have the hard core gambler (similar to the tall guy), we have the sex freaks (similar to the Frat Pack), and we'll probably have an employee issue similar to Jon Stevens.

I'll watch!

Especially the scene where Joe the head entertainment guy was telling Matt Dusk(heh) to let the Lt. Governor sing. Bad acting. It is like they missed the original and told them to do it again with less emotion.

The lighting was bad in most of the scenes, I'm not sure what the deal was with that, maybe there some gaming laws or something against the use of camera spotlights. It did look very flat and "washed out" much of the time

>What did you think of the show?

To be honest, I'm thinking The Casino isn't going to be my thing. Compared to The Restaurant, give me The Restaurant any day (and I'm not even a huge Restaurant fan.) The Frat Pack storyline held no interest for me, nor did the obnoxious fiance -- I mean gambler (even the "she's a man" payoff was weak.) The most interesting thing was the staged drama with young punk Matt Dusk (who reminds me of Corey Feldman)

I just hope it gets better from here, because HDTV or not, I found myself switching to NBC's For Love Or Money about 20 minutes into Casino and recorded the rest of Casino to watch later... and that's never happened with me and a Burnett show before. But of course that just means that there's generally lots of fodder for the summary bonfire!

I liked the show. The only story I did not find that great was the Frat Party. I loved the Chuck story!

Will they be following the same people every week or highlighting different employees and guests each week?

I did enjoy the show, but I hope they don't focus too much on sleazy customers, and show us more how the business works, and maybe a little more gambling.

For the most part, I really liked the show.

I gotta agree with Elroy though. The scenes not only seemed a little forced - they seemed a lot forced. The same three women were at the frat party, out hamming it up with the card counter a few minutes later, then back at the party. Hmmmm.

I like the excitement of the survelance room and casino bosses trying to follow the card counter the best. I also liked the storyline of the young singer trying to bring his vision of old school Vegas to the showroom. I hope this doesn't become a show about corrupting virgins and swingers clubs. I want to see more of the casino operations.

I noticed the same 3 women too. And the fact they were filming the high roller at the airport and arriving at the hotel seemed kind of set up to me. These reality shows are getting more and more scripted.

As mentioned above i enjoyed the three women who not only were at the frat party but with the card counter at the same time.....If only they could shove a broom up their a$$ they could sweep the floor too!.

What happened with the card counter and the drag queen. I mean they cut as he was about to kiss him and then they showed him yelling something at him from upstairs then he was back in the casino with everyone making fun of him.......what happened between the kiss and him showing up at the 21 table again? How did he not know she was a he?(I know this happens on Jerry Springer, but....)

You'll have to use your imagination as to what happened after the kiss, but the scene with him upstairs was hardly yelling -- he was cooing something to her/him about loving "that deep, sexy voice of yours" or something like that, LOL

Basically it was a clip showing how completely clueless Mr. Big Gambler was even after the bathroom encounter...

Is this really a REALITY show? I mean why were the cameras waiting for the card counter at the airport? The show seems totally staged and I didn't really enjoy it.

The show is definitely quasi-reality -- it looks like every one of these "Big Roller" or "Frat Pack" subplots are going to be folks who simply left where ever they came from knowing they'd be getting filmed for a reality show when they arrived in Vegas.

What Burnett did with The Casino is similar to what he did with The Restaurant -- run ads and casting calls looking for people who were "going to Vegas" (of course, Burnett was paying the airfare, so who's to say any of these folks were "going" to Vegas otherwise) during the filming period and felt they might make interesting TV (The Restaurant did a similar thing, looking for people who were interested in proposing, celebrating a big promotion, etc., but then the behind-the-scenes stories proved more interesting than these dumb patron stories so its focus changed.)

Here's a January casting call:

http://www.realitytvworld.com/index/articles/story.php?s=2203

The frat pack was a fairly obvious example of this -- none of these guys would have been in Vegas otherwise, one of them musta just seen the ad and figured he could talk his virgin friend into letting them exploit him for a free trip to Vegas. Heck, if the guy didn't act so damn ackward, I might even wonder if he was really a virgin or if even that fake was just a ruse to get a free trip

To me, it doesn't seem "real" enough for me. I'm betting Big Chuck was invited by ol Mark Burnett to come to the Nugget. Why else would he let cameras follow him around to the suite?

The frat story was stupid, IMO. I could care less about this frat boys from who-knows-where. Shows how much of a plotline MB has going so far, if they're going to spend a third of the episode on people we're never going to see again.

Of course, they might just be "Vegas flavor" for the show. Establish a sleazy atmosphere, right? I could be watching BETTER sleaziness on MTV.

Rating: 5
A painfully average show.

The opening credits seemed to drag on and on and on...

First, I have a gambling problem. Second, I to have almost slept with a transsexual--a surprise like that will easily liberate you from binge drinking (picking up women these days you don’t need your wits impaired--look they can remove Adam-apples). And three, I was a croupier for three years. So, I believe I can give a professionally review of this show.

This show was the most stage piece of craps (like the table. Ha!) I have ever seen. This is not reality; this is a restaged event with time-laps and continuity problems.

I won’t comment on the casting of the frat pack or the one note plot of the singer. I will comment on the rich, high profile animated card-counter. Here’s my educated deliberation. A guy can’t sit down at ##### table and get a count going even if the deck is looking at +13, your going to need someone spotting the deck to tip you and I didn’t see anybody in security looking for that. Card counter these days is commonplace it‘s almost badge of honour for a Casino to caught you counting, and we are talking about math teachers and M.I.T. students here, but drama the owners where almost busting a nut over this one sexually frustrated “professionally” gambler. Don’t they have pit bosses? Who in the hell would have a camera crew follow them around if they where trying to do some serious gambling? And don’t even get me started on splitting nines.

Was it entertaining? It could have been. Take a camera follow some high-class call girl around for a day. Hold auditions for a new adult sex show. Film someone losing a ##### load of money. Show some old security taps of card cheating. And this show never had enough sluty Las Vegas women, more sluty Vegas women corrupting young men who knew that he should have stay away from the Caribbean Stud and never have trusted that beautiful women with the big hairy hands who bought me I mean him a drink...

Of course you're entitled to your opinion of the show, but give a professional review? I think you can do that ONLY if you slept with the transsexual...professionally.

I gave it a shot, hoping again and again that it was going to get better. What a bad show. The new owners are not good-looking or entertaining, the lounge act is a joke and the story lines were so completely staged that I began to laugh out loud while looking for an Alan Funt look-alike to jump out from the pit at any time.

The staged storylines really turned me off. The "pro gambler" bothered me the most. First, I had always thought the professional card counter-gamblers tried to keep a very low profile. Casinos can ban them for life. What professional gambler would let cameras follow him from the airport? And if he was really a professional gambler, could the show and /or the owners of the Nugget get in some sort of trouble with the gaming commission for bringing a known card -counter to Vegas and putting him up in a suite? I know the casinos don't much like those guys, but how does the gaming commission view them?

I think that guy had to be an actor. They probably gave him a bunch of money to gamble with and only filmed when he won a hand.

A) It can only get better
B) If it doesn't, this stuff is prime for a great summary for many writers.

I didn't see much of this show because I thought it was pretty boring. But regarding the frat party and the winner of whatever contest they were having: The woman who was the "prize" was also on a show called "Single in Las Vegas" (on the WE channel). Coincidence?
