"State of the Spoiling - Volunteers Wanted!!!"

LAST EDITED ON 01-17-04 AT 09:02 PM (EST)

I am looking for volunteers to help with our official State of the Spoiling (SOTS). What's that, you ask?

Well... each week, we will publish a thread that tries to consolidate and refocus all of the spoiling for the week... the goal of the thread is primarily to inform, but it also acts as an index of the active posts in spoilers and encourages focussed discussion of the theories that have surfaced each week.

We are looking for volunteers to put together this thread on a week-by-week basis... the job is a one week commitment, and here's what it entails:

I've found that this can be a mildly time-consuming task... it typically takes me about an hour to summarize and link everything in Spoilers, but may take you more or less time, depending on how organized you are...

I've also found that the best approach is to take notes throughout the week as you read the forum, so that when it's time to post the SOTS, you already have an outline of what's been happening in Spoilers for a week.

Here are a few examples of previous SOTS (yeah... they're all mine... so sue me ):
Survivor 3, Episode 2
Survivor 3, Episode 5 (The Twist)
Survivor 4, Episode 2

If you are interested in volunteering to take on SOTS for a week, please reply to this thread, and indicate any dates that you are not available... also, if you are interested in doing the first episode, please say so, since this one is usually a bit more time consuming. Since we do not know the exact dates for some of the episodes, nor do we know the finale date, nor do we know how many episodes there are, some of these episode dates may change... we'll play this by ear.

E1 - Sun., Feb. 1 - SOTS to be posted Thurs. Jan. 29
E2 - Thurs., Feb. 5 - SOTS to be posted Tues. afternoon, Feb. 3 (or Wednesday morning)
E3 - Feb. 12 - SOTS Tues., Feb. 10
E4 - Feb. 19 - SOTS Tues., Feb. 17
E5 - Feb. 26 - SOTS Tues., Feb. 24
E6 - Mar. 4 - SOTS Tues., Mar. 2
E7 - Mar. 11 - SOTS Tues., Mar. 9
E8 - WEDNESDAY Mar. 17 - SOTS MONDAY, Mar. 15 (Episode on Wed. due to March Madness)
E9 - WEDNESDAY Mar. 24 - SOTS MONDAY, Mar. 22 (Episode on Wed. due to March Madness)
E10 - Apr. 1 - SOTS Tues., Mar. 30
E11 - Apr. 8 - SOTS Tues., Apr. 6
E12 - Apr. 15 - SOTS Tues., Apr. 13
E13 - Apr. 22 - SOTS Tues., Apr. 20
E14 - Apr. 29 - SOTS Tues., Apr. 27
E15?? - May 6 - SOTS Tues., May 4
E16?? - May 13 - SOTS Tues., May 11

Here's the deal: I will leave this thread open for about a week, before beginning to assign SOTS. I will probably assign only the first half of the season at this time, and request additional volunteers later for the second half. (Although if you are interested in doing a SOTS in the second half, sign up now, and you'll still be considered).
People selected to do SOTS will be notified via e-mail with additional information and posting guidelines... the full list of those selected will be posted here, whenever I finally get around to making the selections.

Hi Eee,
Please count me in. I would be willing to do the first one, or any of the others. For the first half of the season my only bad dates as of now are E6/E7 early March. If I am selected to do one for the second half, I would be unavailable somewhere around the 3rd week of April. All other dates are open.

You know me tripoli, I'll do any of them you need. Oh wait, I have to qualify that...I'll be in MN for E3 and E4 so I'd prefer not to do either of them. I can do it in a pinch but I'll be on my sisters computer and I'm not sure I'll be able to check emails as often as I do while at home.

So, yes...count me in for any except E3 or E4.

Count me in. The only one I can't do is Ep.3 (My thesis proposal is due that week, and I'll be freakin' out and wondering why I haven't written more of it by then, and will not have a humorous bone left in my body.)

Hey there, I know, my DAW is like 2 or something (okay maybe its its closer to 35) but I have been coming here and lurking since like, well, relatively close to forever. I'd love the opportunity to do a SOTS - how groovy-funky-cool would *that* be?!? So anyway, yah, I'm throwin my perverbial hat into the ring and offering my services up for the group.

Oh yeah, for qualifications, I am a published poet, and I recently received 2nd place in a Halloween Writer's contest (I can furnish evidence of my writing ability upon request is basically what I'm saying LOL) I'll understand if you pass me up tho. As for dates, I'm pretty good for any of the dates, so I guess I'd say I have no 'blackout dates' at all.

"its"
"preverbial"
"recieved"?

Not to bash, but this is probably a thread where it would make sense to proofread your post first. Then again, writing/spelling ability is probably less important than being organized and on time.

I said I could write, I never once professed I could spell Rest assured that I will go over the SOTS before I post it if Sleeeve does find a spot for me. No worries on that front.

Any other quips, or are we done now

Do you know how *hard* good limerick's are to write? Seriously, I think I'd rather have a root canal. I can try for funny - or maybe creepy - certainly I'll give it *some* type of adjective (but I promise not boring!) So long as I don't have to write it in sanskrit or come up with the answer to the clues, I should be fine

~ihavturtlduvluv

(oh god, I just realized, at this point the build up for my SOTS might be so high I'll be doomed to failure. How lame would that be? My SOTS could end up being filled with sawdust and glue and ya'll will be so disheartened you'll start watching My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance instead of Survivor. Egads, what ever would I do?)

When limerick writers convene,
Their reason for making the scene,
Is to make all the jokes,
Meant for church going folks,
Into verses perverse and obscene.

Welcome turtlduvluv!

Listen to Krautboy honey (and me of course!)

Spelling is NOT a pre-requisite for doing a SOTS. Combining all the threads into a "One Stop Shop" is what's important. Being funny is also not important. Some SOTS are straight forward links to threads, others are witty...we've got it all.

Also sleeeve likes to give everyone a chance to do the SOTS. It's a good place for new people and "de-lurked" people to stretch their posting wings. Your enthusiasm is great, I too hope that sleeeve can find you a spot.

Hey, hey, sorry for dumping on you. I was just a little amused by the wild spelling. Also, you'll notice that I haven't raised my hand to do a SOTS, so you're way ahead of me on that count.

Here's my official apology limerick:

Awe, thank's BbB. Apology accepted (though truly you didn't need to, I wasn't upset at all). Honestly, my spelling has always been atrocious, it will always be atrocious, and there isn't really much I can do about it. Oh well, at least you can understand me, even if you can't read what I say heh.

I don't have the guts to do it myself...

Well, the humorous advice given to someone last time was: Copy all of Krautboy's logic into a single post, slap on the SOTS logo, and -- voila -- your SOTS is complete!

So I'd say you've done quite a few of them, albeit unintentionally...

ETA: Evidently it was TeamJoisey who came up with this formula...sorry I didn't credit him.

Why thank you Krautboy, how kind of you to welcome me (we all know how hit or miss the welcomes can be on these spoiler boards). Like I said I've been coming here for forever and I feel like I know most of you (even though you don't have a clue who I am heh).

As for your guts, it surely doesn't take guts to do a SOTS - or if it does, maybe I shouldn't have volunteered LOL. Seriously though, I'm guessing you could do a great SOTS.

Cheery-ho!

It's beak can hold more than its belly-can

And it makes me wonder how the hell 'e can.

Duv... There are guidelines, of course, but rythym, rhyme, punctuation and spelling don't really matter, as long as the meaning is clear. I was just funnin' wit ya about the poetry.

Here are a few tips though:

1. Sound intelligent.

2. Beware the spinning clown if you violate rule No .1.

3. Enjoy yourself, even if you draw out the clown.

A suggestion (which you have probably already considered):

Some of your volunteers are also writing summaries, myself included. I'd suggest you try not to schedule folks for a SOTS following the week they are summarizing.
Or perhaps you should chose folks who didn't make the summary list. I'm willing to pass on a SOTS if someone else wants the spot. The more folks we get involved, the better this place gets.

"SOTS Assignments - Writers Please Reply"
Posted by sleeeve on 01-29-04 at 04:28 AM
Okay... finally the list is here. Writers - please respond ASAP to either accept your episode assignment or to decline. Unlike previous seasons, you are accepting an air date, NOT an episode number. Therefore, you will post your SOTS during the assigned week no matter what episode number airs at that time. There are two exceptions to this. First of all, if a recap episode occurs, EVERYONE WILL BE BUMPED BACK ONE WEEK. Secondly, as is tradition, one of the blue people will be assigned the finale episode. Therefore, since we do not know the exact number of episodes, IF THE FINALE IS NOT EPISODE SIXTEEN, the last writers will NOT write a SOTS for this season... sorry

Unfortunately (or fortunately, in my opinion), we have more volunteers that needed. I have compiled an alternate list based on the people who indicated that they would rather be an alternate or would defer to the larger list. The alternate list is based on the order that you signed up. volsfan and GuessItRains were the last two to volunteer, so they have been assigned episodes 14 and 15 which may or may not air (sorry!) Thanks to ICB for his help in sorting through all of the posts off topic posts in this thread and e-mailing me the list of people that actually expressed interest in doing a SOTS.

Here's the list, and the list of alternates (in case any of you cannot complete the episode that airs during the week assigned to you).

As always, please reply to this post to accept your assignment. If you do not reply, your episode will likely be reassigned to one of the alternates. Thanks!!

No, not correct. I am furiously working on a SOTS for this week. I'm not sure when it'll be done, but sometime later this evening.

Thanks, ihavturtlduvluv for compiling this week's SOTS!

I had to make a judgement call earlier this week in order to make sure that ihavturtlduvluv had time to compile this week's SOTS, and since it was (and maybe still is!!!) ambiguous about whether or not this week will have a bootee, I decided that there WOULD be a SOTS this week, and asked ihavturtlduvluv to take care of it. Therefore, the original schedule stays IN TACT... there are no changes. Thanks!!

PS: I have deleted KObrien_fan's post, just to make sure that no one gets that schedule confused with the correct one

Is Pepe around to do this weeks SOTS, or do we need a sub here?

"RE: SOTS For this week"

>Is Pepe around to do this weeks SOTS, or do we
>need a sub here?

Yes, Pepe has apparently once again failed to deliver on what he signed up to do, but maybe it's our fault for giving him another opportunity after he had already repeatedly demonstrated his inability to follow through on his commitments. See the summary for The Bachelor 3 Ep. 4 ... which doesn't exist, My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance Ep. 5 ... which doesn't exist, and Survivor Pearl Islands Ep. 2 ... which at least does exist, although it wasn't posted until after Ep. 3 aired. Not to mention his track record of ignoring the majority of my repeated e-mails and PM's inquiring as to his status on these projects.

If anyone wants to step up and offer to do an emergency SOTS, the community, the mods, and I would be very grateful. As for Pepe, please don't bother to both waste my time and deny opportunities to others by volunteering for any additional writing assignments. I understand things come up and that this is a volunteer system, but there's little excuse for failing to deliver multiple times and not giving the simple courtesy of a response to repeated status inquiries. At this point I can only assume it's become some type of game with you... reliability to an important factor in these assignments, and fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me, but three strikes and you're out (or something like that.)

Thanks,
SB

There's a le pew!

I don't think I'm up for a SOTS; I think they're much more difficult (at least HTML-wise) than a simple summary. But I could try.

Ra, even a decent attempt at a SOTS will give us something ... which is more than we have now. We'd appreciate it if you (or you and Sunny_Bunny) would give it a shot.

Did anything ever come of this? I'm an inveterate night owl and have the day off tomorrow so I could knock this out in a couple of hours if someone can give me a go ahead. Just offering

Hi tick -- as far as I know (I'm trying to check with AK now, but it would be unlike either one of them not to post something), Ra hasn't confirmed working on this, so if you're willing, it's all yours.

Thanks for the offer (and please reply confirming whether you're opting to take on the challenge)

Thanks,
SB

We typically assign the SOTS episodes before the season starts, and as you can see from post #67 in this thread, we had more than enough volunteers. Check back next fall about a month before the premeire of Survivor 9 for your chance to volunteer for the next season.
