"But here is my interpretation. After watching and re-watching the first episode."I'm so jealous, I haven't even been able to watch it for the first time yet. I remember my younger days when I could stay up til 12. Having an infant who wakes up at 3 a.m. really makes you old quick.
Tom said something right before he said (I think, hard to tell!), "This game is for the big boys," that made me say "Hello, key confessional," but I just can't remember what it was. Since I didn't tape, Tuesday's replay will fill in my blank.
i was thinking the "This game's not for the little boys (?) it's for the big boys" was a direct slam at the size of robm's sausage.oops, wrong forum
I had forgotten about this quote from Big Tom, and now it seems Rob C's comment in Eps. 3 is even more relevant.During the RC when he and Alicia (who does not seem too impressed with him) were sent off to find rocks (or something) for the new shelter (while everyone else was actually building the shelter), Rob said something about how it was customary for him to not get to "play with the big boys" or something to that effect.
I'm obviously not sure of his actual words, but there are 2 things lead me to believe that Rob C. does not last long in ASS:
1) Big Tom's statement about Survivor being "a game for the big boys" paired with Rob's statement about not getting to "play with the big boys" AND...
2) the fact that although Rob C. is a terrific comedian and was edited as a HUGE player in 'Survivor: Amazon' because a) he was so darn entertaining and b) he made it to F3, he has not been seen very much at all this season, despite his entertainment value and the popularity he has garnered with fans.
Looks like we have his story in the bag. He's definitely on his way. Not sure if he's next, but he's definitely soon.

This picture appears to show Rupert jumping up and down as Ethan and Rudy smile...given their dire circumstances, fire is probably the only thing that would produce this reaction...this doesn't mean that Saboga is first, just they they appear to finally get fire as well...

that is an interesting observation KB...because history has shown that the tribe that takes the first casualty usually produces the winner...of course, as you say, it doesn't mean Sabotage gets it first, and with 3 tribes, the dynamics are changed somewhat (however, it would make sense for the two smallest tribes to join together to oust the largest, which could lead to a Sabotage winner)

I mentioned the same thing in Bungler's vid cap thread but I'm just not as sure this morning as I was last night. I'd fell more confident if I saw a flame or smoke, of course, but MB wouldn't give us that much. I'd also expect Ethan and Rudy to be a bit more excited as well. They appear to be more amused than happy and relieved. But what else could cause this reaction from Rupe?
Let's go with fire.
Could this image go with that one? Everyone is overjoyed with their fire.Jerri hugs Jenna as they shed tears of joy.
Rupert, Ethan and Rudy are also happy about it.

Ugd, I think that's the best explanation so far.The previews also so Ethan and Rupert with very low spirits...building up to this elation and tears of joy.

"The first tribe, in this game, that gets water and fire, is the tribe that's gonna go the farthest."
Alicia, who said the line, is from... Chapera.
The first tribe shown to get water (though dirty) is... Chapera.
The first tribe to get fire (Immunity Challenge) is... Chapera.
And the spoilers say the tribe that goes far is... Chapera. Can this mean anything?
Just watched the show during lunch and something stuck out during TC. Not a key "confessional" per se, however a key statement. He said something to the effect of "gotta think about my wife and daughter . . . maybe this time I'll do better."
...I thought after watching the show that there was one clear cut favorite for the key confessional award...and so far no one has noted it.I don't know the exact quote offhand, but it was when RobM said something to the effec that "we are the underdogs in this game".
Now, I'm not sure if this was in reference to the whole Shapiro tribe or just in reference to his alliance with Lamber, but either way it fits with the speculated final 2 of Lamber/Robfather.
But, my only concern comes from the long held belief that "strategies revealed do not succeed." How do we jive that long held belief with the admission of the Lamber/Robfather alliance in the very first ep of the show?My one rationalizing thought is that since this is the Allstars edition things are a little changed in terms of story editing. Maybe MB wants us to see that the winner's had their strategy since day one so we'll respect them more when that day comes. Also, with the rumors of our first ever Survivor romance maybe MB wants to milk that storyline as long and as throroughly as he can, therefore why not hint at in the first ep.
Other key confessionals include...
**the obvious future demise of the Rupert/Rudy alliance that will most likely end next ep with Rupert showing his true colors.
**Dique saying that he can start a fire whenever he wants which will play into his smuggling of matches.
personally, i think the sabooboos have all fallen back on their previous game strategies, with the possible exception of jerri (tina hates me stuff aside). jenna l. is still annoyingly verbous.tina tried to make ethan her colby this time, didn't work.
rob m is still playing the take me to final 2 strategy, i think amber should have more going for her than that in order to win at the end. augmented boobies or not.
My one rationalizing thought is that since this is the Allstars edition things are a little changed in terms of story editing. Maybe MB wants us to see that the winner's had their strategy since day one so we'll respect them more when that day comes. Also, with the rumors of our first ever Survivor romance maybe MB wants to milk that storyline as long and as throroughly as he can, therefore why not hint at in the first ep.I think this could be the case. When has an F2 alliance been formed on day 1 and gone all the way to the end? Never.
And there's no reason why MB can't change things up. After 7 Survivors, a lot of viewers have probably figured out that when an alliance is revealed early on, it's always going to tank. Those people are now expecting that Rob/Amber will be toast at some point. They'll be surprised if they actually make it all the way to F2.
To add a little more - if Rob M and Amber truly are the final two, then MB better do a darn good job showing us each week how cleverly they're plotting and how hard they're working. Otherwise I think viewers will throw their hands up in disgust at the final ep.But speaking of revealed alliances -- didn't the Tagi F4 alliance make it all the way? I don't recall how early in the show that one was revealed. And yes, I know the F2 alliances didn't reach the end.
-BbB
Here's another possibility:Rob and Amber could get separated in the reshuffling into two tribes, and have to realign with others temporarily. Some doubt may be introduced (and pointed up in the editing) as to whether they will realign with each other come the merge into one tribe.
BbB, the Tagi alliance was finalized when Sue ditched the discussed girls alliance with Stacey and Kelly in Episode 3. As Stacey got up to grab her torch, she turned toward Sue and said, "You changed your vote." The b!tch that was left off the end of that sentence was understood.
My one rationalizing thought is that since this is the Allstars edition things are a little changed in terms of story editing. Maybe MB wants us to see that the winner's had their strategy since day one so we'll respect them more when that day
comes. Also, with the rumors of our first ever Survivor romance maybe MB wants to milk that storyline as long and as throroughly as he can, therefore why not hint at in the first ep.I concur with the wise spinning head.
The romance has been much hyped and will probably be a huge storyline throughout the show. Of course, so as not to draw the ire (and votes) of the others, Rob4 and Amber will attempt to keep it quiet.
But I'm really, really hoping that we've got it wrong and this is not the F2.
I hate to see the spinning clown head swell, but, in retrospect, it's clear that Burnett wanted to show that the winners had their strategy in place from Day 1 -- and it also seems clear that Burnett didn't know whether Rob or Amber won, so he edited them both as potential winners. So, the key quotes had to be Boston Rob's quotes from E1, "We are the underdogs in this game," and "I'll keep my word no matter what to <Amber>. I trust her, and I don't think she's gonna screw me." So much for strategies revealed do not succeed -- because this strategy was SO open, Burnett had no choice but to reveal it, and it proved to tell the whole story of the game. But we thought it wouldn't work, because we were so conditioned to believe that strategies revealed do not succeed!
In response to Blow by Blow's comment:
if Rob M and Amber truly are the final two, then MB better do a darn good job showing us each week how cleverly they're plotting and how hard they're working.Well, he did. We saw Rob play Lex, Alicia, Tom and Rupert. We saw how Amber was part of the decision-making loop, including quizzing Tom and getting his handshake. We saw both of them debate betraying the other one, but ultimately decide not to do it.
And yes, there had been two Day 1 alliances before that succeeded -- Colby and Tina in S2, and Ethan and Lex in S3 (though they both lost the final IC). The difference was that we didn't know about them until the finale.
Alicia said something about her hot temper will be her undoing in this game. I don't know her exact words, but my "key quote" bell rang when she said it.Finally figured out what "ass key" you were referring to.

I am the new guy on the block. All of these people know each other. Right now I'm just trying to stand back and let all of these egos decide what to do, and I'll be the worker bee. New strategy for a new game. Rupert is an EPMB favorite character
That along with Jerri's quote about changing her strategy caught my attention. Could it be that a new strategy imployed wins the game?Colby:
It's never been done before. No ones ever gone back to play this game twice. It changes the game completely, not from a physical standpoint, but psychologically we know how bad it gets and we know how long this road is. It'll be interesting to see who's up for that. Another EPMB and Jify favorite character.
Those who seem to be struggling with the conditions, more so than the rest could be possible early boots.Alicia:
The first tribe in this game that gets water and fire is the tribe that is gonna go the fartherst. This is the much talked about quote from Alicia. Obviously this is something to keep an eye on.Tom:
This ain't last time, this is this time.
This quote was in reference to sue saying that they couldn't make fire in Borneo so why even try. Another example of how those who adapt to the new game will get along better. Could this be a foreshadowing of a Sue early but.Jerri:
We have been given nothing, and the realization of it has now hit home. No one is gonna come in and save us. We have to save ourselves.
Another quote about players needing to adapt to the situation.Tom:
They're going to have to toughen up a little bit.
This was in reference to the Alicia vs RobM blow up.RobM:
....I'll keep my word no matter what to her. I trust her, and I don't think she's gonna screw me.
RobM talking about his Amber alliance. I know some have latched onto this quote but I think it is another example of EPMB loving irony, especially in reference to a villian such as RobM.Shii Ann:
He is the proto-type for all of us other survivors, so of course everyone wants to take him down. Everyone wants to dethrone the king.
This quote is more interesting to me because of her reference to the proto-type survivor.RobM:
We are the ultimate underdogs
In reference to his tribe Shapiro. Possible foreshadowing?Jenn L:
Nobody out her wants to reward another winner. Sorry guys it's our game now, get the hell off of our playing field.
For the spoiling community this is obvious foreshadowing. EPMB is probably preparing the viewing public of what is going to happen to the former winners. This show had two overridding themes:
1.The conditions are harsher than ever and because we are ASS's we have to step it up. Those who don't step up their game are gone.2.These players all know each other, and because of that new strategies need to be employed to win.

Since this thresd was recently bumped, I thought I'd ask if this considered as one of the key confessionals. Kicking out the winners was the idea of and said by the eventual winner?
bumping up, so this doesn't get lost in the shuffle and can be discussed as the season goes on.
A bird's eye view of your A.S.S.
I think we got a pretty key quote from Rob4 tonight: when he said that Amber might be playing him, and he might be playing Amber, but in the end there can only be one winner. This could foreshadow their showdown in the F2.
Might happen that way at the final 2 but IMHO it will happen before that. Shown alliance advance plans have a habit of never working out in Survivorland. However I have no doubt that Robbfather plays a big part in the outcome of this game by the way he is being edited.
Those same bells went off for me too. I think that is THE key confessional statement.
Surgeon General G.A.W.K.U.R's of OT
I thought the same thing GM and KO! Also Rupert's quote of:
We are little, but mighty caught my attention.
(Didn't he steal that quote from Seabiscuit who got it from Shakespeare?)
A bird's eye view of your A.S.S. RMMW!
This is the second time he has been shown saying that she might be playing him and he might be playing her. He said that in the first episode when discussing how he formed an alliance with her.
Good call! I'd forgotten that. But what makes this jump out all the more this time is the addition of "only one of us can win the million dollars." I don't think he said that in the firs episode.
The thing that stands out to me about the "Key confessional" of each season is how absolutely ironic the statement is once the game is over. For example, with Rich's "write me the check" statement, Rich was truly seen as the guy who probably should have been the first boot. Then he wins the whole game!
Another is when Vee wins S4. Her, Sean, and Rob M were swapped, doomed to be pagonged, and Vee says that a black person can never win this game. The players don't realize at the time how ironic their statement will prove to be.
The one that sticks out from S7 was when Jon says about Sandra that he will never let her win a million dollars. The two of them fought like brother and sister for 38 days (till Jon was finally booted), and then not only does he let her win, but he gives her his jury vote.
I don't know that this post helps us spoil this series, but I think it can eliminate some of the "key confessionals." For example, while I can appreciate Alicia's "winner comes from the first fire and water" statement, there isn't anything ironic about that statement. There needs to be something absurdly ironic to contain that foreshadowing element needed to predict the winner with that key confessional.
Good point.I guess it would be ironic if "this game is for the big boys" and then it's Amber and Jenna at the end.
I'm not a big proponent of the key confessional as I believe there is more to it than the "quote"I did find interesting Ethan saying to Jenna L. about (paraphrasing) being stupid not to take a past winner to the final two. Something there struck me.
But I am also of the few that firmly believe that Rob M. and Amber are not the final two either
> Another is when Vee wins S4. Her, Sean, and Rob M were
> swapped, doomed to be pagonged, and Vee says that a black
> person can never win this game.Actually, in true Vee fashion, she let Sean say that line for her
Thx, ic - I stand corrected!
Rob's had plenty of key quotes. He also said something about, "Put my name on the check," and then he spelled Mariano. I don't remember it exactly (nor do I know how to spell his name), but it was one of the first, if not the first episodes. Also, Alicia provided the Fairplay quote, saying, "I'll never write his (Rob) name down (as the winner)"

To quote DangerKitty's (insert much praise here) summary:'Colby: Jerri hasn’t changed one iota since Australia. I don’t think she’s changed her bikini bottoms, either. Ewww. But that’s okay, because I know that Jerri is not going to win this game.
Oh please oh please oh please do NOT let this be the “Key Confessional.” Oh my god. <click>
Uh-oh.
I wanted to take another look at the key quote disscussion now that we have a hindsight and a better understanding of how things might play out.I have to say that Alicia quote about getting fire is looking like the key quote to me. It was Saboga that got fire first, then gave it to everyone else. That would indicate Jenna or Rupert wins. Of the two, I'd guess Jenna. I think the editing is leaning toward her winning more than Rupert. She was edited as an early target and vulnerable whenever possible. I think her portrayal after being picked last on the 1st merge is telling as well.
We don't realy know who first got fire because of the editing and all. But if I remember correctly, it was Chapera that was shown to have fire first.
I know it's rather late for me to jump in here with a key confessional, what with the game ending this evening, but now that almost all the spoilers are pointing toward a Romber F2, one specific confessional by Rob M. keeps running through my mind.
About half way through this season, there was a confessional wherein he said:"After this is over hopefully Amber and I can be having some fun together, spending my million. Worst case scenario, we'll be spending hers."
If (more like when) things pan out the way the spoilers are indicating and we see a Romber F2 tonight, that, to me, will be the key confessional from this game.

Amber: "I can smell the money."Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. . .

Interestingly enough Rob has already said he will win the million dollars, while Amber said, "I can smell the money." To me this indicates she is close but may not get it, whereas Rob's comment was that the money was his.Heh. Here's hoping.
Fweep
Amber smelling the money while Rob smells his fingers.....mmmmmmm.....finger licking good.

That quote stuck out to me also but the one I think was key was when Rob said something to the effect of..It would be great if I take home the money and the girl
Something like that, its not an exact quote but he did say take home the money and the girl and he did!
"It matters HOW you vote people out" or however it went. A lesson in Rawb's stupidity.
Lex (ep 8 Voting Confessional): "It's really, really easy to leave a win with grace and dignity. But it's much, much harder to lose with that same grace and dignity. Let's see how you do."
hehehe....

He's used to fishing contests; hard to argue with a yardstick or a scale, but then you get to kick back and spin yarns about the ones that got away.
I laugh because Lex is the one that made the comment about Ethan not being able to lose with grace and dignity (Kathy said Ethan threw a fit at camp about getting voted out). Yet who has been the sorest loser out there? LEX! He has shown no class at all in how he finished. He is blaming everyone else for his own stupid mistakes. I'm sure Lex's gut will ache for years to come about this.
