"The Simple Life"

For those of you who haven't heard of this show, it's a new reality show starring Paris Hilton (yes, Hilton Hotel Chain) and Lionel Richie's daughter.

They have taken the two girls out of the lavish lifestyle and placed them on a farm in smalltown Arkansas near Fort Smith.

I live in Fort Smith. I have co-workers who have seen these girls out and about.

I just want to clarify for everyone that no matter what picture is painted on this show, not everyone (not most people) living in Arkansas are toothless, uneducated, inbred hicks. Most of the people living here are like the people everywhere else...maybe a little more hospitable to strangers and maybe there are more churches per capita here than any other place, but we all go to school, to work, drive cars, live in houses with in-door plumbing, and we ditched our six shooters long ago.

Arkansas is a beautiful place and contrary to what may be shown, we have classy, elegant places to visit and dine; we have terrific fall foliage; beautiful lakes and scenery....we even have shopping....not just WalMart either.

Just wanted to clarify that. I'm not sure what the show will portray, but something tells me it won't make the people of Arkansas proud b/c frankly, that just wouldn't be as interesting to viewers at home would it?

Welcome to the boards CheriBomb and thanks for posting that information. Yes, there are jokes about Arkansas (as there are about the South in general). I would hope that most people realize they are just stereotypes and that Arkansas is a decent place as you say. At least I would think so. Again, maybe people will see how beautiful Arkansas is and want to visit. The show might be good for tourism

I've never heard of the show "The Simple Life". Paris Hilton? Not sure if I'd want to watch anything with her in it.

don't worry cheri...even tho i am sure they will "try" to make AK into hicksville...i think the people who are going to be embarassed will be the people who are wealthy and see how pompous we all see THEM....the true colors will be revealed.

i just watched the true hollywood story on the hilton sisters and turns out they are just famous for being famous....kinda boring.

interesting tidbit....did you realize their mom is also sister to the KIM RICHARDS of disney film fame? "escape to witch mountain"....i knew as soon as i saw KYLE being interviewed but funny how they never revealed KIM....but at least that gives paris an "acting gene"...i think Kyle also acted but mainly Kim was famous....

Well I live in town neighboring Altus, where the girls lived for 4 weeks. They went back to California last Friday, a week early. I did see them several times while in town, at the Altus Spring Gala, when they worked Sonic and then again at local HS graduation. Thanksfully there were no cameras at the graduation ceremony.

They did leave a week early as I said. I think they had some problems the second weekend they were here. After quarter nite bowling, where they stayed out past midnight and no cameras were allowed in bowling alley, the girls didn't have a place to work that Friday, there had called my son about coming over to play pool and get on the internet, since they didn't have access to internet where they were. Well it never happened. Something went wrong. Son said something to the effect that they had spent 4 hours on phone and they got in trouble over that. Son said they threated to quit and somehow they had that Saturday off, without cameras. I didn't hear or see much about them after that. Son did get a couple more phone calls but no more time spent with them after that, odd huh?

I am clueless as to how they are going to make anything worth watching from what I heard about their stay, but who knows, editors can work magic.

Howdy,

(Hope I'm doing this right). I was born/raised in Altus. The Arkansas page on my web site is at:
http://home.supernet.com/~tshirley/tom_childhood_in_arkansas.htm

I saw an article saying the show will first air Wed., Aug. 13, 8:30 - 9:00 PM ET. I guess that'd be 7:30 central. Should be interesting, although most of the people I knew when I lived in Altus have died or moved away, so don't know if I'll recognize any local folks who might appear on the show.

As someone that spent time with the girls in Altus, I really liked them. I'm a twenty year old female, and they were a blast! I give them props on being on camera 24/7, I don't think people realize that they were followed EVERYWHERE, plus having to have conversations pretending the camera wasn't there. There was no other vehicle for the girls to drive, they drove their old pickup. The town and the girls never really argued, we were all on camera and under some stress. I won't tell you anything else, don't want to ruin the show. I will tell you though, that Paris and Nicole are nice, down to earth, girls (when they want to be). I miss them both and wish them the best in their future. You'll see me on TV- T

A more realistic series would be one presenting a network that is willing to enforce destructive stereotypes, while promoting mean spirited behavior- just to make a buck. Shame on you FOX!!

But.....They made money off of it, and that's the important thing!

I just wanted to update everyone on Fox's "The Simple Life". Although production wrapped up in late May, rumors have it that the girls have returned to Arkansas for more shooting. I personally have not seen them here, but the camera crew did come into the store I work at. Also, everyone keeps talking about how snobby and rude they are. Well, I had a chance to sit down and have lunch with both of them one day and they were very nice to me. They also did draw some attention though when they yelled at me from across the mall. Anyway, I think this will be a good, funny tv show. TV Guide has already given it 4 stars. Again it premieres on August 13 at 8:30 PM EST.

Thank you CheriBomber. i am also an Arkansan. I was glad to see that our state was finally on tv for something but i was also afraid that they would make us look like stupid hicks (which they probably will) but i agree with you, Arkansas is beautiful and i would not want to live anywhere else. and by the way MollyTV Alaska = AK Arkansas = AR
p.s. GO HOGS!!!!

Well I live in L.A. now and grew up here, but used to live in Fayetteville, the home of the Razorbacks for a bit. I wasn't attending school, just working there for a bit...and let me tell you... I miss Arkansas. For someone who lives out in L.A., the nothingness in AR is too boring at times, but the days are longer and there is a deeper meaning of life and relationships with people when you're there. I hope the show portrays all those beautiful qualities. For those of you that know the area, I hope the girls get a chance to go to Devils Den if they haven't already. Here in L.A., there is nowhere you can drive away to have a bit of quiet time alone. I'll definitely have to check the show out ;) Pig suey!

haye you guys!
I also live in Arkansas. But, I live in Little Rock.
I wish that I would have known about Paris being in town before now. I'm totally in love with her.
I think that she is an awesome person not to mention extremely sexy. I would just like to meet her.
I too hope that the show doesn't show Arkansas in that sterotype way. I would hate that. There are alot of great qualities about the state.
Anyone ever heard of Chuck Dovish on his show Exploring Arkansas?
Anyways, just a couple more days until the show is on air.
Can't wait!

It's a reality show? I haven't cared enough to check out what it was about before, but I assumed it would be another "hard hitting" FOX drama about a single independant woman falling for a couple of douchebags before heading off to lawschool with all her lingere model friends after her parents break up and...you get the picture. But it's not, so maybe it won't suck? (As bad?)

I'm also from the area where the show was filmed. Most of the things the Nicole & Paris did were set up simply to film the girls doing something "unusual". It was for entertainment purposes, so everything was fair game. Just be aware that many of the things they did aren't done at all, even by those from this area. The sad part is the people the camera crew sought out to be on the show. All communities have their less fortunate class, and perhaps Arkansas has a higher percentage than most areas, but those that were chosen to be shown on the show were "the worst of the worst". Not everyone shown was depicted a hick, but when the crew / producer needed someone to reinforce how "hicktown" the area is, they certainly picked out some real dandies. If you watch the show and expect to come to the area to see the same things or same people, expect to be disappointed. It should be interesting for those who live here and those who have never been here.

I can't wait to watch the show tonight! I think Paris and Nicole in a small town environment should be a hoot!

HEY THERE,
I'M FROM N.Y.C.
THIS SHOW DOES SHOW THE MORE COUNTRY LIVING PEOPLE. THEY WANT TO MAKE AS MUCH OF A CONTRAST AS POSSIBLE BETWEEN CITY SEMI-COOL TYPES AND COUNTRY PEOPLE. WHAT THEY SUCCEED IN MOST HERE, IS SHOWING HOW A PERSON LIKE PARIS HILTON WITH MILLIONAIRE FAMILY BREEDING, CAN BE DUMBER THAN ANY FEMALE THAT LIVES ANYWHERE.
EVEN ANNA NICOLE IS SMARTER. DUH, WHAT'S WALMART, DUH, WALLS FOR SALE? IF THAT STUFF IS STAGED TO MAKE HER OUT TO LOOK DUMBER, SHE MUST BE VERY DUMB TO AGREE TO SAYING THAT.
I HOPE THEY PAID HER WITH THE MARRIOTT CHAIN HOTELS, TO AGREE TO EMBARASS HERSELF LIKE THAT.
THAT'S THE LATEST SHOWS.
SEE YALLL!
