"Married By America"

I'm surprised nobody started a thread yet about this show!
I already have my favorites out of the six finalists for the first three brides/grooms.

Here are my random thoughts:

I think it's now a prerequisite to have a three-person panel of judges on every show.

What were the odds that Steven would *have* to marry a woman named Denise? Odd how that happened.

The ones I found to be the "losers" of each group of five were weeded out before the final three. I'm glad none of them made it past that stage.

Jill's choice:
Markus Eh, he's ok, but I like...
Kevin What a hunk! He was my choice for Jill.

Steven's choice:
Denise D. Brunette; I liked her better than...
Denise L. Blonde who posed for Playboy. I hope America doesn't vote for her due to that "exposure".

Billie Jeanne's choice:
Tony Used car salesman...is he really a porn star like S5's Brian? LOL! I thought he was witty, but I also thought he was oozing the schmoozing a bit too much.
Michael Ok, he was funny, and not conventionally handsome. He is cute and grew on me. I think this is the guy America should choose.

Jack: I have to mention him because I thought he was adorable and probably should have been Billie Jeanne's choice. I'd snap him up.

I can't wait to see how the other two people's choices turn out on Thursday.

When they brought out the part about a dirty little secret about one of them I thought I was watching "Meet My Folks".

They certainly don't give America more than a brief glimpse of these people they are suppose to be voting on. I don't even remember the names. Oh yes, the woman was Denise. But which one? LOL!

I thought it had a little bit of "Meet My Folks" with all the questions and answers, as well as what you brought up.

I love how all these shows bastardize themselves with bits and pieces of other shows thrown into the mix.

How many of them will stay married? Let's ask Survivor 6 Rob's Magic 8 Ball. "No."

So they really only have to agree to become engaged to the person. Not marry anyone. Is that right?

And what is this about a half million dollar nest egg? Do they win money if they get married? I wasn't paying alot of attention at the beginning when they were talking about the rules or whatever you call the basis of this show.

All I can say is....how horrible was this show? I could hardly stand to watch.....I don't recall any names or anything.....I might just tune in for the final show, where they actually have to propose, to see some of the reactions....but I think the show is rather tasteless and probably will last as long as "Who Wants To Marry A Multi-Millionaire?".

Why is this show Married by America if we're only choosing between two people? That's so lame. The fun aspect of this show would be to match irritating people like Billie Jean with someone that was totally wrong for her, thus insuring she'd have a miserable time. The cast sucks, the concept sucks, the show sucks. Won't be watching anymore.

So tonight they must match up the last 2 pathetic fools with their supposed perfect mates. Or at least 2 of them to choose from. I wonder if we get to see who was picked for the 3 from Monday?

You got it. We get to see who gets to be the (un)lucky finalists for the remaining two people....but we won't see the proposals for the first three contestants yet. That'll happen next week.

Well I hope the people we meet tonight seem a little more interesting.

So, after the couples get "engaged" on Monday, they are forced to all go and cohabitate in a mansion where they will eat together, sleep together, etc. With so many marriage-minded singles involved, I wonder if any will switch partners! I think Stephen and Jennifer would make a good couple!

Also, I wonder what is going to happen when Denise-with-the-big-chest is unmasked as being married? Will the third-place girl, Darrien, be brought back (I liked her!). You'd think FOX would have done better background checks. Kind of makes you wonder what else they missed!

I guess when they were digging for their secret on Denise they didn't dig far enough.

I thought about them switching partners too. In fact I wondered why they didn't just pair up the people that wanted mates instead of bringing on the others. But then there would be no show. But it will be interesting to see if some of them don't find the others more attractive than the one picked for them.

Since it's one of the only things I actually can watch here, I accidentally tuned in this week ^-^;;

Anyhow, it really sucks that the family eliminated Kelly. I think it was a case of mom feeling threatened. I mean, they said they wanted someone tough and then they ended up with the two quite submissive ones. If she's so much like the guy and they'd get along and become great friends then why wouldn't they put her through? Who wants a relationship where you have nothing in common and aren't good friends?

Also, I hope Scott wins....the other guy seems like the type who would flirt with anyone which doesn't make for a healthy situation once they get out of isolation. Although Scott does seem like the type that would get bored easily so maybe neither one is a great option.

Oh well; it's not like anyone on any of these shows ever goes through with the relationship after the cameras stop anyhow.

"Denise L already married!"
Posted by Scarberian on 03-06-03 at 10:04 AM
I found this on Entertainment Tonight's Website this morning:

ALREADY HITCHED
March 5, 2003 | It seems as though "Married By America" contestant DENISE L., who was chosen as a suitor for STEPHEN, is already married. Her sister-in-law, KAREN, broke the news Tuesday on the Jeff and Jer Showgram radio show on Star 100.7 in San Diego, CA, that not only is Denise still married, but she also allegedly owes her ample bosom to the wizardry of plastic surgery. When contacted, FOX said they were unaware of Denise's marital status until ET brought it to their attention. A network spokesperson said they will deal with the matter on Monday's show.

I was about to ask which Denise was married. But the ample bosom remark made it clear. So does the other woman win by default? Or is that lose by default?

Since this show has people voting live. Do they have to keep these people in seclusion for a week? Otherwise they could watch the show and know who they are going to be mated with.

I was just glad they kept Xavier around. I liked his accent. If I have to watch someone I will watch him. I really don't care if they get married or not. I just want interesting TV.

Xavier just seems like such a sleeze to me for some reason. The other guy is just more realistic and down to earth. But I guess sleeziness makes for better tv ^-^;;

"Episode March 10th"
Posted by Loree on 03-10-03 at 11:09 PM
Now this show is getting fun. It is the living together and watching them that will be interesting.

Some of these couples seemed to have instant chemistry or lust appeal. While others seemed uncomfortable and not too pleased. Matt and Cortez barely touched each other. While some of the couples couldn't keep their hands off each other. And the smiles told alot too.

Next week when they have to go on an 8-hour road trip together with a map should tell alot about the couples and how they travel together and cope.

And now we understand that one couple has to leave the end of each episode. How will they decide which couple is least compatible?

I'm just a little confused by the timing of things--if they already showed highlights from next week, when was Mon. night's show taped? The voting was last Monday, right?

Looks like Xavier and Jennifer are having trouble too from the previews. Now, Billie Jean and Tony, THAT's another thing entirely

"RE: Episode March 10th"
Posted by Loree on 03-11-03 at 09:30 AM
I was wondering about that too. But since the voting was live. I think they probably taped the engagement on Friday or somewhere around there so they could get these people out of town and have some tape ready for the commercials. Once the live voting was done they could tape the reveal anytime.

Jill & Kevin and Billie Jean & Tony seemed the most enthusiastic about each other. They may end up being our final 2. Or they will get bored with each other quickly. I can't help thinking that Billie Jean & Tony are the type that would play it for the win. He is a car salesman. So even if they decide they don't want to be married they may both put on a show to convince the audience they deserve the win.

I think Xavier and Jennifer are both a little too strong willed to make it together. I think they both want to be in charge.

The other 2 couples seemed more shy with each other. So who knows what will develop there.

And according to the married Denise, I guess if you don't have a white picket fence then you were never really married.

Agreed. I thought the interrorgation process was sometimes painful to watch.

True, though I think M&C aren't quite as doomed as some of the others.

>Next week when they have to go on an 8-hour road

It looks like they borrowed those scenes from "The Amazing Race". A good show to borrow from, but they'll screw it up somehow.

>And now we understand that one couple has to leave the
>end of each episode. How will they decide which
>couple is least compatible?

They explained this poorly, but I THINK it's up to us, the audience, to choose. Either the one with the most votes is kicked out, or the one with the LEAST votes is.

"The lucky couples & my opinions"

BILLIE JEANNE & TONY - This is the couple I didn't pick, but I was oh so wrong. Instant chemical attraction here. They'll last as long as the lust lasts. They could win this thing.

CORTEZ & MATT - I'm probably in the minority, but I think this pairing can work out if they're willing to put a little time and effort into it. She's a jewel and he can't be a complete dork, can he?

JILL & KEVIN - Initial impressions are good, but she's a little high maintenance for most mortals. I would guess that this one will fall apart sooner rather than later.

DENISE (D) & STEPHEN - Like her, think he's OK, don't like the two of them together. She'll be willing to try, but this one figures to be more fizzle than sizzle.

JENNIFER & XAVIER - This is NOT going to happen. They figure to be the first ones kicked off the ranch, and the engagement won't last 24 hours past that point.

Hey, I'm new to the board, but for some reason I like this show!
Realitybites had so great observations...and I agree with most of them. Here's what I got:

I think I see two couples that look like they could make it...

1.) Jill and Kevin- Instant attraction. They never stopped talking after they were introduced. If I remember correctly, they hugged a few times, too. I really had a good feeling about them. The choice seems really good...the other suitor (Markus?) was sweet and down to earth...but Jill needed a little more fire in the coupling. Kevin seems to be right, and very sincere.

2.) Billie Jeanne and Tony- Instant lust. After looking like nervous penned-up rabbit that was on the verge of bolting, Tony sure made a QUICK recovery, didn't he? Both were obviously pleased...and later couldn't take their hands off each other. In the previews he even said something like "where's that ass" (in the car)...you could tell this was going to get "hot"...and I mean that to the fullest extent of the word! All I can remember of what they said on the stage was when she asked if he liked beer, he said "yes", and she said "Good because I love it!" Yeah, this is going to be some kind of relationship to watch!!!

I can see breakdowns in the rest of them...

Cortez and Matt- That's a "no-go"...she was obviously disappointed...I saw that right away. I guess it's "cheating" because I watched the previews on a commercial for the next show, and Cortez was sobbing saying she couldn't MAKE herself feel anything she didn't". He was very disgruntled.

Denise D. and Stephen- I thought he'd be alittle more pleased...she was so cute, but just a bit overweight. I don't think he was as overwhelmed. It was embarassing to see them just stand there and barely talk. Oh! And did you see his kiss to her? Can we say "forced"? It looked like just what it was: he was pressured to kiss her and what she got in the way of a kiss is probably as long as their relationship will get. Over fast.

Last, but not least:

Jennifer and Xavier- Phew. This one's going to be a rough one.
It was quite clear in the interviews that Xavier isn't used to sharing the pants in the family. She wouldn't think of wearing anything else. Both are strong-willed. Neither is going to give an inch it looks like. She even got cranky going to the ranch. And isn't it that couple that were arguing about WHO WAS GOING TO SLEEP ON THE COUCH? Also, I think it was Jennifer's family stated that she thinks with her head, and not with her heart. Frenchmen are usally from the old school, I bet he's not a happy camper by now.

I could be totally off base on all of this...but these are the signs I saw. What do you think???
-Brat

Posted by Loree on 03-12-03 at 06:34 PM
I pretty much agree with everything you said Brat. I remember Stephen was the one that was talking on the first show that physical beauty wasn't important to him. He was more interested in the inner self, yada yada yada. So I don't know how he could be so uninterested the minute he saw her. They didn't even talk much to find out what they had in common. And it was his friends that picked her for the final 2. They should know what type of girl he dates. So maybe this will just be a slow starting relationship.
