"can't go home yet"

On Survivor, I hate it when people say “ is going home tonight”, when they mean that person will be out of the game. I hear it again and again. After they start forming the jury, nobody goes home until after the jury vote. People get eliminated from the game but they can’t go home yet because they have to serve in the jury. Home is too far away from where they are.

Welcome aboard. Yeah, that does seem like silly shorthand, but it is language of the game. A certain amount of the language of Survivor was established way back in season 1, and in that season the pre-jury boots actually could go home after they were booted. One of them, BB, did just that, booked a flight and left for home. And Jenna M. was allowed to return home after she quit in All-Stars season 8.

Welcome! I've often thought the same thing. But you can't go home yet because this post is still going strong!
