At some point, each of these rockers was in the bottom 2 during the voting.

Magni
Toby
Lukas

Magni. He is going to sing Fire.

My opinion: I think he sounds and looks pretty good. The guitar suits him.

I agree with you. Magni sounded great.

Toby who is singing "White Wedding" by Billy Idol.

My opinion:
He sounded good so far but I think Billy Idol does it better.

That reasoning from Gilby has got to be one of the lamest of the season. They knocked him once for NOT playing the guiter on a song, and now when he does he seems part of the band?! C'mon guys....

Seriously! "You look like you're a part of the band. You're going home."
WTF?! Just say you don't want him in your band, dude. That reasoning was just absurd.

Am I going crazy or was "Headspin" just in a commercial for Survivor? How odd.

Another observation: No one has called the band SuperNova yet this episode. It's funny to watch them try to work around it. Heh.

I wonder if they have to give up rights to their original song that they performed on the show?

"RE: 9/13 Rockstar SuperNova Finale Discussion Thread. "
Posted by cycles2k on 09-13-06 at 09:49 PM
Good question. I'm guessing that they have to share the song with the band which means the band could be choosing the song as much as the singer. Pretty Vegas did a lot for INXS.

I totally missed "Headspin" on Survivor promo because I was so intent on listening to Probst talk about the social experiment that strips away civilization (except the cameras, the free food, the rewards, the videos from home, the cars, the access to excellent emergency medical services and the product placements).

I think the whole Lukas playing headspin during the Survivor commericial was an error. Once I saw that I knew Lukas had won. CBS blew it!

Yeah, what lamo at CBS threw that Survivor commercial in? Totally blew the ending for me! What were they thinking???? That was a major screw up.

There were plenty of other songs she sang this season that would have been a better choice. This was one of her worst from the season, IMO. I don't know why she chose it.

Toby.

... exactly one second after DW said that she liked Toby the most. DW subsequently shared her opinion of the band that now has no name.

Toby's goodbye speech was classy and mature. Good on ya Toby.

Final 2 are Lukas and Dilana. Gee nobody saw that coming.

I still can't believe Toby beat Magni and Ryan.

But I wanted him to win because I didn't want any of the other final 6 in SuperWhatever.

I told my husband the first night that Dilana and Lukas were final 2, he thought I was nuts, nowhe keeps saying, " I told you so"

Ha!

Yep, I remember thinking after the first performances that a Lucus/Dilana final two would not be suprising.

I must be losing my touch. First Heather on Hell's Kitchen, now this. What happened to my kiss o' death status. The people I think should win are not supposed to last.

If they are smart, they'll pick Dilana.

She's be at, or near, the top all season, and probably at the top last night. She has a great voice, adds a female to the band, etc, etc.

Lukas, although loved, is also polarizing. You either love him or hate him. You either love his style and voice, or hate it. I think he's been a favorite of SN, but i suspect they're starting to doubt that.

On the first part of the journey
I was looking at all the life
There were drums and tunes and rock and things
There were piercings and tats and rings
The first thing I met was Tommy with a buzz
And the sky with no clouds
The House Band was hot and the stage was dry
But the air was full of sound

Ive been on a Tour Bus with a Band with no Name
It felt good to be out of the rain
On the Tour Bus you can remember your name
cause there aint no one for to give you no pain

I'm confused about something, however. Gilby said that they had to go with the voters and the person who got the most votes was Lukas. If that's the case, all four finalists were in the bottom 3 at some point. The only way for someone not to ever be in the bottom would be to have the most votes start to FINISH. Did Gilby just make something up (yet again) as the reason for sending someone home?

In the early 5 minute voting, Lukas was 3rd and was in the bottom 2. So he was in the bottom 2 "at some point" throughout the night. His fans probably saw that and voted like crazy to the point that he was the top vote getter overall. (Glowie, how's the finger?)

In closing, with as much Lukas-bashing as I've done...

He sounded the best he's sounded all season on those two Supernova(or whatever) tracks. I was pleasantly surprised.

Best of luck to Lukas and Dilana. I will buy Dilana's CD the day it is released. Not sure yet on the SN CD.

Its been fun. See you guys on the Survivor boards.

I agree about him sounding the best yet. I didn't cringe once!

But I will not be picking up a Dilana cd, or a SN cd. I have no desire to hear either.

I still enjoyed the show though. I'm not disappointed in the outcome. I never cared enough to let it upset me. I watch reality tv purely for entertainment. I usually couldn't care less what happens to the contestants after the show is done. Heh.

I know that bothers a lot of people. Me? notsomuch. There are plenty of songs out there that I don't understand the words to until I read the lyrics somewhere. And when performing live as opposed to a studio, it is always a little more garbled and hard to understand.

I thought it was completely obvious from day ONE that Lukas was "their boy". It seemed like they couldn't say enough about him. they never critisized, even when he had a pisspoor performance. OY..i'm NOT shocked. But i'm also glad that my boys Magni and Toby are free to go and have some kick ##### careers on their own, WIHTOUT SuperNova. I don't see them lasting that long anyway. But whatever, congrats to Lukas!!

As a Canadian, I have to be pleased that a Canadian has won yet again. He was not the best vocalist but I find that Lukas brings an emotional honesty to his performances that I enjoy.

I too thought the two SN(?) songs were very good.

The one hour episode suggests that the show did not draw a sufficiently large audience to warrant a longer finale. Does anybody know if this show was a success?

The gymnastics they performed to avoid mentionning the name of the band was almost as entertaining as the performances. If MB doesn't have lawyers who are good enough to prevent injunctions on his finale show perhaps he should think about using Google next time he wants to form a band.

Although in the 18-49 age slot it did better than Big Brother did for the finale the hour before, so as part of the line up for the evening it didn't do that bad.

As much as I enjoy Lukas ( incredible talent) I think Dilana was a better fit. Too bad the boys didn't have the balls to put a woman in front of them.

I wasn't thrilled with any of the songs they did to close the show.

I predict one album, and then Lukas goes solo.

I personally think the whole band sucks. I liked the show just because it is so entertaining but the only real talent up there is the house band and Dilana.

They have no distinct sound to them. All of the originals we've heard so far blow! The whole thing was an overall dissapointment. And as far as Lukas winning what a joke! The guy can't sing, he screams every song in that whiny voice and every song he sings sounds the same.

Dilana would have been the only great choice and they totally blew it!!

What a major dissapointment.

I don't see them being around for very long or selling out many shows!

OK. I don't know WTF happened up in Canada but we saw a truncated version of what you guys saw. The first half hour was recrap of the mansion, of earlier performances, of the band dissing some rawkers. The Brooke said, "when we come back, we'll see some friction over song choices". This took us to the first 1/2 hour leading us to believe that it might be a two hour finale. Upon return from commercial - Lukas was already into his song, Magni had vanished without comment, and Dilana was next up. No "Fire", No "White Wedding", nothing.

One word to Global TV: Brutal.

I'll come back later to comment on what we did see.

That is Brutal bullzeye. I watch from Alberta so it is possible to avoid the cable company's "Canadian replacement" network by watching the East Coast CBS feed or the West Coast high definition CBS feed. As long as I stay away from our basic (non digital) cable channels I seem to be OK.

I avoid watching the Canadian networks when it is US content because sometimes they run the commericals into the show. I have never seen a screwup as bad as what you describe and I would be equally as upset had I missed two performances. We did have to sit through the recrap, then Brooke did a brief faux drama about the bottom 2 and each sang a single truncated song. It moved so quickly that it felt like Rawkers were dropping like flies.

Global Québec also joined the finale only during Lukas' "Bittersweet Symphony". I had to follow the East Coast thread even if I am in the eastern time zone! Thanks Cycles! Believe it or not Global screwed up worse during "Treasure Hunters". Episode #4 was presented the week of episode #3.

Lukas can create the buzz the band will need. His style is unique and will add something new for these rockers.

Ontario viewer here. I taped the show from 8 to 9, and watched starting at 9. 1/2 recrap, and then they broke into the finals show 1/2 way, after Magni was gone. GRRRR

Then I was flicking channels at around 10:20, and "surprise!" Global was showing the finale again. Of course, since it wasn't in the guide, I missed it again.

It certainly reminded me of that Treasure Hunter debacle.

It is amazing that Global, based in Toronto, can screw that up so badly, when Toronto natives have won both seasons of RockStar.

Apparently they started out showing the "international" version of the show, which included more preamble, recaps etc and was designed to be a longer show. Then once they realized the screwup they switched to the "domestic" (intended for USA/Canada I guess?) feed, where we all started watching. They decided to replay the episode at 10:00, but didn't bother to let us know (a scrolling message on screen would have been nice) so I turned off the TV when the show ended. Frustrating!

Jerks! Were the promises for the cameras only or were the guys so wrapped up in the emotion of the moment that they made one of those offers that people make at funerals which are never really meant to be kept? I wonder if Dilana received anything more than an empty promise from Gilby last night.

At least Dave turned out to be a man of his word. It makes me want to retract everthing bad I said about him this season.

I think SuperNova shunned Dilana because of her attitude. I believe this was the deciding factor for them. I really don't think they wanted to work with her, even if she is extremely talented. If she would have kept her mouth shut throughout the season, not back-stabbed the other contestants and shown such a horrible, uppity attitude, she probable would have won. I think she F***ked herself.

I disagree. Dilana's 'attitude' had nothing to do with it. So many rock and rollers have that type of attitude. The guys in SuperNova are known for their bad boy images. The reason Dilana did not get picked and the reason the 'attitude' was so overly beat down our throats is because SuperNova did not want a female singer. By painting her as 'crazy' the public loses a bit of sympathy for her not winning.

"RE: 9/13 Rockstar SuperNova Finale Discussion Thread. "
Posted by Tinamd on 09-14-06 at 01:17 PM
I totally agree. They had no intention of having a female singer and they knew it from the beginning. They completely sabotaged her with that whole press thing, playing it over and over again for 3-4 weeks to make people lose respect for her. So she screwed up, big deal rock n rollers do it all the time. ##### Motley Crew was a bunch of drunken drug doing scums back in the 80's- doing things much worse than her shooting her mouth off. None of that killed their popularity. And what about Axel Rose not exactly an upstanding citizen either. HELLO its called ROCK N ROLL people! I thought it was bullshit. If they had any intention of considering a girl they wouldn't have kicked off Storm when they did. She had way more talent than anyone of the guys left up there.

If any of you watched the clips online of everything that went on at the house when it wasn't on network tv all you would have seen was Lukas acting like a drunken idiot and pissing everyone off every damn week. Why didn't they play any of that on tv each week. Simple answer is they didn't do it cause they wanted him to win for some ungodly reason (cause he really cant sing) and they wanted to Sabatage Dilana who was the most popular.

I'm sorry but Lukas sounds like he is gargling and screaming not singing.

This band isn't gonna make it anywhere- they suck already. What a joke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree that I think they never wanted a female singer, much like INXS last year.

Though Dilana was always my fav, Lukas grew on me after a bit and I could see what Glow fell for. That doesn't me I would want to listen to a whole cd, I just enjoyed watching him.

I'm glad Dilana lost though, I think she'll (along with Toby, Magni, Ryan and as boner would say sweet, hot, sexy Storm) do much better on her own. PS. good for Dave for honoring his word and playing on Storm's cd.

See you all on the Survivor boards.

Did anyone else notice that when SN got up to play their own new songs that there was a guitar track playing and that Gilby wasn't actually playing the main guitar licks, nor was he playing anything all that impressive when he WAS playing?? I noticed it and pointed it out to my husband who then agreed with me. Seems Gilby isn't quite the great guitarist he's being played up to be.

I honestly don't see this band going very far. As others have said, one cd and gone....I totally agree with that.

I think "the band" got more out of the deal than the winner of "Rockstar whatever".......

Sounds like Dilana was the real winner. The perks without the long term committment. Pleased with the finale.

IF they follow through with their offer. Only Dave is following through with the same offer they made to Storm.

good lord, the Oompa Loompa won.

I almost fell over when Lukas was picked over Dilanna. In every way it was so obvious she was the best fit for the band, both in looks and singing ability, that it comes down to pure machismo, not wanting a woman frontperson. Sorry to the Lukas lovers, but I think he really sucks and I have thought so since day one. I hate that constricted way of singing he has.

I am sick of these RockStar shows putting women on when they have absolutely NO intention of picking them as true contenders. Just have all guys on the show and stop the charade. I really thought Dilanna would be the one to break the mold, because she wasn't a girly-girl, had pipes as good as any rawker guy, and was cute enough to appeal to guys but cool enough to appeal to gals too. And her "attitude" had nothing to do with it -- these three SN guys are all bad boys and have or had horrible reputations each.

What a total disappointment.

The only good news is, that SuperNova sucks too -- every song they played this season was totally horrible and I doubt this band will be together longer than this current album and tour.

I myself am mixed about should a SuperNova pick a women or not. I do think that having women on the show competing for a slot in a band that they have no chance to win is wrong. And I am not sure that they had no chance....but that chance was very small. If you think about what percent of vocalists in successful HARD rock bands are female.....that is small....very small. Also, you have the dynamic of three guys writing songs that are from a guys point of view. If a women sings them it adds a different element....not only to the songs but the image of the band.

I do think that it was wrong to edit Dilana like she was some crazy women was totally wrong. I have seen many people here say Dilana lost because of the things she did with the media people and her reaction afterwards. At the same time, I see video footage of two members from Poison get in a fist fight with each other in the middle of the concert in front of 15,000. Motley Crue, GNR, and Metallica are no different....and neither are these guys. Each of those bands have written tell all books about their careers and Dilana is an angel compared to them. What she said in that interview is kindergarden compared to stupid stuff the other guys have done. It was all done to manipulate the people into either not voting for her or into being ok with her not being chosen.

But with all that said......SuperNova had the right to pick whoever they want for their band. If they feel a male (Lukas) is the best fit all power to them. I just feel some of what went on here is very wrong. Lukas bashed the others also....especially in the beginning or should I say.....especially when they saw fit to show it. In a lot of ways I think the biggest difference between Dilana and Lukas is that she is female.

Actually I think the reason they have the females on in the first place is to appeal to more television viewers....no females probably means less female viewers.

I beg to differ somewhat... with the number of guys I've seen here talking about how sexy Storm, Dilana, and some of the others are, I think no female singers means no hot chicks in skimpy outfits, and fewer young male viewers. (Same goes for the women discussing how hot Ryan, Toby etc. are). I guess it depends whether you're watching for the music or the eye candy.

I can't feel too sorry for any of the folks that make it to the final 5 or six, male or female. Do you think Dilana or Storm would otherwise got 8 weeks of publicity like this otherwise? Methinks not.

Nope, I agree with you. And the same holds for SuperNova. You think SuperNova will sell out concert halls without this show? This show is one big marketing ploy....but I like it.

Honestly, some of you will go see them in concert and some of you will buy the cds. Would you consider either if this show had not been on the air? I wouldn't. I don't know if I will buy the cd or go to the show. I did buy the INXS cd and concert tickets. I think I will probably be more likely to buy the cd than go to the show. The biggest problem here is the concert is like a half a year after the show is done. In February will I care about SuperNova like I do now? I doubt it.
