CBS Gives Brother Another TryMaybe the third time will be the charm for Big Brother. CBS announced Tuesday that it's bringing the tepidly rated reality series back for a third go-round this summer with "new innovations," Reuters reports. CBS did not say what those innovations would be.
The first installment of Big Brother, which premiered in July 2000 on the heels of the Survivor-sparked reality craze, was hammered by critics and met with so-so ratings. Still, CBS brought a slightly retooled version back for a second attempt last year.
The show features a group of 10 strangers who are placed in a house where they're totally isolated from the outside world, and their (almost) every move is captured on camera. Each week one person is voted out; at the end, the remaining resident wins a cash prize. Applications for Big Brother 3 are currently being accepted.
This is one of the greatest shows on TV. I am really excited.
