Simon wasn't far off the mark when he calls Carrie's performances "robotic". Each week, I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with Carrie, and it hit me:Dead eyes. It's like the show sucked the soul right out of her.
Creepy to the extreme.
It's a shame, because she can sing...without feeling the song.
That's what it seems like to me. No star quality, no "Hey, look at ME!!" which you can see in abundance in, for example, Vonzell.
Amen!!
It's the stepford soriety same thing. At least it was with the ones I was friends with... I said NO!
I sooooo agree about the eyes. My SO was just saying the exact same thing. She just sings the song, she doesn't invest any emotion into it. She has a beautiful voice and I feel that maybe as she matures and has more training she will evolve into a wonderful performer.
Exactly what I was trying to say.. thanks for putting the right words to my thoughts!![]()
I agree that Carrie can really sing, but she rarely exhibits any stage presence or performance capabilities. That being said, those kind of things CAN be taught and she actually did a great job connecting with the Elvis song this week. For me, she still has a small edge on the other competitors but Vonzelle seems to be getting better and better every week and has a GREAT personality - warm, happy and humble...pretty much the anti-'Tasia.
Did Fantasia ever even get her recording contract. She has totally disappeared!
I haven't voted for Carrie since oh...the semifinals. I gave
Carrie up and stuck with Bo and Vonzell. If Carrie retrieves her soul, maybe she'll give them a run for the money.
And didn't Fantasia recently release her CD? I know she was on Leno a month or so ago.
I think I'm going to vote for Bo exclusively from now onward.
>>Dead eyes<<YES YES YES YES!!!!
And it was SOOO noticable this week on some of her close ups - you'd see the top half of her face over the mic & there was NOTHING happening in her eyes.
My teacher used to call this "Voiceland."
As in "Don't go into Voiceland, now." When you're only worried about the sounds you're making, not the words you're singing.
(I think singers like Mariah, Celine & Whitney LIVE in Voiceland, they've just memorized a few facial expressions to fool people.)
(please don't hate me)
Killer voice, no umph!
I haven't once said "Holy Sh!T" when she has sung, simply because she doesn't seem to back up the sick voice with any soul.
I'm voting for Bo all the way.
